.3 CURRENT TRANSFORMERS FOR
RELAY PROTECTION
Installing current trans ormers. The cable shielding is led back
through the centre hole and earthed.
A protection relay is installed in each vacuum circuit breaker
module. The cables rom the protection relay to the current
trans ormers are placed in the cable compartment, ready or
connection to the three current trans ormers supplied.
Before installation:
lCheck that the three current trans ormers have been
delivered and that they are all o the same type.
lCheck that the current trans ormers are o the correct type,
with the correctly rated trans ormer ratio, or the
distribution trans ormer’s rated current and or the
adjustment range on the protection relay (see protection
relay manual).
Each current trans ormer must be mounted onto its high voltage
cable be ore the cable termination is itted.
The earth shield on the cable must be led back through the
centre hole in the current trans ormer (see igure on le t) and
earthed on the earthing bar in the cable compartment. A
mounting plate or the current trans ormers is itted in the cable
compartment.
A ter the current trans ormers have been installed in the unit,
the cables rom the protection relay are connected. Consult the
manual supplied with the protection relay or a description o the
connections.
Sa eRing with vacuum circuit breakers are prepared or three
di erent types o protection relays: SACE PR521, SEG WI1-3
and MPRB 99-1.0-GF. All three types are designed so that
there is no need or external auxiliary voltage or correct
unctioning.
Separate manuals have been prepared or each o these
protection relay, with examples o adjustments.
SACE PR 521
This relay o ers advanced protection with acilities or constant-
time, normal inverse, very inverse and extremely inverse
characteristics as well as simple earth ault protection in
accordance with IEC 60255-3.
MPRB 99-1.0-GF and SEG WI1-3
These are simpler type o inverse-time protection relays, with
ixed settings specially developed or distribution
trans ormers. The MPRB 99-1.0-GF also have a earth ault
protection module.
It is essential or correct unctioning that the current trans or-
mers are properly connected and that the protection relay is
properly adjusted.
Sa ePlus can be delivered with advanced protection relays. As
option SPAJ140 can be delivered and also other ABB relays
like REJ and REF54_ can be itted. This will require additional
low voltage compartment.

5.2 OPERATION
All switches can be operated with the included operating
handle.
Internal mechanical interlocking between the switch
disconnector/isolator and the associated earthing switches
prevents incorrect operation.
The isolator in the V-Module can only be opened a ter the
circuit breaker is opened. Then the circuit breaker can be
closed or testing purpose. The operation o the switch
disconnector/circuit breaker and earthing switches can be
urther interlocked by means o a padlock. The earthing
switches are operated by a snap action mechanism, which
ensures ast closing.
The earthing switch is closed by turning the operating handle
clockwise. Turning the operating handle anti-clockwise opens
the switch.
For closing the switch use disconnector / circuit breaker the
spring mechanism must be charged. Turning the operating
handle clockwise does this. Then the green “on” button must be
pressed to close the switch/breaker.
An anti-re lex system, standard on all operating handles,

5. RELEAYS
Sa eRing / Sa ePlus with vacuum circuit breakers are prepared
or three di erent types o protection relays: SACE PR521,
Circutor, MPRB 99-1.0-GF and SEG WI1-3. All three types are
designed so that there is no need or external auxiliary voltage
or correct unctioning.
Separate manuals have been prepared or each o these
protection relay, with examples o adjustments.
MPRB 99-1.0-GF and SEG WI1-3
These are simpler type o inverse-time protection relays, with
ixed settings specially developed or distribution
trans ormers. The MPRB 99-1.0-GF also have an earth ault
protection module.
Sa ePlus can be delivered with advanced protection relays. As
option SPAJ140 can be delivered and also other ABB relays
like REJ and REF can be itted. This will require additional low
voltage compartment.

6.6 CABLE TESTING
Voltage testing and locating cable aults can be per ormed in
two ways:
6.5 MOTOR OPERATION
Cable switches, vacuum circuit-breakers and earthing switches
are operated by mechanisms located behind the ront panel.
The mechanisms or all the switches and breakers are operated
manually with the operating level (standard), or are itted with
motor operation (additional equipment). The earthing switch can
only be operated manually and is itted with mechanisms to
achieve ault making capabilities.
Motor operation can be easily retro itted. 2. Directly at the cable connectors which are designed or
testing the voltage o the cable.
Follow the supplier’s instructions.
2.1. Cable connector connected
2.2. Cable connector dismounted
1. Directly at the testing points (A) i they are itted on the
unit. Proceed as ollows: engage the earthing switch.
