The Adobelite Gas Log system requires 1/2” gas supply line capable of supplying an input BTU of 48,000 for
NaturalGas,and39,700forLiquidPropane.

Before the Adobelite firebox is installed, gas lines should be run into the area where the fireplace will be in‐
stalled.AKeyedGasShutoffValveisrequiredinanaccessiblelocationwithin3’ofthefireplace.UsefigureA,in
thechartsbelowtolocatetheminimumdistancefromthecornerwheretheKeyedGasShutoffValve canbe
placedtoinsureitwillnotbebehindtheAdobeliteFramewheninstalled.Itshouldalsobeataminimumheight
of1’8”.

Install an Electrical Box and Wall Switch (or remote control receiver) for fireplace control in the wall at the
desiredlocation.RefertoFIG.1onpage9tolocatetheminimum distance from the corner that the Switch
should be located. DO NOT CONNECT 110V AC to the wall switch. This wall switch will connect to the low‐
voltage20AWGofthegassystem.8Feetof20AWGMilli‐voltwireisincludedprewiredtothegassystemcon‐
trols,whichistobeconnectedtotheswitchterminals.

Thisfireplacecomesequippedwitha3voltelectronicignition gascontrolsystem.This systemincludesatwo
D‐cellbatterypackprewiredtothegassystemcontrols,whichwillprovidereliableoperationofthesystemeven
intheeventofapoweroutage.Batterypolaritymustbecorrectormoduledamagewilloccur.Anoptional3volt
ACtransformerisavailablefromAdobeliteoryourdealerforoperationusing110VAC.Theoptionaltransformer
andtheincludedbatterypackCANNOTbothbehookeduptothecontrolmoduleatthesametimeordamage
willoccur.Removebatteriesfromthebatterypackbeforeconnectingtheoptionaltransformer,andunplugthe
transformerbeforeinstallingthebatteries.

When working on a concrete

rectlyonthefloorifdesired,fora
5”hearthheight.
WoodFloor
Thehearthheightcanalsobeloweredto11”for
a wood floor. If you plan to lower the firebox
pedestallowerthan8”,youmustuseaheatbar‐
rierconsistingof:1)alayerof1¼”thicksplit
firebrick, 2) a 16 gauge steel barrier (the same
sizeasthebase,and3)anotherlayerof1¼”
firebrick.Thesteelbarriershouldbesandwiched
in‐between the firebrick. Only adjust the base
pedestal height if: 1) you ordered a custom
frameatthatheight,or2)youfeelcomfortable
performing the necessary modifications to the
frame.

1)BASE–Spreadathinlayerofconcretemortarorconstructionadhesive
onthetopofthefireboxpedestal.Placethefireboxbaseonthepedes‐
tal.Usingthelayoutsketch,alignthefrontofthebasewiththefirebox
base line and center the firebox along the center line. Make sure the
Baseislevel.

2) LOWER BACK –Apply a 5” wide thin layer of the included refractory
mortartotheoutsidetopedgeofthebasewheretheLowerBackwill
rest. Place the Lower Back in place and rotate the piece slightly back
andforth tosquishthe mortarinto place.Align theback andsides of
theLowerBackandBase.
3) UPPER BACK (MODELS KIVA24 AND KIVA30 ONLY) – Following the
aboveprocedure,spreadalayerofrefractorymortarandplacetheUp‐
per Back section on top of the Lower Back. Again, align the backand
sidesofthepieces.
6) TOP –Nowinstallthetopsectionof
the fireplace. Again, spread a thin
layer of refractory mortar where
the pieces will meet, andalign the
backandsidesofthepieces.
5) FRONT ARCH –Apply refractory
mortar to the front edges of the
Lower and Upper Back pieces and
tothetopoftheFrontArchsec‐
tion.PlacetheFrontArchintoplace
and attach using four 1/4” x 6” Lag
Bolts. Avoid placing any weight
ontotheManifoldbeforethebolts
areattached.

tar to the upper face of the fireplace base. Position the Manifold so
thatthefaceoftheManifoldisagainstthefaceofthebase,andtheL‐
Bracket(thatsuppliescombustionair)isrestingonthefirebricksurface
oftheBase.TheBurnPanandKivaGratewillrestontheBasetowards
theback.Usingthesupplied¼”x3”lagbolts,boltthemanifoldtothe
Base.Theheadsoftheboltswillpassthroughthefaceofthemanifold
andtightenagainstthebackofthemanifold.DoNotOver‐tightenthe
Bolts!Usingyourfinger,applyrefractorymortartoalltheseamswhere
themanifoldtouchestheBase.

Eachdoublewallchimneysectionconsistsofaninnerandouterflue
pipe. The two sections of chimney pipe are not attached to each
other, and therefore must be installed individually. As the flue sec‐
tions are assembled, the inner flue section will slip to the inside of
the section below. The outer section of pipe will slide over the
hemmededgeofthesectionbelow.
Wheninstalledproperly,thechimneysectionswill“snap”intoplace,
securelylockingthetwopiecestogether.Ifthechimneyispulledup‐
warditwillnotseparatefromthepipebelowifitisproperlylocked.
Checkboththeinnerandoutersectionsofchimneywhenassem‐
blingtheflue.Screwsarenotnecessarytokeepthechimneysections
together.
10)STARTERELBOW(INNER)– Begin the chimney installation by
insertingthehemmededgeoftheinnerstarterelbowinsidethe
collar of the Anchor Plate. The inner chimney pipe slips into the
insideoftheAnchorPlatecollarsothatanysootbuildupwillfall
intothefirebox.
AligntheinnerStarterElbowso thatitpointsdirectlybackaway
fromtheFireboxface.SecuretheinnerStarterElbowtotheAn‐
chorPlatecollarbyusingfour#12x3/4” self drilling hex head
screws.
11)STARTERCOLLAR– The Starter Collar is used to support the
outerchimneysection,whiletheAnchorPlatecollarsupportsthe
innerchimney.AttachthelegsoftheStarterCollartotheAnchor
Platewiththesupplied#12x3/4”selfdrillinghexheadscrews.

PlacethelathstripsagainsttheinsideFrontArchevenwith
theDoorFrame(FIG.24).Using15/8”washerheadscrews,
attachthelathtotheFrontArchevery4”.Cutstripsinthe
openinglathfromtheoutsideedgeuptotheopeningbar.
Foldthestripsbackontotheframe.Attachthelathstripsto
the frame using #6 x 1/2” self drilling hex head screws, or
withbailingwire.

SEALINGTHEPLASTER
Theplastercanbesealedwhichwillhelpkeeptheplasterfromdiscoloring,andalsomakethefireplaceeasierto
clean.Manytypesofsealersareavailable,suchas:waxsealers,whichwillgivetheplasterashiny(almostwet
look),andmasonryandgroutsealers, which areavailableinmatteandglossfinishes.Checkwithyourplaster
supplierforoptions.
TheAdobelitefireplacecanbefinishedwithanyindoorplastersystem.Typicallya3‐coatgypsumplastersystem
isused.Thefirstcoat(basecoat)shouldcontainfiberglassandsand.Thiswillprovideasolidbasefortheother
coats.ThefirstcoatcanbemixedslightlyonthedrysidetohelpitbondtotheKivaFramewiremesh.Allowthe
firstcoattodrycompletelybeforeapplyingthe2ndcoat.
The2ndcoatshouldcontainfiberglass,andmayormaynotcontainsandandcement.Manyindoorplastersare
gypsumbased.Applythe2ndcoatusingatrowel,andthensmoothouttheplasterusingwaterandafloat(or
sponge).Whencompletethe2ndcoatwillbefairlysmoothbutwillhavea“grainy”ofstuccofinish.
Allowonefullweekormoreforthefirsttwocoatstocompletelydrybeforeapplyingthefinalcoatofplaster.
Thefinalcoatdoesnotgenerallycontainfiberglassandisappliedwithahardtroweltogiveasmoothappear‐
ance,butcanbealsobefinishedanywaydesired.
