above.Itisyourobligationasthecustomertoensurethatthemachineisinstalledsafelyandproperly,and
whencompleted,themachineisleftinproperandsafeworkingorder.Electrical,Plumbing,andChemical
hookupshouldbeperformedbyaqualifiedprofessionalwhowillensurethattheequipmentisinstalledin
accordancewithallapplicableCodes,Ordinances,andSafetyrequirements.Failuretofollowthe
installationinstructionscouldvoidthewarranty.ADSassumesnoliabilityorcontrolovertheinstallationof
theequipment.ProductfailureduetoimproperinstallationisnotcoveredundertheADSWarranty.
#2FLUSHOUT—Donotinstallsprayarmuntilmachineisflushedwithwater.Whenthismachineisturned
on,,firstfillbypushingandholdingthebuttonmarkedFILLuntilwaterinsidethepanreachesthewater
leveldecalontheoutsideofthepan,thenpushthebuttononfrontdoormarkedSTARTtocompleteone
cycle.Dothisbeforeinstallingthesprayarm.Dumptheflushwateroutbeforeinstallingsprayarmby
pushingthebuttonmarkedDRAIN.Drainingthewaterwillflushinstallationdebrisfromthetankand
pump;thispreventsdamagetosprayarmbearing.
#3WATERHEATERS—orboilersmustprovidetheminimumtemperatureof120Fdegreesrequiredbythe
machinelistedabove,whichhasaminimumdemandof60gallonsperhour.Therecommended
temperaturerangeforoptimalperformanceis130‐140F‐degrees.Thesespecificationsareforthe
dishmachineonly,whichtypicallyaccountsfor70%ofarestaurant’shotwaterdemand.
#4IMPORTANT—Themodelofdishmachinelistedinthisdocumentmustbeinstalledwithspacearound
theoutsidetoallowforservicingofthemotoraswellasa4”spacebehindthemachinefromthewall.It
shouldnotbebuiltintowoodencabinets.
#5INSPECTFORDAMAGE—Ifyoureceiveadamageddishmachine,donotsign“Clear”butwrite“damaged”
onthedocuments.

canloosenintransit.Looseconnectionsonhighamploadterminalssuchasthepumpmotorwillcause
wireburningandcomponentdamageduringoperationandwillnotbecoveredunderADSwarranty.
#7“CLEANCIRCUIT”meanstheelectricalcircuitbreakerforthedishmachinesuppliesnootheroutlets,
machines,orlights.GFCIoutletsarenotrecommendedforcommercialdishmachines;ADSrecommends
thatasingle‐rackmachinebeinstalledwiththewireconnection(hard‐wired)directlyfromthecircuit
breaker.Ifaplugandsocketareusedtoprovideelectricalpowertoadishmachineinacommercialkitchen,
thenaccordingtoelectricalcodeitmustbeaGFCI,butnotallGFCIsarethesame.Theymustberatedfor
thedrawofthecircuit.

Thepowersupplyfor120volts,20amps,shallconsistoftwo#10‐12‐gaugewiresandonesuitablegreen
groundwire.The20ampbreakeror20ampfusemustbeonacleancircuitforonlythismachine.ADShas

themachine.Thisjunctionboxisattachedtothelowerframeofthemachine,belowthecontrolboxwhen
thedoorisclosed.
Removethejunctionboxcover,attachtheconduitandconnectablack120voltsupplywiretotheblackwire
inthejunctionbox.Connectawhiteneutralsupplywiretothewhitewireinthejunctionbox.When
poweredup,testtheneutralwiretoagroundsourcewithavoltmeter,itshouldread0to6volts.Testthe
blackwiretoagroundsource,itshouldread110‐120volts.Attachabuildinggroundwiretothegroundlug
locatedinthejunctionboxandtightenallwires.Replacethejunctionboxcover.

toprovideoperationalheat;theoperationalhotwatermustbeprovidedbythebuilding’sprimarywater
heater.Thesustainerheaterwillnotprovidearisetotheincomingwatertemperature.Itspurposeisto
sustaintheexistinghotwatersittinginthepanofthemachineifitweretositidleforperiodsoftime.The
sustainerwillonlyoperatewhenthepumpmotorisoff.

ITISRECOMMENDEDTHATTHISEQUIPMENTBEINSTALLEDUSINGANEWCIRCUITBREAKER.
Thismachinedoesnotuseaboosterheater.
PLUMBINGSECTION
#1TANKLESSwaterheaterscanbeproblematicforcommercialdishmachines.TheADSmodelET‐AF
dishmachinerequiresthefullcycleamountofwater(1.7gallons)suppliedwithin7seconds.Ithasbeenthe
experienceofADSthattanklesssupplysystemsrequiremultipleunitsplumbedinsequencewitha
recirculationlooptoachieveproperpressureandtemperature.
Checkwiththetanklesswaterheatermanufacturer,theymayrecommendastoragetanktoguarantee
properflowandlinepressuretothemachine.Failuretoprovideadequatewaterquantity,pressureand
temperaturetothemachinewillcausethemachinetofunctionimproperlyandisnottheresponsibilityof
ADS.ImproperlyinstallingADSequipmentinthismannercouldvoidthewarranty.Allcostsassociatedwith
providinganadequatewatersupplytothemachineisthesoleresponsibilityoftheuser.
#2HOODS—Followalllocalplumbingandmechanicalcodes.IMC2012,section507.2.2requiresTypeII
hoodsforallcommercialdishwashersexceptwheretheheatandmoistureloadsareincorporatedintothe
building’sHVACsystemsordishwashingequipmentdesignedwithseparateheatandmoistureremoval

WATERHEATER—Flushthebuilding’swaterlinesbeforeconnectingtothedishmachine.Priortoconnecting
plumbing,levelthemachinebyadjustingthefeetatthebottomofeachlegupordown.Waterheatersor
boilersmustprovidetheminimumtemperatureof120Frequiredforthismodelofdishmachine,which
demandsaminimumof60GPHforET‐AF‐PDHorET‐AF‐3PDH.Temperaturesabove150Fdegreesexceed
theoperationaldesignlimitsforthesemodels.Thesemodelscannotbeconvertedtohightempsanitizing
byaddingabooster.
INLETFLEXHOSE—Domesticstyle1/2”flexiblebradedhoseshouldnotbeusedtoconnectthedishmachine
toplumbing.TheIDoftheplasticlinerforthistypehoserestrictsflow.
Tousecopperpipeplumbing,connect1/2"malepipethread(1/2”istheminimumallowablepipesize)ofthe
hotwatersupplylinetothe1/2"femalepipethreadonthedishmachine’swaterinletmanifold.
SINKFAUCET—Ifthehotwaterlineisalsosupplyingthefaucetofapre‐rinsesinkorbarsink,installcheck
valvesonbothcoldandhotwaterinletstothefaucet—toavoidcoolingthewaterbycross‐connectioninthe
mixingheadofthefaucet.ThehotwaterinletmanifoldislocatedbehindtheET‐AFcontrolboxdoorandto
theleft.Thesupplywatermusthaveaminimumof120Fdegrees,but130‐140Fdegreesisrecommendedfor
bestresults.

WaterPressureforFilling
Minimumpressureneededatthemachineis15psiDURINGthefill.ThisiscalledFLOWpressure.STATIC
pressurereadingscanbemisleadingandcandropto“0”duringfill.Withflowpressuresbelow15psi,
additionalmeasureswillbeneededtoresolvetheproblem.Thefirstsuggestionistorun3/4"pipedirectly
fromthewaterheatertothedishmachine.Iftheproblempersists,installapressurebladdertankusedfor
domesticwellwater;a5gallonsizewouldbeaminimum,10gallonasamaximum.Anotheroptionistoorder
acamtimerwithlongercycletimesbutthiswillreducehourlyproductionrates.
SimpleTestForWaterPressure
Emptythewateroutofthemachinebyliftingthedrainball,pushthemanualFILLbuttonwhilecountingthe
secondstofillbackuptothewaterleveldecal.Ifittakesmorethan20secondstofill,thereisnotenough
buildingpressuretooperatethemachineproperly.
DrainRequirements
Totherearofthemachineisfoundthedrain“Y”forthetubecomingfromthedrainpumpandthetank
overflow.DonotremovetheYfromtheback.Whenthedrainlineisrundownfrom18”offthefloor,theY
affordsprotectionfromoverflowandleakingwatersolenoidconditions.

MSDSsheets.Chemicalscandamageorcorrodeplumbingandstainlesspartsofthedishmachine.Donot
runchemicallinesovercontrolsorplumbing.Alwayssecurechemicallinesandcheckregularlyforleaks.If
notproperlyhandled,chemicalscancauseseriousbodilyinjury.Intheeventofchemicalcontacttoskinor
eyes;washimmediatelywithfreshwaterandseekmedicalattention.
INSTRUCTIONSFORDE‐LIME,Onlyperformedbytrainedchemicalspecialists.First,emptyallwateroutofthe
machinebypushingthedrainbutton.Afterallwaterhasemptiedout,fillthemachinewithfreshwater.
After,turnoffthemasterswitch.Disconnectandprotectoneofthewirestothecamtimermotorandrollthe
camtimertomid‐cycleonthewashsection.Turnonthemasterswitchtooperatethepumpmotor.Addde‐
limeagenttothefreshtankwater.Repeatthisfirststepagainbydraining,thenrefillandthenrunwithfresh
water.Thiswillflushthemachine,thenturnoffthemasterswitchandreconnectthetimermotorwirefor
normalcycles.READTHEDIRECTIONSONTHECONTAINERFORCORRECTCONCENTRATIONOFTHE
CHEMICAL.TYPICALCONCENTRATIONLEVELS1:20to1:60.
Itisbesttode‐limemoreoftenwithmilderacidsolutionsthanwaitinguntilthereisheavybuildupofwhite
minerals,thentryingtoremovethebuildupwithverystrongacidconcentrations.Usingtoostrongofanacid
solutionorrunningitforverylongperiodsoftimewillerodethemetaloftheimpellerbecauseitisspinningin
theacidsolution.

closetothemachineaspossibleandatfloorlevel.Thismayrequireshorteningoftheflexiblechemical
transfertubes.Onthesideofthecontrolboxdoor,therearechemicalprimeswitches.Thereisadecal
identifyingeachswitch.Toprimechemicals,usethesemomentaryprimeswitches,verifyingthatallthree
pumpsrotate.Ifachemicalpumpsqueezetubehastakenaset(notallowingthepumptoturn),manuallyfree

thepumpbypullingonthedischargeside(right‐hand)ofthesqueezetubewhilepushingtheprimeswitch.
Squeezetubesshouldbereplacedatleasteverysixmonths.
CONTAINERS:TheADSchemicaldeliverysystemisdesignedfor5gallonpailsofindustriallow‐energy
chemicalproducts.Alwaysusechemicalresistantsafetyglovesandsafetygoggles(indirect‐ventedornon‐
vented)whenchangingchemicalbuckets.ImmediatelyreportspillsandrefertoyourchemicalsuppliersSDS

AnymodificationstothechemicaldeliverysystemforsmallercontainersmustincludeClosedLoopChemical

topurchasechemicalsinspillproofcontainers.FAILURECANRESULTINSERIOUSINJURY.Neverplace
chemicalsinopencontainersorcontainersthatcanbeeasilytippedoverwhenmovingorchangingproduct.
FailuretodosowillvoidyourADSwarranty.
CHEMICALADJUSTMENT—Chemicaldispensingiscontrolledbyamechanicalcamtimer.Allchemicalproducts
mustbeadjustedfortheproduct’sconcentrationandlocalwaterconditions.Itwillbenecessarytoadjust
initialfactorysettings(SeebelowforCamTimerAdjustmentSection).Watersoftenersshouldbeaddedto
correcthardwaterconditions.Hardwaterisoftentreatedwithmoreexpensiveware‐washingchemicals,but
itismoreeffectiveandlessdestructivetothemetaltosoftenthewaterbeforeitcomestothedishmachine.
AUDIBLECHEMICALALARMOPTION—Theoptionalchemicalalarm(P/N031‐0326)usesapressureswitchwith
abarbfittingthatextendsfromthecontrolboxandconnectstothechemicallinebymeansofa“t”fitting.
Theswitchsendsvoltagetoabuzzerlocatedinthecontrolbox.SensitivityisadjustedbyanAllenwrench
(5/64”or2mm)toturnascrewlocatedinthecenterofthebarb(seephotoabove*).Removethetubefromthe
barb;turnthescrewtotherightforlesssensitivity.Chemicalbucketsmustbeplacedonthefloorforthe
pressureswitchtowork.

chemicalsanitizerfeeder,includingavisualmeanstoverifythatdetergentsandsanitizersaredelivered
oravisualoraudiblealarmtosignalifdetergentsandsanitizersarenotavailablefordeliverytothe
respectivewashingandsanitizingsystems.Pleaseseeinstructionsforelectricalandplumbing
connectionslocatedinthismanualandinthefeederequipmentmanual.”
‐‐avisualmeanstoverifythatdetergentsandsanitizersaredelivered;oravisualoraudiblealarmto
signalifdetergentsandsanitizersarenotbeingdeliveredtotherespectivewashingandsanitizing
systems.
ForADSfamilymodelsofET‐AFandthemodelASQ,thechemicalFlowIndicator(084‐6403)isthevisual
meanstoindicateliquidisflowinginthefeedersystemfordetergentandsanitizer.Ineachofthetubes
machinedthroughtheclearplastichousing,thereisablackcoloredmarble(099‐1008).Squeezetube
material(092‐2000)isinsertedinbothupperandlowertubeopenings.Thesetubesarepushedintotheholes
ofthehousingandheldinplacebytensionofthetubewallagainstthehousing’sinnersurface.When
insertingthesqueezetubesintothehousing,lubricationusingdishsoapishelpful.
Whenthetoptubeoftheindicatorisconnectedtotheinletsideofthechemicalperistalticpump,liquidis
drawnupthroughthesupplytubeofthechemicalbucket.TheliquidisdrawnintothebottomoftheFlow
Indicatorhousingandliftstheblackindicatormarbleupwardinthevisualchamber.Thismovementshows
flowoftheliquidinthetube.Thetubewithredcoloredliquidwillindicatedetergentflowing,thetubewith
clearliquidwillindicatesanitizer(chlorine)flowing.
Theoperatorshouldbeinformedthatthismovementofthemarblesinthehousingisthevisualindication
thatchemicalsarebeingdeliveredforthewashingandsanitizingoperationsofthedishmachine.
Managementshouldbenotifiedifthereisnomovementoftheindicators.

CAMTIMERADJUSTMENTSECTION
Timersareavailablewith7‐or8‐cams.Thecycletimesarenotadjustable.Thecamsofthetimerarewheels
whosepositionsareeitherfixedoradjustable.Eachcamcontrolsaspecificmachinefunction,asnotedonthe
timerdecal.Adjustablecamsarecomprisedoftwowheelsheldtogetheratthehub.Theperimeterofeach
wheelisdividedinto180‐degreesofhighcamand180‐degreesoflowcam.Whenoneofthesewheelsis
rotatedonthehubinrelationtotheopposingwheel,thetwolowercamsegmentscanformanotchinthe
perimeter(seephotobelowright).Aboveeachcamisatimerswitchwithametalfingerthatridesalongthe
outeredgeofthecam.Whenthefingerdropsintothelowercamnotch,thefunctionofthatcamstarts.
CamadjustmenttoolTemperatureindicatorSprayarmpressuretester#088‐1048
Towidenthenotch(length=timeenergized)orclosethenotchusethetimeradjustmenttool,whichis
providedandtapedtothecontrolboxshelf.Thistoolhastworaisedbuttonsthatfitintotheholesontheside
ofeachwheel.Thefactorysetsthestartofeachfunctionusingtheright‐sidewheelofthecam.TOADJUST
rotateonlytheleft‐sidecamwheel.Theleft‐sideofthewheelcontrolsthepointwhenthatspecificfunctions
ends.Factorysettingsareonlyinitialsettings,adjustmentswillberequiredforeachchemicalandthewater

Tuningisessentialforpropercleaning;donotskipthisIMPORTANTPROCEDURE
Thekeytounderstandingpropertuningistorealizethatthedrainsequencecannotbechanged.Itisafixed
timefunctionandtheregulatorofthecyclebetweenwashandrinse.Therefore,alltuningisaccomplishedby
settingoradjustingthefillcaminrelationshiptothefixeddraincam.Thegoaloftuningistoeliminateall
soiledwashwaterthroughthedrain,beforethedraincloses.Asignthatsoiledwashwaterhasexitedthe
tankwillbethetypicalhollowsoundofapumprunningwithoutwater.
ItisatthispointthattheH2O(FILL)camshouldbeadjustedsothewatersolenoidturnsthefillwateron.That
functioniscontrolledbytheadjustmentofthefillcam.Foroptimumresults,allowthefillwatertoflushthe
interiorofthemachineforafewsecondsbeforethedraincloses.Oncethedrainisclosedthefillcyclebegins.
Fillmustcontinueuntilfullsprayarmpressureisreached.Thiscanbeverifiedwiththeuseofasprayarm
pressuretester(Kit#088‐1048)attachedwhereoneoftheendplugsareusuallyscrewedintothelowerwash
arm.Thetestergaugewillindicatefullsprayarmpressurewhentheneedlestopsfluctuatingandremains
steady.AdjustthefillcamtoturnthewaterOFFwhenthispointofsteadypressureisreached.Itisimportant
thatthemachineisnotoverfilled.UsejustenoughwatertoreachFullSpray‐armPressure(FSP),nomore
thanthatisneededforproperoperation.

lockcanoccurwherethepumpisturningbutthereisnospraying.
Ifthisvaporlockoccurs,checkincomingwatertemperatureandreducethetemperatureifitisabove140‐
150F.Operatingtemperatureof120Fdegreesistheminimum,130‐140Fdegreesisrecommended.Ifthe
problemiscausedbylowwaterpressuretothemachine,thenseethePlumbingSectionabovetocorrectthat
condition.Ifvaporlockisstillpresent,electricallystoporpausethepumptoreleaseair.Thismachinehasa
7‐camtimer,thispausefeatureiswiredintothe7thcamfromthefactory.

FINALINSTALLATIONCHECKLIST
1ChecktobesurepowerisdisconnectedatthebreakerandthecontrolboxisswitchedOFF.
2Themasterswitchislocatedonthesideofthelowerdoor,whichhousesthecontrolbox.Openwash
cabinetdoorandremoveallpackaging,saveallinstructionsforfuturereference.
3Removethewhiteprotectivefilmfromdoors,frontpanel,andcontrolbox.
4Checkdishtableplacement,ifoneisusedwiththedishmachine.
5Turnonwatersupply.Checkforleaks.Tightenconnectionsifneeded.
6TOOPERATE—turnonthemainpowercircuitbreakerandswitchthedishmachinemasterswitchtoON
position.Removesprayarmandmanuallyfillthemachinewithwaterusingthefillswitch(labeledFILL).This
switchislocatedonthefrontfacingsurfaceoftheloweraccessdoor.Runonecompletecyclebyclosingthe
door,pushthestartswitch(labeledSTART).Thisfirstrunwillbetheflushcycle,whichremovesinstallation
debrisfromwashtankandpump.

8PUMPFILTERS—Inspectthesumpareaandverifypumpfiltersareinplace.Theprimaryfilterisboltedin
placeandshouldnotberemovedbytheend‐users.Ifthesecondaryfilterbasketisusedproperly,thiswill
avoidunnecessarycleaningoftheprimaryfilter(whichshouldonlybecleanedbyqualifiedpersonnel).The

secondaryfilterbasketisusedtoblockthepathforpicksandstraw’sthroughtheprimaryfilterholes;it
catchesandholdssolids.Thesecondary(loophandle)shouldnotberemovedbeforedrainingthemachine.It
shouldberemovedandemptiedonlyafterthemachineiscompletelydrained—likethetrayofascrapbox.
Verifythatchemicalfeedlinesareintheirpropercontainerandthatlinesareprimed.Postanoperational
wallchartclosetothemachine.
Donotopendoorswhilemachineisincycle.Doingsocouldresultinseriousbodilyinjuryfromsprayinghot
