2.5 Safety during operation
• The appliance must be switched off whenever:
– you put it down, e.g. to recharge it or stop cutting
hair for a short period.
– you fit or remove a comb attachment.
¾The cable must not touch the blade set during opera-
tion.
¾Use the trimmer only in combination with the original
accessories (charging unit, comb attachments, re-
chargeable battery, power cord with mains adapter
etc.).
2.6 Lithium ion battery
The appliance ships with an integrated, rechargeable
lithium ion battery, which is characterized by very high
capacity combined with low weight.
The battery does not suffer from any "memory effect"
and offers a long service life, if handled correctly.
¾Protect the battery against mechanical damage of
any kind, e.g. powerful impacts or strong pressure. Do
not try to open, repair, or otherwise manipulate the
battery under any circumstances.
¾Do not short out the battery. With the battery
removed from the appliance, the battery contacts
must not be connected by metal objects (e.g. hairpin,
scissors or metal tail comb) under any circumstances.
¾Do not expose the battery to extreme temperatures
(below 0 °C or above + 40 °C). For instance, avoid
proximity to heating devices or direct sunlight.
DANGER
¾Do not touch the blade set while the
appliance is active.
DANGER
Incorrect handling of the lithium ion
battery can cause the destruction,
explosion or ignition of the battery.
¾Therefore, always observe the following
safety advisories.

ENGLISH
13
¾Charge the battery only with the battery installed in
the appliance, using the original accessories
(charging unit or power cord) and observing the
correct contact polarity.
¾Charge the battery only in dry rooms and never in the
vicinity of acids or easily flammable materials.
¾Do not throw the battery into fire.
¾Only use the original battery for this appliance.
¾The battery must not be touched by water.
¾Do not try to extinguish a burning lithium ion battery
with water under any circumstances. Use sand or
some other smothering substance for extinguishing
the fire.
¾In the event that electrolytic solution escapes from
battery, avoid contact with skin, eyes and mucosa.
Immediately rinse the affected areas with plenty of
clear water and see a physician.
NOTE
If you are not going to use the appliance for any extended
period, store the appliance or its battery, respectively,
charged to 40-60 % of its capacity in a cool and frost-
protected place (approx. 15 °C).
This measure serves to prevent premature aging of the
battery.
2.7 Cleaning, care and storage
Never attempt to remove dust or foreign bodies from in-
side the appliance with pointed objects (e.g. with the tail
of a comb).
¾Do not use aggressive or abrasive cleaning products
to clean the appliance.
¾Do not wind the power cord round the trimmer. This
could break the cable.
DANGER
The trimmer must be switched off and
unplugged if:
– you want to clean or oil the appli-
ance.
– you want to change the rechargeable
battery.
WARNING
To avoid excessive wear on blade set and
motor, clean the blade set regularly and
apply oil to the appropriate points (see
“Cleaning and care” on page 17).

ENGLISH
14

blade set and motor

ENGLISH
18
Cleaning the blade set
If used regularly, the blade set 4should be thoroughly
cleaned once a day.
Oiling the blade set
The blade set 4must be oiled regularly - preferably dai-

¾Run the trimmer for about 20 seconds to ensure that
the oil is properly distributed. - You can carry on
working if you want to.
Replacing the blade set
The blade set is subject to wear. Even if you look after the

orate. Replace the blade set when it is worn. The blade
set can be ordered separately as a spare part from
Aesculap Customer Service (see addresses at the end of
these instructions).
WARNING
Damage to the blade set caused by its

7. What should I do if ...
… the appliance will not switch on?
¾Is the function lock activated? Place the trimmer in
the connected charging unit to deactivate the func-
tion lock.
¾Is the battery low? Charge up the trimmer in the
charging unit or work with mains power (power cord
plugged directly into the trimmer).
¾Charging the trimmer at high ambient temperatures
(>35 °C) may trigger the safety cutout, which tempo-
rarily stops the appliance working. Let the trimmer
cool down for 5-10 minutes. Then the trimmer is
ready for operation again.
¾Slide the cover off the trimmer.
¾Remove the old rechargeable
battery from the trimmer and
carefully detach the mini plug
by pulling upwards.
WARNING
When there is no rechargeable battery in
the trimmer, do not connect the trimmer
to the power cord 11 or place it in the
charging unit 8 that is connected to the
mains. Either action can damage the
electronic system.
¾Carefully insert the mini plug of
the new rechargeable battery
into the trimmer so that it fits
into the appropriate socket.
¾Insert the new rechargeable bat-
tery, slide the cover back onto
the trimmer, and screw up the
