1. Prot ct optical conn ctors by l aving th conn ctor cov rs in plac on unus d fib r
conn ctions and on th fib r tips th ms lv s.
a. P rsonn l who r mov and r plac fib r conn ctors or fib r pigtails should b quipp d
with a fib r cl aning kit. Th s ar availabl as off-th -sh lf it ms from a suppli r of fib r
optic acc ssori s.
b. Propyl Alcohol and lint-fr tissu or cloth may b us d to cl an fib r conn ctor tips.
c. Do not us rubbing alcohol mix d with wat r. This can caus additional spots.
d. Cl an th fib r by pulling th conn ctor tip across th tissu , th n turn th conn ctor 90
d gr s and r p at it in a diff r nt spot on th tissu .
. Don’t pull th fib r across and th n push it back. This will put th dirt that was cl an d off
back on again.

2. Wh n r moving fib r cabl s from fib r syst m ports, it is good practic to cl an th m again.
3. Install r must pay att ntion to th b nd radius of th fib rs. A g n ral rul is to hav a 3-
inch (8cm) b nd radius. A b nd radius l ss than 3 inch s may caus att nuation also known
as optical signal loss.

compatibl with NTSC, PAL and SECAM formats and support s l ctabl RS-232, RS-422 and 2 or
4-wir RS-485 data int rfac s with sp ds up to 1 Mbps. Plug-and-play d sign nsur s as of
installation and no us r l ctrical or optical adjustm nts ar r quir d. F atur s includ low

5.0 Installation
Th ALBA FIBER SYSTEMS S ri s AFS5001 products ar int rchang abl b tw n Standalon
and Rackmount. Cards units occupy two slots in Alba’s standard 19"x4U chassis s ri s AFS940-1
with on pow r supply (total 9 cards) or ASF940-2 with 2 pow r suppli s (total 8 cards). To
install card and pow r supply, k p th ori ntation of Alba logo on top and slid onto th top
and bottom card guid s in th chassis. Pr ss s cur ly on th top and bottom of th card to
nsur that it is fully s at d so that th l ctrical conn ctor mat s with th chassis-mount d
moth rboard. Onc install d, manually tight n th two thumbscr ws locat d at th top and
bottom of th card. Do not us tools to s cur th s and do not ov r tight n.

10.0 Troubleshooting

Problem: Car oes not fit in chassis slots
Action: Ch ck card ori ntation. Alba logo must b locat d on th top sid of th card. Pl as
nsur th card guid s in th chassis ar align d with th xtrusion on th card.
Problem: Car power LED oes not light when power to the car /subrack is applie or power
in icator turns on an off
Action: Ch ck pow r supply to nsur that it is plugg d in and turn d on. If flashing continu s,
mov card, if anoth r slot is availabl in th sam chassis.
Problem: No vi eo at output of car
Action: Ch ck to nsur that th input vid o of th sp cific chann l is op rating - th LED must
b ON. Also, ch ck to nsur that th optical LED on r c iv r is ON. If vid o is still abs nt, ch ck
to nsur that th monitor is ON and that th coaxial cabl is conn ct d to th corr ct vid o port
on th Rx card.
Problem: Vi eo image is ark
Action: In cam ra OSD - ch ck th iris control on th cam ra to nsur that it is op n as p r
th nvironm ntal conditions.
Problem: No Data
Action: Ch ck that both th transmitt r and r c iv r cards ar s t to transmit/r c iv th sam
data format and that th data conn ctions ar corr ct. Ch ck to nsur that th data sourc is
op rating prop rly.
Problem: No Ethernet Data
Action: 1 – On fib r units (TX/RX) – Ch ck to nsur that a TX unit is optically conn ct d to a
RX unit. A TX or a RX will not communicat with a card of th sam typ TX or RX.
2 – Ch ck to nsur th corr ct conn ction of LAN cabl . Also, ch ck to nsur that th optical
LEDs on transmitt r and r c iv r ar ON.
Problem: Fiber system oes not work
Action: 1 - th r is a simpl rul to try. R plac TX sid with an TX that is known to b fully
op rational. If Link works, original TX is faulty. If no r sults, r -install original TX. Now r plac
RX with unit that is known to b fully op rational. If link works, original RX is faulty. If no
r sults, pl as us Light sourc on on nd and pow r m t r on oth r nd to m asur light in
cabl . It is possibl that optical conn ctors on cabl (on or both) ar faulty.
