1. PRODUCT OVERVIEW
The GSM Modem allows an Aidcall Customer Service Engineer to connect to a Touchsafe Pro Nursecall
panel from a remote PC to perform on line diagnostics.
The GSM Modem will normally be connected to the Master Panel as this will have a copy of all the data
used to run the system and a full set of system logs. Please note the Modem only allows the site data to be
viewed remotely, no changes can be made to the panel setup via the Modem connection.
TYPICAL SETUP
Remote Site Aidcall Customer Services
In order to successfully run a session with a remote panel, the remote panel must be configured to allow a
connection to a fixed IP address. This will normally be the address of an ADSL router and the address will be
supplied by the Internet Service Provider. The panel connects to the fixed IP address which should then
have been set up to forward the information through to the required PC.
A modem connection can only be established by ringing the panel from a recognized mobile phone number
previously setup in the panel configuration, alternatively the site Manager will have to press the Connect
button on the panel when requested by the Customer Services Engineer.
The connection is made on Port 8080 and therefore data arriving on this port should be allowed
through the Firewall for the required address.
The GSM Modem is compatible with Touchsafe Pro Panel V2.00a software onwards.
To check the Panel software version press and hold the “Supply: OK” button in the bottom
right hand corner of the Main Screen for 6 seconds then release.

8. TOUCHSAFE PRO PANEL SETUP
Go to the Touchsafe Pro Master Panel (ID 1), Logon as an Engineer or Manager and select the GSM Modem
option…
Accept Call From: If the telephone number of the engineer is entered into this test box and an engineer
makes a mobile call to the panel, the number will be compared to the incoming call and if there is a match,
the panel will initiate an IP connection to the Remote IP Address.
Remote IP Address: This is the number of the Router connected to the internet in the initiators building.
By default this is set to 82.69.230.11. If required, this can be changed to an IP address chosen by the
Engineer. If the IP address has been changed and Aidcall are required to connect, then the user should
select the “Connect To Aidcall”checkbox. This will override the IP address shown in the box above it.
In the event that a different entry is required, it is possible to add a file to the “Site”directory on the SD
card called “AidcallIP.txt”. This file can be set to the required IP address e.g. 10.23.10.45.
If this is done, checking the “Connect To Aidcall”checkbox will result in an IP connection being made to the
address contained within the file.
SIM Number: This is the number supplied with the SIM card that is inside the GSM Modem and must be
entered manually from the documentation supplied with the SIM. This is the number that the Engineer will
call to initiate a connection.
APN Details: The unit should be supplied with a CSL Dual Comm SIM. If this is not the case, the APN details
of the SIM should be entered in the ”APN Details”box. The information above the APN Details box
indicates the signal strength of the GSM Modem coverage with respect to the GSM network.
Sessions: This will normally be set to 1 when a connection is in progress. Failure to close a connection in a
controlled manner may result in this value being incremented each time a connection is made and not
closed down in a controlled manner. If this number reaches 32 the unit will not connect until the modem
has been powered down and back up or the Reset button has been pressed.
If the Modem is detected by the panel, the CONNECT button will be enabled and the Signal Strength will
show a valid value. As an alternative to an Engineer dialling into the panel, the CONNECT button can be
pressed and that will start a connection.
Figure 1
The configuration screen is shown here.
See below for details on setup.
Note: this only needs to be set on the
Master Panel (ID 1) to which the Modem
is connected.
Press the Save button then Close to exit.

Doc No. FM5626 issue A Page 11
8. TOUCHSAFE PRO PANEL SETUP
Text Error To Caller: If the panel cannot make a connection to the remote IP address, an SMS can be sent to
the mobile number entered in the “Accept Call From”field.
This will indicate the IP address that it is attempting to connect to, the signal strength and the stage of the
connection at which the failure occurred, e.g.
Signal Strength: The signal strength level can be interrogated by pressing the SIGNAL STRENGTH button.
The GSM modem should be positioned to ensure that it has the strongest mobile signal strength.
A test call should be made to ensure that the system is fully functional.
Clear List: Text can be cleared from the list box by pressing the CLEAR LIST button. The screen image in
Figure 1 above shows the message presented when no modem is connected. The other information shows
the state of the connection during the call sequence such as Errors and connection states.
Save: The settings can be saved to a file so that they are available the next time the GSM is used by
pressing the SAVE button.
Disconnect In: This shows a countdown period. If no communication is received during a connection from
the remote user for approx 2 minutes, the panel will start to disconnect from the remote PC.
Every time a new command is received from the remote user, the timer is refreshed.
In the event that the Manager of the site wants to close the GSM connection then the RESET MODEM
button should be pressed to perform a controlled shutdown. The connection is closed once the message
COMPLETE is shown below the CONNECT button.

10. RUNNING THE PC SOFTWARE
Double Click on the shortcut to run the software, the following application will appear…
Note: the remote Touchsafe Pro panel must be configured to allow the connection and the connection
process must be started by either pressing the “Connect”button at the remote panel or by dialling into the
panel from a mobile phone.
Each of the tabbed pages can be used to collect the required data from the remote panel.
Once the panel has connected, its connection status is shown in the lower left of the application and a
timer will decrement to show the remaining connection time. If no further request to the panel is made,
the timer in the panel will count to zero and begin disconnection from the PC application. If further
requests to the panel are made before the disconnect timeout has lapsed, the timer is refreshed. The
timeout is set to 2 minutes. Once the PC application detects that there is less than 30 seconds of
connection time left, the “Remote Disconnect Timer”will flash between Red and Black text as a warning.
If at any time the Close button is pressed, the remote panel will detect that the IP link between the
two has been broken and will begin the disconnection phase with the GSM modem.

11. REQUEST GENERAL INFORMATION
Press the “Request General Information” button to display information relating to the general settings of
the panel such as Date, Time, Network ID, Preamble and software versions of the panel;
Note: this information can be saved at any time for future reference. By default the data will be saved to
C:\Temp\Site Name. The user should edit the bottom right hand corner text box if a specific site name is
required. If the directories do not exist, the application will attempt to create them.

If there is a requirement to add a Call Point to a site, an existing unit can be cloned.
Note: cloning a unit can only be performed within the same Zone. If a unit were allowed to be cloned in an
unknown zone, radio coverage may be compromised and is therefore not allowed.
Once the device has been requested, the “Clone”button can be pressed and a device can be cloned.
The clone screen below shows the panels that the device is set to be shown on. The Name, House Code and
ID can be changed to suit requirements.

13. REQUEST ATX LIST
Once the required parameters have been entered, they can be transmitted to the panel. A confirmation
prompt will be displayed;
If the data is sent to the main panel, it will be distributed to the other panels on the system.
This means that once this new Call Point has arrived on site it can be activated on the system.
Note: cloning of the Follow Me Lights is not allowed; this kind of configuration would be performed by an
Engineer during a maintenance visit. Addition of Call Points etc. that are not covered in the existing zones
should also be added to the system by an Engineer during a site visit.
