This Manual has all the information concerning the USE and MAINTENANCE of any ALM light-oil
burner produced by ALARKO.
Please read this Manual carefully. This will then allow the burner to operate economically with high
efficiency and be problem free. This manual should always be kept available as a source of
reference.
Our Authorized Dealers and Services will be happy to install the burner at its place of operation, and
after making the necessary connections, they will provide you with necessary information
concerning the use and maintenance of your equipment.

INTRODUCTION
DECLARATION OF CONFORMITY
for the Alarko ALM 125/2 and ALM 174/2 light oil burners;
The materials used in these products have been selected so that their safe and proper performance
are ensured. The materials and construction of these burners are resistant to all chemical,
mechanical and thermal influences to which they may be exposed during their expected service life.
No asbestos or asbestos containing materials have been used in the construction of these burners.
The installation and user instructions, data plate, packaging and other labels have been translated
into the official language of the country of destination, and take into account the national installation
regulations of the country concerned.
All electrical equipment complies with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (73/23/EEC).
These burners comply with the requirements of the EMC Directive (89/336/EEC) and Machinery
Directive (89/37/EC)
Sharp borders and edges, which could give rise to injury, have been avoided.
The sealing compounds used in the construction of these burners are suitable for contact with oil
and for the mechanical and thermal conditions to which they may be subjected. They will remain
effective under normal conditions of appliance use.
The mains supply voltage can be either 230V or 400V. All electrical accessories and their
assemblies correspond to the relevant EN standards.
Provided that the principles, warnings and standards as set out in this Operation Manual are
complied with, the burner is under the warranty of ALARKO CARRIER against any faults of
materials and workmanship for a period of not less than 3 (three) years starting from the date of
sale.
The Certificate of Warranty must be filled out and forwarded to ALARKO CARRIER by the Dealer
who sold you the burner. Please ensure that this Dealer has completed and sent off the Certificate
of warranty to ALARKO CARRIER.
GUARANTEE AND SERVICE

Our ALARKO CARRIER Service Department or Authorised dealer will be pleased to help solve even
your smallest problems. You may find the address of our nearest Authorized Dealer in the
Authorized Dealers Address Booklet, which is supplied with your burner.
The minimum service life established by the Ministry of Industry and Commerce for these burners is
10 (ten) years. Pursuant to the applicable law, the producers and suppliers undertake to provide
service and spare parts to the burners for this period.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Be sure to have the installation and commissioning operations done by an Authorized Dealer or
ALARKO CARRIER Service Engineer.
Except for the operations specified in this Manual, do not touch any part of your burner
When transporting the burner, the labels stating . “This side up”and “Fragile”as placed on the
side surface of the burner packaging should be obeyed.
In cases where the burner needs to be carried after removal from its packaging, do not hold by the
heater, pump or fuel pipes. The best method of carrying the burner is to lift from the bottom of its
casing, using the combustion head as a point of support.
When selecting the burner you require, please choose a nozzle suited to the capacity required.
The regulations concerning the use of burning apparatus and boiler rooms are established by
TSE, (Turkish Standards Institute).
You may obtain information on this subject from the Alarko Carrier Service Department.
When performing daily operations, be sure to take the operating sequence into consideration when
diagnosing any fault following a prolonged period of stoppage.
It is suggested that the annual periodic maintenance of your burner as well as its commissioning
be made at the beginning of each heating season by your Authorized dealer or an Alarko Carrier
Service Engineer.
Keep any inflammable or combustible liquids/solids away from the burner.
The Alarko ALM 125/2 and ALM 174/2 light oil burners;
- are designed to use light oils having a viscosity in the range of 6 cSt at 20ºC, for the capacities
between 53,4 -174 kg/h.
- are equipped with all required safety elements according to international standards
- are equipped with an automatic ignition system, and
- are supplied with “The User Manual” , “Certificate of Warranty”, “Authorized Dealers Address
Booklet”, “Nozzles (2 pieces)”

The ALM Series burners receive the air for combustion via the air suction chamber. After passing
through this air suction chamber, the combustion air enters into the burner and reaches the
combustion head mixing point via a fan operating in the volute shaped casing. The mixing point
consists of the air diffuser and the combustion head. Here, the fuel injected by the nozzle mixes with
air to form an ideal burning mixture. This way, smooth combustion and maximum fuel savings are
obtained.

The front edge of the burner’s combustion head should exceed the boiler cover
thickness by a minumum t value (t=10-14 cm), (See figure 1).

Warning: The space between boiler door
insulation and combustion chamber must
be filled with a flame resistant insulation
material such as ceramic fiber blanket. If
such an insulation is not applied, the
burner can me defected because of high
temperature.
This insulation must be applied in a way
that it can be removed when needed.
Because combustion head may be needed
to be move later.

The fixing plate (flange) (9) should be
prepared according to the dimensions
given in Figure 2. The boiler connection
flange (4) may be used a template for
the M10 holes.
The top view of the burner is
shown in Figure 3. In order to
connect the burner to the boiler,
remove the nut (1) first.
Then remove the hinge rod (3)
and detach boiler connection
flange (4) from hinge (2) (See
figure 4).
The boiler connection flange (4) is installed
on the boiler (7) with its hinge on the right
hand side when viewed from the front.
Accordingly, the boiler connection flange
(4) is fixed using four M 10 bolts (5) so that
the boiler combustion head enters into the
boiler (7) and that the gasket (6) is between
fixing plate (9) and boiler connection flange
(4), using (See figure 5).

Fix the burner by pushing its diffuser group (10) through the boiler
connection flange (4) Then loosely fix the nut (1) on the stud (8). (See figure
6). The hinge piece (2) on the burner is coupled with the hinge on the
connection flange (4) by aligning with the hinge rod (3).Then nut (1) is
tightened (See figure 7).
PUSHING FORWARD AND PULLING BACK
The pulling operation is performed
until the burner rest on the hinge
protrusion smoothly (See figure 8).
By this way, the burner can be
adjusted to a maximum point on the
right hand side without hitting its
diffuser disc to any adjacent part
(See figure 9). The operation of
pushing forward will need to be
performed carefully in reverse order
to the pulling back until the diffuser
is seated in place correctly.

Following the connection to the
boiler and the pushing forward and
pulling back operations, the burner is
pulled back from the nozzle holder
onto which the nozzle is to be
installed is reached. The plastic plug
on the nozzle holder is removed and
the nozzles supplied in the
accessories bag are fitted. Further
information on nozzle sizing is
provided in the sections dealing with
nozzle selection.
These burners have the following
Advantages:
1) The combustion head and diffuser
are easily accessible during all
service and maintenance operations.
2) The nozzle and ignition electrodes
may be easily replaced via the screw
connections.
3) The combustion head may be
removed together with the
connecting piece by unscrewing two
M6 cylindrical screws (11) (See
figure 10).
ELECTRODE ADJUSTMENTS
Check the dimensions of the electrodes with respect to the nozzle after every adjustment
on the diffuser. The dimensions are in millimeters.

COMBUSTION HEAD-DIFFUSER ADJUSTMENT
The combustion head and the diffuser must be properly adjusted in order to ensure
efficient combustion.
The adjustment values shown below represent average values obtained during testing
to the EN 267 requirements. Depending on the different boiler room conditions, the
combustion values attained by these adjustments may be improved.
The dimensions “b" and “a”are the distance between the nozzle tip and diffuser disc
top surface and the distance between the combustion head edge and diffuser disc top
surface, respectively. They should be adjusted according to the following graphs,
depending on the operating capacity required

Remove the diffuser group
(10) of burner (See figure
13)from the boiler (See
figure 14) with the help of
the hinges (2).
Unscrew the two M6 bolts
(11) and remove the
combustion head from the
boiler connection flange (4)
(See figure 15).
Working through the
combustion head, loosen the
bolt (12) on the combustion
head (See figure 16).

Measure the distance between
diffuser disc and combustion head
(See figure 17), after assembling
the combustion head onto the
diffuser group, this group is
removed with the help of the
hinges.
In order to adjust the desired
distance, move the combustion
head (14) over to the combustion
head connecting piece (13) and
adjust its distance. Assemble the
combustion head together with the
connecting piece again on the
diffuser group and check the
adjusted distance with calilipers
(See figure 16).
Continue adjusting the combustion
head (14) and checking the
distance until the desired distance
is achieved. Once the adjustment
has completed, tighten the bolt
(12). Fix the combustion head onto
the boiler using the two M6 bolts
(11), then push the burner forward
with the help of the hinges (2) and
assemble the burner to the boiler
(See figure 18).

COMBUSTION AIRFLOW ADJUSTMENT BY DAMPER MOTOR
The combustion air enters in the burner via air suction chamber. A flap in the air
suction chamber adjusts this airflow. The air damper actuator in two stage burners
operates this air flap. The system consists of a 1st stage airflow adjustment cam,
2nd stage airflow adjustment cam and 1st stage to 2nd stage transition cam. The
stroke of LKS 160 air damper actuator is 90oand it takes 5 seconds to complete a
full stroke.

COMBUSTION AIRFLOW ADJUSTMENT WITH AIR DAMPER (LKS 160)
During operation of the burner, the first stage operation is performed with a
reduced air supply. Any airflow adjustment should be made at the start of
combustion airflow trial. Check the burner for correct operation at this time.
The curves below show the air flap adjustment points as a function of boiler
capacity.

COMMISSIONING
Remove the electrics panel cover to allowing access to the power supply cables
and boiler thermostat cables via the cable entry unions. Connect the cables as per
the wiring diagram (see page 21 and 22). These connections are of split type, and
will allow you to connect the phase leads to terminals L1, L2 and L3 and the
ground lead to terminal N. Connect the earth wire to the point indicated with a
grounding mark, boiler thermostats to terminal BT and the safety thermostat to
terminal ST. Then re-assemble the electric panel cover.
FUEL PUMP
FUEL HOSE CONNECTION
Fuel hose connections are made by two G1/2. threaded connections. Both
suction and return connections use the same connection types. The following
picture shows the suction and return sides of the oil pump where the oil hoses
are connected (Figure 20).
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION
The gear set draws oil from the tank through the built-in filter and transfers it via
a valve that regulates the oil pressure to the nozzle line. Any excess fuel returns
to the tank. The pump must be free of any leakage, and bled prior to the burner's
operation.

STARTING THE BURNER
To start the burner press the ON/OFF switch (Meme
1) on the control panel as shown in the picture right.
When the ON/OFF switch is on, first stage operation
of the burner begins.
To start the 2nd stage, that is the full rate of the
burner, the second stage switch (Meme 2) should be
pressed as well.

OIL DELIVERY
Rated speed : 2850 rpm - Viscosity : 5 cSt - Pressure : 9 bars
The annexed charts (Page 20) give the maximum length (in meters) of suction
line as a function of three variables :
•lift between fuel unit and tank (H),
•nozzle capacity or pump type,
•pipe diameter (d),
for an altitude of 200 m above sea level and 0,45 bars vacuum.
The length indicated (intersection of horizontal lines and columns) assumes that
the fitting of four right angle bends, one stop valve,one non return valve have
been done. If additional restrictions exist (particularly the filter in the suction line),
the length must be reduced accordingly. Only previously specified pipe sizes can
be used, bigger pipes are not suitable.
Altitude correction : if X is the altitude (different from 200 m),
- Lift system : add the value (X-200)/1000 to the real lift height "H" , to obtain the
equivalent lift, then determine the maximum length with the annexed charts.
-Siphon feed system : reduce the real head height "H" by (X-200)/1000.
Ex : AS67 pump in two pipe lift system, with lift height = 1,5 m, altitude = 700 m,
pipe diameter = 8 mm .
Equivalent lift height : 1,5 +(700-200)/1000 = 2 m ,
Maximum pipe length = 13 m.
Pressure correction : only for one pipe system.
If P is the pressure (different from 9 bars), use the theoretical equivalent nozzle
capacity = (VP /3) x real nozzle capacity.
Ex : One pipe lift system, with nozzle = 4GPH, pressure = 12 bars, pipe diameter
= 6 mm , suction height = 2 m;
Equivalent nozzle capacity = (12/3)x4 = 4,62 GPH. The maximum pipe length is
comprised between 30 m (corresponding to 4 GPH) and 20m (corresponding to
6 GPH), that means around 27 m .
PUMP PRESSURE REGULATION
A pressure gauge is connected at the connection point No. 5 for pressure
monitoring. A vacuum gauge is connected at the connection point No. 3 for
vacuum monitoring. Any bleeding operation must be performed during the burner
operation until the fuel flows without any air bubbles being observed from the
pressure gauge connection point when it is loosened slightly. Re-tighten this
connection before increasing the pump pressure. The pump pressure is
increased by turning the pressure adjusting screw (5) clockwise. The pump
pressure can be regulated up to 30 bars.

NOZZLE
The nozzle injects the fuel pumped under pressure by the pump into the combustion
chamber. The fuel, upon striking to the air at a high speed pulverizes into very tiny
particles, this is now capable of vaporizing and mixing with the air.
The amount of fuel sprayed in US gallon per hour at 7 bar and the spray
angles are stamped on the nozzles by the manufacturer, together with the
spray pattern indicated by a symbol (See figure 22).
