up considerably. For safety reasons, minimum ventilation must be as shown in Fig. 3.
Attention: keep ventilation openings clear of obstruction.
Before any cleaning or maintenance work is carried out, be sure to switch off and unplug
the appliance.
If the appliance has been transported horizontally, it is possible that the oil contained in
the compressor flows in the refrigerant circuit. It is advisable to wait at least two hours
before connecting the appliance to allow the oil to flow back in the compressor.
The inner lining of the appliance consists of channels through which the refrigerant
passes. If these should be punctured this would damage the appliance beyond repair and
cause food loss. DO NOT USE SHARP INSTRUMENTS to scrape off frost or ice. Frost
may be removed by using the scraper provided. Under no circumstances should solid ice
be forced off the liner. Solid ice should be allowed to thaw when defrosting the appliance.
See defrost instructions.
Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial means to speed up the thawing process
other than those recommended by the manufacturer.

Instructions for the user
Refrigerator compartment description
Start-up
Insert the plug into an earthed socket.
Temperature adjustment / Stop
The temperature is adjusted by means of
the knob placed inside the refrigerator.
If the knob indicates «O», the appliance is
switched off.
By turning the adjusting knob clockwise,
the temperature is reduced.
A mid position is generally the best for nor-
mal use.
Defrosting
Defrosting of the refrigerator compartment
is completely automatic.
The defrost water drains into a special
container located on the compressor,
where it evaporates.
Important
Periodically clean the defrost water drain
hole. For this purpose, use the special tool
already inserted in the drain hole.

67
Food refrigeration
Before loading the food, let the refrigerator run empty for about 4 hours, setting it on a
very low temperature. Do not fill the shelves completely. Cool air must be allowed to circu-
late freely.
Do not put warm or hot foods into the refrigerator. If the surrounding temperature is low
and the thermostat knob is set on high numbers, the temperature in the refrigerator com-
partment could drop below zero.
Warning: bottles can burst. Therefore do not forget to reset to the normal temperature
(position 3-4) after a maximum of 4 hours.
Food must be placed in the appropriate areas of the refrigerator compartment.
Refrigerator compartment internal accessories
The internal accessories have offer a number of special features:
Door liner shelves
The door liner shelves are hung from the
top. Move or clean them by lifting them
slightly.

68
Cleaning and maintenance of the refrigerator compartment
Before carrying out any cleaning or maintenance operations, unplug the appliance or turn
the thermostat knob to position «O».
We recommend using a normal domestic detergent for cleaning; remove all food, prefera-
bly when the refrigerator compartment is not very full, clean the compartment and reset
the thermostat knot to the required position.
Replacing the interior light bulb (Fig. 13)
The light inside the refrigerator compart-
ment is easy to get at through the open-
ing in the light holder.
If the light does not go on when the door
is open, check that it is screwed into
place properly.
If it still does not light up, change the
bulb.
The rating is shown on the light bulb
cover.
Description of the freezer compartment
Temperature adjustment / Freezing
The refrigerator is fitted with a freezer compartment (4-star). In this compartment
temperatures of –18°C a lower can be obtained.
This compartment allows storage of deep-frozen food and freezing of a limited quantity of
food.
1) The temperature is adjusted by means of the thermostat knob located inside the refrig-
erator.
By turning the knob clockwise the temperature is reduced. A mid position is usually the
best for normal use.
2) To freeze food, set the knob to 5-6.
3) After 3-4 hours load the food to be frozen.
4) After 24 hours reset the thermostat to “normal” temperature (position 3-4). If the sur-
rounding temperature is normal, set the knob to a mid position. Setting temperatures
lower than –18°C is a waste of energy.
5) The freezer compartment temperature can be checked by means of a special thermo-
meter.
13

69
6) Do not place bottles in the freezer compartment, except for high alcoholic content
liquids, because they can burst.
7) Do not use the freezer compartment to cool hot foods. This causes unnecessary frost
formation.
Warning! Defrosted foods cannot be refrozen. Prepare fresh food to be frozen in small
portions suitable to be consumed in one meal. Also follow the same procedure for already
cooked foods and consume them completely after defrosting.
Salt reduces the storage life of all frozen foods.
We recommend that fresh or already cooked food be frozen with little or no salt. Impor-
tant: food storage life is about three times longer without salt! Therefore add salt and
spices at a later stage, during food preparation!
Defrosting the freezer compartment
Air humidity which enters when the door is opened collects on the evaporator, in particular
on the upper part, causing a build-up of frost.
To avoid excessive frost formation do not leave the door open more than necessary. The
formation of a thin layer of frost i.e. the one which forms on the front edge of the freezer,
does not require defrosting. Remove this layer by means of a plastic scraper (do not use
knives or similar objects).
Whenever the thickness of the ice layer exceeds 3-4 mm, the appliance must be de-
frosted.
Even if the ice layer is not thick, the freezer compartment should be defrosted and cleaned
at least once a year.
To carry out complete defrosting, proceed as follows:
1) Remove the plug from the wall socket or turn the thermostat knob to position «O».
2) Remove all stored food, wrap it in newspaper sheets and put it in a container (vessel or
cardboard box, etc.) in a cool place until cleaning of the freezer compartment has been
completed.
3) Leave the freezer compartment door open.
4) Do not remove the ice or frost layer using sharp tools. Do not use any heat diffuser or
spray.
Do not use a mechanical device or any artificial means to speed up the thawing
process.
5) Dry the water which has collected during defrosting using a sponge or cloth.
6) Clean the inside using a normal domestic detergent.
7) After cleaning thoroughly dry the inside.
8) After defrosting and cleaning turn the thermostat knob to 5-6 and leave it for 3-4 hours.
After this period do not forget to reset the knob to the normal position 3-4 (mid posi-
tion)!
9) Replace the deep-frozen food in the compartment.

70
Stopping, cleaning and maintenance
Unplug the appliance before carrying out any maintenance operation.
Warning
This appliance contains hydrocarbons in its cooling unit; maintenance and recharging
must therefore only be carried out by authorized technicians.
Never use metal objects for cleaning your appliance as it may get damaged.
Whenever the appliance is not to be used for an extended period of time:
– set the thermostat knob to O= off, or pull out the plug;
– remove deep-frozen food from the freezer compartment;
– empty the refrigerator compartment;
– when the appliance is completely defrosted, clean and dry the freezer compartment
and the inside of the refrigerator as previously described;
– leave the door slightly open to avoid odour formation.
Defective operation, hints and advices
Incorrect use can often cause problems and require unnecessary visits by the service cen-
tre. The following advice is designed to avoid these problems.
The appliance does not cool sufficiently.
a) The knob has been set to an excessively low position.
b) The refrigerator has not cooled sufficiently before loading the food to be stored.
c) Too many food items have been loaded at one time.
d) The food loaded is in portions which are too large.
e) Boiling or very hot food has been loaded.
f) Food has not been arranged correctly. Cold air cannot circulate properly or its circula-
tion is insufficient.
g) Operating mistakes which can be discovered by re-reading the instructions.
h) The door has not been closed tightly .
The appliance cools excessively.
a) Turn the thermostat to a lower setting.

71
The appliance does not cool.
a) Check whether the electric plug in inserted in the socket.
b) Check current is present in the circuit by plugging in a table lamp.
c) Check whether the fuse is damaged (switch on the light or connect another device).
Traces of water found in the refrigerator compartment bottom.
a) The defrost water drain hole (in the centre of the back of the compartment) is clogged.
Remove the dirt using the special cleaner, if necessary.
b) The door has not been properly closed and an excessive quantity of frost and evapora-
tor defrost water has formed. The water in the collecting vessel overflows.
Note: slight gurgling during operation does not affect the performance and life of the
appliance.
Warning: the electrical parts must be repaired only by specialized personnel, as incorrect
repairs can cause serious damage.
What to do in case of failure
Should it be necessary to contact the local service network, provide the following data
listed on the rating plate located inside the refrigerator.
Write this data in the table above.
