Security, Design and Operation
The Autoclave Logger Thing (aLT) is designed to operate on a majority of 802.11 b/g/n
networks using standard protocols. DHCP and Static IP setup is an option.
The aLT has been designed to operate securely. Once setup, all incoming connections are
disabled. Only 2 secure outgoing connections occur over secure HTTPS connection protocols.
For Security the aLT requires a password to connect to it. The password is the device serial
number. The network configuration page is only available upon initial startup or after a hard
reset. This security feature is to prevents unauthorized access to the device and your network.
After the configuration and setup all other incoming data is disabled.
SD Card may be removed when not running a cycle, if the card is removed during a cycle it
will not be properly saved and will corrupt the data for the entire run. Removing the SD card
when logging must be avoided.
The reset button located to the left if the cable connector (figure 1) serves 2 purposes: First, a
quick press displays the IP address of the wireless connection. Second, a hard reset (held for 3
seconds) will erase all configuration data. This should be used only if you are changing

7
networks, the network password has changedor you are changing between DHCP and static
protocols.
The only function of the aLT is to mechanically record the data from the autoclave, save it
and upload it to the cloud. All proper loading, handling, storing and Biological testing should
be performed in accordance with the autoclave manufacturer.
The aLT is equipped with a battery (CR1220) to back up the Real Time Clock in the event of a
power failure. This retains the clack time and date after a power failure. With normal use the
battery should last 5 years or more. It is recommended to replace the battery every 5 years to
ensure stable operation and to prevent leakage due to a severely discharged battery.

Setup
Once installation is complete there are 3 easy steps to setup:
1. Connect to your network.
2. Configure date and time
3. Link your Dropbox account.
Important: for security set up must be completed within 5 minutes of
power up, after which your device will disable all connections. This is
designed as a security measure.
If necessary, unplug the aLT for 5 seconds then reconnect and run
setup again.

13
Note: If you have multiple devices only plug-in 1 un-setup device at a
time, to avoid confusion.
1. Connecting to your network
From any wireless device navigate to network connections.
You will See a new network called “Autoclave Logger Thing”. Connect to this network.
You will be prompted for network password. The password is the aLT serial number on the
bottom of the unit.
Note: All passwords are 8 digits long, letters are always uppercase.
The password will not contain letters “I” or “O”.
It will always be the numbers “1” or ”0”.
It may take a minute to connect. Once it is connected your device will automatically be
redirected to the configuration portal.

14
Depending on your device the configuration portal may be blocked or unable to be opened.
If the portal does not open.
Go to your web browser and in the search bar enter 192.168.4.1.
DHCP Setup
Select which type of network you will be
connecting to.
Configure Wi-Fi is DHCP setup (most common)
Configure Wi-Fi (Static IP) is for Static setup
(see following page)
Selecting Configure Wi-Fi will bring up a list of
available networks.
Click on your network. Enter the Password and Click
Save.

15
Static IP Setup
If you have a static network, it is best to let your IT department
Help walk you through this step as they will have to assign
you an IP on your network.
Static IP setup requires a few more steps.
You will need a few more pieces of information.
These values are just examples.

16
2. Time Setup
Once your device is connected you will be
redirected back to you network page.
Make sure you are connected to the same wireless
network as your aLT.
open your web browser, in the search bar
enter the number that appears on the Autoclave
Logger Thing screen (This is the IP address).
You should now see the screen on the right.
The top button selects the display time in AM/PM or 24 hr. Time.
Adjust the time Zone + or – so that the correct time is displayed
on the aLT Screen.
DST On/Off button allows you wish to activate Daylight
Savings automatically. It is recommended to leave it on “Observed”.
Click Dropbox Setup.

17
3. Drop Box Setup
Click Get Dropbox Code.
You will be redirected to Dropbox.
If you are not logged in, you will be required to login
Once you authorize your aLT to access your Dropbox
you will be given an Authorization Code.
Make sure you copy the entire key then navigate back
To the “Dropbox Setup” and paste it in the top text box.
Next enter the name of your autoclave this is connected to.
The name can be up to 24 characters in length but cannot
include special characters, (#, !, ? @, …) spaces are ok.
Click Submit.
You must see the autoclave name and “Dropbox Successfully Linked!”
in green on the bottom of your screen.

18
This last authentication step is a fairly complex framework. The Authorization Code is only
good for a few minutes and cannot be presented more than once. It the network is slow or
congested it may take a few tries.
If the aLT resets or it has not completed after 1 minute.
Simply click “Get Dropbox Code”. You should already be logged in to Dropbox. Just copy
and paste the code then resubmit.
Once you are connected you should have a new folder in your Dropbox account and a
welcome message will be sent.

19
File Storage & Dropbox
Dropbox
Your files are stored in Dropbox under
the autoclave name that was chosen
during setup.
Each cycle name is the date and time the
file was created.
To keep the files in chronological order
The file name is Year-Month-Day time (24hr)
Dropbox creates the files in the following:
Dropbox \ Apps \ Autoclave Logger Thing \ ”Your Chosen Name”
Do not move or rename anything, with the only exception is the renaming Apps folder.
The file name should be changed to name the “Autoclave Logs” or something that will be
identifiable.
Changing the other names or location will break the link and you will have to hard reset the
device and rerun setup.
