2. Overview
2.1Application Descriptions
The CDMA Wireless Data Modemis acomplexconsumer communications instrument that relies
heavilyonboth digital signal and embedded processortechnologies. The Wireless Data Modem
manufacturedbyAnyDATA.NET supports Code-Division-Multiple-Access(CDMA).This operates in
PCS spectrum.
Inacontinuing effort tosimplifythe designandtoreduce theproductioncost oftheWireless Data
Modem, AnyDATA.NEThas successfullydevelopedtheEMII-800.TheEMII-800is AnyDATA.NET s
latest compact WirelessData Modemoperatingin PCS spectrum, alsocontains complete digital
modulation and demodulation system forCDMA standards as specified in IS-95A/B and IS-2000.
The subsystemwithinthe EMII-800includes aCDMA processor(MSM5100),an integrated
CODEC withanearpiece and microphoneamplifiers, andan RS-232serial interface supportingforward
link data communications of a rate of153.6kbps.
The EMII-800provides external interface. Externalinterface includes thestandardRS-232, Digital
Audio, and External On/Offcontrol.
The EMII-800has thecapabilitytopowerdown unused circuits in ordertodynamicallyminimize
power consumption.

4. Interface Descriptions
4.1 Overview
This chapter coversinformationrequiredtodesignthe EMII-800intoasubscriber unit application.
In addition, the internal signalsthat arenecessaryforcomplete understanding ofthe UARTinterfaces are
describedbelow.
4.2 RS232 Interface(Standard)
The Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter(UART) communicates withserial data that
conformstheRS-232Interface protocol. The modem provides3.0VCMOS leveloutputs and3.0V
CMOS switchinginputlevel. And all inputshave5.0V tolerance but 3.0Vor3.3VCMOS logic
compatible signals are highlyrecommended.
All the control signalsoftheRS-232 signals areactive low, butdata signals ofRXD, andTXD Are
activehigh. The UARThasa64bytetransmit (TX) FIFO and a64byte receive(RX) FIFO. TheUART
Features hardware handshaking, programmable data sizes, programmable stopbits, and odd, even,no
parity. The UARToperates at a 115.2kbps maximum bit rate.
