Safety first!
• Please check the packing for any kind of damage on reception
of the goods. In case of a damaged carton, please contact your
dealer before opening the carton.
• !!!! Danger !!!! Exposure to high sound levels may cause a
permanent hearing loss. Individuals vary considerably to sound
pressure level induced hearing loss but nearly everyone will
lose some hearing if exposed to high sound pressure levels for
a sufficient amount of time. Therefore it is recommended that
all persons exposed to equipment capable of producing high
sound pressure levels, such as this amplifier, be protected by
hearing protection while installing or operating this unit.
• Read all documentation before operating your equipment.
• Keep all documentation for future reference.
• Save the carton and packing material even if the equipment has
arrived in good condition.
• Should you ever need to ship the unit, use only the original
factory packing.
• Do not spill water or other liquids into or on the unit.
• Make sure power outlets conform to the power requirements
listed on the back of the unit.
• Do not use the unit if the electrical power cord is frayed or
broken.

• Set level controls on amplifiers all the way down during power-
up to prevent speaker damage if there are high signal levels at
the inputs.
• Do not connect the inputs / outputs of amplifiers or consoles
to any other voltage source, such as a battery, mains source, or
power supply, regardless of whether the amplifier or console is
turned on or off.
• Power down & disconnect units from mains voltage before
making connections.
• Do not use the unit near stoves, heat registers, radiators, or
other heat producing devices.
• Do not operate equipment on a surface or in an environment
which may distort the normal flow of air around the unit.
• Do not remove the cover. Removing the cover will expose you to
potentially dangerous volt ages.
• Do not drive the inputs with a signal level higher than that
required to drive equipment to full output.
• Do not run the output of any amplifier back into another input.
• In case of mal-function this device should be serviced by
qualified service personnel only.

1. Line level inputs (IN): connect the left and/or right channel line
level audio signals here. The incoming signal is passed through
to connectors 2 (LINK). Connectors: unbalanced RCA. The
incoming audio signal on the IN input will be processed by the
integrated active low pass filter.
2. Line level inputs (LINK): the audio line level signal coming in
on 1 (IN) is passed through to these connectors. Connectors:
unbalanced RCA. The LINK signal will not be processed by the
integrated filter and is a copy of the line in signal presented at
1 (IN)
3. LFE in: low frequency effects input on unbalanced RCA
connector: connect the LFE output of your home cinema system
here: the incoming audio signal on the LFE input will not be
processed by the integrated active low pass filter.
4. Level control: set the level control potentiometer to match the
subwoofer’s output level with the main speakers.
5. Phase switch: set to normal for normal operation. Set to 180°
position when the total bass output of the subwoofer and the
main speakers is less than the output of the main speakers
alone.
6. Crossover frequency potentiometer: set this potentiometer to
set the optimal blend of the subwoofer with the main speakers:
large main speakers will benefit from a low crossover frequency.
Small main speakers may require a higher crossover frequency.
7. Standby/on led: this led is red when the speaker is in standby
mode. When the speaker is operational, the led will become
green. After a few minutes without any signal present at the
inputs, the speaker will automatically switch off to standby
mode.

8. Clip led: this led will light up when the integrated power
amplifier is being driven to its limits: lower the subwoofer level
immediately to avoid any damage to the amplifier or speaker.
9. Mains power fuse: replace only with a fuse of the same rating.
In case the fuse blows regularly, bring the unit to your dealer
for service.
10. Main power switch: flip the switch to power the unit on and
off.
11. Speaker level inputs: connect to the speaker outputs of your
power amplifier whenever a line level signal (preamp out,
subwoofer out or LFE) is not available. Maximum power of the
amplifier should be less than 200 watts per channel at 8 ohms.
Do not connect this to a 100 volt speaker line!

Installation
The Apart VINCI8S active subwoofer is designed to reproduce a fat
and deep bass at moderate sound pressure levels.
Due to its discrete design and small dimensions, the subwoofer is
very easy to integrate even in the most demanding environments.
In order to get the most satisfying sound, it is essential that you
read this section carefully prior to connecting the subwoofer to your
system.
It is generally believed that low frequencies are nondirectional and
therefore, placement of a subwoofer within the listening room is
not critical ... however :
Please note that the performance of the subwoofer is directly
related to its placement in the listening room.
Placement close to a room corner will increase the amount of bass
output, while placing the subwoofer along the middle of a wall,
or out in the middle of a room will decrease the amount of bass
output. Experiment with a number of different placement options
to find the one that best suits your particular room and musical
taste.
Other locations will provide varying degrees of low bass impact and
blending with your front speakers. We recommend listening to your
system, with the subwoofer in different room positions, to obtain a
location with an optimum response.
If you hear too little bass: try moving the subwoofer further towards
the room corner or try reversing the polarity of the subwoofer
(phase reverse).

Set up and operation
Recommended subwoofer placement:
When available, connect the VINCI8S to the preamp out of your
main audio system. Alternatively, you can connect the subwoofer
to the speaker outputs from the audio system’s power amplifier.
Once connected, the speaker operation is straight forward. Read
this section carefully and use it as a guideline. Please note that the
VINCI8S has been designed for low to modest listening levels !
First, set the level potentiometer all the way down. Set the
frequency potentiometer about halfway (12 o’clock position) and
set the phase switch to the normal position. Now power on your
audio system. Power on the VINCI8S subwoofer. The on/standby
led will light up red briefly and become green. Select a music
a) within at least 10 cm of the room corner (maximum low bass
output)
b) against the wall between your left and right front speakers
(strong low bass output with optimal blending to the main
speakers)
c) freestanding between your left and right front speakers (cleanest
low bass output with optimal blending to the main speakers)
If you need louder bass response, add more subwoofers to your
system. Adding subwoofers, installed at different positions in the
room, usually solves most room related problems, such as boomy
bass, standing waves…

source and play some music at a low level. Gently turn up the
subwoofer level potentiometer until the subwoofer “supports” your
main speakers. Adjust the frequency potentiometer for optimal
blending with the main speakers. If the bass output decreases when
the subwoofer is playing along with the main speakers, flip the
phase switch to the 180° position. Adjust the frequency and level
potentiometer and stand back a few meters:
When the bass from the subwoofer is dominantly present, the
subwoofer level and or crossover frequency should be drastically
reduced.
Now turn up the music to a decent listening level and adjust the
subwoofer’s level and frequency to perfection: you should hear and
feel the presence of the sub, but you can’t tell where the sub is
located.
Check the clip led at the rear: it should never light up. If it does,
reduce the level potentiometer of the subwoofer. In case you need
more bass than one subwoofer can provide, try using a second
subwoofer or experiment with the location of the subwoofer.
The presence of a wall or room corner will drastically increase
the output level from the subwoofer. Whenever you change the
position of the subwoofer, experiment with the level and frequency
potentiometers.
When using the LFE input, the audio signal is already filtered by the
home cinema audio system. The subwoofer’s level potentiometer
will of course still be fully functional. Set the level potentiometer at
a position where you can hear or feel the subwoofer without being
able to locate the unit.
