2.On/Off:PressandholdtoturnyourARCHOSon/off.Pressquicklytogointosleepmode.Press and
holdtosee theavailableshutdownoptions.
- Airplane mode:cutstheWiFiandBluetooth®connections.
- PowerOff:
Deepsleep:Devicegoesintosleepmode.Thissavesbatterypower.OnlytheOn/Offbutton(not
alarm) canwakeitup.
Reboot: Restartsthedevice
Poweroff:Shutsoffthedevice completely.Nobatterypowerisused.
3.Power/Chargeindicator:Withoutapowersource connected,itshowstheon/off status.While
connectedtoapowersource, blinking=fullycharged,solid=currentlycharging,quickblinking=

1.3.Firsttimeusage(charging &wizard)
CHARGINGTHEBATTERY
BeforeusingyourARCHOSforthefirsttime,completelychargeitsbattery.Connectthesupplied
powercharger/adapter.Attention:UseONLYthesuppliedARCHOScharger/adapteronyourdevice.
TheARCHOSwillturnonandstartcharging.Thebatteryiconintheupperright cornerofthescreen
willanimateagreen“filling”actionandthepower/chargeindicatorlightwillremainsolid.Once
thedeviceiscompletelycharged,theindicatorlight willstartblinking.Whennotpluggedintoa
poweradapter,theiconwilldisplaythepercentageofbatterypoweravailable.
THESTARTUPWIZARD
ThefirsttimeyouturnontheARCHOS,theinstallationwizardwillhelpyouconfigurethemain
functionsofyourARCHOS:language,country,time,etc. YoucanreruntheStartupWizardanytime
youwantbygoingto Settings>Repair&formatting>Startupwizard.
1.4.UsingtheARCHOSinterface
The
Android™interface ismadeupoffivehomescreenpanels(thehomeicon bringsyoutothecenter
one).Slideyourfingerhorizontallyonthescreentogotothetwo leftorthetworight panelsofthe
extendedHomescreen.Youcanplace shortcuts,bookmarks,and widgets onanyofthefivescreens
solongasthereisfreespace.
1.Notification messages:Dragthetopbardownwardstorevealanynotificationmessages.

ChangetheWallpaper: Taponthemenuicon andthenselect Wallpapers.
Moveanitem toanotherpartofthescreen.Holdyourfingeronituntil itenlarges,thendragitto
thedesiredlocation(makesurethereisenoughspace),andreleaseit.
Makeanapp shortcut: OpentheApplicationsTabandpressandholddown ononeofthe
applications.Itwillenlargeandjumptothehomescreen.Slideittoanemptyplaceononeofthe
fivehomescreensandthenletgo.
Makeashortcut orabookmark:Holdyourfingeronthescreenatanemptylocationandthen
choosefromthelist.
Delete ascreenitem:Holddownontheitemuntil itenlargesandthendragittotheApplicationsTab
whichhasbecomeatrashbin.
2.MAKINGAWIFICONNECTION
WhenyoudonotneedtheWiFiorBluetooth®connections,remembertodeactivatetheminorderto
savebatterypower.The Power
controlwidget found onthefarleft
homescreenallowsyoutoturnthe
WiFionand off(WiFi,Bluetooth®*,
Tethering,Sync,Brightness) asneeded.ToconfigureaWiFiconnection,youneedtobeinaWiFi
zonethatwillallowyoutoconnecttoit.EverytimetheARCHOSisinrangeofanetworkthatyou
havealreadyconfiguredonce,itwillattempttomakeaconnection(solongastheWiFisettingis
enabled).
2.1.Enabling WiFi
BeforelaunchinganInternetapplicationsuchasthewebbrowser,checktosee if youalreadyhavea
connection.Theicon inthetopright ofthescreenisonwhenyourdevice isconnectedtoaWiFi
network.Ifnotconnected,youfirstneedtoactivatetheWiFiand configureaWiFinetwork.
1. GototheHomescreen,tapontheMenu iconandthenselect Settings.
2. Inthe Settings screen,select Wireless &networks.
3. IftheWiFiisoff,taponthe Wi-Fi linetoturniton.Thenselect Wi-Fisettings.TheARCHOSwill
scanautomaticallyforavailableWiFinetworksand showallthewireless networksinrangeofyour
device.Thelistisrefreshedcontinuously.
4. Taponthenetworkyouwanttoconnectto.Networksshownwith theicon aresecured
connections(requiresapassword).Ifitisasecurednetwork,tapthepasswordfieldtomakethe

keyboard*appear,entertherequirednetworkinformation*and thentap
on Connect.YourARCHOSwillnowattempttoestablishaconnectionto
thatWiFiaccess point withthenetworkparametersyouentered.
*Forfreeaccess WiFipoints,thereisnoneedtoenteranyspecial
information.Forsecurednetworks,youwill needeitherakey(aseriesof
numbersand/orletters) ofthetypeWEP,WPA,orWPA2,oryouwill
needtohaveaWiFiaccess point thatusestheWiFiprotectionstandard
WPS(WiFiProtectedSetup).Checkwiththepersonwhomanagesthe
WiFinetworktoobtaintheexactconnectionparametersrequired.
ADVANCEDCONNECTION
TomanuallyscanforavailableWiFinetworks,gotothe Wi-Fisettings
screen,tapontheMenuicon,thentapon Scan.
IftheWiFinetworkyouwanttoconnecttodoesnotappearinthelist,
scroll downthescreen,thentapon AddaWi-Finetwork.Entertherequiredsettings,thentapon
Save.Toaccesstheadvancednetworkparameters(Regulatorydomain, IPaddress,etc),taponthe
Menuicon,thentapon Advanced.Otherparameterswill appear:therequiredinformationcanbe
obtainedfromthepersonwhomanagesthenetwork.
2.2.PossibleWiFi connectionproblems
TheARCHOSinternettabletssupportthe802.11 b,g,and nWiFiprotocols.Ifyoucannotconnectto
youraccesspoint,firstdetermineif theproblemlieswithyouraccess point orwiththeARCHOS.Try
usinganotherWiFidevice,suchasalaptopcomputeroraWi-Fienabledtelephoneandseeifthat
will connecttoyouraccesspoint.Ifitdoes,thenusethesameWiFiconnectionsettingsthatithas
onyourARCHOS.YoucouldalsotryconnectingyourARCHOStoafriend'sWiFinetworkand if this
works,changeyouraccess pointparameterstosimilarones.
POSSIBLESOLUTIONS
1. CheckyourWiFirouter/modemdocumentationtoseeifithasapairingbuttonthatneedstobe
pressed.Somemodemshavesuchabuttonthatmustbepressedtheveryfirsttimeyoutrytomakea
WiFiconnectionwithanewdevice.
2. Ifyouhavetoenterapassword(asecuritycodeoftypeWEPorWPA) beverycarefulthatyoudo
notconfusea1andI(oneandletter“I”),a0and O(zeroandletter“O”),orUandV.Theseare
commonmistakes.
3. WhenenteringasecuritycodeforyourWiFiaccess,checkthebox Showpassword whichwill
allowyoutoseeexactlywhatyouaretypingin.Thiswill avoidanymistakes.
4. SomeaccesspointsusewhatisknownasMACfiltering.Thatmeans,theWiFiaccesspointhasa
listofaccessnumbers(everyhardwaredevicehasauniqueMACnumber) whicharetheonlyones
allowedtoaccess totheWiFipoint.ThepersonmanagingtheWiFimodem/routershouldshutoff
thisMACfilteringsystemtosee if thissolvestheproblem.Itisrecommendedtoshutoff MAC
filteringingeneralasthisisnowknown tobeanoutdatedand ineffectivesystemforWiFisecurity.If
youmustuseit,youcanfindyourdevice's specificMACaddressbygoingto Settings > Wireless &
Networks > Wi-Fisettings >Menu> Advanced.Itwilllooksomethinglike00:16:dc:5e:9e:39.
5. Trytemporarilyshuttingoff theencryptionsystemofyourWiFirouter/modemtosee if theproblem
hastodowiththeencryptionsystemyouareusing.ThepreferredencryptionsystemistheWPA2.

WhenyouwanttotransferfilestoorfromtheARCHOS(photos,documents,music,video,or
applications(.apkfiles)) youcantransferthemviatheUSBcableorviaa wirelessnetwork
connection.Itisalsopossibletotransferfilesdirectlyto/fromacamera,USBstick,poweredhard
drive,oranMP3playerusingtheUSBhostport.Usetheapplication Files when transferringfilesbya
wirelessnetwork orwhentransferringfilesto/fromadevice thatisconnecteddirectlytotheARCHOS
withaUSBcable.
3.1.Connecting theARCHOStoacomputer
ConnectthesuppliedUSBcabletotheARCHOS.
1. PlugtheUSBendofthecableintoyourcomputer.
2. TheARCHOSwillturnonandaskyouifyouwanttoconnectit(Mount) ornot.Chooseto Mount it.
3. Ifyouchoosenottomountit,youcanalwaysdragthetopnotificationbardownwardstoreveal
theUSBnotificationmessageandchoosetoconnect.
4. TheARCHOSwillappearinyourcomputer's filebrowserasanexternalharddrive,ARCHOS(E:)for
example.
3.2.Transferringfilesto/fromtheARCHOS
Therearetwo mainmethodstotransferyourfilestotheARCHOS:
COPY&PASTE
UseWindows®Explorer(theFinderonMac,ortheLinux filebrowser)tocopyandpasteyourfiles
betweenyourARCHOSandyourcomputer.Whenfinishedcopyingormovingfiles,makesureyou
disconnectproperly. DonotjustunplugtheUSBcable.
WINDOWSMEDIAPLAYER
TheSynchronizebuttoninWindowsMedia®Playerisaoneway"sync"button.Itwill add video,
musicand photofilestoyourARCHOS. Itwill giveyouthepossibilitytohavethesamedigitalmedia
onyourARCHOSasyouhaveinyourWindowsMedia®Playermedialibrary.
1. Onyourcomputer,startWindowsMedia®Player11(orhigher).
2. Selectthe Sync tab.
3. Choosethemediafilesyouwanttotransfer.Dragthefilesoralbumsyouwant totransferintothe
right panel.
4. Clickonthe StartSync button.
Theselectedvideos,songsorphotoswill becopieddirectlyintothecorrespondingVideo,Musicor
PicturesfolderoftheARCHOS.Whenfinishedcopyingormovingfiles,makesureyou disconnect
properly. DonotjustunplugtheUSBcable.SeeyourWindowsMedia®Playerhelpinstructionsfor
moreinformation.
3.3.Disconnecting
Once allyourfiletransfersarefinished,closeWindows®Explorerandanyotherprogramthatmay
havereadorwrittentotheARCHOS. Tounmountthedevice fromthecomputer;
Windows®XP:Clickonthe"safelyremove"greenarrow iconinthesystemtray
andselecttheARCHOS.

Windows®7:Clickonthe"safelyremove"iconinthesystemtray
then and selecttheARCHOS.
Mac:DragtheARCHOSharddriveicon onthedesktoptowardthetrash(whichwillchange
toan"unmount"icon) anddropitin.
Linux:Right-clickontheARCHOSUSBdevice icon andselect
"unmount"or"safelyremove."
Youcan nowunplugtheUSBcable.
4.MAIN SETTINGS
UsethesettingstomodifyyourARCHOStofunctionforyour
particularneeds.Youcanscrollthescreenup anddownto
revealsettingsthatyoudon’tinitiallysee.Whenitis
possible,youcanusetheMenu icon toaccess more
optionswithinoneofthesettings.
4.1.Wireless &Networks
WhenyoudonotneedtheWiFiorBluetooth®connections,youcan deactivatetheminordertosave
batterypower.
Airplanemode: ThiscutstheWiFiandBluetooth®connections.Thisistypicallyrequiredwhen
onboardairplanesinordernottointerferewiththeaircraft’ssensitiveinstruments.
Wi-Fi:TaponthislinetoenableordisabletheWiFiconnection.
Wi-Fisettings:AllowsyoutosetupandmanageyourWiFinetworks.See: MakingaWiFiConnection.
Bluetooth:taponthislinetoenableordisabletheBluetooth®connection.

Bluetoothsettings:Allowsyoutosetupyourdevice’sname(thenamethatwillappearonyour
differentBluetooth®devices),makeitdiscoverableorhidden,scanforBluetooth®devicesinrange,
etc. See Pairing below.TheARCHOSiscompatiblewiththeBluetooth®standardsA2DP,DUN, PAN,
OBEX,andAVRCP.
Cell phonetethering:Allowsyoutouseyourcell (mobile) phoneasamodemtoconnecttothe
Internetwhenyouarenotinrangeordonotwant toconnectviaaWiFiaccesspoint.Yourtelephone
subscriptionwillneedtoincludeadataplan.Theremaybecertainextracostsassociatedwiththis.
Totether(connect) yourARCHOStoyourphoneandthusbeabletoconnecttotheInternetdothe
following:
PAIRING
1. Onyourphone(orotherdevice youwant topair),turnonBluetooth® "detectable."
2. OntheARCHOS,selectMenu >Settings>Wireless &Networks>Bluetoothand turniton.
3. StillontheARCHOS, tapon Bluetoothsettings,select Scanfordevices,thenselectyourtelephone
whichwill beshownunder Bluetoothdevices.
4. Giveaconnectioncode,“1234”willbefine.
5. Onyourphone,youwillnowseethattheARCHOSisrequestingtobepaired.Typeinthesame
code“1234”.
YourphoneandARCHOSnowknow eachother.Theyare"paired."
TETHERING(CONNECTINGTOTHEINTERNET)
NowthatyourARCHOSandphonecantalktoeachother,itisjustamatteroftellingtheARCHOS
(onlyonce ofcourse) whatthenameofyourphone’sdataservice iscalled.
1. OntheARCHOS,gotoMenu >Settings>Wireless &Networks>Cell phonetethering and select
Bluetooth,thenselectthedevicethatyouwanttousefortethering(thephoneyoupairedwith
above).
2. Selecttheconnectiontype DUN (Dial-upNetworking-- olderlessusedstandard)or PAN (Personal
AreaNetwork-- newerstandard).
3a.DUN:TypeintheAccessPointName(APN) thatisusedforyourtelecomoperator.Youcan
usuallyfind theAPNnameinthedocumentationwithyourdataplanorontheFAQofyourtelecom’s
website.EachtelecomcompanyhasdifferentAPNsandcanevenhavedifferentAPNsfordifferent
dataplans.Ifyourtelecomoperatorhasnotgivenyouausernameandpassword,thendonotenter
anythingonthefollowingscreen.
3b.PAN:Thismethodneedsnofurthersettings.
4. Now,anytimethatyouwanttoconnecttotheInternet,gointo Menu>Settings>Wireless &
Networks>Cell phonetethering andturnontheoption Tether.Alternatively,youcanturntethering
on/offviathe powercontrolwidget.Youcannow usethewebbrowserorotherapplicationthat
requiresanInternetconnection.
VPNsettings:Foradvancedusers.AllowstheARCHOStoconnecttoaVirtualPrivateNetwork.
4.2.Sound&display
Audiosetting:Setsthesound'soveralllevelofbass,treble,3D,and balance.
Mediavolume:Setsthevolumeformusicand videos.Youcanalsoadjustthesoundbyusingthe
volumebuttonsonthedevice.
Notificationringtone:Setsthesoundtypeforsystemnotifications.

Audibleselection:Enables/disablesthetouch-screenclicksound.
Storage notifications:Enables/disablestheaudiblenotificationwhenitisconnectedtoacomputer
orwhenamemorycardisinserted/removed.
Orientation:Allowsyoutosettheorientationofthescreentoafixedpositionorbasedonthe
physicalorientationofthedevice.
Animation:Enables/disablesthedisplayofanimationswhenopeningand closingapplications.
Brightness:Allowsyoutoadjustthebrightnessofthescreen.Reducingthebrightness will reduce
batteryconsumption.
Screentimeout:Allowsyoutoadjustthedelaybeforethescreenautomaticallyturnsoffandthe
device locksitself.
Toturnthescreenbackon,pressthePowerbuttononce,and pressitagaintounlockthescreen.
4.3.TVout
SwitchtoTV:Switchthedisplayfromthebuilt-inLCDtoaconnectedHDTV.Anoptional mini-HDMI
cable isrequired.ThescreenoftheARCHOSthen actsasatouch-padinordertomovethecursoron
thescreenofyourTV.
4.4.Location&Security
Use wireless networks:Thisscreengivesyouthepossibilitytoallow certainAndroid™applications
todetermineyourcurrent locationviatheWiFiconnection.
Set(change)unlockpattern:Allowstolockyourdevice with apasswordpattern.
Require pattern:Enable/disablepasswordpatternlockingofthedevice.
Use visible pattern:Enables/disablesthepasswordpatterntobevisiblewhenbeingapplied.
Visible passwords:Enables/disablespasswordstobeshownastheyaretyped.
Use securecredentials:Allowapplicationstoaccesssecurecertificatesandothercredentials.
InstallfromSDcard:InstallencryptedcertificatesfromanSDcard.
Setpassword:Setorchangethecredentialstoragepassword.
Clearstorage:Clearcredentialstorage.

yourPC,right-clickonitandselect Sharing.Youcanbrowseallthesharedfoldersbyusingthe Files
applicationonyourARCHOS.Inthefilebrowser,findthegroup External andselect Sharedfolders
(SMB).You'llsee thecomputer's namehere,andthenthesharedfoldersand filesinsideit.Ifyou
havesharedvideoormusicfiles,youcanaccess thesefoldersdirectlyfromthe Video application
(select SharedFolders(SMB) fromthelistwhenyoufirstopenthevideoplayer) orthe Music

CREATINGPLAYLISTS
Aplaylistisalistofaudiotracksthatthemusicplayerwill

toaplaylist,findasongoranalbuminthemusicbrowserandhold
yourfingerdownonittobringup thelistofoptions.Select Addto
playlist,andthenyouhavetheoptionofputtingitintoanalready
establishedplaylistorcreatinganewplaylist.
Whenyoudeleteaplaylist(holdyourfingerdownonthenameof
playlistthenselectdelete),youareonlydeletingthelistandnotthemusicitself.
THEFAVORITESLIST
The"Favorites"iswhereyoukeepthemusicyouplaythemostoften.Toadd a
title,analbum,oranartisttoyourfavoriteslist,justholddownontheitemanda
fewoptionswill appear.Choose Addtofavorites.Theitemwillbemarkedwitha
staricon .Toaccessyourfavoriteslistatanytime,gotothecover-roll
browsingscreenand flickthealbumsleft/right untilyousee themusiccalled

1.Place amusicCDinyourcomputer,andWindows®will askyouwhatactionyouwouldliketo
perform.
2.ChooseRipmusicfromCD,and WindowsMedia®PlayerwillstartrippingtheCD.Thesongs
willbeautomaticallyextractedfromtheCDandencodedintotheMP3orWMAformat,
accordingtowhatyouchoseinWindowsMedia®Player’srippingoptions.Thedefaultformatis
WMA.
