Introduction
The SharpMedia™ Platform is an integrated solution that consists of a Carrier grade 2U server
and SharpMedia™ PCIE-8120 acceleration cards. The SharpMedia platform server is installed
with CentOS 7.x 64-bit Operating System.
SharpMedia™PCIE-8120 acceleration cards are PCI Express based and are designed using the
Octasic OCT2224M multi-core Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) along with Vocallo Media
Gateway firmware (MGW). The DSP array performs the media processing acceleration for host
server, supporting both voice and video conferencing and transcoding applications. The
OCT2224M DSP supports high-density media processing at a fraction of the power of
competing devices. With a nominal power consumption of 4 Watts, the OCT2224M can
transcode hundreds of audio streams or multiple HD video streams.

1.1 Features
The following are the main features of SharpMedia™ Platform:
Configurable for up to four single slot full-length full-height PCI Express cards with x4
interface.
High performance media processing core based on power-efficient DSPs.
Support for 720p and 1080p video conferencing.
Designed to comply with NEBS, GR63-CORE, and GR-1089-CORE.
The SharpMedia Platform and its SharpMedia PCIE-8120 acceleration cards are used for the
following applications:
Session border controllers (adding voice or video transcode)
Media gateways
Media servers/media resource function
Video/content optimization (transcode and transrating)
WebRTC voice applications
Interactive voice and video response systems

Hardware Preparation and Installation
This chapter provides a brief description about how to unpack and inspect SharpMedia 2U
Platform. It also provides environmental, thermal, and power requirements information.
2.1 Unpacking and Inspecting the Server Platform
Shipment Inspection
To inspect the shipment, perform the following steps:
1. Verify that you have received all items of your shipment:
One SharpMedia™ 2U Platform
One printed copy of Quick Start Guide
Any optional items ordered
2. Check your shipment and report any damage or differences to the contact center
at [e-mail].
Damage of Circuits
Electrostatic discharge and incorrect installation and removal of the platform can damage
SharpMedia PCIE-8120 accelerator cards installed in it.
Before touching card or electronic components, make sure that you are working in an ESD-
safe environment.

3. Remove the desiccant bag shipped with the platform and dispose it according to
your country’s legislation.
2.2 Environmental, Thermal, and Power
Requirements
For more information about environmental, thermal, and power requirements of SharpMedia
2U Platform, refer to Dell PowerEdge R730 Owner's Manual.
For more information about environmental, thermal, and power requirements of SharpMedia
PCIE-8120 card, refer to Artesyn’s SharpMedia PCIE-8120 Installation and Use guide.
The platform is thoroughly inspected before shipment. If any damage has occurred during
transportation, contact our Contact Center immediately.
Operating temperatures refer to the temperature of the air circulating around the server
platform and not to the component temperature.
Server fans are set to run at 100% by default to meet maximum environmental conditions.
Card Damage
High humidity and condensation on the card surface causes short circuits.
Do not operate the card outside the specified environmental limits. Make sure that the card
is completely dry and there is no moisture on its surface before applying power.

Software Initialization
This chapter explains the various modes of accessing a SharpMedia 2U server. The SharpMedia
2U server comes with pre-configured settings. You can access the SharpMedia 2U either
through Ethernet mode or through Serial Console mode.
Ethernet - 1G on-board server management port (eno1) labeled as 1 on the server, which is
pre-configured with Static IP address, 192.168.0.100.
Serial Console - Serial Console with the following port settings:
Set Serial Port Address: COM1, Serial
Baud Rate: 115200
Terminal Type: VT100/VT220
Data bits: 8
Stop bits: 1
Parity: None
Flow control: None
If you want to access the server, the default login is root with Artesyn as password.
