AtomoSynth “Mochika X4” Analog synthesizer + step sequencer.
Quick start guide.
asic Operation.
Synthesizer Section:
1. Connect the included power supply to “12V DC center +” input located in the rear panel and
connect power supply to mains.
2. Connect the “A DIO O T” located in the rear panel of the unit to a mixer or amplifier. se
unbalanced ¼" connector (mono plug). Before doing so, lower the volume of your amp or
mixer. Note: the Perceptron output is not designed to be used with headphones, connect it
always to an amp or mixer.
3. Turn the unit on using the “On/off” switcher in the rear panel.
4. Set the “OSC” knob midway (center position), set the “S B” and “Noise” knobs all the way
left (min position).
5. Set the “Wave” switcher to the upper position (saw-tooth wave).
6. Set the “Tune” knob midway (center position).
7. Set the “Filter” switch to the “LP” Low pass position, and set the “C TOFF” knob all the way
right (max position).
8. Set the “Peak”, “OSC_M” and “Fltr_M” knobs all the way left (min position).
9. Set the “A” knob all the way left, And set the “D” “S” “R” knobs midway (center position).
10. Set the “VOL ME” knob midway (center position).
Sequencer section:
11. Push the “STEPS” knob/button once, the display will show “3. Step On/Off”.
12. Push the “1-8” knob/button, the steps 1 to 8 will be selected.
13. Turn the step knobs to the right to activate the desired step (1 to 8), the corresponding step LED
will light. To deactivate a step, turn the corresponding knob to the left, the LED will go dark.
14. Push the “9-16” knob/button, the steps 9 to 16 will be selected.
15. Turn the step knobs to the right to activate the desired step (9 to 16), the corresponding step
LED will light. To deactivate a step turn the corresponding knob to the left, the LED will go
dark.
16. Push the “Play/Stop” knob/button, the MochikaX4 will produce a sequence of basic pure tones.

17. Push the “PITCH” knob/button and turn the desired step knob one detent position and the
display will show the actual pitch assigned to that step. To edit the pitch of that step turn the
knob more than one detent position and the display will show the pitch change.
18. Change the sound parameters turning the other knobs of the synthesizer section.
19. To edit the step repetitions, push the “REPEAT” knob/button then turn the step knob (of the
desired step 1-8 or 9-16) one detent position, the display will show the actual step number of
repetitions. To edit it, turn the knob more than one detent position, the display will show the
repetitions change for that step.
20. To edit the gate time of each step, push the “GATE” knob/button, then turn the step knob (of
the desired step 1-8 or 9-16) one detent position, the display will show the actual gate time of
that step (1 to 100, TIE, SLIDE). To edit it, turn the knob more than one detent position, the
display will show the change in gate time for that step.
Sequencer Settings change.
1. Tempo. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “1” one detent position,
the display will show the actual Tempo in BPM, to edit the Tempo, turn the knob “1” more than
one detent position, the display will show the tempo change in BPM.
2. Gate Offset. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “2” one detent
position, the display will show the Gate offset, it affects all the steps of the pattern, to edit the
gate offset, turn the knob “2” more than one detent position, the display will show the gate
offset change.
3. First Step. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “3” one detent
position, the display will show the First step of the pattern, to edit it turn the knob “3” more
than one detent position, the display will show the change (note: if the first step is a bigger
number than the last step, the sequence will be played in reverse)
4. Last Step. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “4” one detent
position, the display will show the Last step of the pattern, to edit it turn the knob “4” more than
one detent position, the display will show the change.
5. Sync. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “5” one detent position, the
display will show the actual Sync source (it can be set to internal clock, external clock or midi
clock) To edit it, turn the knob “5” more than one detent position, the display will show the
change, then push the button “7 / OK” to confirm. To cancel, just turn any other step knob.
6. Save. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “6” one detent position, the
display will show the actual slot number, in which the actual pattern will be saved. To change
the slot number to save the actual pattern, turn the knob “6” more than one detent position, the
display will show the change in the slot number, then push the button “7 / OK” to confirm. To
cancel, just turn any other step knob.

7. Pattern . Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “7” one detent position,
the display will show the number of the actual active pattern. To change the active pattern, turn
the knob “7” more than one detent position, the display will show the change in the pattern
number, then push the button “7 / OK” to confirm. To cancel, just turn any other step knob.
8. Mode . Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once. Turn the step knob “8” one detent position,
the display will show the actual playing mode. To change the mode, turn the knob “8” more
than one detent position, the display will show the change in the mode, then push the button “7 /
OK” to confirm. To cancel, just turn any other step knob.
The MochikaX4 features 8 different playing modes:
•Sequence. Normal sequence (if the first step is set to a bigger number than the last step, the
sequence will play backwards).
•Alternate. Ping pong style (the first and last step are not played twice).
•Random. Plays in random order between first and last step. (in this mode, step repetitions
are ignored)
•Drunk. 50% probability of playing the next step, 25% of playing the same step and 25% of
playing the previous step. (in this mode, step repetitions are ignored)
•Drone. Plays the first step repeatedly, to get a continuous note, set a large gate time.
•StpTrigger. Gate and Pitch become separated, it plays the pitch of the next step, when there
is an active step only. (in this mode, step repetitions are ignored)
•One Shot. Play the sequence once.
•MidiCtrl1...16 . In this mode the sinthesizer is controlled by an external midi device
connected to the midi input, the internal sequencer is disabled.
Midi operation.
1. Push the “SETTINGS” knob/button once, the display will show “7. Settings”.
2. Turn the step knob “8” until the display shows “Mode: MidiCtrl 1 … 16” (the number indicates
the midi channel), select the desired midi channel, to confirm push the button “7 / OK”
3. Connect a midi controller to the “MIDI In” connector located in the rear panel and set your
controller to the same midi channel.
4. Note: when in MidiCtrl mode, the sequencer is disabled, to enable the sequencer select a
different playing mode than MidiCtrl.

Reset memory.
1. Turn off the unit using the switcher located in the rear panel.
2. Push and hold the knobs/buttons “1” and “4”
3. Turn the unit, the LEDs 1 and 4 will light, release the buttons.
4. The reset operation will take several seconds, do not turn off the unit! After it is completed the
unit will start normally.
Note: all data stored will be erased and can not be recovered.
