1POWER ON/OFF BUTTON
Pressthis buttonto turnthe uniton oroff. Ifthe unit isoff andthe
ignition switch is "on", the time of day will be displayed. Also,
when the ignition switch is on, the unit will turn on automatically
when a disc is inserted, or when any panel button is pressed.

2AUDIO ADJUST VOLUME (VOL) CONTROL
To increase the volume level, press the VOL button. The
volume will increase and the level will be shown on the display
panelfrom a minimum ofVOL 00 to a maximumof VOL100. To
increase the volume quickly, keep the button pressed. To de-
crease the volume level, press the VOL button. Keep the
buttonpressed to decreasethe volume quickly. The display will
automaticallyreturn to thenormal indication 5 seconds afterthe
last volume adjustment or when another function is activated.
These buttons are also used in conjunction with the AUDIO SE-
LECT (SEL) button 3to adjust the bass, treble, balance, and
fader levels as described in 4, 5, 6and 7.

3AUDIO SELECT (SEL) BUTTON
This button is used to select the audio function (volume, bass,
treble, balance, or fade) to be adjusted using the Volume/Level
Control 2. Pressing the SEL button will select bass (BAS on
thedisplay), treble(TRB), balance(BAL), fader(FAD) orvolume
(VOL). Thedisplay willautomatically returnto the normalindica-
tion5 secondsafter thelast adjustmentor whenanother function
isactivated.
TheSELbutton alsoenablesthebutton beeptonefunction. There
are three beep tone states; BEEP OFF, BEEP 2ND and BEEP
ALL. When the radio is turned on the beep tone defaults to the
beepoffstate. Whentheradio is onandthe SELbuttonispressed

ADJUST Volume buttons are used to select the desired beep
tone function. BEEP OFF indicates no beep tones. BEEP 2ND
indicates a tone will sound when a secondary function button is
pressed,such as BAND/LOUD,and BEEP ALLindicates a tone
will sound whenever a button is pressed.

4BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the Bass mode by pressing
the SEL button 3so that the BAS indication appears on the
display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Bass mode,
press the AUDIOADJUST VOL or button 2to adjustthe
bass response as desired. The bass level will be shown on the
displaypanel fromaminimum of--10 to a maximum of 10 (00 is
flat response).The displaywill automaticallyreturn tothe normal
indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another
functionis activated.

5TREBLE CONTROL
Toadjustthe treblelevel, firstselect theTreblemodeby pressing
the SEL button 3so that the TRB indication appears on the
display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Treble mode,
pressthe AUDIO ADJUSTVOL or button 2to adjust the
trebleresponse asdesired. The treblelevel willbe shownon the
display panel from a minimum of --10 to a maximum of 10 (00 is

6LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance, first select the Balance
mode by pressing the SEL button 3so that the BAL indication
appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the
Balance mode, press the AUDIO ADJUSTVOL or button
2to adjust the balance as desired. The balance position will be
shown on the display panel from BAL10L (full left) through BAL
10R (fullright). When thevolume levelbetween the left and right
speakers is equal, BAL L=R will be shown on the display panel.
The display will automatically return to the normal indication 5
seconds after the last adjustment or when another function is
activated.

7FRONT/REARFADERCONTROL
To adjust the front-rear speaker balance, first select the Fader
mode by pressing the SELbutton 3so that the FAD indication
appears on the display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the
Fadermode, pressthe AUDIOADJUST VOL or button 2
to adjust the front-rear speaker balance as desired. The fader
position will be shown on the display panel from FAD 10R (full
rear) through FAD 10F (full front). When the level between the
front and rear speakers is equal, FAD F=R will be shown on the
displaypanel. The displaywill automatically return to thenormal
indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another
functionis activated.

8LOUDNESS CONTOUR (LOUD)
When listening to music at low volume levels, this feature will
boost the bass and treble ranges to compensate for the charac-
teristics of human hearing. Press and hold the BAND/LOUD
button for 2 seconds to activate this feature and the indication
LOUD ON willappear onthe displaypanel for5 seconds. Press-
ingthebuttonagainfor2secondswilldeactivatethefeature(LOUD
OFF indication will appear on the display panel for 5 seconds).

9AUDIO MUTE (MUTE)
This button is used to mute the volume from the system. By
pressing the button, a flashing MUTE indication will appear on
the display panel and the volume will be muted. Pressing the
MUTE button again, or any other panel button, will return the
volume level to the setting in use before the Mute function was
activated.

bl AM/FM BAND SELECTOR (BAND)
Duringradiooperation,eachmomentarypressof the BAND/LOUD
button will change the radio band. The indication AM, F1, F2, or
F3 will appear on the display panel according to your selection.

bm MANUAL/AUTOMATIC UP/DOWN TUNING (+ / -)
The radio tuning function is normally in automatic tuning mode.
The radio will tune to the next available station and stop at that
frequencywhen either buttonis pressed momentarily.
To tune rapidly in an upward or downward direction, press and
holdeither buttonfor atleast 2 seconds. MANUAL will appearon
the display and the radio will tune through the entire band in an
up or down direction while the button is pressed. When the de-
sired radio frequency is reached, release the button; 5 seconds
later, AUTO will appear momentarily on the display.

bn AUTO-STORETUNING (AS) PRE-SET SCANTUNING(PS)
During radio operation, press this button momentarily to scan
the 6 stations pre-set into the memories of each FM band or the
AMband. The unitwill stop ateach preset stationfor 5 seconds
before continuing to the next pre-set station. During this time,
the preset station number (1-6) in the band will flash. Press the
button again momentarily to stop Pre-Set Scan operation and
remainon theselected frequency. The presetstation number(1-
6) stops flashing.
Pressing the button for longer than 2 seconds will activate the
Auto-StoreTuning featurewhich will automaticallyscan eachFM
band(or the AMband, ifin use) andenter upto 6 strongstations
into the 6 preset memories of each band. After entering the
stations into the memories, the unit will automatically stop at
each station for 5 seconds so each can be heard. If you have
already set the pre-set memories to your favorite stations, acti-
vatingthe Auto-Store featurewill erase thosestations and enter
thenew strong stations.This feature ismost useful when travel-
ling in a new area where you are not familiar with the local sta-
tions. Momentarily press the button again to stop Auto-Store
operation and remain at the current station.

bo STATION PRE-SET MEMORIES
To set any of the 6 pre-set memories in each band, use the fol-
lowingprocedure:
1. Turn the radio on and select the desired band.
2. Select the first station to be pre-set using the Manual/Auto
maticTuning Controls bm.
3. Press the pre-set button (1-6) to be set and continue to
hold it in. After approximately 2 seconds the preset num-
ber will appear on the display panel, indicating that the

station is now set into that preset memory position. The
station can now be recalled at any time by pressing that
button.
4. Repeatthe aboveprocedure forthe remainingpre-sets on
that band and for the other 3 bands on the unit.

bp LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL FUNCTIONS
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel displays the frequency,
time, and all activated functions, including five bar graphs
which provide a visual representationofthe audio signal.
NOTE: Itisacharacteristic ofLCDpanelsthat, if subjected tocold
temperatures for an extendedperiodoftime,theymaytake
longer to illuminate than under normal conditions. In addi-
tion, the visibility of the numbers on the LCD may slightly
decrease. TheLCDreadoutwillreturn to normal when the
temperatureincreases to anormal range.

bq DISC SLOT
With the label surface facing up, gently insert the disc into the
slot until the soft-loading mechanism engages and disc play
begins. A dual disc indication appears, with the upper disc
() indicating a disc is installed; the lower disc indication ( )
illuminates and becomes animated, the S--CDP symbol lights,
andthe tracknumber andelapsedtime willappear onthe display
panel.
CAUTION: This unit is designed for play of standard 5"(12cm)
CompactDiscsONLY. Donot attemptto use 3"(8cm)
CD-Singles in this unit, either with or without an adap-
tor,asdamagetotheplayerand/ordisccanoccur. Such
damage will not be covered by the Warranty onthis
product.

br TRACK SELECT
These buttons are used to quickly select the beginning of a par-
ticulartrack. Witheachmomentarytap of the Forward Track Select
button (+ ), the next higher track number will be selected. Simi-
larly, with each momentarytap of the Backward Track Select but-
ton ( - ), the next lower track number will be selected.

bs CUE/REVIEW FUNCTIONS
High-speedaudiblesearch toanysection ofthedisc can bemade
bythe Cue andReview functions. Press and hold the Cue but-
ton (+) to advance rapidly inthe forward direction or the Re-
view button ( -) to advance rapidly in the backward direction.
During eitherfunction,the elapsedtimewithineach trackwillauto-
matically be shown on the display panel.

bt PAUSE (PAU) BUTTON
Pressing this button during CD play will pause disc operation;
S--PAUSE will be displayed and disc play will stop. Press the
button again and disc play will resume from the point at which it
waspaused.

bu REPEAT PLAYSELECTOR (RPT)
During disc play, press this button to repeat the play of the
selected track (S--RPT will appear on the display panel). Play
of the track will continue to repeat until the button is pressed
again and the S--RPT indication disappears from the display
panel. Repeat Play mode will also be canceled by activating the
Shuffle Play cl or Track Scan cm functions.

cl SHUFFLE PLAY SELECTOR (SHF)
During disc play, press this button to play the tracks on the disc
ina randomor shuffledorder (S--SHF) willappear onthe display
panel). InShuffle Playmode, pressingthe ForwardTrack Select
(+) or the Backward Track Select ( -) will also select tracks
ina random orderinstead of thenormal progression. Additional
presses will select tracks in random order. The Shuffle Play
mode can be cancelled by pressing the button again (S--SHF)
indication will disappear from the display panel) or by activating
the Repeat Play bu or Track Scan cm functions.

cm TRACK SCAN (SCN)
During disc play, press this button to play the first 10 seconds of
eachtrack onthe disc (S--SCN will appear on the displaypanel).
Whena desired trackis reached,press the Scan button againto
cancel the function and play of the selected track will continue.
TrackScan modewill also be cancelled byactivating theRepeat
Play bu or Shuffle Play cl functions.

cn DISC EJECT ( )
Disc play is stopped, the disc is ejected and the unit will change
to radio operation by pressing this button.
If the disc is not removed from the disc slot within 15 seconds of
being ejected, it will automatically be re-loaded into the unit to
preventit frombeing accidentallydamaged. Play ofthe disc can
be resumed by using the MODE button cs to choose the CD
playerfunction.

co TIME/FREQUENCY SELECTOR (T/F)
This unit can display the clock time, radio frequency, CD player,
CD Changer or auxiliary (AUX) input functions on the display
panel.Pressing theTime/Frequency Selectorbutton willchange
the display to show the time. The time display will automatically
returnto theradio frequency, CDplayer,CDChanger orauxiliary
input function indication after 5 seconds.

cp FM MONO/STEREO SELECTOR (MONO)
DuringFM radiooperation, thisbutton isused to selectmonaural
orstereo receptionof thebroadcast signal. Undernormal recep-
tion conditions, the unit should be left in the stereo mode, as
indicated by ST on the display panel when listening to an FM
stereo signal. If the stereo signal is too weak for comfortable
listening, press the button to switch to monaural reception (the
ST indication will disappear from the display panel, MONO will
appearfor 5seconds, andMON willremain displayed).Toreturn
to the stereo reception mode, press the button again;
STEREOwill appear for5 seconds,the ST indicationreturns and
theMON indication disappears.

cq EQUALIZER SELECTOR (P.EQ)
TheP.EQ buttonapplies preset soundeffectsto the unit’s audio
output signal. The P.EQ button, when pressed, will activate one
of the following operating modes: CLASSICS, POP M, JAZZ,
FLAT,or DSP OFF. If the bass and treble levels are changed
when the P.EQ function is active, as displayed on the panel, the
equalizerfunctionautomaticallyrevertstothe FLATsetting. When
the equalizer function is not active, the unit returns to the user
set bass and treble levels. The FLAT selection indicates no
equalizerenhancement of theprogram, while DSP OFF inhibits
selectionof equalizer mode enhancement.

cr LOCAL/DISTANT (LOC) SELECTOR
Thisfeature is usedto selectthe strength of the signalsat which
the radio will stop during Automatic Seek Tuning. Pressing and
holding this button will select the Local setting (LOCAL will ap-
pearon the display panel) andonly strong(local) stationswill be
received. Pressing the button again will select the normal Dis-
tant setting (Dx will appear on the display panel). The radio will
now stop at a wider range of signals, including weaker (more
distant) stations.

csMODE SELECTOR (MODE)
This button is used to select the radio, external (AUX) audio in-
put,ortheplayback modefortheCDplayer or remoteCDchanger
(ifinstalled). Eachpress ofthe buttonwill selecta differentmode
(as indicated on the display panel.
DuringCD player operation,this button maybe usedto change
to radioor remoteCDchanger mode (CDC) withoutejectingthe
disc (the indication will remain on the display panel to show
that a disc is still loaded in the unit). Press the button again to
return to integral CD player mode and resume play of the disc
from the point at which it was stopped.

These buttons are used to increase or decrease selection of a
desired disc for play in the remote CD changer.To advance to a
higher number disc, press the D.UP button ct. To return to a

dl FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON
Thisbuttonisusedtoreleasethemechanismthatholdsthefront
panelto thechassis. Todetach thefront panel, pressthe button
so that the left side of the panel is released. Grasp the released
side and pull it off of the chassis.
Tore-attachthepanel,positiontherightsideofthepanelinplace
firstandthenpresstheleftsideofthepanelinuntilthemechanism
locks it into place.

NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1. Make sure the front panel is right-side-up when attaching it
to the chassis as it cannot be attached when up-side down.
2. Do not press very hard on the front panel when attaching it to
the chassis. No more than light to moderate pressure should
beneeded.
3. When attaching the front panel, make sure the right side is
correctly engaged before pressing the left side to lock it into
position.
4. When taking the front panel with you, please use the supplied
carryingcase to protectthe panelfromdirt anddamage. Make
sure there is no dust or dirt on the electrical terminals on the
back of the panel as this could cause intermittent operation
orother malfunctions.

beremoved toaccess thebutton). TheRESET circuitryis provided to
protectthemicroprocessorcircuitryandshouldonlybeactivatedunder
the following circumstances as it will erase the time and pre-set
memories:
1. Upon initial installation after all wiring is completed.
2. After the position of the frequency step switch on the bottom
of the chassis has been changed.
3. If there is a malfunction of any of the switches on the unit,
pressing the RESET button may clear the system and return
tonormaloperation.

Adjustment of the audio functions (volume, tone, balance, and
fader) for the CD changer operate in the same manner as they
do for radio play. The following controls will operate the CD
changer when it is installed and connected to this radio. Refer
to the owner’s manual included with the CD changer for instruc-
tions on the installation and correct loading and use of the CD
magazine.

When the Repeat button is pressed, the RPT indication will
appear on the display panel and play of the selected track will
be continually repeated until the Track Repeat mode is canceled
bypressingtheRepeatbuttonagain or byactivatingtheScandt or
Shuffle Play elfunctions.
When the Repeat button is pressed and held, the DRT indi-
cation will appear on the display panel and play of the selected
disc will be continually repeated until the Disc Repeat mode is
canceled by pressing the Repeat button again or by activating
the Scan dt or Shuffle Play el functions.

el DISC/TRACK SHUFFLE PLAY (SHF)
Whenthe SHF buttonis pressed, theSHF indication will appear
onthe displaypanel and the tracks onthe discwill beplayed ina
random, shuffled order. The Track Select button dr will also se-
lect tracks in the shuffled order instead of the normal progres-
sion. The Random Track mode can be canceled by pressing
the Shuffle button again or by activating the Scan dt or Repeat
Play du functions.
When the SHF button is pressed and held, the DSF indication
willappear on thedisplay panelandthe discsinthe magazinewill
be played in a random, shuffled order, as well as the tracks on
each disc. After playing a track selected at random from a disc in
the magazine, the unit will select another disc at random and
play a randomly selected track on it. This will continue until
theRandom Discmode iscanceled bypressing the Shuffle but-
ton again or by activating the Scan dt or RepeatPlaydu func-
tions.

4. Five seconds after the last hour or minute adjustment is made, the time will be set in the unit and normal operation can resume.

If a problem should develop while operating the CD player, an error code (ER-1, ER-2, ER-3, etc.) may appear on the display panel.
This can indicate a number of problems with the unit, including a mechanical error or an error in the microprocessor control of the
player. Ifan errorcode shouldappear,try ejectingand re-loading the disc intothe player. Whilethedisc isout ofthe unit,make sure
itis clean, undamaged, and loadedcorrectly (labelsurface up). You may also tryactivating theRESETbutton dnon the unit, butthis
will also erase the time and pre-set memories.
Ifthe suggestedmeasures donot solve the problem, contact an approvedwarranty stationnear youfor furtherassistance.

Ifa problemshould developwhile operatingthe CDchanger,the followingerror codesmay appearon thedisplay panel.
ER-1: Indicatesthat thereis no magazine loaded inthe CDchanger.
ER-2: Indicatesa problemwith themagazine ejectfunction.
ER-3: Indicatesan errorin thedisc loadingfunction.
ER-4:Indicates an error in the disc un-loadingfunction.
ER-5: Indicatesan errorin themagazine position.
ER-6: Indicatesan errorin the laser pick-up position.
ER-7: Indicates an error in the laser focus on the disc.
In any of the above situations, try ejecting the CD magazine from the changer and make sure the discs are clean, undamaged, and
loaded correctly (refer to the Owner’s Manual of the CD changer). Re-load the magazine and check for proper operation. You may
also try activating the RESET button dn on the unit, but this will also erase the time and pre-set memories.
If the suggested measures do not solve the problem, contact an approved warranty station near you for further assistance.

!Do not attempt to open the unit chassis. There are no user
serviceable parts or adjustments inside.
!Whenthevehiclewarmsupduringcoldweatherorunderdamp
conditions, moisture may condense on the lens of the disc
player. Should this occur, the player will not operate properly
until the moisture has evaporated.
!TheunitisdesignedwithavibrationdampeningCDmechanismand
ElectronicSkipProtection(ESP) tominimizeinterruptionofdisc
playduetonormalvibrationinamovingvehicle.
HANDLING COMPACT DISCS
Dirt, dust, scratches, and warpage can cause skips in the
playback and deterioration of sound quality. Please follow these
guidelines to take care of your compact discs:
!Use only compact discs with the mark .
!Fingerprints, dust, and dirt should be carefully wiped off the
disc’s playing surface (shiny side) with a soft cloth. Wipe in a
straight motion from the inside to the outside of the disc.
!Neverusechemicalssuchasrecordsprays,householdcleaners
or thinner to clean compact discs. Such chemicals can
irreparably damage the disc’s surface.
!Discs should be kept in their storage cases when not in use.
!Do not expose discs to direct sunlight, high temperatures or
high humidity for extended periods.
!Donotstickpaper,tape,orlabelsonthediscsurfacesnorwrite
on them with any type of marker.
CAREANDMAINTENANCE
Theradiosectionofyournewsoundsystemdoesnotrequireany
maintenance. We recommend you keep this manual for
referenceonthe many features found in this unit as well as how
to set the clock.
The compact disc player section also requires no routine
maintenance, but proper understanding of its use and handling
will help you obtain maximum enjoyment of its capabilities. The
following points should be observed:
!When cleaning the interior of the vehicle, do not get water or
cleaning fluids on the unit.
!The CD player is a precision instrument and will not operate
properlyinextremehotorcold. Incaseofsuchconditions,wait
until the interior temperature of the vehicle reaches a normal
temperature before using the player.
!If the temperature inside the player gets too hot, a protective
circuitwillautomaticallystopplayofthedisc. Inthiscase,allow
the unit to cool off before operating the player again.
!Neverinsertanythingotherthana5"(12cm)compactdiscinto
the player as the mechanism can be damaged by foreign
objects.
!Do not attempt to use 3" (8 cm) CD-Single discs in this unit,
eitherwithorwithoutanadaptor,asdamagetotheplayerand/
or disc may occur. Such damage will not be covered by the
Warranty on this product.
!When not using the disc player, always remove the compact
disc.Do notleave anejected discsitting inthe discslot asthis
can expose it to sunlight and other causes of damage.

NOTES ON DISCS
Attempting to use non-standard shape discs (e.g.; square, star, heart) may damage the unit. Be sure to use round-shape CDs only
in this unit.
NOTES ONCD-Rs(RecordableCDs)/CD-RWs(RewriteableCDs):
1. Be sure to use discs with the following marks only for play in this unit: .
2. The unit cannotplay a CD-R or CD-RWthat is notfinalized. (Please refer tothe manual ofyour CD-R/CD-RW software
for moreinformationonthe finalization process.)
3. Dependingontherecordingstatus,conditionsofthedisc and theequipmentusedfortherecording,someCD-Rs/CD-RWs
may not be played on this unit.
RELIABLEPLAYBACK:
Toensuremorereliableplayback,pleasenotethefollowing recommendations:
1. Use CD-RWs with speed 1x to 4x.
2. Use CD-Rs with speed 1x to 8x, and write with speed 1x to 2x.
3. Do not play a CD-RW which has been written on more than 5 times.
NOTESON MULTI-SESSIONDISCS:
If the first track of the first session is audio CD data, then the unit will play only the audio CD data.
ELECTRONIC SKIP PROTECTION (ESP)
TheCDPlayer inthisunitis equippedwithElectronicSkip Protection(ESP)circuits.This capabilityenablesthe CD Playertoproject
discplayapproximately10secondsaheadofitscurrentplayposition.Asaresult,ifasevereroadbumpisencounteredduringPlayer
operation, play of the current track will not be interrupted, or result in a skip.
