OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1ON-OFF POWER BUTTON (PWR)
VOLUME LEVEL MEMORY
Press this button momentarily to turn the unit on or off. The unit
will also turn on automatically when a compact disc is inserted if
the ignition switch is “on”.
This button is also used to set the memory for the volume level
which will be recalled when the unit is turned on. To set the
volumememory,turntheunitonandadjustthevolumeusingthe
Volume Control 2to the level which you wish to be recalled
when the unit is turned on. Then, press the On-Off button and
holdit forapproximately 2seconds. The unitwill turnoff andthe
selected volume level is now set in the memory. If the unit is
turned off with the volume higher than the memory setting, the
unit will return to the memory setting when turned back on. If,
however, the unit is turned off with the volume lower than the
memory setting, the unit will return to the lower setting when
turned back on.
2VOLUME LEVEL CONTROL
Toincrease thevolume level,press the“VOL +”sideof thebutton.
Thevolume willincreaseandthelevelwillbe shownonthe display
panel from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 80. To increase the
volumequickly,keep thebuttonpressed. Todecrease thevolume
level,pressthe“VOL-”sideofthebutton. Keepthebuttonpressed
to decrease the volume quickly. The display will automatically
return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last volume
adjustment or when another function is activated. These buttons
are also used in conjunction with the Select button 3to adjust the
bass, treble, balance, and fader levels as described in 4, 5, 6
and 7.

3SELECT BUTTON (SEL)
DISPLAYCALL
DISPLAY PRIORITY SELECTOR
IGNITION-OFF CLOCK CALL
This button is used to select the audio function (volume, bass,
treble, balance, or fade) to be adjusted using the Level Control
2, as well as the indication (time, frequency, or CD) shown on
the display panel.
During radio operation, a momentary press of the button will
change the display from frequency to clock time. Another press
ofthebuttonwillchangetostationpre-setnumber(iftheselected
frequency is one of the 6 pre-set stations on the band in use).
After5seconds,thedisplaywillautomaticallyreturntofrequency
if set to frequency/CD display priority. If the unit has been set to
timedisplaypriority,momentarypressesofthebuttonwillchange
the display from time to frequency/CD track number and then
pre-setnumber/CD elapsedtime. After 5seconds,it willchange
back to time display.
During CD operation, a momentary press of the button will
change the display from track number to clock time. Another
press of the button will change to CD elapsed time. After 5
seconds, the display will automatically return to track number if
set to CD track display priority. If the unit has been set to time
displaypriority, momentarypressesof thebutton willchangethe
display to CD track number and then CD elapsed time. After 5
seconds, it will change back to time display. If the unit has been
setto elapsedtimepriority,momentarypresses ofthebuttonwill
change the display to clock time and then CD track number.
Additional momentary presses of the button will set the unit for
bass adjustment (level number above “BASS” will flash on
display panel), treble (level number above “TREBLE” will flash),
balance (“bAL” on display), fader (“FAd”) or volume (level
number). The display will automatically return to the normal
indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment is made or when
another function is activated.
This unit can be set so that either the clock time or radio
frequency/CDfunction willnormallyappear onthedisplay panel.
Use the following procedure to set the display priority:
CLOCK TIME PRIORITY: With radio frequency on the display
panel, press and hold the Select button for approximately 2
seconds until clock time is shown. The display will now
automatically return to time display 5 seconds after any other
radio, CD or audio function display.
NOTE: Release the button as soon as the display changes from
frequency to time (approximately 2 seconds). Holding
the button in for too long will put the unit into time setting
mode(flashingtimedisplay). Seesectionon“Settingthe
Clock”.
FREQUENCY/CD TRACK PRIORITY: With clock time showing
on the display panel, press and hold the Select button for
approximately 2 seconds until the frequency display is shown.
ThedisplaywillnowautomaticallyreturntoradiofrequencyorCD
track 5 seconds after any other function is activated.
CD ELAPSED TIME PRIORITY: During CD play mode, press
and hold the Select button for approximately 2 seconds until the
elapsedtimedisplayisshown. Thedisplaywillnowautomatically
return to elapsed time 5 seconds after any other function is
activated.

To check the time with the vehicle ignition switch in the “off”
position, momentarily press the Select button. The display will
illuminateandshowthetimeandthenautomaticallyshutoffafter
5 seconds.
4BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the Bass mode by pressing
the Select button 3so that the level number above the “BASS”
indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Bass
mode, press the +or – side of the Level Control 2to adjust the
bass response as desired. The bass level will be shown on the
display panel from a minimum of -7 to a maximum of 7 (0 is flat
response). The display will automatically return to the normal
indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment or when another
function is activated.
5TREBLE CONTROL
Toadjustthetreblelevel,firstselecttheTreblemodebypressing
the Select button 3so that the level number above the
“TREBLE” indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing
the Treble mode, press the + or – side of the Level Control 2to
adjust the treble response as desired. The treble level will be
shown on the display panel from a minimum of -7 to a maximum
of 7 (0 is flat response). The display will automatically return to
thenormalindication5secondsafterthelastadjustmentorwhen
another function is activated.
6LEFT/RIGHT BALANCE CONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance, first select the Balance
modebypressingtheSelectbutton3sothatthe“bAL”indication
appears on the display panel. The display will then change to
indicate the balance control position. Within 5 seconds of
choosing the Balance mode, press the – side of the Level
Control 2to adjust the stereo balance to the left channel
speakersorthe+sideofthebuttontoadjustittotherightchannel
speakers. When the volume level between the right and left
channels is equal, “0-0” will be shown on the display panel.
Adjusting the balance toward the right will increase the number
on the right side of the display to a maximum of “0-9” (full right).
Adjustingthe balancetowardthe leftwillincrease thenumberon
the left side of the display to a maximum of “9-0” (full left). The
displaywillautomatically returnto thenormal indication 5seconds
after the last balance adjustment or when another function is
activated.
7FRONT/REAR FADER CONTROL
To adjust the front-rear speaker balance, first select the Fader
mode by pressing the Select button 3so that the “FAd”
indication appears on the display panel. The display will then
changetoindicatethefadercontrolposition. Within5secondsof
choosing the Fader mode, press the +or the – side of the Level
Control 2to adjust the front-rear speaker levels as desired.
When the level of the front and rear speakers is equal, “0-0” will
be shown on the display panel. Adjusting the fader toward the
front speakers will increase the number on the left side of the
display to a maximum of “9-0” (full front). Adjusting the fader
toward the rear speakers will increase the number on the right
side of the display to a maximum of “0-9” (full rear). The display
will automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after
the last fader adjustment or when another function is activated.

9MANUAL UP/DOWN TUNING (TUN+ / TUN–)
AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING
Each time the +side of the button is tapped, the radio will tune one
frequency step higher. Similarly, each tap of the –side of the
buttonwilltuneone frequencysteplower. To manuallytuneina
station, tap the button of the appropriate direction until the
desired frequencyis reached.
Pressingeithersideofthebuttonforlongerthan0.5secondsand
thenreleasingwillactivatetheAutomaticSeekTuningfunctionin
the selected direction. The radio will seek the next available
station and stop at that frequency. The Seek function can be
stopped by pressing the button again or activating any other
tuning function.
Pressingeitherside ofthebutton forlongerthan0.5 secondswill
causetheradiotocontinuetuningrapidlyintheselecteddirection
until the button is released at which point it will seek to the next
availablestation.
bl STATION PRE-SET MEMORIES
To set any of the 6 pre-set memories in each band, use the
followingprocedure:
1. Turn the radio on and select the desired band.
2. Selectthefirststationtobepre-setusingtheManualUp/Down
or Automatic Seek Tuning Controls 9.
3. Press the pre-set button to be set and continue to hold it in.
After approximately 2 seconds, the display will flash and the
volumewillbemomentarilymutedindicatingthatthestationis
now set into that pre-set memory position. The station can
now be recalled at any time by pressing that button.
4. Repeat the above procedure for the remaining 5 pre-sets on
that band and for the other 3 bands on the unit.

8AM/FM BAND SELECTOR
AUTO-STORE TUNING (AS)
SCAN TUNING (SCAN)
RADIO/CD MODE SELECTOR (MODE)
During radio operation, each momentary press of this button will
change the radio band. The indication “AM”, “FMI”, “FMII” will
appear on the display panel according to your selection.
Pressing and holding the button for 0.5 seconds will activate the
Scan Tuning function which will scan the stations on the band in
use. The unit will stop at each station for 10 seconds before
continuingto thenext station(thefrequency onthe displaypanel
will flash during Scan operation). Press the button again
momentarily to stop Scan operation and remain on the selected
frequency.
Pressing and holding the button for longer than 4 seconds will
activate the Auto-Store Tuning function which will automatically
scanthe AMor FMband inuse andenter strongstations intothe
pre-set memory positions for that band. If you have already set
the pre-set memories on the AM or FM band to your favorite
stations, activating the Auto-Store feature will erase those
stations and enter new ones. This feature is most useful when
traveling in a new area where you are not familiar with the local
stations.
Duringdiscplay,pressingthisbuttonwillstopplayofthediscand
switch to radio operation without ejecting the disc. During this
time, the DISC IN indication will remain on the display panel to
show that a disc is still loaded in the unit. Pressing the button
additional times will change the radio band as well as return to
disc play from the point at which it was stopped.

bp CUE/REVIEW FUNCTIONS ( + / – )
High-speed audible search to any section of the disc can be
madeby theCue andReviewfunctions. Press andhold theCue
sideofthebutton(+)toadvancerapidlyintheforwarddirectionor
theReviewsideofthebutton(–)toadvancerapidlyinthebackward
direction. During either function, the elapsed time within each
track will automatically be shown on the display panel.
bq PAUSE/PLAY SELECTOR ( )
During disc play, press this button to temporarily stop play of the
disc (the elapsed time indication on the display panel will flash).
Press the button again to resume play of the disc from the point
at which it was stopped. Pause mode will also be canceled by
activating any other disc function.
br REPEAT PLAY SELECTOR (RPT)
During disc play, press this button to repeat the play of the
selected track (“RPT” will appear on the display panel). Play of
the track will continue to repeat until the button is pressed again
and the “RPT” indication disappears from the display panel.
RepeatPlaymodewillalsobecanceledbyactivatingShufflePlay
bs or Track Scan bt functions.
bs SHUFFLE PLAY SELECTOR (SHF)
Duringdiscplay,pressthisbuttontoplaythetracksonthediscin
arandomshuffledorder(“SHF”willappearonthedisplaypanel).
InShufflePlaymode,theForwardTrackSelect(+)willalsoselect
tracks in the random order instead of the normal progression.
Backward Track Select (–) will only go back to the beginning of
the track in play. The Shuffle Play mode can be canceled by
bm LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel displays the frequency,
time, and activated functions.
NOTE: It is a characteristic of LCD panels that, if subjected to
cold temperatures for an extended period of time, they
may take longer to illuminate than under normal
conditions. Inaddition,thevisibilityofthenumbersonthe
LCDmayslightlydecrease. TheLCDread-outwillreturn
to normal when the temperature increases to a normal
range.
bn DISC SLOT
With the label surface facing up, fully insert the disc into the slot
until the mechanism engages (“LOAd” will appear on the display
panel) and disc play begins. The DISC IN indication and track
number will appear on the display panel.
NOTE: This unit is designed for play of standard 5" (12cm)
Compact Discs ONLY. Do not attempt to use 3" (8cm)
CD-Singlesin thisunit,eitherwith orwithoutan adaptor,
as damage to the player and/or disc can occur. Such
damage will not be covered by the Warranty on this
product.
bo TRACK SELECT ( TRK + / TRK – )
This button is used to quickly select the beginning of a particular
track. With each momentary tap of the Forward Track Select
side of the button ( +), the next higher track number will be
selected as shown on the display panel. Similarly, with each
momentary tap of the Backward Track Select side of the button
( –), the next lower track number will be selected. -5-

pressing the button again (“SHF” indication will disappear from
the display panel) or by activating the Repeat Play br or Track
Scan bt functions.
bt TRACK SCAN (SCAN)
During disc play, press and hold this button for 0.5 seconds to
play the first 10 seconds of each track on the disc (the track
number on the display panel will flash during Track Scan
operation). When a desired track is reached, press the Scan
buttonagain tocancelthe functionand playof theselected track
will continue. Track Scan mode will also be canceled by
activatingtheRepeatPlaybr,TrackSelectbo,orShufflePlaybs
functions.
bu DISC EJECT ( )
Disc play is stopped, the disc is ejected, and the unit will change
to radio operation by pressing this button. Discs may be ejected
with the ignition switch on or off.
cl FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON (REL)
Thisbuttonis usedtoreleasethemechanism thatholdsthefront
panel to the chassis. To detach the front panel, press the button
sothattherightsideofthepanel isreleased. Graspthe released
sideand pullitoff ofthechassis. To re-attachthepanel, position
theleftsideofthepanelinplacefirstandthenpresstherightside
of the panel until the mechanism locks it into place.

NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1. Make sure the front panel is right-side-up when attaching it to
the chassis as it cannot be attached when up-side down.
2.Donotpressveryhardonthefrontpanelwhenattachingittothe
chassis. No more than light to moderate pressure should be
needed.
3. When attaching the front panel, make sure the left side is
correctly engaged before pressing the right side to lock it into
position.
4. When taking the front panel with you, please use the supplied
carryingcasetoprotectthepanelfromdirtanddamage. Make
sure there is no dust or dirt on the electrical terminals on the
back of the panel as this could cause intermittent operation or
other malfunctions.

SETTING THE CLOCK
1. Turn the radio on so that the radio frequency or clock time is shown on the display panel.
2. Press and hold the Select button 3approximately 4 seconds until the time display begins flashing.
3. While the time display is still flashing, press the Manual Down Tuning side of the button ( –) to adjust the hours and the Manual
Up Tuning side of the button ( +) to adjust the minutes to the correct time.
4. When the correct time is shown on the display panel, press the Select button 3again to return to normal display.

FREQUENCY STEP SWITCH
Thisunit issuppliedpre-set atthe factoryfor receptionof NorthAmerican radiostations (10KHz. channelspacingon AM,200 KHz.
spacingon FM). Usein otherareas ofthe worldmay requiredifferentchannel spacing. Aswitch onthe bottomof thechassis allows
selectionof 9KHz. AM/50KHz. FMchannel spacing. Withthe 16-pinpower connectorun-plugged fromthe socketattherearofthe
chassis, slide the switch to the appropriate position using a small screwdriver blade.
ERROR CODES
If a problem should develop while operating the CD player, the following error codes may be displayed on the LCD panel.
Incaseofanyoftheaboveindications,ejectthedisc, makesureit clean,undamaged,and hadbeenloaded correctly(labelside up).
Re-loadthediscandcheck forproper operationor tryanother disc. Ifthisdoesnotsolve theproblem, contactanapprovedwarranty
station for further assistance.

Do not attempt to open the unit chassis. There are no user
serviceable parts or adjustments inside.
Whenthevehiclewarmsupduringcoldweatherorunderdamp
conditions, moisture may condense on the lens of the disc
player. Should this occur, the player will not operate properly
until the moisture has evaporated.
TheunitisdesignedwithavibrationdampeningCDmechanism
tominimize interruptionofdisc playdueto normalvibrationin a
moving vehicle. When driving on very rough roads, however,
occasional sound skips may occur. This will not scratch or
damage the disc and normal play will resume when the rough
conditions cease.
HANDLING COMPACT DISCS
Dirt, dust, scratches, and warpage can cause skips in the
playbackanddeteriorationofsoundquality. Pleasefollowthese
guidelines to take care of your compact discs:
Use only compact discs with the mark
Fingerprints, dust, and dirt should be carefully wiped off the
disc’s playing surface (shiny side) with a soft cloth. Wipe in a
straight motion from the inside to the outside of the disc.
Never use chemicals such as record sprays, household clean-
ers or thinner to clean compact discs. Such chemicals can
irreparably damage the disc’s surface.
Discs should be kept in their storage cases when not in use.
Donotexposediscstodirectsunlight,hightemperaturesorhigh
humidity for extended periods.
Donotstickpaper,tape,orlabelsonthediscsurfaces norwrite
on them with any type of marker.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Theradiosectionofyournewsoundsystemdoesnotrequireany
maintenance. We recommend you keep this manual for refer-
enceonthemanyfeaturesfoundinthisunitaswellashowtoset
the clock.
The compact disc player section also requires no routine main-
tenance, but proper understanding of its use and handling will
help you obtain maximum enjoyment of its capabilities. The
following points should be observed:
When cleaning the interior of the vehicle, do not get water or
cleaning fluids on the unit.
The CD player is a precision instrument and will not operate
properlyin extreme hotor cold. Incase ofsuch conditions,wait
until the interior temperature of the vehicle reaches a normal
temperature before using the player.
If the temperature inside the player gets too hot, a protective
circuitwill automaticallystop playof thedisc. In thiscase, allow
the unit to cool off before operating the player again.
Never insert anything other than a 5" (12 cm) compact disc into
theplayerasthemechanismcanbedamagedbyforeignobjects.
Donotattempttouse3"(8cm)CD-Singlediscsinthisunit,either
with or without an adaptor, as damage to the player and/or disc
mayoccur. SuchdamagewillnotbecoveredbytheWarrantyon
this product.
When not using the disc player, always remove the compact
disc. Do not leave an ejected disc sitting in the disc slot as this
can expose it to sunlight and other causes of damage.
