OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

1ON-OFF POWER BUTTON / MUTE
Press this button momentarily to turn the unit on. The unit will
also turn on automatically when a compact disc is inserted if the
ignition switch is "on". Press and hold the PWR button for 2
seconds to turn the unit "off".
Thisbuttonisalsoused to mutethe volume levelwhen the unitis
turnedon. The MUTE indication willblink on thedisplay andthe
audiowill mute tothepre-set level.
NOTE: See section on "Mute level".
2VOLUME CONTROL
To increase the volumelevel, press the +sideof the button. The
volume will increase and the level will be shown on the display
panel from a minimum of 0 to a maximum of 80. To increase the
volume quickly, keep the button pressed. To decrease the
volume level, press the –side of the button. Keep the button
pressed to decrease the volume quickly. The display will
automatically return to the normal indication 5 seconds after
the last volume adjustment or when another function is activated.
These buttons are also used toadjust the mutelevel.
3TUNE/LEVEL CONTROL ( / ) ( / )
Use / buttons for tuning radio, CD player track selection
andforleveladjustment ofthe bass, treble andbalance features.
Use the / buttons for scan tuning, pre-set scan tuning, scan
playinCD modeandfor leveladjustment ofbass,treble andfader.
4SELECT BUTTON (SEL)
SELECT FUNCTION: This button is used to select the audio
function (bass, treble, balance, or fade) to be adjusted usingthe
LevelControl3,aswellasthemutelevelandlevelmetersensitivity.

5 DISPLAY (T/F) BUTTON
IGNITION-OFF CLOCK CALL
During radio operation, a momentary press of the button will
change the display from frequency to clock time. Press again
and the radio display will change back to frequency.
DuringCDoperation, amomentary pressof thebuttonwill change
the display from track elapsed time to clock time.
IGNITION-OFF CLOCK CALL: To check the time with thevehicle
ignition switch in the "off" position, momentarily press the T/F
button. The display will illuminate and show the time and then
automatically shut off after 5 seconds.
6BASS CONTROL
To adjust the bass level, first select the Bass mode by pressing
the Select button 4so that the level number above the BASS
indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Bass
mode, press either the / or the / buttons of the Level
control 3to adjust the bass response as desired. The bass
level will be shown on the display panel from a minimum of –7 to
a maximum of 7(0is flat response). The display will automatically
return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment
or when another function is activated.
7TREBLE CONTROL
To adjust the treble level, first select the Treble mode by pressing
the Select button 4so that the level number above the TRE
indication is flashing. Within 5 seconds of choosing the Treble
mode, press either the / or the / buttons of the Level
control 3to adjust the treble response as desired. The treble
level will be shown on the display panel from a minimum of –7 to
a maximum of 7(0is flat response). The display will automatically
return to the normal indication 5 seconds after the last adjustment
or when another function is activated.
8LEFT/RIGHTBALANCE&FRONT/REAR FADERCONTROL
To adjust the left-right speaker balance and front-rear fader, first
select the Balance/Fader mode by pressing the Select button 4
so that the

5 seconds of choosing the Balance/Fader mode, press the
button of the Level Control 3to adjust the stereo balance to
the left channel speakers or the button to adjust it to the right
channelspeakers. When the volumelevel between the rightand
left channels is equal,

0will be shown on the display panel.
Adjustingthe balance towardthe rightwill increasethe numberon
the rightside ofthe displaytoa maximum of R9(full right). Adjust-
ing the balance toward the left will increase the number on the
left side of the display to a maximum of L9 (full left). The display
willautomaticallyreturnto thenormalindication5seconds after the
lastbalance adjustment or whenanother function is activated.
Pressthe or the buttons of theLevel Control 3to adjust the
front-rear speaker levels as desired. When the level of the front
andrear speakersis equal,

Adjusting the fader toward the front speakers will increase the
number on the left side of the display to a maximum of F9(full
front). Adjusting the fader towardthe rear speakers will increase
thenumber ontherightside ofthedisplayto amaximum of R9(full
rear). The display will automatically return to the normal indi-
cation5 seconds after the last faderadjustment or whenanother
function is activated.

9SOUND STAGE PRE-SETS
The sound stage features allows the user to quickly adjust the
balance and fader controls for optimum listening in each of the
various seating positions in the vehicle. To select one of the five
soundstage pre-sets, enter thebalance/fader mode by pressing
the select button 4so that the

0indication appears on the
display panel. Within 5 seconds of choosing the mode, press
one of the following pre-set buttons as indicated below to optimize
listening for the five seating position:
The sound stage pre-sets are factory set to the following
conditions:
If desired, you can change the factory sound stage settings for
each of the five seating positions by adjusting the balance and
fader levels and then pressing the appropriate pre-set button for
more than 2 seconds. The balance and fader indicator will blink
whenthe new setting is stored.
bl MUTE LEVEL
To adjust the mute level, first select the mute mode by pressing
the select button 4so that the MUTE indication appears on the
display. Within 5 seconds of choosing the mute level mode,
press the button of the level control to decrease or the to
increase. The mute level can be decreased to -80 (silence) and
increased to -0 (no effect) default setting is -20.
bm LEVEL METER SENSITIVITY
To adjust the level meter sensitivity, first select the level meter
modeby pressing theselect button 4so thatthe LE indicationis
shown on the display. Use the button to select HI(High)
sensitivity and button to select the Lo (Low) sensitivity setting
for the level meter display. This feature allows the user to select
thelevel meter scale.
bn LOUDNESS CONTOUR (L/D)
Pressing this button for longer than 2 seconds will activate the
Loudness Contour as indicated by LOUD on the display panel.
Whenlisteningto musicatlow volumelevels,this featurewillboost
thebassand treblerangestocompensateforthecharacteristics of
human hearing. Pressing the button again for longer than 2
secondswill deactivatethefeatureand LOUD willdisappear from
thedisplay panel.
NOTE:Momentary presses of the button will change the radio
sensitivity in Seek and Scan Tuning modes from local to
distance and back again as described in section br.
bo AM/FM BAND SELECTOR (BAND)
AUTO-STORE TUNING (AS)
During radio operation, each momentary press of this button will
change the radio band. The indication AMI, AMII, FMI, FMII, or
FMIII will appear on the display panel according to your selection.
Pressing and holding the button for longer than 4 seconds will
activate the Auto-Store Tuning function which will automatically
scan the AM or FM bands and enter strong stations into the
: For the left front seat (R2 R4)
: For the entire front seat ( 0 R4)
: For the right front seat (L2 R4)
: For the entire rear seat ( 0 F4)
: For the entire vehicle ( 0 0)

pre-set memory positions for that band. If you have already set
the pre-set memories on the AM or FM bands to your favorite
stations,activating the Auto-Storefeature will erasethose stations
andenter newones. This feature ismost usefulwhen traveling in
a new area where you are not familiar with the local stations.
bp MANUAL UP/DOWN TUNING ( / )
AUTOMATIC SEEK TUNING
Each time the side of the button is tapped, the radio will tune
one frequency step higher. Similarly, each tap of the side of
the button will tune one frequency step lower. To manually tune
in a station, tap the button of the appropriate direction until the
desired frequency is reached.
Pressing either side of the button for longer than 0.5 seconds
and then releasing will activate the Automatic Seek Tuning
function. The radio will seek the next available station and stop
at that frequency. The Seek function can be stopped by pressing
the button again or activating any other tuning function.
Pressing and holding either side of the button for longer than 0.5
seconds will cause the radio to continue tuning rapidly in the
selected direction until thebutton is releasedat which pointit will
seekto thenext available station.
bq AUTOMATIC SCAN TUNING ( / SC)
PRE-SET SCAN TUNING ( / PS)
During radio operation, press this button to scan the stations on
the band in use, stopping at each one for 8 seconds before
continuing to thenext station (thefrequency on the displaypanel
will flash during Scan mode operation). When a desired station
is reached, press the button again to stop the Scan function and
remain on the selected frequency. Scan mode will also be
canceled by activating any other tuning function.
Pressing and holding the button for 2 seconds will activate the
Pre-Set ScanTuningfunctionwhich willscanthe 6stationspre-set
into the memories of the AM band or the 12 stations pre-set into
the FMI and FMII bands. The unit will stop at each pre-set station
for 8 seconds before continuing to the next pre-set station (the
pre-set number on the display panel will flash during Pre-Set
Scan operation). Press the button again momentarily to stop
Pre-Set Scan operation and remain on the selected frequency.
br LOCAL/DISTANT SELECTOR (L/D)
This feature is used to select the strength of the signals at which
the radio will stop during Automatic Seek and Scan Tuning. Mo-
mentarily pressing the button will select the Local setting (LOC
will appear on the display panel) and only strong (local) stations
will be received. Momentarily pressing the button again will
select the Distant setting (LOC will disappear from the display
panel) and the radio will stop at a wider range of signals, including
weaker(more distant) stations.
NOTE:Pressingthisbutton for longerthan 2 secondswill activate
ordeactivate the Loudness Contourfeature as described
in Section bn.
bs STATION PRE-SET MEMORIES
To set any of the 6 pre-set memories in each band, use the
following procedure:
1. Turn the radio on and select the desired band.
2. Select thefirststation tobepre-setusing theManualUp/Down
or Automatic Seek Tuning Controls bp.
3. Press the pre-set button to be set and continue to hold it in.
After approximately 2 seconds, the display will flash and the
volumewill be momentarilymuted indicating thatthe station
is now set into that pre-set memory position. The station can
now be recalled at any time by pressing that button.

4. Repeat theabove procedure for the remaining5 pre-sets on
that band and for the other 2 bands on the unit.
bt LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY PANEL
The Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) panel displays the frequency,
time,and activated functions.
NOTE:It is a characteristic of LCD panels that, if subjected to
cold temperatures for an extended period of time, they
maytakelonger toilluminatethan undernormalconditions.
In addition, the visibility of the numbers on the LCD may
slightly decrease. The LCD read-out will return to normal
when the temperature increases to a normal range.
bu DISC SLOT
With the label surface facing up, gently insert the disc into the
slot until the soft-loading mechanism engages (LOAd will appear
on the display panel) and disc play begins. The IN indication
and track number will appear on the display panel.
NOTE:This unit is designed for play of standard 5" (12cm)
Compact Discs ONLY. Do notattempt to use 3" (8cm)
CD-Singlesin thisunit, eitherwithor withoutan adapter, as
damage to the player and/or disc can occur. Such dam
age will not be covered by the Warranty on this product.
cl CD MODE SELECTOR (MODE)
When listening to radio with a disc loaded in the unit ( IN on
the display panel), press this button to return to disc play mode
from the point at which play was stopped.
During disc play, pressing this button will stop play of the disc
and switch to radio operation without ejecting the disc. During
this time, the IN indication will remain on the display panel to
show that a disc is still loaded in the unit. Press the button again
to return to disc play from the point at which it was stopped.
cm TRACK SELECT ( /)
These buttons are used to quickly select the beginning of a
particular track. Witheach momentary tapof the Forward Track
Select button , the next higher track number will be selected
as shown on the display panel. Similarly, with each momentary
tapof the Backward TrackSelect button ,the next lower track
numberwill be selected.
cn CUE/REVIEW FUNCTIONS ( /)
High-speed audible search to any section of the disc can be
made by the Cue and Review functions. Press and hold the
Cue button to advance rapidly in the forward direction or
the Review button to advance rapidly inthe backward direc-
tion. During either function, the elapsed time within each track
willautomatically be shown onthe display panel.
co PAUSE/PLAY SELECTOR (6/II )
During disc play, press this button to temporarily stop play of the
disc (PAUS indication will flash on the display panel). Press the
button again to resume play of the disc from the point at which it
was stopped. Pause mode will also be canceled by activating
any other disc function.
cp REPEAT PLAY SELECTOR (5/RPT)
Duringdiscplay, pressthisbutton torepeatthe playofthe selected
track (RPT will appear on the display panel). Play of the track
will continue to repeat until the button is pressed again and the
RPT indication disappears from the display panel. Repeat Play
modewill also be canceledby activating ShufflePlay cq orTrack
Scan cr functions.
cq SHUFFLE PLAY SELECTOR (4/SHF)
During disc play, press this button to play the tracks on the disc

ina randomshuffled order(SHF willappear onthe displaypanel).
In Shuffle Play mode, the Forward Track Select (+) will also
select tracks in the random order instead of the normal
progression. BackwardTrackSelect (–) willonly go backto the
beginning of the track in play. The Shuffle Play mode can be
canceled by pressing the button again (SHF indication will
disappear from the display panel) or by activating the Repeat
Play cp or Track Scan cr functions.
cr TRACK SCAN ( )
During disc play, press this button to play the first 10 seconds of
each track on the disc (SCAN will appear and the track number
onthedisplay panelwillflashduringTrackScanoperation). When
a desired track is reached, press the Scan button again to
cancel the function (SCAN will disappear and track number will
stop flashing) and play of the selected track will continue. Track
Scan mode willalso becanceled byactivatingtheRepeat Playcp,
Shuffle Play cq, Track Select cm or Cue/Review cn functions.
cs DISC EJECT ( )
Disc play is stopped, the disc is ejected (EJ on display panel),
and the unit will change to radio operation by pressing this
button. If the disc is not removed from the unit within 10 seconds
of being ejected, it will automatically be re-loaded into the unit to
prevent damage ( IN will appear on the display panel). Press-
ing the Eject button again before removing the disc will also re-
load the disc into the unit. Discs may be loaded or ejected with
the ignition switch on or off.
ct FRONT PANEL RELEASE BUTTON
Thisbutton is usedtorelease the mechanismthat holds the front
panel to the chassis. To detach the front panel, press the button
so that the left side of the panel is released. Grasp the released
side and pull it off of the chassis. To re-attach the panel, position
theright side of thepanel in place first andthen press the leftside
of the panel until the mechanism locks it into place.
NOTES ON USE OF FRONT PANEL
1. Make sure the front panel is right-side-up when attaching it to
the chassis as it cannot be attached when up-side down.
2. Do not press very hard on the front panel when attaching it to
thechassis. No more than lighttomoderate pressure should
beneeded.
3. When attaching the front panel, make sure the right side is
correctly engaged before pressing the left side to lock it into
position.
4. When taking the front panel with you, please use the supplied
carryingcase to protectthe panel fromdirt anddamage. Make
sure there is no dust or dirt on the electrical terminals on the
backofthe panel as this could cause intermittent operation
orother malfunctions.
cu RE-SET BUTTON
A Re-Set button is located on the front of the chassis (front panel
must be removed to access the button). The re-set circuitry is
provided to protect the microprocessor circuitry and should only
beactivated under thefollowingcircumstances as itwill erase the
timeand pre-set memories.
1. Upon initialinstallation after all wiringis complete.
2. After the position of the frequency step switch on the bottom
of the chassis has been changed.
3. If there is a malfunction of any of the switches on the unit,
pressing the Re-Set button may clear the system and return
tonormal operation.

ERROR CODES
Ifa problem shoulddevelopwhile operating theCD player, the followingerror codes maybe displayed on theLCD panel.
E-01: Indicates an error in the unit reading the data on the disc.
E-02: Indicates an error in the laser focus on the disc. May be caused by high temperature conditions in which case play will
resumewhenthetemperature returnstonormalrange.
E-03: Indicatesadata andfocuserror. Maybe causedbyhigh temperatureconditionsin whichcaseplay willresumewhen the
temperaturereturnstonormal.
E-04: Indicatesamechanical error.
E-05: Indicates a problem with the loading or eject mechanism.
Incase of any ofthe above indications, eject thedisc, make sure itis clean, undamaged, andhad been loaded correctly (label
side up). Re-load the disc and check for proper operation or try another disc. You may also try pressing the Re-set button cu on
the front of the chassis (remove the front panel), but this will also erase the time setting and pre-set memories. If these
suggestionsdo not solve theproblem, contact anapprovedwarranty station forfurther assistance.
SETTING THE CLOCK
1. Turn the radio on so that the radio frequency or clock time is shown on the display panel.
2. Press and hold the T/F button 5approximately 2 seconds until the time display begins flashing.
3. Press the to select hour adjustment and the to select minutes adjustment.
4. After selecting either hour or minute adjustment button to increment or the button to decrement to the correct time.
5. When the correct time is shown on the display panel, press the T/F button 5again to return to normal display.

Do not attempt to open the unit chassis. There are no user
serviceablepartsoradjustmentsinside.
Whenthevehiclewarmsupduringcoldweatherorunderdamp
conditions,moisturemaycondenseonthelensofthediscplayer.
Should this occur, the player will not operate properly until the
moisturehasevaporated.
TheunitisdesignedwithavibrationdampeningCDmechanism
tominimize interruptionof discplaydue tonormal vibrationin a
moving vehicle. When driving on very rough roads, however,
occasional sound skips may occur. This will not scratch or
damage the disc and normal play will resume when the rough
conditions cease.
HANDLINGCOMPACTDISCS
Dirt, dust, scratches, and warpage can cause skips in the
playbackanddeteriorationofsoundquality. Pleasefollowthese
guidelines to take care of your compact discs:
Use only compact discs with the mark
Fingerprints,dust,anddirtshouldbecarefullywipedoffthedisc’s
playingsurface(shiny side) with a soft cloth. Wipe in a straight
motion from the inside to the outside of the disc.
Neverusechemicalssuch asrecordsprays,householdcleaners
or thinner to clean compact discs. Such chemicals can
irreparably damage the disc’s surface.
Discs should be kept in their storage cases when not in use.
Donotexposediscstodirectsunlight,hightemperaturesorhigh
humidity for extended periods.
Donotstickpaper,tape,orlabels onthediscsurfacesnorwrite
on them with any type of marker.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Theradiosectionofyournewsoundsystemdoesnotrequireany
maintenance. We recommend you keep this manual for
referenceonthe manyfeaturesfoundinthisunit aswellashow
to set the clock.
The compact disc player section also requires no routine
maintenance,butproperunderstanding ofits useand handling
willhelp youobtain maximum enjoymentof its capabilities. The
followingpointsshouldbeobserved:
When cleaning the interior of the vehicle, do not get water or
cleaning fluids on the unit.
The CD player is a precision instrument and will not operate
properlyin extreme hot or cold. Incase of such conditions, wait
until the interior temperature of the vehicle reaches a normal
temperature before using the player.
Ifthetemperatureinsidetheplayergetstoohot,aprotectivecircuit
willautomaticallystopplayofthedisc. Inthiscase,allowtheunit
to cool off before operating the player again.
Never insert anything other than a 5" (12 cm) compact disc into
theplayerasthemechanismcanbedamagedbyforeignobjects.
Donotattempttouse3"(8cm)CD-Singlediscsinthisunit,either
with or without an adaptor, as damage to the player and/or disc
may occur. Such damage will not be covered by the Warranty
onthisproduct.
Whennotusingthediscplayer,alwaysremovethecompactdisc.
Do not leave an ejected disc sitting in the disc slot as this can
expose it to sunlight and other causes of damage.
