MultEQ Pro Calibration
The MultEQ Pro calibration process is outlined in 16 steps.
Follow these steps for proper installation of the Audyssey
Sound Equalizer.
STEP 1
Connect the Sound Equalizer’s inputs to the preamplifier/
processor’s outputs (A). Both devices should be powered off
at this point.
Warning: Do not connect the Sound Equalizer’s 1/Mic input at
this time. Doing so will cause feedback to be played through your
speakers, which can possibly damage them.
STEP 2
Connect the Sound Equalizer’s outputs to the amplifier
inputs (B). Both devices should be powered off at this point.

STEP 4
Turn the amplifier and the Sound Equalizer on. Open the
MultEQ Pro application on your laptop, read the Welcome
Page and complete the first 4 screens.
1 Job Information
Enter an identifying name for your installation job.
2 Product Selection
Choose which Audyssey-enabled product you are installing
(choose Audyssey Sound Equalizer).
3 Options
Select which Audyssey Calibrated Microphone you are using for
your installation. Microphones are listed by serial number.
4 Zone Configuration
Configure your multiroom installation by assigning the Sound
Equalizer’s available channels to designated zones. Use the drop-
down menu to assign speaker types to each Sound Equalizer
channel. Each column of buttons represents a possible zone.
Note: Channels 1–4 on the Sound Equalizer contain higher-
resolution filters for satellite speakers than channels 5–8. It is
highly-recommended that for surround systems you assign the
left front, center and right front speakers to any of channels 1–4.

STEP 5
Select a zone and enter information about the particular
zone you are calibrating.
1 Select a Zone
Choose which zone to calibrate. To calibrate remaining zones
(if any) you must return to this screen by clicking the back
arrow button.
2 Room Dimensions
Select the dimensions of the zone you are calibrating. This infor-
mation is uploaded to the Audyssey Installer Web Site in Step
16. It can also be used to help select the most appropriate target
sound option in Step 11.
3 Equipment Info
Input information about the audio equipment installed in the
zone. Create future sales opportunities by telling your customer
their system will need another MultEQ Pro calibration if any of
their equipment changes.

Note:
Complete steps 6 and 7 before proceeding to step 8 the
Measurement screen.
STEP 6
Use an XLR cable to connect the Calibrated Preamplifier LINE
OUT to the XLR-to-RCA Adapter (A).
STEP 7
Connect the XLR-to-RCA Adapter to the Sound Equalizer’s
1/Mic input (B). This connects the Calibrated Microphone
to the Sound Equalizer.
STEP 8
Prepare to begin the room measurements on the
Measurement screen (C).
Before measuring:
• Place microphone in a vertical position for all measurements.
• Quiet the room. Turn off home appliances, close windows,
turn off lights/cell phones, etc.
• Do not sit or stand between microphone and speakers during
measurements.
• Measure only in positions where listeners will sit or stand.

STEP 9
(A) Begin room measurements on the Measurement screen by
placing the microphone at ear level at position 1 (the primary
position).
Measure at position 1
Audyssey’s test signals play through each channel. Time and fre-
quency response is recorded. The absolute polarity, level (within half
a dB) and delay (within half an inch) of each speaker are calculated.
Measure at more positions
Record time and frequency response at other positions. A minimum of
6-8 position measurements are recommended for average-size rooms
(32 positions maximum). The most appropriate subwoofer crossover
frequency for each speaker is also calculated.
STEP 10
Review the Detection Results screen (B) and manually enter the
Distance, Level and Crossover information into the preampli-
fier/processor.
Detection Results
This screen displays the speaker Distance, Level and Polarity results
derived from your Position 1 measurement and the Crossover rec-
ommendations derived from all of your measurements.
Note: Your preamplifier/processor may not list individual distance,
level and crossover settings for each speaker. See the Installation
Manual for detailed instructions.

STEP 11
On the Target Sound Options screen (A), choose one
of Audyssey’s four custom target curves from the
Target Curve menu. The four choices are based on the
size and reverberant/absorptive characteristics of the
room and whether you are using THX re-equalization.
It is recommended that you engage the ‘Midrange
Compensation’ option for your first listening test (this is
selected by default). Midrange compensation is sometimes
necessary to correct for the directivity differences that often
occur in that frequency range due to the crossover circuitry
or horn-loaded speakers. You can later return to this screen
and disengage this option if you prefer.
Click the forward arrow button to calculate your MultEQ XT filters.
STEP 12
On the Save Results screen (B), transfer the MultEQ XT filters
you have calculated to the Sound Equalizer by clicking the
Transfer to Sound EQ button. This process only temporarily
stores the filters in the Sound Equalizer so you can listen to
them before deciding to permanently save them.
Warning: After transferring filters, remove the microphone’s
LINE OUT XLR cable from the Sound Equalizer’s 1/Mic input and
replace with preamplifier/processor output. Not removing the
mic cable at this time will cause feedback to be played through

Click the View Results button to view a graphical display of
the frequency response correction for each channel (right).
STEP 15
You can change your filters by clicking the back arrow and
returning to the Measurements or Target Sound Options
screens. To permanently save them to the Sound Equalizer,
click the Save Permanently to SoundEQ button.
After saving you have two options:
1 Continue to the next zone
If there are more installation zones remaining, click the back
arrow button to return to the Select a Zone screen. Choose the
next zone to calibrate and repeat steps 5-15 until you’re done.
2 Finish MultEQ Pro
When you have no more zones left to calibrate, close the
MultEQ Pro application. The Sound Equalizer is now MultEQ
Pro calibrated.

After your customer’s Sound Equalizer installation, upload
their MultEQ Pro calibration results to your personal account
on the Audyssey Installer Web Site.
This has three functions:
1 It stores the speaker delays, levels and crossover information
you entered into your customer’s preamplifier/processor(s).
It also stores your customer’s equipment for each zone you
installed for them.
2 It creates a Customer Certificate (below), which Audyssey mails
to you within a few days.
3 It stores your customer’s MultEQ Pro time and frequency
response correction results on your personal account on the
Audyssey Installer Web Site. You can log onto the web site to
view these results anytime.
Please visit www.audyssey.com/installer
to register and create your personal account
on the Audyssey Installer Web Site.
