ThishandbookcoverstheVolkswagenTridenthigh-topandtheVolkswagen
Trooperwiththesolidsidedelevatingroof.Thelivingareaissimilarinboth
models,theonlyvariationbeingintheroofarea.AllcomplywithEN1646-1:
1998.
VEHICLETYPE
Auto-SleeperTridentandTrooperarebasedontheVolkswagenTransporter
panelvan.
CONVERSIONTYPES
Apanelvanconversionwithfourseatsdesignatedforusewhilstthevehicleisin
motion.
TheTridentandTroopermaybespecifiedaseither2 or4 berth.
CLIMATICCONDITIONS
TheTridentisdesignedforuseintemperateclimates.Whenfittedwiththe
CarverP4,itiscertifiedasGrade2 inaccordancewithEN1646:1998.Grade2
indicatesthattheheatingsystemwillraisetheinteriortemperaturesfrom0°Cto
20°Cwithintwohours.
TheTrooperconformstoGrade1 inaccordancewithEN1646:1998.Grade1
indicatesthatnoheatingrequirementshavebeenmet.
HISTORICAL
TheVolkswagenTridentandTrooperwereintroducedinSeptember1991and
subsequentlyupdatedinDecember1994andagaininFebruary1997.

Thecylindervalvealsoactsasthemainisolationvalveforthegassystemand
shouldalwaysbeturnedoffwhenthevehicleisinmotion.Whenthegas
appliances
arerequired
turn
onthecylindervalveandalltheindividualappliance
isolationvalves.
Theisolatortapisinthe'ON'positionwhentheknobruns"along"thepipework.
InstructionsforoperationforallgasoperatedapplianceswillbefoundinSection

i.Thewaterpumpissituatedbehindthebottompanel,offside
toilet
cupboard,
controlledby themasterswitchintheelectricalcontrolpanel.
Whenthewatersystemisnotrequired,thepumpshouldbeswitchedoff.

1.1Theversatiledesignof
both
theTridentandTrooperallowsa roomyliving
area.
A
largeamountoffloorspacepermitsuseas
both
a loadcarrierandpassenger
vehicle
with
easy
access
throughtheslidingdoor.Bothmodelsareparticularly
suitableforadaptationforuseby persons
with
disabilities.

SEATINGARRANGEMENTS
2.1Inadditiontothecab
seats,
seatingfortwoisavailableattherearofthevehicle.
Thepassengercabseatis
fitted
with
a swivelmechanism.Boththecabseats
can
beadjustedtoprovidea comfortabletravellingpositionby releasingthe
catches
tothesideoftheseatwhichcontroltheforeandaftmovementand
backrestrake.Theoptionalarmrestsareadjustedbytheknurledknobonthe
underside.
2.2Whentravelling
with
childreninthevehicle,thechildproofsafetylockonthe
slidingdoorshouldbeengaged.Ensure
that
thisisdisengagedwhenthemotor
caravan
isparkedofftheroad.
2.3Lapanddiagonalinertiareelseatbeltsare
fitted
asstandardequipmenttoall
seats
andpassengersareadvised
that
itisa legalrequirementtowearthese
whilstthevehicleisinmotion.

SWIVEL
MECHANISM
3.1Inordertoswivelthepassengerseat,
lift
thereleaseleveronthe
front
ofthe
seat.
Ensure
that
theswivelmechanismislocked
with
theseatfacingforward
beforemovingoff.
Care
mustbetakenwhilstswivellingthepassengerseatto
ensure
that
itsrunnersdonotcome
into
contactanddamagethepassenger
doorpocket.A smalldegreeofforeandaftmovementmaybenecessaryto
avoidthis.

seat
andthesmaller

tableisinthebeddrawer.Whenthelargetableis
required,thelegshould

beplacedinthefloormountingandthetableplaced

mountinghole.

andtheladderusedfor

Whenthe

theelevatingrooffully,engagethesidepanelsintheirverticallocked
position,placingthemattressesasfollows:
i.Thin(small)mattressatrearofroof
area.

Forwardmattressboardinfullyforwardpositionagainsttrimmedlocation
blocks.
3.2.2Todismantlethebed,theaboveactionshouldbereversednoting
that
the
thin
(small)roofmattressmustbeplacedtotherearoftheroof

with
theforwardcatchapplied,theforwardturnbuckleclip

onthecatchina horizontalpositionand

therearlockingbar
intheforwardposition
with
thesafetystrap,clippedinposition.The
externalpull-downclipsmustbeappliedbeforemovingoff.Underno
circumstances
mustthevehiclebedriven
without
theseclipsbeing
secure.
