UnladenWeight. The weight ofthe vehicle with body fitted with all

RECOMMENDED TYREPRESSURES
For tyre pressures, refer tothe base vehicle instruction booklet.
Tyre pressures may need tobe adjusted toa small degreefromthese
figures according tothe vehicle payload. For all other automotive
matters you should refer tothe Base Vehicle Instruction Book.
WATER SYSTEM
Water Tank. A 77.7 litre (17 gallon) fresh watertank is
fitted. A triple diaphragmwater pump provides running water to
the sink. The watersystem is externally filled using non-toxic
semi—rigid hose* The tricle diaphragmwater pumpis fitted with
an over-ride switch inthe electrical control panel, andthe
pumpis protected with a 10amp fuse. An optional 29.7 litre
(6% gallon) wastewatertank is available.
7. GAS SYSTEM
a. General. Either a 4.7kg Butane ora 3.9kg Propane gas
cylinder plus one Camping Gaz907 cylinder maybe carried inthe
vented gas locker atthe base ofthe wardrobe.Access to this
locker, which is sealed against the ingress of vapour into the
interior ofthe vehicle, is from the rear ofthe vehicle. Metric
steel and copper pipe with brass fittings is used for all gas
appliances each of which has its owngas isolator tap. Appliances
are designed for use with Butane at 28Mb (11.2")water gauge, or
with, Propane at37mb (14.8")water gauge.

8. ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
a.General.The12voltDC electrical system isfed through the
vehicle battery:a second 12volt60 amp/hour batterymaybe fitted
asanoptionalextra.A 240volt mains hook-up is fitted forthe
refrigerator (mains operation),and water heater (mains operationif
fitted) andthe240voltplugsocket.
b.InteriorLighting.Interior lighting consistsof:
1. Three 16 watt twin tube fluorescent lights.
2.One13 watt single tube fluorescent light.
3.Two courtesy lights.

4.1
INTERNAL LAYOUT
GENERAL
The versatile design ofthe Tridentallows a roomy living area together
withall the amenities found ina luxurious motor caravan. A large
amount of floor space permits useas both a load carrier and passenger
vehicle with easy access through the sliding side door.
SEATING ARRANGEMENTS
Inaddition tothe contoured cab seats,furtherseatingfor twois
available atthe rear of the vehicle. The passenger cab seat is fitted
with a swivel mechanism. Both the cab seats canbe adjusted to provide
a comfortable drivingposition by releasing the catches tothe side of
theseat which control the fore and aft movement and backrestrake.
Both cab seats are fitted with trimmed headrests as standard.
IMPORTANT: WHENTHE VEHICLE ISIN MOTIONWITH CHILDREN ON BOARD, THE
CHILD PROOF SAFETY LOCK ONTHE SLIDING DOOR SHOULD BE APPLIED. ENSURE
THAT THE CHILDPROOFLOCK ISNOT ACTIVATED WHENTHEMOTOR CARAVAN IS
PARKED OFFTHE ROAD.
IMPORTANT: SEAT RESTRAINT STRAPS ARE FITTED AS STANDARDEQUIPMENT TO
ALL FRONT FACING SEATS. PASSENGERS ARE ADVISED THAT ITISA LEGAL
REQUIREMENT TOWEAR THESE RESTRAINT STRAPS WHILST THE VEHICLE ISIN
MOTION.

SWIVEL MECHANISM
Inorder to swivel the passenger seat lift the releaselever onthe
side of the seat. The seat may then be swivelled.
IMPORTANT: ENSURETHAT THE SWIVEL MECHANISM IS LOCKED INTHEFORWARD
FACING POSITION BEFOREMOVING OFF.
TABLES
Two tables are supplied as standard. A largetable is stored, when not
in use, behind the driver'sseat. A smallerdinettetable is stored in
the upper section ofthebedbox drawer. When the largedinettetable
is required, the legshould first be placed inthe floor mounting and
thetableplaced upon it. When notinusethe table bung should be
placed in the floor mounting hole. When the additionaldinettetable
is required, this should be placed on the offsettableleg andthe
assembly swivelled tothe requiredposition.

KITCHEN AREA
Thekitchenareaisfoundonthe offside ofthevehicleandconsistsof
atwoburnercookerwith grill below, a stainless steel sink/drainer
anda refrigerator. The cooker/grill andthesink, when notinuse,
areconcealedbyhingedlaminatedheat resistant lids which offer
further working space ifrequired. Beneath the cooker/grill isthe2
cubic foot(gross) Electrolux RM212F gas/12 volt/240 volt refrigerator
which is fitted with electronic ignition, flame failure deviceand
freezer compartment. Below thesinkisa smallhinged flap which gives
accesstothe cutlery drawer as well astoa usefulareaforstoresand
utensils. Tothe right ofthe refrigerator isa furtherstorage
compartment withtwo drawers beneath. Immediatelytothe right ofthe
refrigerator at floor level is housed thechemical toilet initsown
storage compartment. Tothe right of this compartment isa furtherone
housingtheCarver Cascade (when fitted) gastap assembly and RCCD. In
theeventofa thermostatically controlled blown airheating system
being fitted theheaterventsarefoundat floor level immediatelyin
front ofthestorage drawer. Between thesinkand wardrobe isa
further largestoragearea which incorporatestwo removeable wire
baskets suitable for additional kitchenor clothing items. Above the
driving compartment aretheovercabroof lockers. Thecentrelockeris
suitable forthestorageofbeddingandother light bulkyitems,the
left hand locker houses the wine glassesandthecrockeryforfouris
housed inthe right hand locker.Itis essential that this crockeryis
securely fastened when thevehicleisinmotion.
WARDROBE UNIT
The wardrobe unit is situated atthenearsiderearofthe vehicle.
Accessisthroughboththehinged wardrobe door positionedinthetop
ofthe unit as well asthroughthe additional door which isaccessible
from therearofthevehicle when the tailgate is open. The wardrobe
incorporates a hanging rail. Thedimensionsare:Height2'10", Depth
1'4"and Width 1'11".
UPSTAIRS DOUBLE BED
Anupstairsdoublebed, suitable for children, islocatedattherear
ofthe vehicle. Thisbedis made upby first withdrawingthestorage
flap retaining clips, loweringthestorage retaining board,andthen
moving themattressestothebed position. The additional loose
mattress boards shouldbe used to infill asnecessary.Fordismantling
this bed, this actionshouldbereversed.
The upper beddoublesalsoasa storagearea.A three position
arrangement enablesthestorageareatobevariedaccordingtothe
amount of space required. When used forstoragetheforwardhinged
flap shouldalsobeinthe vertical position withthe locating bolts
locked into theappropriate position.
IMPORTANT: THE UPSTAIRS DOUBLE BED MUST NOTBE OCCUPIED WHEN THE
VEHICLE ISIN MOTION.
IMPORTANT: WHEN THE UPSTAIRS DOUBLE BED AREA IS USED FOR STORAGE THE
FORWARD SECTION OFTHEBED MUST BEINTHE VERTICAL POSITION WITH THE
CATCHES ENGAGED AND LOCKED INTO THE APPROPRIATE HOLES. THIS AREA MUST
NOTBE USED FORTHE STORAGE OF HEAVY ITEMS WHICH COULD MOVE FORWARD
UNDER HEAVY BREAKING.

8) STORAGE
Inaddition tothe areas already described, further storage space is
available inthebedbox drawer. Also items maybe stored onor below
therearparcelshelf as well asinthe small storage compartment
situated atthe nearside endofthe rearseat.
IMPORTANT:HEAVYITEMS MUST NOTBESTOREDINANYSTORAGEAREA FROM
WHICH IT COULD COME FREEANDCAUSE INJURY TOTHEOCCUPANTSOFTHE
VEHICLE. ENSUREALLCUPBOARDSARESECURELYFASTENEDBEFORE MOVING OFF.
ENSUREALSO THAT THEBEDBOX DRAWER LOCKSARE ENGAGED BEFORE MOVING
OFF.
9) SLEEPING ARRANGEMENTS
TheTridentoffers two sleeping arrangements as standard, either the
lower double bedorthe upstairs double bed.
Lower Double Bed.The lower double bedmaybemadeupas follows:
a) Release locking mechanism and withdraw seat base to fully extended
position. The cushions will automatically assume theircorrect
positions.
b) For converting thebed back tothe dinetteposition the above
sequence should be reversed.
Upper Double Bed.The upper double bedmaybe arranged as follows:
a) Withdraw lockingbolts from locked position on vertical storage
guard.
b) Withdraw mattress boards as appropriate to forward position
infilling as necessary withadditional mattress boards that are
found inthe rear ofthebed area.
c) For converting back into a storage area the above sequence should
be reversed.
IMPORTANT: MAXIMUM LOADINGFOR THEUPPERDOUBLEBEDIS 80kg THIS
WEIGHT LIMITATION MUST NOTBEEXCEEDED.
10) WINDOWS AND VENTILATION
Windows. All lower caravan windows are factory fitted Volkswagen units
and are manufactured in toughened glass. Two sliding windows are
fitted, oneonthe nearside side sliding door the other onthe offside
immediately behind the driversseat. To open the windows:
a) Press down locking button on window catch.
b)Slide window tothe requiredpositon.
It should be noted that the side sliding windows have intermediate stop
positionsthat allows them tobe opened toa small degree to give
ventilation whilst atthe sametime maintaining the security ofthe
vehicle.
IMPORTANT:See page 9.1SAFETYPRECAUTIONSGAS- Item 6.
Ventilation. In addition tothe ventilation provided bythe sliding
caravan windows andthecab windows, additionalventilation is
available through the Chantel roof ventilator. This multi-position
ventilator hasthe ability tobesetina variety of positions byuse
of the sliding catches. A flyscreen is also fitted; this maybe
removed by first unscrewing thetwo screws whenthe flyscreen assembly
may then be lifted out.A nightblind is also fitted tothe roof
ventilator; this isa spring loaded device which once withdrawn maybe
locked in its forward position byuseofthe hook catch. The
ventilator should beinthe closedpositionwhilst the vehicle isin
motion.

4.4
Flyscreens/Privacy Binds
Flyscreens/privacyblinds are fitted tothe lowercaravan windows.
These roller type flyscreens/blinds are operated by first pushing
together the spring loaded locking buttons onthe blind body and
then lifting tothe fully extended position. This will result in
the blind being inthe fully locked position thus allowing full
ventilation inhot weather whilst atthe sametime preventing the
ingress of insectsinto the interior ofthe vehicle.
IMPORTANT DONOTOBSTRUCTTHE VENTILATORS WHICHARE FITTED - YOUR
SAFETY DEPENDSUPON THEM.
INSULATION
All body panelsexcept the front doors are insulated using either
fibreglass wool or coremat insulationmaterial. The high topis also
insulatedgivingprotection againstextremes of heat and coldwhilst at
the same timeminimisingcondensation.

5.1
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
GENERAL. Allappliances fitted to theTrident have been throughly
tested and assessed byour Development Department, in conjunctionwith
theappropriate manufacturer. Beforeusing them you shouldrefer to
theappropriatesection in this Instruction Book as well astoany
appropriate accompanying manufacturer's literature. All warranty
certificates should be completed and returned tothe relevant
manufacturer.
GAS SYSTEM. The ventilated gas lockerissituated inthe base ofthe
wardrobe; access is from therear of thevehiclewith the tailgate
open. Thegas cylinders and regulators arenot suppliedwith the
vehicle; the system will operate on both Propane and Butane.
Regulatorsshould beofthe typeappropriate to the gas being used.
IMPORTANT: HOSE CLIPS ARETOBE USED ONALL FLEXIBLE HOSE CONNECTIONS.
THE HOSE USED MUST CONFORM TOBS 3212/1.
IMPORTANT: THEGAS BOTTLE, WHEN FITTED, MUST BE SECURED BYUSEOFTHE
RESTRAINING STRAP.
IMPORTANT: RUBBER SEALS AROUND THEGAS LOCKER DOOR SHOULD BE INSPECTED
ANNUALLY AND REPLACED AS NECESSARY.
Isolating Taps. Gas isolating taps aretobe found inthe cupboard
adjacent tothe chemical toilet storage compartment. The position of
tapsis as follows:

IMPORTANT: ALLGAS APPLIANCES SHOULD BE EXTINGUISHED, AND RELEVANT GAS
ISOLATION TAPS SWITCHED TOTHE"OFF" POSITION WHENTHE VEHICLE IS BEING
REFUELLED.
COOKER.
a)General. The Trident is fitted with a stainless steel two burner
cooker/gri11, fitted with flame failure devices.
b) Layout. The control knobs are found atthe front of theunit and
operate the followingappliances:

c)Operation
1. To light appropriateburner:
a) Ensure matches/taper are available.
b)Press in knob.
c) Turn anti-clockwise to vertical position.
d)Lightburner.
e)Hold the knob in for 10 second then release.
2. To simmer:
a) Push in knob and turn fully anti-clockwise.
3. To switchoff:
a) Push in knob and turn fully clockwise.
4. To light grill:
a) To light the grill the same action as thatdescribed above
should be carried out.
IMPORTANT: 1) ONLY USETHE COOKER WHENTHE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY.
2) ONLY USE COOKER AND GRILL WITH LID OPEN AND SPLASH PLATES
IN THE RAISED POSITION.
3) AFTERUSINGCOOKER ALLOW TO COOL BEFORECLOSING LIDAND
GRILL FLAP.
4) THE BURNERSSHOULDNEVER BE USED ASA SPACEHEATER.
5) ALWAYSENSURETHERE IS AMPLE VENTILATION WHEN USINGTHESE
APPLIANCES.
4) CARVERCASCADE 2GE WATER HEATER (OPTIONAL)
Water Heater. The optional Cascade 2 GE water storageheater hasa
six litre (1.3 gallon)capacity. The heater is installed through
theloweroffsidewall of the vehiclewithonly the flue cowl
visible. All the gas operationalparts are containedwithin a
single module. Control of the gas operation of the Cascade 2 GEis
made from the wall mounted remote control unit. This controller
contains both the working and spare 1 ampDC fuses. Onthe front
are the indicator lights which show the state of the heater. The
lights on this controller donot show that mains electricity is
being used.
The Cascade 2 GEmaybe used with mains electricity asan
alternative to the gas operation orin conjunctionwith the gasto
facilitate a faster warm up.The immersion element canbe used on
220 or240 volt 50HZand is rated at605and660 watt respectively.
The mains operationshould be via a double poleswitchedoutletwith
acontact gapofat least 3mmin each pole and fused at5 amp.
The temperature of the water of the gas operation maybe adjusted
and isset to give a water temperature of between 52°C to 70°C.
Two safetyfeatures are included onthe Cascade 2 GE thesebeing:
1) A pressure relief valve which automatically opens if the
internal pressure exceeds 3 bar(44 p.s.i.) then closes when the
pressuredrops.
2) A manually resetable overtemperature trip thermostat which may
bereset by pressing the buttonthat passes through the plastic
housingcover of the 240 volt components. Access to this button is
through the hole in the rearpanel of the cupboard that houses the
gas isolation taps.

Operating Instructions.
1. BEFORESWITCHINGON.
a. Ensure that thegastothe heater is turned onand that the
system is full of water ie. a constantflow of water from the
hot tap.
b. Check that the12 volt supply is connected and switched on.
DONOTusea batterycharger asthe onlysource of supply.
2. TOLIGHTTHEHEATER.
a. Movethe slide switch onthe controller downwards.
b. A continuous green light indicatesthat the heater is working
satisfactorily.
3. TOSWITCHTHEHEATEROFF.
a. Moveand slide switch upwards.
WINTERIZATION OFTHE WATER SYSTEM
Water Heater
IT IS MOST IMPORTANTTHATTHE WATER HEATERISDRAINEDIN ORDER TOAVOID
THE DANGER OFFROST DAMAGE.
Todrain the heater:
1) Ensure that thegas,12 volt and240 volt electrical supplies are
turnedoff.
2)Switch offthe water pump.
3) Openthehotand cold water taps inthe sink.
4) Removethe drainplug fitted inthe heater.This isthe large
slot-headedplug inthe bottom lefthandcorner ofthe outsidecowl.
When doing this careshould be taken notto lose the smallrubber
'0' ring thatseals the drainplug.
5) When the heater is empty the drainplug and'0' ring should be
refitted. (Pleasenotethat it takes a considerablelength of time
to drain the water heater. At least six litres (1.3 gallons)should
drain from the system.)
Water System
The remainder ofthe water system should be drained by:
1) Emptying the fresh water tank by opening the stop tap fitted tothe
tank.
2) Opening thehotand cold water taps inthe sink.
3)Turning onthe water pump.
4) Turn offthe water pump and stop tapinthe rear ofthe tank.
NOTE:ITISIMPORTANTTHAT WHEN THE WATER SYSTEMISDRAINEDTHATTHE

5) OPTIONALTHERMOSTATICALLY CONTROLLED BLOWN AIRHEATINGSYSTEM.
1) General. The Trident maybe fitted with the optional Propex 1600
Watt heater which is situated ina compartment atthe base ofthe
unit tothe rear ofthe toilet compartment. The heater isofthe
room sealed type, exhausting all products of combustion tothe
outside ofthe vehicle. This feature along withelectronic
ignition and flame failure protection system, ensures complete
safety of operation. Thegastapis situated inthe cupboard
adjacent tothe chemical toilet - lower centre tap.
2)Instructions forUse. Turn the thermostat tothe desired
temperature and switch the unit onbyuseofthe switch adjacent to
the temperature selection knob. Ifitisthe first time the unit
has been operated, ora gas cylinder has been changed, more than
one start cycle maybe necessary to purge air from the pipework.
Simply turn heater off then on again. The heater will then
continue to operate automatically onthe thermostat. The control
unit is provided with two indicator lights so that the following
conditions canbe recognized.
Burner On- That the unit is switched onand operating
correctly.
Lock Out- That a fault has occured andthe unit will not
attempt to restart until action is taken to check
the system andthe switchrecycled.
3) Fresh Air Operation. The unit maybe operated ona coldaircycle
byswitching the rocker switch onthe unitcontrol panel, found on
theoffside pelmet, tothe freshair mode (marked with fan symbol).
4) Inhot weather conditions, the unit may start automatically; this
is part ofthe self cooling system and thus should notbe cause for
concern.
6) REFRIGERATOR
a) General. The Electrolux RM212F refrigerator canbe operated byany
one of three power sources:
(1) Electrical 12 volt; available only when engine is running.
(2) Electrical 220/240 volt; available whenon site.
(3) LPGas.
b)Level. When the refrigerator is operating,refrigerant trickles
through the coolingunit under the influence of gravity. To enable
asatisfactory flow to take place, the unit mustbe level in both
directions, otherwise refrigerant can accumulate in pockets andthe
cooling process impaired. When your Auto-Sleeper is stationary for
more than half an hour, with the refrigerator inuse,itmustbe
levelled in both directions so that theice trayshelfinside the
frozen food storage compartment is level.
c)Starting the Refrigerator. Before using the refrigerator forthe
first time, itis advisable towashthe interior and accessories as
described later under 'Cleaning'.

d) Bottled Gas Operation - Lighting the Burner.
(1) See that the voltageselectionswitch (right hand rocker
switch on panel) issetat'0', ie. in itscentre position.
(2) Turn ongas isolation tap (topmost tap) in floor cupboard
below sink unit.
(3) Turn thegas control knob so that the number '3'is opposite
theindicator mark.
(4)Switch onred electronic ignition switch which will begin to
flash.
(5)Press ingas control knob.
(6) Whengasis lit, electronic ignition switch will stop
flashing.
(7) Leave electronic ignition switch inON position, to enable
fridge to relight in case ofgas flame becoming extinguished.
e) Electrical Operation.
12 VoltOperation
1. Ensure gasis switchedoff.
2. Turn rockerswitch to position marked with a battery
symbol.
3. Turn on switch on electrical controlpanel.
4. Switch on vehicle ignition and start engine, the
refrigerator will nowbe working on12 volts.
240VoltOperation
1. Ensure gasis turnedoff.
2. Turn rockerswitch to position marked with site lead symbol.
3. Ensure mains hook-up is connected.
4. Turn on240 volt RCCD (which isinthe'UP' position).
5. Turn on5 ampMOB (which isinthe'UP' position).
6. Turn temperature control knob to required setting.
f) UsefulTips
(1) Itis important to note that the12 volt operation is only
intended tobe used whilst the engine is running andthe
vehicle battery is being charged, and thus for 12 volt
operation the refrigerator is wired through the vehicle
ignition switch.
(2) Whenat rest formore than a shortperiod the vehicleshould
be levelled andthe refrigerator switchedeither togasor
mains voltage.
(3) When operating on mains voltage, the temperature inthe
refrigerator is thermostaticallycontrolled andcanbe
adjusted by means ofa thermostat knob.
(4)During 12 volt operation the refrigerator isnot
thermostatically controlled andthe coolingunit will operate
all the time the refrigerator is connected to12 volt source
andswitched on.12 volt operationis,thereforeonly
intended tobe used for relatively shortperiods, ie;when the
vehicle isin motion. Itisnot intended for extended periods
of use from a 12 volt supply,otherwise the freshfood
compartment may become too cold for satisfactory storage of
frozen foods and drinks.

g) Temperature Regulation
(1)After starting the refrigerator, it will take about one hour
beforethere are signs of cooling. When operating on mains
voltage electricity, the refrigerator is thermostatically
controlled andthe thermostat knob should be turned to number
'3' or'4' setting. This will maintain a suitable temperature
in the refrigerator and frozenfood compartment for general
use butinhot weather, or ifmore cooling is required, the
knob should be turned toa higher number. Alternatively, if
less cooling is required, the knob should be turned toa lower
number. (Note:This does not apply to12 volt operationwhich
is not thermostatically controlled).
(2) For operation on gas, the refrigerator should be started off
with thegas control setat'3'. This will bea suitable
temperature inthe refrigerator in warm weather but if the
fresh food compartment becomes too cold, especially in cooler
weather, turn thegas control knob to'2'or'1'.
h)TravelCatch
(1) The travel catch isto keep the refrigerator door securely
closed when the vehicle isonthe move.Remember always to
push the catch down so thatitslower end fully engages the
plastic bush inthetopofthe door before moving off.
i) Defrosting
(1)Frost will gradually form onandinthe frozenfoodstorage
compartment andonthe fins atthe side of this compartment.
The refrigerator, thereforeshould be defrosted regularly,
about once every week orten days depending onthe conditions
of use.
(2) To defrost,turn thegas control knob orthe voltageselector
switch to'0', depending on which operation is being used.
Remove the ice tray and content ofthe refrigerator, wrap
frozen food in severallayers of clean newspaper and place the
package ina coolplace.
(3) To defrost as quickly as possible, a smalldish ofhot(not
boiling) water maybe placed onthe ice trayshelf anda bowl
of hot water onthe cabinet shelf, changing thehot water as
necessary until the frost has melted.
(4) Note: Donot placedishes ofhot water onthe bottom ofthe
frozen foodstorage compartment anddonot attempt to defrost
more quicklywith an electric fire or other forms of heat as
this may damage the plastic surface.
(5)Defrosted water will run via a tube atthe back ofthe
refrigerator into the drip collector fixed tothe rear ofthe
refrigerator where it will evaporate into the circulating air.
When all the frost has melted, wipe drythe frozenfoodstorage
compartment and cabinet interior, then restart the refrigerator
setting thegas control knob or voltageselectorswitch and
thermostat knob to their respectivepositions.
(6) Replace the fresh and frozenfood but wait until the cabinet
hascooled down before making ice. Remember thatif the
temperature ofthe frozenfood is allowed to rise unduly during
defrosting, itsstorage life maybe shortened.

j) Cleaning the Refrigerator
(1) Clean therefrigerator thoroughly at intervals when necessary.
Turn offthe gasor disconnect from the electricity supply
depending on which is being used, empty the cabinet and
defrost.
(2) The refrigerator and itsaccessories may then be cleaned with
soft cloth soaked ina weak solution of bicarbonate of soda.
Finally wipe over with a cleancloth. Donot wash any plastic
partsin water that is more than hand hotanddonot expose
them todry heat. Never use strong chemicals or abrasive
cleaningmaterials onany part of therefrigerator.
k) When NotInUse
(1) Whenever the refrigeratoris tobeoutofuse for a period,
turnoffthegas, or disconnect from the electricity supply as
applicable. Empty the cabinet and defrost. Clean and
thoroughly dry allaccessories and leave the door open. Empty
and drythe icetray.
1) Maintenance. For details of maintenance, see manufacturers
instructions.
m ) Electrolux Winter Covers
Winter covers aretobe used only under the following
circumstances:
(1) When washing thevehicle.
(2) When the vehicle isin storage.
(3) When the temperature outsidethevehicleis below freezing.
Winter covers arenottobe used under any other circumstances and
never when the refrigerator isin operation on eithergas, 12 volt
or 240 volt.
IMPORTANT. FOR SAFETY REASONS DONOTUSEGAS APPLIANCES WHILE THE
VEHICLE ISIN MOTION.
THE REFRIGERATOR ELECTRONIC IGNITION MUST BE SWITCHED OFFWHENTHE
VEHICLE ISIN MOTION AND WHILST ITIS BEING REFUELLED. WHEN
DRIVING THE REFRIGERATOR SHOULD BE OPERATED ONLY ON12 VOLT DC.
7) ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
12Volt
The electrical supply for the internal lighting, water pump andthe12 volt
circuit for the refrigerator is taken from the vehiclebatterywith the
refrigerator wired separately and controlledvia a relay through the
ignition switch. A second battery maybe fitted asan optionalextra in
which case a split charge relayis wired between the batteries to prevent
thevehiclebattery from becoming discharged.
240Volt
240volt mains supply isavailablefor the operation of therefrigerator
and 13amp plugonly. An external socket islocated atthe rearoffside of
thevehiclefor use with mains hook-up.
Electrical Components
(1)Battery. The vehiclebattery is located under the bonnet. When a
second batteryis fitted, to petrol engined vehicles this is
positioned next to thevehiclebattery. In the case of diesel models
the main vehiclebattery is found under the bonnet whilstthe second
battery is located atthe rear of thevehicle in the lower luggage
compartment.

Internal Lighting.
a)Double filament 16w fluorescent lights are fitted inthe following
positions:
1) In forwardarea of high top roof.
2) In central area of high top roof.
3) At rear ofthe vehicle onthe underside of upper bed assembly.
b) One12 volt 13 watt light is fitted onthe pelmet rail onthe
centre offside ofthe vehicle.
c)Beforechangingtubesdisconnect battery.
d)Fluorescenttubesshould be replaced as follows:
1)Double filament 16 watt lights. The light mounting must first
be removed and then the four screws onthe rear side ofthe light
body removed to give access tothe tubes,having first
disconnected the battery.
2) Single filament 12 volt 13 watt light. Carefully slide off
the endofthe light unit and slide outthe diffuser. This
will give access tothe tube allowing it tobe changed.
e) Two internal courtesy lights are fitted, oneatthe centre front
of thecab roof, the other above the pelmet above the entrance of
the side sliding door. For details ofhowto remove these lights
in the event of bulb failure refer tothe Volkswagen instruction
manual.
Water Pump.The water pump fitted tothe Trident istobe found in
the rear ofthe cupboardhousing the chemical toilet. Access tothe
pumpis through an easily removeablepanel atthe rear ofthe
cupboard. The watersystem maybe operated by switching onthe over
ride switch found inthe electrical control panel, and thereafter
controlling the flow of water, andthe operation ofthe water pump,by
means ofthe water faucet. The water pump, which isofthe triple
diaphramtype, is protected bythe10amp fusefound inthe electrical
control panel.
ELECTRICAL CONTROL PANEL.
a. The electrical control panel is situated ina panel above the
kitchen storage locker. It should be noted that the following fuses
protect the circuits below;
Fuse No1 (10amp) Lighting Circuit
Fuse No2 (10amp) Water Pump.
Fuse No3 (2amp) Refrigerator ignition and water
gauge.
Fuse No4 (10amp)12 volt socket outlet.
Fuse No5 (10amp) PropexHeater (Optional).
Fuse No6 (5amp) Carver Cascade gas ignition (Optional).
b.ApplianceLoading

d.BatteryConditionIndicator Lights. In order to check the battery
condition, press the water gauge button 'READ'andthe battery
condition indicator lights will illuminate. Readings should be
interpreted as follows:
(1) Green - Battery is fully charged - 12to14 volts.
(2) Red- Batteryrequiresrecharging - level has reached
11 volts and rechargingshouldtakeplace as soon as
possible.
e. 12 VoltMasterSwitch.This maybe used to isolate the caravan
electrical system except the refrigerator 12 volt system which operates
independentlythrough the vehicle ignition switch.
f. Water Pump MasterSwitch.This maybe used to isolate the water
pump.It should be switchedoff whenthe water pump isnotinuse.
Dryrunning maynot blow the fuse butcan cease the water pump.
g. 12 VoltSocketOutlet.Thissocketshould be used onlywith the
plug supplied. Itis suitable for only 12 volt DC operation uptoa
maximumof10amps. When connecting the12 volt plug it should be
notedthat the centreterminal is POSITIVE andthe outerterminal
NEGATIVE.
h. Water LevelIndicator. In order to check the water level gauge in
thefresh water tank,press the push button which will give an
illuminated reading onthe dial showing the state ofthe water level.
In order to calibrate the water level gauge, fill the water tank fully,
thenpress and hold READ button setting the indicator tothe FULL
position.
8) BATTERY/SECONDBATTERY
Both the vehiclebattery and optional second battery when fitted are
fusedwith a 20amp bladefuse. It should be notedthat this fuse
protects the12 volt circuit tothe electrical control panel and
caravan electrics only.Thisfuse is fitted adjacent tothe positive
terminal ofthe vehiclebattery/secondbattery. When a second battery
is fitted, a 30amp bladefuse is fitted between the vehiclebattery
and the second battery in order to protectagainstoverloading ofthe
second batterycharging system.
IMPORTANT:THESEFUSERATINGS MUST BEADHEREDTO WHEN REPLACEMENTSARE
NEEDED.
7) OPERATIONANDMAINTENANCEOFOPTIONAL SECOND BATTERY
1)General• The second battery is charged viathe main vehicle
battery bythe engine alternator. Wired between the batteries isa
70 amp relay which, whenthe engine is running,allows a charging
current to pass tothe second battery. When the ignition is turned
off, the relay cutsthus isolating the second battery from the main
vehicle battery. When the second battery is fitted, all auxilary
equipment fitted by Auto-Sleepers is wiredthrough it thusensuring
the main battery remains charged.
2) Maintenance. Terminalsshould be periodically cleaned and greased.
The anchorage ofthe second batteryshould be regularly checked for
security.
NOTE. Auxiliary electrical equipment such as radios and courtesy
lights are wiredthrough the main vehiclebattery.
8) a)240 Volt AC Mains Hook-Up.The mains circuit is protected byan
RCCD (ResidualCurrent Circuit Device) andtwoMCB's (Minature
Circuit Breakers) These units are co-located andare found onthe
in the cupboard adjacent tothe chemical toilet.
