1.3. Safety precautions
A number of safety precautions are necessary before using this
appliance in order to avoid undesired side effects:
• Do not use Radiance 200 on dark skin. Treating dark skin can lead to
side effects such as burns, blisters or changes to skin colour (hyper-
or hypo-pigmentation).
• Do not use on skin which is tanned or has recently been exposed to
the sun!
• Do not expose yourself to sunlight without protection:
- during the 4 weeks prior to treatment
- during the 2 weeks following treatment

9
• “Exposing yourself to sunlight without protection” means exposing
yourself to direct sunlight for a continuous period of fifteen minutes
or exposing yourself to indirect sunlight continuously for an hour.
• If you are exposed to sunlight, you must use adequate protection,
such as a garment or sunscreen (with SPF over 50), which must be
used regularly for the 3 weeks before and after treatment.
• Warning: You must also follow exactly these same instructions if you
are exposed to UV light on a sunbed.
• Do not use if you have applied any self-tanning cream to your skin.
You should allow for the tanning effect of the cream to disappear
completely before using this appliance.
• Do not use on or around your eyes as this can cause serious eye
injuries. This appliance is not suitable for depilating eyelashes and
eyebrows. Never look directly into the light pulses. Keep well away
from your eyes! Wear the protection goggles included throughout
your treatments.
• Do not treat the same area of skin more than once per session! Do
not overlap the light pulses!
• If any burns or blisters appear, stop using immediately!
• Ensure you cover up any birthmarks, tattoos, sun spots, freckles,
birthmarks, warts or growths before using this appliance.

at a later stage.
• Do not use for any purpose other than depilation.
• Never point the application to send a light pulse into an open space.

10
Only aim the treatment surface towards the skin. The application
surface must be in full contact with the surface of the skin before
releasing a light pulse.
• Warning: hot surfaces. Do not touch the application surface with
your fingers. You should also ensure you keep the application surface
clean. (refer to the ‘Cleaning’section for further information).

2. How Radiance 200 works
Radiance 200 from BaByliss is a personal depilator that uses IPL
(intense pulsed light) for easy and sustained removal of unwanted
hair.

11
2.1. IPL technology
Using IPL technology, Radiance 200 painlessly removes hair by
emitting pulsed light. The pulsed light targets the pigment present
in the hair (melanin) to get through to the root and prevent the hair
from growing back. Therefore, the more melanin the hair contains
(i.e. the darker the hair colour), the more light the hair can absorb and
the more conclusive the results will be. IPL technology has been used
widely by professionals for more than 15 years and clinical studies
have proven that it is effective and safe.
2.2. Hair growth cycle
The hair growth cycle plays a key part in the process of IPL depilation.
Therefore, it is important to understand how the full hair growth cycle
works in order to achieve lasting results.
The hair growth cycle consists of three successive phases:
• Growth
• Transition
• Resting
18 to 24
months
Growth
Resting Transition

12
The full hair growth cycle lasts on average between 18 and 24 months.
Most hairs are either resting or transition phases.
Radiance 200 has no effects on hairs in these phases. IPL is only
effective, however, on hairs in the growth phase. Therefore, multiple
treatments are required to be effective on all of the hairs and to
achieve lasting results.
2.3. Planning treatments
You should plan your treatments. We recommend you follow the
following schedule which has delivered excellent results:
• The first 4 treatments should be 2 weeks apart.
• The following treatments should be 4 weeks apart (until the desired
result is achieved).
• If hair grows back subsequently, you will then use the appliance
on an occasional basis to achieve lasting results, ensuring at least 4
weeks between the treatments.

Note:
• Treating the same area more than once in a two-week period
does not improve results and risks having undesired effects. 7
to 8 treatments performed once every year is sufficient for very
satisfactory results.
• It is recommended that you use Radiance 200 with moderation, i.e.
not repeating the treatment with Radiance 200 indefinitely.
N.B.: Hormonal factors and physiological changes can cause resting hairs
to become active. Maintenance treatments can be performed (with at
least 4 weeks between the treatments).

N.B.: The dierent operating modes (Glide and Precision) are explained in
section 4.1.
2.5. Results to expect
The effectiveness can vary:
• from person to person,
• depending on the treatment area,
• depending on the colour of the hair.
Note: IPL is not effective on white, grey or light-blonde hair. White,
grey and light-blonde hair has a small melanin content so will not
respond sufficiently to pulsed light treatment.
N.B.:
- It is quite common for hair to seem to continue growing for one or two
weeks after a treatments (this is called ejection). However, after two
weeks you will see these hairs fall out or detach themselves from the
follicles. We advise you against plucking hairs out. Let hairs fall out
naturally.

15
- It is possible for some hairs to grow back lighter and ner than
before, following a IPL depilation session. This phenomenon has been
extensively documented by beauticians and doctors who use pulsed
light devices for depilation treatments.

2.7. Eye protection device
Thanks to built-in eye protection, Radiance 200 only releases light
pulses when the application surface is entirely in contact with the skin.
Please wear the protective goggles provided throughout your
depilation sessions with Radiance 200.
3. Before using
3.1. Selecting the level of intensity
48.2
Radiance 200 features 5 levels of intensity, running from the lowest
(level 1) to the highest (level 5). The level of intensity indicates the
intensity of the pulsed light applied to the skin.
To select the required level of intensity for your own skin, follow these
steps:

17
A. Which skin tone are you?
It is important to work out your skin tone using the table below to
determine which light intensities are most suitable for your skin and
body hair color.
N.B.:
• Each body area may require a dierent light intensity according to
the table below. This unit is more eective at the higher intensities,
but you should reduce the light intensity if you experience any pain or
discomfort.
Note: In order to use Radiance 200 safely, the light intensity table
must, be used in conjunction with the instructions given in this
instruction manual. Selecting the wrong level of intensity can lead to
side effects.

18
Skin Types suitable for Radiance 200
People with light blonde, red or white hair must not use this appliance.
People with very brown or black skin must not use this appliance.
B. Performing a test
48 hours before the first use, you should perform a test with Radiance
200 on one leg (a few light pulses), selecting intensity level 1
regardless of your skin type.
C. Select the required level of intensity for your skin type
If your skin responds to the test correctly, and if you have still not
experienced any abnormal reaction or discomfort after 48 hours
following the test, you can gradually increase the level of intensity
during subsequent IPL treatments in line with the following guide:
For people with white skin:
• First treatment:
- set no higher than intensity level 1.
• Second and third treatments:
- if you did not experience any particular discomfort or pain
during the previous treatment, you can set intensity level 2
for the second treatment and intensity level 3 for the third
treatment.

19
• Fourth treatments and subsequent treatments:
- only if there have been no side effects whatsoever resulting
from the previous session, you can set intensity level 4 for
the fourth treatment and intensity level 5 for subsequent
treatments.
For people with beige skin or light brown skin:
• First treatment:
- set the appliance no higher than intensity level 1.
• Second treatment:
- if you did not experience any particular discomfort or pain
during the previous treatment, you can set intensity level 2.
• Third treatment and subsequent treatments:
- only if there have been no side effects whatsoever resulting
from the previous treatment, you can set intensity level 3
for the third treatment and MAXIMUM 4 for subsequent
treatments.
For people with medium brown and dark brown skin:
• First treatment:
- set the appliance no higher than intensity level 1.
• Second treatment:
- if you did not experience any particular discomfort or pain
during the previous treatment, you can set intensity level 2
for the second treatment.
• Subsequent treatments:
- only if there have been no side effects whatsoever resulting
from the previous treatment, you can set the intensity level
to MAXIMUM 3.
People with brown or black skin must not use the appliance.

20
N.B.: It is possible you may notice some dierent skin colours on your body,
because dierent areas of the body are exposed to sunlight in dierent
amounts. For example, skin on the arms, which are generally exposed to
the sun more, is darker than skin on the armpits. However, you are advised
against increasing the level of intensity to use Radiance 200 on lighter areas
of skin on your body. Increasing the level of intensity for the lighter areas of
skin on your body may give better results, but it also increases the likelihood
of discomfort and even side eects.
3.2. Preparing the skin
Before you use Radiance 200, your skin must be shaved (24 hours
beforehand), clean, dry and free from any residue of powder or
deodorant.
Warning: do not epilate (with an electric epilator, tweezers or waxing)
before using Radiance 200. Epilating removing hair from the root would
prevent intense pulsed light (IPL) treatment from having any effect.
3.3. Installation and start-up
1. Plug the adaptor cord into the socket on the appliance (which is
located on the round base of the device).
2. Plug the other end of the adapter into a power socket. The ON/OFF/
READY LED indicator will light up orange.
