aboutfunctionandoperationof yourfireplace insert, youwillincrease its valueanditsservice life. Also youcansavefuel andprotectthe
environment. Weareconvinced that yourfireplaceinsertwillbetoyourfullsatisfactionandgiveyoumany hours ofpleasure ifyoufollow the
advice and instructions inthis manual. AnEquipmentCertificateis included.
Weaskyoupleasetoread this manualas wellasthe instructionsforyourspecific modelbefore beginning the
installation.

Essentials requirements:
-Itis necessaryto ensurethat the whole unit with connecting piecesand chimneywill be safe during operation.The whole unit must besafe
and easytoclean.
-THE DATA OFSAFETYPRECAUTIONS FROMTHEPOINTOFVIEW OFFIRE PROTECTION INACCORDANCEWITH SN06
1008.
The fireplaceinsertmust be installed, sothat allrequireddemands of SN06 1008have beenkept.
-Beespecially careful tomaintaina minimum distance fromany combustible objects duringthefireplaceinstallation.
-The minimum safe distance fromcombustiblematerialwithcombustibilitydegree ofB,C1andC2ismin.200 mm.For acobmustibility
degree ofC3and for unsubtantiated combustibilitydegree inaccordance with nationaltechnicalstandards andregulations itis necessaryto
double the distance.
-The unitmaybeused inanormalenvironmentincompliance with national technicalstandardsandregulations. Whenthisenvironment
changes and there couldbe a temporaryfire or explosionrisk(e.g.at work with paintsubstances,at linoleum mounting, etc.)the unit must
be removedimmediately.
-Note:Thefireplace insert mustbe situated asafe distance from other domesticequipment.

Fireplace insertscanbepositioned onlyinroomsandinplaces which arerisk free.There mustbeany electric wires inwallsandinceilings
whereajacketedchimneyinsert isinstalled. Inrooms whereafireplace insert issituated theremust besufficient fresh-airinlet for combustion.
The basewherethe fireplaceinsert is situatedmustbe made and must belargeenough topermitthefirebox towork correctly.
Fireplaceinsertsmustnot be located:
-Onstairways (except houses whereamaximum oftwoflats aresituated)
-Oncorridorsopentothepublic
-Inrooms whereeasily combustible or explosive materials ormixtures are storedor manufactured
-Inflats or areas which are aired onlybymeans of ventilators or hot-airheatersorwhenthe safefunctionof anopenfire is not ensured. The
openfire operationisnotendangeredwhen:
- there isaircirculationonly inoneroom
- thereis safetyequipmentwhichcanreliablypresentavacuumarisinginaroomwhere thefireplaceissituatedeveninconnected
ventilationareas
- there isnoneed of air combustiblevolume for fireplace inserts andvetilator jet capacity.Evenif the facilityadjustingischanged there is
nearlynovaccum inareas where the fireplaceinsert issituatedandinconnectedairedareas.

Heatingoutput:
Bearinmind theinformationwritteninthe EquipmentCertificate.The heating potentialofthe firedepends ontheoutput stated.
Outputisapplicableto roomswhich correspondto theHeatSafetyProtectionregulations. Inrooms which aremore than200cubic metres it is
necessaryto count theheat consumption.
Fireplaceinsertlocationand combustionair inflow:
The area must beprovided with atleastonedoorwhichleadsinto anopenspace, orwithawindowwhich canbeopened, or itmust be
connectedwith otherrooms.Onlyroomsof the sameflator dwellingare counted. Ifthere isnot enough, theroomwhere the fireplaceinsertis
locatedmustbeprovided withacombustionair escape tubewhich leads intoanopenspace andsuppliesat least360cubic metres/hour
combustionair/1 squaremetreinto the firebox.Tootherfireboxesexceptthisatleast1.6 cubicmetresofcombustionair/hourandoneachkW
of totalnominalheatoutputwhenthe initial pressuredifference was 4 Pa as compared toanopenspaceareneeded(exceptfireboxes whichare
locatedinareasthatdo not dependonairina room,do not needa smokeflueorare locatedinareas where theoperatingsafetyof insertscannot
be endangered).
-Itis recomended that combustingairis supplied towardsa fireplaceina convectionarea
-Itis neccessaryto arrange tubingfor combusting air inbuildingswith more thantwo floors,as stipulated by localbuilding regulations, and
tubingsforcombustingair whichconnectantifirewalls,sothatfire and smoke cannot spreadintoother floorsor firecompartments.
Itisneccessaryto take deformationresistance into account during tubingbatching, ecpeciallyduringcurve, branch pipe or longpipe
installations.
Itis possible tousedatafromthe EquipmentCertificate whensettingthedimensionofcombusting air flowpiping
(inflowo fair/hour).
Askyourchimney sweep for expertassistance.
Adequate chimney:
Afireplace insert must beconnected into achimneyinaccordance with nationaltechnicalstandards andregulations. Connectionmust bedone
onlywitha chimneysweep´s permission.Thechimneymust bedirectly connected, dryandlinedwith fire-bricks.
Ifthe fireplace insert shouldbeconnected toachimneyalreadybuilt,it isneccesaryto cleanthe chimneyandachimneysweep must checkits
tightness and condition.Achimneysweep also checksifthe chimneyis suitable for fireplaceinsertconnection.Incases whenthe chimneydoes
not existoritisnot suitablethenew chimneydimensionsmust beaccordingto theEquipment Certificate. Loweffective heightlimitof astack
flueis 5mifcountedfromthedischarge ofcombustionproductsslot.Insingle cases itis possibletoconnectevento astack fluewithless
effective height than5m.Itmust be documented by a calculationof combustionproducts waythat thisheight is enough for the connection. The
fireplaceinsertmusthaveitsownchimney.
Chimneyparameters:
Chimney parametersin linewithEN 13384-1are foundinthe
EquipmentCertificate.
Ceiling(floor) protection:
Ceilings withoutasufficientlateral distribution(e.g. wooden
ceilings) mustbeprotectedby a6cmthick concretelayer and6cm
thick brickdamp coursewherethefireplace insert issituated.
Consulting a structuralengineer is recommended.Ifthe floor,where
thefireplaceinsertwillbesituated,hasanadequatelateral
distributiona 6cm thickbrickdamp courseis enough.
The floorinfront of the fireplaceinsert:
Afloor madeof combustiblematerialinfrontof thefireplaceinsert
must beprotectedby anadequate non-combustiblematerial layer.
Dimensions of this non-combustible area are at least: 800mm inthe
sidewaysdirectionof theopening side and400 mmto thefrontin
thedirectionoftheopening side.
The chimneyconnection:
Iftheexistingchimney is not provided with asuitableconnecting
fittingforthefireplaceinsert itis necessarytomakeanadditional
connection.The chimneyconnectionheight isarrived at the
properly situated fireplaceinsertandanattached smoke flueelbow
anda connectingfitting– measuredfromthe topedge of the support
plate tothe centreof theconnectingfittinginthe entrance of the
connectingarea.Gaps forthesurround, insulation,expansionjoint,
etc. must betakenintoaccount.
Brickveneerand thermalside and backwall insulation:
The brickveneer andthermal insulationcanbemade afterthe
fireplaceinsertinstallation.

Requiredbrickveneer and thermal insulation:
Minimalthermalinsulationof protectedbuilding panels was defined duringthe test of Blanzek fireplace insertsinaccordance with SN EN13
229. Duringthe test the thermalinsulationmade of cellular calcium-silicateslabswas used =250kg/m3.Itis neccessaryto use thiskindof
materialinthe prescribedminimal thickness.

Minimum distances of thefireplace insertfromthe inner sideofthe insulation:

1. Brickveneer: a10cmthick mineralbrick veneer must be made exactlyontheprotectedbuildingwall(back wall where appropriateside
wall). Thebrick veneer mustabutonto theinsulationlayer andonthe protected buildingside. Itmust over-lap theconnectingpiece
(venting) upwards by at least20cm. The insulationbrick veneer is not neccessarywhenthebuildingwallis 10 cm distant at leastandisnot
made ofcombustiblematerialand itis not astructuralconcrete-steel wall.
2. Ceilingof theroomabovetheinsert (brickveneerreplacement): iftheopenspace or the coatingabove theinsert extends to the room
ceiling, itisneccessaryto protect theceilingwhenit is made of combustible materialoritserves asacarryingelement. The protection
consists of a6 cm conductive(better is10cm)thick thermal insulationlayer (insulationmaterial index. 12.07.21.75.11 accordingto AGI
Q132).Itisrecommended to takethis preventivemeasure as abase intermediate floor e.g.made of sheet-metal)withtheinsulation
material situatedaboveit.
3. Thermal insulation: convectioncoatingand convectionaccessplate (exogenous
profileofthefacility)need to becoated fromall quartersby thethermalinsulation
layer. Thethermal insulationmust be without jointsand mustover-lap each other
onthe sides. Ifthese insulatingboardsarenot fixedonwalls, oncoatingoron
abutting boards, it is neccessaryto fix themcca30cmapart. The coating inwards
theroom(aperture)doesnotneed tobe insulatedwhentheinsertis designed in
such awaythat thecoating surfaceand thesurfaceof the wood storingchamber
couldreachatemperature of85°Celsius. Forsurfaces made of mineral construction
material, exceptfor theareaswhereobjectscould be detached, the temperatureis
120°Celsius. Thermalinsulationlayers madeofrock woolorcomparablematerial
mustbe thoroughlycoatedfromtheroomside and convectionairarea as a
protectionagainst fibre fraying.
4. Iftheconnectingpiece goes through the partswith combustiblematerials (e.g.
protectivewall), it isnecessaryto keepinstructionsincompliancewith national
technicalstandards andregulations.Infireplace insertswhicharenot provided by
thebutterflyvalveexactlyinthebellmouth,itispossiblke toputapartwith a
butterfly valve(3) betweenthe fireplaceinsert(1)andtheconnectingpiece (2).
The partmustbeprovided by ascrewtoprotectitagainstsliding.Thevalveshaft
goesthroughthewall bushing (4).Theshaftmustnot beblocked.
Permitedthermalinsulationmaterialandmaterialfor brickveneers (minimal
requirements)
1. Thermalinsulation:cellular calcium-silicate slabs =250kg/m3,mineral wool
boards, ceramics fibreboards.
2.Brickveneer and surround: Liapor,bricks,concrete,no-fines concrete,stone.
3. Alternatebrick veneers andthermalinsulationmaterial:must beauthorized.They
must also fulfilleveryrequirementfor thermalinsulationandsurrounds.Further
informationabouttheseconstructionmaterialscanbeobtained from specialshops.
Connectionofthefireplace insert:
The fireplace insert canbe connected withthe chimneybyconnecting pieces. The insert
isconnectedtothe chimneyairchannelby a steel smokefluewitha maximum length of
1.5m. Theremustbe asafetypinonthe smoke flue bellmouth topreventslippage.

It isnotallowedto putanyotherattachment which isnot approvedbythemanufacturerintothe chimney
connection.Thefireplace insertswiththe valveand withthe lift-up door must belined, sothat servicecontrols and
mendingscanbedone.
Convectionairholes:
In the top partof the surround unclosed convection airholes for a convectionairventareneccessary,inthe bottom partof the surround, air input
isneccessary. The minimaldiameters are specifiedintheEquipmentCertificate.
After thefireplace installationneither the airinput northeair vent canberestrictedby building panels.
Topreventheat accumulationtheholesmustbeopenduring heating.No lockable grates,ribs, blinds,etc.canbeinstalled intothe
holes.Inthe toppart the convectioncoatingmust befinished by thepartitionwall abovetheholesoasnottomake athermalpocket(see
surround diagram).
Convectioncross-sectionbetweenthe insertandthe coating aswell astheinsulationonthe rearside:
Minimum distance betweenthefireplace insertand thelateralcoating madeofnon-combustiblematerial: 50-80mm (inaccordance with the
EquipmentCertificate).
The lateral faceofthedoor frame cantouch thethermalinsulationinfront.
Minimum range betweenthefireplaceinsertand thebackinsulation,respectively the wallmadeofnon-combustible material:80mm.
Note:Theseminimal distancesmustbekept toonallheightsandwidths ofthe fireplace insertso asto allow
convectionairto flowthrough.
Convectionair area:
Aprefabricated area forconvectionairisnot used(lining madeof agalvanized sheet),it
isneccessaryto maintainadistance of80mm betweenthe fireplace insert andrear
thermal insulationlayer.
The fireplaceinsert assembly:
The fireplaceinsert canbeplaced onafittedbase after themakingof the thermal
insulationas inthe installationinstructions. The fireplaceinsert isconnected withthe
chimneybythe connectingpiece (smokeflue).
Extensionjoint:
Itisneccessarytohave anextensionjoint atleast 3 mm thick betweenthe insert andthe
coating. (For inserts withalift-updoor 5mmis preferable). Theextensionjointcanbe
sealedby aropeorsealing tape.
Coating (fireplacesurround):
The coatingof the fireplace insert which leads into the roommust bemade of non-
combustible materialofgrade A(e.g. tiles, plaster coat, ironor ceramictiles). There
must not be any direct contactbetweenthecoatingandthefireplace insert.The
coatingmayover-laponlyontheseparate carryingframewhich is clamped to the wall.
Formaintenance andpossible repairsitis necessarytoprovide thesurroundwith
service holes.
Ornamentalbeams:
Ornamentalbeams areallowedinfrontof thefireplacecoatingat adistance of1cmat
least iftheornamentalbeamisnotapartof thebuildingandthe intermediatespace is
such thatit doesnotaccumulate heat and theornamental beamisnotsituated withintheareaofthe insertheat radiation.
Fireprotectionina heat radiationarea:
Aminimum distance of80cmforwards and sideways must be retained infrontof thefirebox hole (1).
Iftheprotectionagainst heatradiationisfromboth sides, adistance of40 cmis enough (2).
Fireprotectionabove aheatradiationarea:
Aminimumdistance of 5 cmfromtheouterspaceofthe insertcoatingtonon-combustible buildingpanelsmust beretained. Airspacemust be
clear soas not toaccumulate heat(3).Buildingpanelscoveringonlysmall coatedareas ofthefireplaceinsert,e.g.floors,wall coatingand
thermal insulationlayers mayabutonto thecoating(4).Widercombustible building panels,e.g.ornamentalbeams, maybeat adistance of 1 cm
fromtheinsertcoating(seeOrnamental beams).

Suitablefuel:
Fireplace insertscanbe operated onlywith the followingfuel:
-Drywoodenlogs
Combustionair input:
Itis neccessarytosupply asufficientamountofexternalair intotheroomwhen
using the fire. Both openandclosed fireplaces require anadequateamountof fresh
air.The stepsforcombustionairinput cannot be changed and combustionairinputs
must be openduringthe working operationof thefirebox.
Convection air:
Topreventheat accumulationtheincomingandoutgoinggratesof convectionair
must beopenwhenusingthe fire.Atleast oneorifice into theroom mustbeopen.
Alldistributionswhich aresituated besidesthe surroundmust beisolated by reason
of warmairloss preventionandfire safety.The spacebetweenthe insulationand
thecoating mustbe providedwitha holefor ventilationof min.area800 cm2.
Fireprotectionabove aheatradiationarea:
Noitemsmadeof combustible materialareallowedto be putwithin adistance of5cmfrom thefire.
Fireprotectionina heat radiationarea:
Nocombustible material(e.g.furniture, carpets,plants,etc.)is allowedtobeputinfrontof, orattheside ofthe fire
withina distance of80cm.
Protection against fireinjuries:
Do not forget thatheatershave hotsurfaces.Usetheenclosed protectiveglove whenworkingwiththefire.Youcould beina heatradiationarea
onlyduringmending, andif thereis further contacttheskincanbe burnt. Keep thefireplace out ofthe reachofchildren.
Applicationand activation:
Acceptable fuel,economicalandecologicaloperation:
The fireplace insertisdesigned to use wood as fuel.The water contentismax. 30% of dryweight.Logs shouldbestored inadryandwell
ventilated place fortwoyears.Usingexcessively wet logs leads tosmoke with atar condensationwhich could damage the chimney.Inanycase
thereis excessiveenviromnentalpollution.Logsshouldbe between30–50cm.
Wood is averygaseousfuelandneeds alot ofsecondaryair. Regulationwiththehelpof sloworpermanentburningisnotpossible withthis
kindof fuel.Heatingoutputduringwood burningis determined bythe amountof the fuelused.The mostecological and economicalis drywood
burning because theheating qualityof freshwoodis lowerthanthat ofdry wood.

Asforburningwaste,itmustbestressed thatburningmaterialsuch as cardboard,painted wood, etc.are harmful for yourfireplaceinsertand
furthermoreis prohibitedby theEmissionAct. It isallowed touse firelighters, paper and smallwoodfor lighting a fire only.
Donotusecombustible liquid e.g. petrol, alcohol forlightingafireand donot storesimilarkindsof liquidnearyour
fireplace insert.
Thefirstlighting:
The fireplace insert should start withasmall fireat firstsoasnot toharmitby veryfast temperaturerise. Smokeand the smellofburning which
mayappearduring the first lighting of afireis a resultofcoatingthermal curing. The roomshould be wellaired duringheating.
Checkif allremovableparts ofthefireplace(block,deflector,grate andashhole)arein theright position–in
accordancewiththe EquipmentCertificate.
Lighting a fire:
Openthe butterflyvalve(pull the connectingrod onthe righttop sideoftheframeawayfromthefireplaceinsert.The butterflyvalveof
fireplace insertswithalift-updoor is openedbyahandlesituatedonthe frontof the surround. The butterfly valve isopenifthe handlepoints
upwards.( Stokingafireplace insert is operatedthrough afirebox door. At first bankup the fire with2or 3smaller logs(space needed 0.5–1
kg) onthe bottomof thefireboxorthegrate thensomepaper, paperboardorfirelighter, thenwoodchips andfinallysmallpieces ofwood.It is
neccessarytoopenthe moveable valveas faraspossible. Now let the fireburn.Leave thedoor ofthe firebox openslightly afterlightingafire.
This will stop theglasssootingduringlightingafire. Whenthe fire isburningwell,add afewsmaller logs. Shutthefirebox door20–30
minutesafterlightinga fire.
Flat firebox:
Your fireplace insert isprovided with a flat firebox.Thismeansthat itis possibletoput onlyonelayer offuel onthecinder layer. Note
that heating outputis directly influenced bytheamount,kind and size ofwood. If youadd toomuch wood, the fireplace insertcanbe
heatedtotemperatures greaterthanallowedforintheconstructionplan.Asaresultthefireplace insert,other parts ofthefireplace orthe
buildingitself canbe damaged.Donotadd tothe cinder layer more fuel thanisrecommended.
Theoptimumamountof fuelis recommendedinthe EquipmentCertificate.
Airinputsetting duringhands-offoperation:
Blanzek fireplace insertsareprovided with aregulableair flapvalve. Required combustionaircomesasprimaryairthrough thegrate and
branch channels andalsoas clearingairabovethe firebox door. For long-term use itispossibleto close thebutterflyvalve, nearly close the
primaryair inputand openthesecondaryairvalve.
Fuel addition:
Apart from using the suitable fueland havingan adequate chimneydraught, theclearness ofthe glass front is influenced by the way thefireplace
isused.Itisrecommended toaddonlyonelayerof fuelandit is neccessarytomakesurethat thebutterfly valveisopenbeforeyouopenthe
door.If itisclosed it isneccessary toopenit (seeLighting a fire).
About5–10 seconds before you openthe firebox door youshouldclose thedischargevalveof the primaryair input (left-on, right-off)to stop
smokeleakage fromthefireboxtotheroom.Afteradditingfuelclosethefirebox dooragain.Thenopenallthe dischargevalves toreduce the
rate offuel burning.Whenfuel burns,change the regulating againas above.
Openfires:
Open fires needto beconstantlysupervised!
Add only onefuellayer into the fireboxso as not tooverhangthe block initsfrontpart. The butterfly valve must beopen.
Add onlytherecommended amountoffuel.The fireplace mustnot runonanyotherkindof fuel.
Removal of ash:
Atleastonce a dayitisneccessarytoremoveash,with the help of a clinkeringbar,throughthe grate into the ash trayand discharge it. The best
time isinthe morningbecause ofthe relatively cold stateof the fireplace.Emptytheash traywhenitishalf full. It is possible toput woodenash
ona compost ortouse it as manure.

the deflector.The deflector canberemoved duringclearing. Putit back afterthe clearing. Anash-collectingfanis goodfor theflue-gas
installationclearing. Stainingof the glass doorcanberemoved by usingwarmwaterandsoap or using everyday window cleaner. (Do not use
anycleaners withanabrasiveaction!)
