specifically for different purposes, which are described as
follows:
When you first set up your nScreen, you may want to find more
information on setups. Refer to the user manual that is supplied
with your operating system, or search from Help and Support
in the Start menu in Windows XP.
In this book, the steps needed to reach a menu are shown in
condensed form, for example: Start > Help and Support.

Package contents
Before using your nScreen for the first time, please check if you
have all the items with you. For details about what should be
included in the package, refer to the Product Specification label
on the product carton. If any of the items are missing or appear
damaged, contact your dealer immediately. Save the packaging
in case you need to ship your nScreen for service.
Getting your nScreen ready for
use
1. Attaching the monitor base
Place the monitor base on a flat, stable surface. Connect the
monitor to the monitor base until it locks into place (with two
clicks). Note that there is one direction only to make the
connection. Incorrect direction will cause damage to the device.
Depending on the model of your nScreen, the appearance
may be different from the illustrations shown in this manual.
You should position the monitor and angle the screen to
minimize unwanted reflections from other light sources.
If you want to detach the monitor base, refer to "Detaching the
monitor base" on page 7.

2. Connecting the power
a. Connect the power cord to the power adapter.
b. Connect the power adapter to the power jack on your
nScreen.
c. Connect the power cord to a power outlet. The
nScreen is then supplied normally with power.
3. Connecting the keyboard
Connect the provided keyboard to a USB port to input text.
Power systems and plug types may vary depending on your
country/region.
Note that there is one direction only to make the connection.
Incorrect direction will cause damage to the device.

4. Connecting the mouse
Connect the provided mouse to a USB port to perform
navigation, scrolling, and selection functions.

6. Performing initial setup
Press the Power button to start up your nScreen, the Power
button indicator lights up in green. You can then follow the on-
screen instructions to complete the initial setup.
Turning your nScreen off
To turn your nScreen off, do one of the following.
• Click Start > Shut Down.
• Press the Power button, and select Shut Down.
• Your nScreen i91/i221 series work best with the operating
system pre-installed for you. Installing other operating
systems that have not been tested is not recommended, and
may not only void your warranty but also affect the
functionality of your nScreen.
• The actual operating system that comes with your nScreen
may vary. For details, refer to the Product Specification label
on the product carton.
• For details about the colors and meanings of the indicator,
refer to "Power button indicator" on page 13.

Detaching the monitor base
In case that you need to detach the base from the monitor, refer
to the following procedures.
1. Shut down your nScreen completely. Disconnect the power
adapter.
2. Turn the nScreen upside down with the display faces
forward, and place it on a soft clean cloth. Be sure that the
top of monitor is leaned against the wall and the back is also
supported to prevent from moving or falling.
3. Press the locking clips at the bottom of the monitor base to
detach the base from the monitor stand arm, and while
keeping the locking clips unlocked, pull the base out.
To prevent from damaging or falling the monitor, it is
recommended to have someone else to assist and hold the
monitor for you while detaching the base in Step 3.

Expanding the capabilities of your nScreen
Connect USB peripherals to the USB port of your nScreen. Note
that there is one direction only to make the connection.
Incorrect direction will cause damage to the device.
Insert a Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SD, or MMC
memory card following the direction indicated on the card to
exchange files.
Connect an earphone to the audio output jack to output
sounds.
Connect a microphone to the microphone input jack to record
sounds.

Access local area network (LAN) by connecting a network cable
to the LAN port of your nScreen.

Adjusts the brightness of the display.

(1) Vents
Dissipates heat and keeps your nScreen at an
optimal temperature.
To prevent overheating, do not obstruct the vents. For
example, do not use the nScreen in bed where a
blanket may inadvertently cover the vents and block
the airflow.

(2) Four-in-One memory card slot
For a Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, SD, or
MMC memory card.
(3) USB ports
Connects peripherals such as mice, digital
cameras and MP3 players that use the USB 2.0
interface.
(4) Microphone input jack
Connects to a microphone for recording sounds.
This jack is for 3.5mm analog audio plugs. It accepts
both mono and stereo plugs.
(5) Audio output jack
Connects to an earphone/headset or external
speaker for playing the nScreen audio.

(1) Back cover
Inside the cover, you can find the memory slot of
the nScreen. You can replace the existing
memory module of your nScreen from here.
For more information about replacing the memory
module, the limit of maximum memory, or the types of
BenQ certified memory modules for your nScreen,
refer to "Replacing the memory" on page 36.
(2) Cable clip
You can route the cables via the cable clip.
(3) Power jack
Connects AC power supply to power the nScreen.
(4) LAN (Local Area Network) port (RJ-45
connector)
Allows the nScreen to connect to a 10/100Mbps
fast Ethernet 100BASE-T network.
Please be careful to avoid plugging an RJ-11 phone
cable connector in the RJ-45 port. This will damage
the LAN port. They look similar, but the RJ-45
connector is wider than the RJ-11 connector, and has
more conductors.

Power button indicator
(5) USB ports
Connects peripherals such as mice, digital
cameras and MP3 players that use the USB 2.0
interface.
(6) Anti-theft Kensington lock slot
Attaches an anti-theft Kensington lock and cable
to this slot to help prevent possible theft.
The location of this lock may vary by model.
(7) nScreen handset lock slot
Connects the handset to the nScreen via the
handset holder.
nScreen handset comes with select models. For
information on connecting the handset, refer to
"Connecting the handset" on page 17.

• When the system is on, it lights up in green.
• When the system is in Sleep mode, it flashes in
amber.
• When the system is off or in Hibernate mode, the
light goes off.

Customizing your nScreen
Before you start using the nScreen, you can customize the
settings of the nScreen to have a enjoyable experience using the
nScreen.
Depending on the operating system pre-installed on the
nScreen, there may be different procedures to customize your
nScreen.
Adjusting the font size
To adjust the font size, you need to adjust the screen resolution.
1. Go to Display Properties by doing one of the following:
• Go to Start > Control Panel > Appearance and
Themes > Change the screen resolution.
• Right-click on the desktop, and select Properties >
Settings.
2. Drag the slider of Screen resolution to change the setting.
3. Click Apply and OK.
Using the magnifying glass
Your nScreen features a magnifying glass. A magnifying glass
helps you see the details of certain areas or objects without
changing the resolution of whole screen.
1. Click in the notification area located at the lower right
corner of the desktop.
2. Move the magnifying glass around to enlarge certain areas
that are seen through it.
3. Click on the desktop to quit.
The magnifying glass may not be available in all programs.
• To change the settings, e.g. the size of the magnified objects
or the lens type, right-click and select Show Dragnifier
Options.
• If you terminate the program (by right-clicking and
selecting Terminate, the magnifying glass will be
deactivated and the icon will be disappeared in the
notification area. You need to reboot the nScreen to activate
the program again.

Adjusting the screen brightness
Press the brightness buttons at the right side of the nScreen to
adjust the screen brightness.
Adjusting the volume
Switch the volume switch (which is also the Power button) to
adjust the volume.
Using sound effects
Depending on your purchased model, your nScreen comes with
different programs that help achieve desired sound quality, and
thus brings you an enjoyable listening experience.
Your nScreen is supported by SRS technologies and offers varies
sound effects for the audio and video files played on your
nScreen.
For more information on settings, go to Start > Help and
Support in Windows XP.

When an audio or video file is selected to be played, SRS
Sound is activated automatically.
• The Senior Mode ( ) is recommended for the elderly.
Click to apply the sound effect to the audio/video file.
• To use other sound effects, click (for audio files) or
(for video files), and select a desired effect from the drop-
down list below the power button .
• To disable the selected sound effect, click .
Using text input
To enter text, you can use the accompanying physical keyboard
and the on-screen keyboard pre-installed in your operating
system.
Depending on the language version of your operating system,
different text input methods are pre-installed. You can activate
new input methods and switch to the desired ones as needed.
• To use the physical keyboard, refer to the Help file in the
program or Start > Help and Support.
• To use the on-screen keyboard, double-click on the
desktop. Click the keys on the virtual keyboard to enter
corresponding characters or activate designated functions.
Using the gadgets
Your nScreen has embedded a program which collects multiple
gadgets that can retrieve the latest updates from the web pages,
including news, daily weather, calendar, and so on, which keep
you connected to the world. You are also provided with easy-to-
use tools and entertainments that are available via gadgets.
Below is a brief introduction on adding gadgets. For more
functions, refer to the Help file in the program.
Adding new gadgets
1. Make sure your nScreen is connected to the Internet as
instructed in "LAN (Local Area Network) port (RJ-45
connector)" on page 12 or "Connecting to a wireless
network" on page 19.
2. Right-click in the notification area located at the lower
right corner of the desktop, and select Get More Widgets....
Available gadgets are displayed.
3. Select a desired gadget and follow the on-screen instructions
to download it.
