MANUAL FOR INSTALLATION, USE AND
MAINTENANCE
BG-EXCLUSIVE
Congratulations!
You have chosen an appliance of the Bodart & Gonay range and we would like
to thank you for it. We are convinced that it will bring you warmth and
comfort. In order to derive the greatest benefit from your fireplace, we greatly
stress the importance of following the instructions and recommendations
given in this notice.

2
General
In order to obtain optimum and safe operation of your barbecue, we
recommend that you entrust its installation to a professional who will carry out
the work in accordance with the rules of the art.
Bodart & Gonay is responsible for the delivery of the appliance.
The installation is the responsibility of the owner and/or the installer, who will
ensure that it is carried out in accordance with the regulations and standards in
force in the various countries for the installation, insulation and connection of
solid wood fired barbecues in new or old buildings, as well as for the smoke
evacuation ducts.
The appliance must not be modified, otherwise it is dangerous and the
guarantee will be invalidated.
A list of our installers is available on our website www.bgfires.com
Before putting your barbecue into operation, and to ensure correct use and
durability, we recommend that you read this manual carefully to familiarize
yourself with its various functions and features.
Before lighting your first fire, make sure that there are no materials left in the
barbecue that need to be installed.
The paint is not fully cured and will therefore harden during the first use,
releasing smoke and odors. We recommend that the first fire is very hot.
Bodart & Gonay barbecues are designed for use as a back fire and for grilling,
not as an auxiliary or continuous heater.

MANUAL
Security
These fireplaces produce a certain amount of heat. The whole outside of the
fire is very hot.
Therefore, ensure that children and the elderly stay far enough away from the
fire so that they cannot reach it and, if necessary, provide protection around
the fire.
Never allow children to use the fireplace.
Warning
CAUTION: This barbecue will become very hot.
Do not use it in closed areas!
CAUTION: Do not use alcohol or petrol to light or re-light the fire!
Use firelighters that comply with EN 1860-3!
Caution! Do not leave the barbecue within the reach of children and
pets.
*Do not use the barbecue in enclosed and/or habitable areas, e.g.
houses, caravan tents, campers, boats. Risk of death from carbon
monoxide poisoning.
*Wear heat-resistant barbecue gloves (according to EN 407, Contact heat
or higher) when cooking, adjusting the ventilation flaps and handling the
grill grids.
*Use suitable utensils with long, heat-resistant handles.

4
Lighting a fire
1. Remove excess ash and empty the ash drawer.
2. Place about 2 kg of kindling in the centre of the barbecue on the fire
grates, place a solid firelighter on the pile thus formed.
3. Light the kindling.
4. When the kindling has formed a cinder bed (glowing coals), you can
place larger logs.
5. Before lighting the fire, wait until a layer of white ash covers the fuel.
First Fire
Before the first firing, the logs must glow for at least 30 minutes.
Fuel
Bodart & Gonay barbecues are designed for burning hardwood logs and
charcoal. The moisture content of the wood remains an important factor.
Moist wood is more difficult to burn and pollutes the environment.
The maximum fuel quantity is 5 kg/h for wood and 2.5 kg/h for charcoal.

5
MAINTENANCE BARBECUE
Cleaning
- Follow some basic maintenance instructions to keep your appliance in good
condition for many years.
- It is recommended to remove the ashes from the barbecue the day after use to
avoid the risk of corrosion. The ashes will gradually absorb moisture from the air and
become corrosive to the paint and steel of the barbecue, which can cause rust.
Sweep the ashes with a soft brush into the ashtray.
- To avoid burns and property damage, clean the appliance when the ashes are no
longer glowing.
- Dispose of the ashes via the ashtray or an ash vacuum cleaner.
- Empty the ashtray regularly.
- Do not use any aggressive cleaning agents on the appliance, as these can damage
it.
- The rest of the appliance can be cleaned with a damp cloth.
- Acid rain, chemicals and salt water can cause surface rust.
- Do not use sharp objects or abrasive cleaners to clean the surfaces of your device.
- Clean the inside after use to optimise the performance of the device.
- If the paint is damaged in any area, touch it up quickly with the fireproof paint spray
provided, after thoroughly cleaning the area with a soft cloth. This reduces the risk of
rusting.
- Natural draught chimneys should be cleaned once a year; if a smoke fan is used,
the chimney and fan should be cleaned 2-3 times a year.

MANUAL FOR INSTALLATION
Preparation and installation
Note: Remove all packaging, including straps, before using the product.
Choose a suitable place to install the fireplace:
- It is recommended/recommended to install this unit under a roof.
- Use this unit only in a well-ventilated area. Do not use it in a garage, building,
hallway or other confined space.
- Keep the unit on a safe and level surface at all times.
- Do not use the unit within 1.5 m of any combustible material. Flammable materials
include wooden or treated wooden decks, patios and verandas, flammable liquids
and chemicals. There is a risk of damage or ignition from sparks and small embers.
Foundation of the fireplace
We recommend that the appliance is placed on a stable horizontal support that is
strong enough to bear the weight of the appliance and the flue.
If the appliance is placed on these supports, it is necessary to secure it to a wall to
increase the stability of the appliance.
In any case, make sure there is a high point of support to prevent the appliance from
falling over.
Dimensions of the niche
The niche (i.e. the space around the fireplace) must contain the appliance, with an
extra space of at least 5 mm (left, right and above the fireplace) to allow for
expansion. No brickwork should be built against or over the fireplace.
Ventilation around the barbecue
It is mandatory to ventilate the niche with an air inlet at the bottom and an air outlet at
the top of the niche to reduce the wall temperature.
Isolation barbecue
The materials used must be fireproof. The temperature of the flue gases can reach
300°C to 400°C, which can cause uninsulated combustible materials to burn. To
protect certain materials, high-temperature insulation must be used around the
fireplace. In this case, we recommend that you protect the rear, sides and top of the
appliance.

7
If no insulation is fitted, it is advisable to keep a distance of 15 cm from non-
combustible materials and to ventilate the recess well. Your installer will be able to
give you information about the protection that should be considered. Your fitter can
also place a floor plate in front of the fireplace to prevent embers from falling onto the
floor.
The fireplace can be installed at different heights using the legs, but it is always
necessary to attach it to a structural element to stabilise it and prevent it from falling
over.
If the stove is installed on a high support, it is necessary to leave a hole with a
diameter of 150 mm for the intake of combustion air. Never block the combustion air
supply under the fireplace.
Radiation from the fireplace
The fire radiates heat, so it is essential to use non-combustible materials in the
radiation area.
Chimney connection
We recommend the installation of a double-walled flue pipe with the same diameter
as the flue gas outlet of the appliance and a height of at least 4 m, fitted with a rain
hood. Depending on the location and environment, additional height may be
required. Consult your installer for personal advice on your installation.
In addition, the barbecue must be placed at least 6 metres away from any tree,
building or other vertical obstacle that would protrude beyond the smoke outlet of the
barbecue, both for safety reasons and to avoid frequent smoke recurrence.
Spark guard (Option)
If the appliance is equipped with a lift door, make sure that the movement of the
counterweight, the cables and the pulleys is not impeded. Before closing the niche,
remove the transport collars blocking the counterweight and check that the
mechanism works properly.
