
Safety rules for chainsaws
Your Clothing
• Wear close-fitting and protective clothing, including safety
helmet, goggles, safety shoes and gloves
• We recommend strong gardening gloves and rubber foot ear
for outdoor use
Your Work Area
• Don't use your chainsa in damp or et conditions
• Keep children and all other onlookers at a safe distance from
your ork area, or here you are felling a tree
Your Work
• Use clamps or chocks to hold your ork
• Use edges to help control felling, and to prevent trapping the
sa chain and guide bar in the cut See the page on 'Ho to use

Your Chainsaw
• Keep your chainsa clean ith a dry cloth - don’t use any
solvents, or cleaning fluids.
• Don’t allo dirt, oil or sa dust to build up on your
chainsa
• Make sure that the air inlet and outlet slots remain clear at all
times - they ust not become clogged
• Keep the chain sharp and make sure that both the chain and its
guide bar are clean and ell oiled. The chain must lit snugly
on the guide bar
• Do not use a chainsa hich is damaged, not properly
adjusted, or not completely and securely assembled
Your Position
• Be sure of youi footing and balance at all times
• Do not over-reach
• Pre-plan a safe exit from a falling tree or branches See the
page on 'Ho to use your chainsa for details.
• Be specially careful hen using your chainsa in a kneeling
position
• Do not try to operate your chainsa hile in a tree or on
a ladder 01 on any other unstable surface.
These positions are EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.
Making Your Cut
• Make sure the chain is not touching anything before you
s itch on
• Hold the chainsa firmly ith both hands hen the motor is
running, use a firm grip ith thumbs and fingers encircling the
handles
• Keep all parts of your body and clothing a ay from the chain
hen it is running
• Watch carefully hat you cut
• BEWARE OF KICKBACK!
Kickback is hen the chainsa jerks up ards or back ards
It can be caused by
hitting branches or other objects accidentally ith the lip ot
the sa hile the chain is moving;
- hitting metal, cement, or other hard materials near the ood,
or buried in the ood;
- a blunt or loose chain,
- cutting above shoulder height,
- lack of attention to holding or guiding the sa hile cutting;
- overnalancing
• Be very careful hen cutting small size brush and saplings
because thin material may be caught in the chain and be
hipped to ards you, or pull you off balance
• Be alert for spring-back hen cutting a branch under tension,
so that you ill not be struck hen the tension is released
Switching Off
• Always re e ber that the chain will continue
to run for a short ti e after the saw has
been switched oft.
• Release the trigger-s itch and ait for the chain to stop before
you put the sa do n
• Don't touch or try to stop the moving chain ith your hand
Plug and Cable
• Remove the plug from the mains before
- moving to ork in a different place;
- adjusting the sa ,
- cleaning the sa ;
- if the cord gets tangled or damaged
• Never jerk the cable to disconnect the plug from the socket
• Don’t abuse the cable, and check it frequently for damage
• Keep the cable a ay from heat, oil, and sharp edges
Carrying and Storage
• Carry your chainsa ith the mams supply disconnected
• Carry your sa by the front handle ith the chain pointing ;■■■
behind you
• Never carry your sa by the cable.
• Store all parts of your chainsa in a dry, secure place out ot
reach of children
• If you're not going to use your sa foi some time, remove the,
chain and guide bar and keep them immersed in chain oil.
