Nimbus Seat
Instructions for Use

Instructions For Use
1. Set the leg length.
a) Set the seat length,
loosen the 4 cap head
screws.
b) Adjust the position of the seat on
the interface to best position on
the chassis
i) 4 screws (BAIS) or 8 screws
(Fixed) under the seat.
ii) Retighten the screws (15Nm) -
FMEA ref BLAFMEAS001
c) Apply Loctite 243 to the six interface set screws and
tighten to 8Nm.
Beware of nger trap hazards while performing adjustments.
Where appropriate, apply Loctite 243 to all adjustable areas of the assembly and check all
fasteners are secure before handover.
2. Set the hip width to suit.
a) Leave adjustment nuts
slightly loose so that it can be
corrected once patient is in
the seat.
9. Check the leg length
following the pelvic support
adjustment, adjust if
required.
10. Re-adjust the backrest angle if
required.
12. Adjust and
set the headrest
position.
Link bars - 15Nm
• Ball socket - 8Nm
11. Adjust the backrest
height.
a) Loosen the 4 cap head
screws and slide the
backrest either up or down to
suit.
b) If a harness is being used, the backrest should be
level or slightly above the shoulder height, when
the patient is correctly positioned in the seat.
c) Tighten the xings (15Nm).

5. Position the thigh
supports and tighten
xings (15Nm).
• Slider screws - 10Nm.
7. Set the headrest in place
for later adjustment.
3. Set the angle
of the backrest
to suit the
patient’s
needs (based
on clinical
assessment).
a) Remove bolt on the
dial and set in hole to
suit required angle.
When dampers are tted please see additional
informations sheet.
13. Loosen the
throacic support
xings.
a) Adjust the thoracic supports to suit the
patient’s needs:
b) Height
c) Width
d) Rotation
e) Retighten the thoracic support xings
(2x Rear: 15Nm, 2x Front: 10Nm).
14. Adjust the pelvic belt
to suit.
a) Length adjustment
is made via the over
lock buckle.
15. Harness:
a) Adjust the lower
straps on the
harness, ensuring
that the harness is
away from the neck.
b) Adjust the top straps
so that the harness can be
suitably tightened.
16. Adjust the
pommel to the
correct position.
8. Slacken off the pelvic support xings.
a) From the front hold the pelvic support and
draw it to the rear of the pelvis.
b) Applying a small amount of
pressure to move the
pelvic support and
pelvis in to the best
alignment (neutral
or a slight anterior
tilt is desirable).
c) Tighten the xings
on the pelvic
support (15Nm).
6. Adjust the foot
support to suit:
a) Height
b) Angle
• Tighten to 10Nm.
4. Position the
patient in the
seat.

Description and Purpose

Application
1. The Nimbus is a Modular Seating system, designed to offer support to the
user’s body creating stability, improving function and protecting the body
systems.
2. The device is designed for use by people that have limited sitting ability
and near symmetrical posture.
Contra-Indications
1. It is not intended for people that have large postural deformities or severe
skin integrity issues.
Prescription Information
1. A prescription form is available on our website; www.blatchford.co.uk,
speak to one of our clinicians or Customer Services.
2. The seat has been designed in 3 sizes and can accommodate a wide
range of users due to the modularity and adjustment scope.
3. There are a number of standard accessories appropriate for use with the
Nimbus Seat and the range also has a number of specically designed add
on parts.
Function
1. The Nimbus Seat is designed to offer suitable support to the user,
maintaining good body alignment and user functionality.
2. The design is modular and can be adjusted to suit the changing needs of
the user:
i) Growth
ii) Postural needs
iii) Functional Needs
3. The Design can incorporate a dynamic backrest function that allows some
of the users tone patterns to be accommodated without damage to the
device and or the user.
Maintenance
An annual visual inspection is recommended. Check for visual defects that
may affect proper function. Maintenance must be carried out by competent
personnel.
1. A mechanical review can be completed either at a local clinic or at the
user’s residence, school or place of work. It is normal that the user will
have their needs re-assessed at regular intervals and the mechanical
review can be carried out during these appointments. These should be
carried out by a fully trained rehabilitation or seating engineer.
2. Training can be provided to Wheelchair Services and Approved Repairers
to ensure any maintenance is in line with manufacturer’s instructions.

3. Clean regularly as part of routine maintenance and fabric hygiene.
Limitations on Use
The Nimbus seat has a working life of up to 3 – 5 years depending on
severity of use and the level of maintenance completed. Please refer to the
Maintenance Schedule Matrix.
Maximum user weight is 100 kg at an average activity level.
It is designed to be tted to a wheelchair or a static seating system using a
range of Blatchford interfacing options. The Nimbus has been crash tested
in a number of congurations on the surrogate base. Please refer to the
manufacturer’s guidelines and technical instructions fully for any base before
selecting Nimbus as a seating solution.
At the end of useful life the device should be disposed in accordance with the
Blatchford environmental policy.
The Nimbus is not a Custom Made Device and could be re-issued to
another patient. (A full mechanical review, replacement upholstery and
decontamination is essential.)
The Nimbus Seat is designed for use with the Activate for Kids Ltd.
Streetwise Buggy (small size only) or Neo Wheelchair Base (all sizes).
Use with any other device should be covered using a local risk assessment.
Clinical Set–up of the Nimbus seat
Please follow the instructions provided in this document. Any customisation of
the device is carried out using a local risk assessment.
Technical Data
The Nimbus seat has been crash tested up to 100kg user weight against
ISO16840-4:2009(E) standard.
Its use should be restricted to a static seating system or a mobile wheelbase,
it should not be used for any other activity.
The weight limit of the completed seating solution is determined by it’s lowest
rated component.
It is designed for single occupancy only.
Lap belts and harnesses (if tted) are to maintain postural support. They are
not intended to be used as safety devices and must not be used as the sole
restraint in transportation.
Nimbus is fabricated to the highest quality standards exceeding the
requirements of ISO 16840-4:2009. The fabric covers are rated to BS 7176
Crib 5.
Seat Sizes and Important Data
*Seat weight: Basic seat, consisting of xed back, base and cushion, adjustable
anti-thrust block, thigh guides, backrest and cushion, xed laterals, adjustable pelvic
support and pad and Nimbus Fixed Interface. Refer to brochure for weights for additional
accessories.
Ordering Information
Spare parts can be ordered through Customer Services.
Liability
The manufacturer recommends using the device only under the specied
conditions and for the intended purposes. The device must be maintained
according to the instructions for use supplied with the device. The
manufacturer is not liable for damage caused by the component combinations
that were not authorized by the manufacturer.
CE Conformity
This product meets the requirements of 93/42/EEC guidelines for medical
products. This product has been classied as a Class 1 Product according
to the classication criteria outlined in Appendix IX of the guidelines. The
Declaration of Conformity was therefore created by Blatchford Limited with
sole responsibility according to Appendix VII of the guidelines.
Warranty
The warranty for the Nimbus seat is 12 months. See website for current full
warranty statement.
The user should be aware that changes or modications not expressly
approved will void the warranty.
