Electric Power Steering.
Unlike conventional, hydraulic steering systems,
the electrical steering only uses energy during
actual steering. When the steering wheel position
is constant – for example at high speed along
the motorway – the electric motor is inactive.

Timely gear shifts are one of the most effective
and easiest ways to save fuel. This is where the
Optimum Shift Indicator in conjunction with six-
speed manual transmission comes in. It shows
the driver what gear to use in order to drive more
efficiently.
Lightweight construction.
Our engineers use aluminium where lighter
materials are more expedient, for instance in
the front section or for the suspension, in the
bonnet and in the hardtop. The six-cylinder
in-line petrol engine, for instance, is composed
of aluminium and magnesium. Making these
engines the lightest in their class. These weight
savings lead to lower fuel consumption and
better axle load distribution, for more agility,
especially in bends.
Brake Energy Regeneration. To supply a battery with electrical energy, the generator (alternator)
is permanently driven using engine power, which demands additional fuel consumption. Brake
Energy Regeneration means the generator usually only generates electricity when the driver
either takes the foot off the accelerator or the brake – previously unused kinetic energy is transformed
in coasting mode into electrical energy before being fed into the battery. In this way, electricity is
generated while coasting, without consuming fuel.
Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance.
While driving, tyres are constantly changing
shape. This uses up energy and thus fuel.
Tyres with reduced rolling-resistance have an
improved design and use special materials for
their road treads and side walls, thus reducing
deformation.
Some BMW EfficientDynamics features are dependent
on the car‘s equipment and are not available for all model
variants. Your BMW partner will be happy to provide you
with information on all equipment details.

The pleasure you get from driving a BMW is the result of fine engineering – always setting the benchmark because it is based on much more than engine
power. This is the tradition behind BMW EfficientDynamics. It includes the visionary Hydrogen engine, already used in a number of completely
emission-free BMW  Series saloons. Also going into production soon is the BMW ActiveHybrid – an intelligent, demand-oriented combination of
internal combustion engine and electric motor. And every BMW already includes the multi-award-winning BMW EfficientDynamics technology
package as standard that boosts dynamics even further whilst simultaneously reducing fuel consumption and COemissions.
Thanks to the innovative features of
EfficientDynamics, BMW has been able
to significantly reduce COemissions in
many models. But that’s just for starters.
We’re carrying on our research with
EfficientDynamics – in the quest to bring you
more driving pleasure and less emissions.

 Xenon Headlights for high and low beam, incl. four light rings used as daytime running lights and automatic headlight range control, for optimal
illumination of the road ahead at night and when visibility is poor.
 Adaptive Headlights with variable light distribution use electro-mechanical control of the moving headlights to provide optimum
illumination through corners as soon as the driver turns into the bend. In addition, variable light distribution is a standard feature of this equipment
package and will illuminate a wider or narrower section of the road depending on your speed.
 High-beam assistant supports the driver at night by automatically switching to low beam when there is oncoming traffic or another car ahead,
or when the road is sufficiently illuminated.
 Headlight washing system.
 Exterior mirror package with mirrors that can
be folded in automatically using the integrated
electric fold-in function (e.g. in a carwash), and
can then be folded back into position at the
touch of a button, incl. parking function for
passenger-side wing.
 Interior mirror with automatic anti-glare
function. Automatically dims when light from
following cars exceeds a specified intensity.
 Lights Package encompasses door exit
lights, handle-area illumination, which illuminates
the entryway for  seconds when the doors
are unlocked, for added convenience in the dark.
Also includes: storage compartment illumination,
ambient lighting, reading lights, footwell lighting.
 Retractable hardtop can be quickly opened
at the touch of a button (opens and closes only
when vehicle is stationary).
 Wind deflector lets you enjoy open-top
driving without annoying drafts and turbulence
in the shoulder and neck area; the wind deflector
is easy to operate and can be stowed compactly
in the luggage compartment.

Lumbar support for driver’s and front passenger’s seats, electrically adjustable in height and depth to provide a perfect, ergonomic seating
position and support your back muscles.
 Armrest, foldable, with capacious storage compartment.
 Seat heating for driver and front passenger
(three phase); seat, backrest and lateral supports
can be heated to provide a comfortable warmth
only moments into your drive (standard for
Z sDrivei and Z sDrivei).
 Standard seats (shown here with optionally
available Coral Red Kansas leather) with integrated
fixed headrests and long adjustable range for
seat length position as well as individually
adjustable seat height and backrest angle.
 Seat adjustment, electric, for driver’s and
front passenger’s seat incl. two memory
positions for the driver’s seat.
 Child seat fastening ISOFIX for passenger
seat. Front passenger airbag can be deactivated.
 Sports leather steering wheel. The use of
SunReflective Technology ensures that the
leather steering wheel rim never becomes
uncomfortable to the touch when heated by
direct sunlight.
 Multifunction buttons for sports leather
steering wheel, control of radio, CD drive and
telephone (optional) via integrated buttons –
so you can keep your hands on the wheel for
safer driving.

 Dynamic Driving Control allows you to easily switch between the Normal, Sport or Sport Plus
driving modes. For sporty drivers, this option allows you to sharpen all the vehicle’s responses. The
system encompasses direct feedback from the steering system, control maps for the accelerator
and dynamic gearshift on the optional automatic transmissions. Additionally, at the push of a button
(DSC off) you can deactivate Dynamic Stability Control or change to Traction mode, allowing wheel
slip within defined limits for a sportier driving style.
 Adaptive M suspension lowers the chassis by  mm and electronically adjusts the dampers
(from sportingly tight to relaxed and comfortable) for a further boost to agility and an impressively
precise response.
 -speed manual transmission for an
unbelievably athletic driving style. Smooth
and optimally synchronized, it boasts precise,
short-throw gearshifts. Thanks to the narrow
transmission ratios with an additional sixth
gear the engine is even more responsive to
your own personal style of driving.
 Sports leather steering wheel with
gearshift paddles in conjunction with automatic
transmission for even more dynamic gear shifts.
 Steering wheel heating, just press a button
to quickly warm up the steering wheel rim – a
particularly pleasant amenity in winter.
-speed sports automatic transmission
Steptronic for highly convenient and sporting
gearshifts using the gear lever or the gearshift
paddles on the sports leather steering wheel –
for a maximum of driving dynamism (available
for sDrivei and sDrivei).
 Sports automatic transmission with
double clutch for particularly fast gearshifts
with no loss of traction, using the gear lever or
the gearshift paddles on the sports leather
steering wheel; for optimum driving dynamics
and efficient fuel consumption patterns
(available for sDrivei). Gear lever and gearshift
paddles are supplied in Chrome Pearl Grey.

 Air conditioning, incl. microfilter, providing
your ideal environment any time of year, manual
temperature adjustment and air recirculation,
seven-phase blowers and knee-level vents.
 Automatic air conditioning (shown here),

sensor, fully-automatic temperature adjustment
(two separate controls for driver and front

 Radio BMW Business CD, -channel amplifier, scan function, CD drive, MP decoder,

 Radio BMW Professional (pictured here), like radio BMW Business CD, also including double
tuner, connection for a CD changer and two-line display for extended presentation of telephone
numbers, names and audio/MP tracks.
DAB tuner for additional reception of digital radio programs (in conjunction with radio BMW
Professional).
 HiFi loudspeaker system with digital
amplifier ( watts) and  loudspeakers,
featuring digital equalizing, to optimally adjust
sound to the internal dimensions of the vehicle.
 HiFi system Professional, multi-channel
capability, with digital amplifier ( watts) and a
total of  loudspeakers for a high-intensity
sound experience.
 CD changer, for  CDs, incl. scan function,
random play and MP decoder; installed in
the glove compartment.
 DVD changer, features and location as for

multi-channel capability.

 BMW Assist* offers a range of services to
support the driver: automatic and manual
emergency call, Traffic Info Plus*, My Info and

 Navigation system Professional*, incl. DVD
drive, iDrive Controller with direct menu control
buttons, functional bookmarks, integrated hard
disc for audio files and navigation data, D map
presentation and folding high-resolution .-inch
display.
 Voice control system (available in conjunction
with Navigation system Professional*) allows
you to control functions such as radio station
selection, navigational destinations or telephone
system entries while on the move. These
functions are shown simultaneously in the
Control Display.
 TV function allows the Control Display to be
used as a television when the vehicle is stationary.
Both analogue and digital (DVB-T) programs can
be viewed.
 Mobile phone preparation Business with
Bluetooth interface (incl. hands-free capability,
connection for charger and external aerial).
A separately available snap-in adapter can be
used to connect a Bluetooth-ready mobile
phone, which can also be operated via iDrive (in
conjunction with the navigation system*).
 USB/audio interface for a USB stick or MP
player, can be complemented with a comfort
connection to your mobile phone’s music
player. Tracks are shown on the Control Display
(only with the navigation system*). Operated
via the multifunction steering wheel, radio
Professional or navigation system (both optional).

 Storage options for all kinds of objects is
provided by the storage compartment behind
the seats, a folding compartment in the
dashboard and one under the centre console,
two trays in the centre console, door trim
folding compartment on both sides, the glove
compartment and a tray in the luggage
compartment.
 Storage package includes two cupholders
under the centre console, a folding compartment
on the driver’s side, a storage compartment
in the separating wall in front of the luggage
compartment, net in the passenger footwell
and on the rear of the seat backrests, a coat
hook on each rollover bar and fastening straps
in the luggage compartment.
 Luggage compartment, with  litre
capacity (with hardtop open) or  litres when
hardtop is retracted. When the hardtop is
retracted the vehicle has room for a  inch
golf bag, for example.
 Through-loading system with integrated transport bag, offers lots of space, an ideal extension
of the luggage compartment, incl. ski holder on the sill in the luggage compartment. Even larger
objects, such as a second golf bag ("), can thus be conveniently accommodated. And regardless
of whether the hardtop is open or closed, two pairs of skis can still be transported.
