Switching on the audio
system
• Switch on ignition.
• Press the ON button.
» The audio system is in the
operating mode last used.
Switching off the audio
system
• Press the ON button.
» The radio is switched off.
» Radio display is switched off.
If the ignition is switched off
when the radio is on, the radio
remains on for approx.
20 minutes.
The radio switches off auto-
matically as soon as the stee-
ring lock is set.
If the vehicle electronics
detect that the battery is
low, the radio is switched off
even when the ignition is swit-
ched on. In this case, the radio
can be switched on again as
soon as the battery has been
charged or the engine is run-
ning.c

• Press the CD/* button
repeatedly until the desired
operating mode is enabled.
» The operating modes are
enabled in the following
order:
– Radio (b19).
–CDplayer(
b27).
– AUX: external device, e.g.
MP3 player.
– INTERCOM: operating rea-
diness for an intercom, no
radio mode.
The display on changing
into the CD operating
mode depends on the state of
the CD player (b27).c
From the CD and AUX
operating modes, pres-
sing the FM or AM button swit-
ches directly into the radio
mode. The INTERCOM opera-
ting mode can only be
disabled by pressing the
CD/* button.c
Volume
Setting the volume
• Press button 3.
» The playback becomes lou-
der.
• Press button 5.
» The playback becomes
quieter.
If pressing buttons 3or 5
leads to a display of
SPEAKER, the loudspeakers
are switched off (b15).c
Mute function
The mute function lowers the
volume by 20 dB.
• Press button 1.
» The volume is lowered.
»MUTE appears briefly in the
display.
• Press button 1.
» The volume reduction is
cancelled.

If the volume is changed
during the mute function,
the volume reduction is swit-
ched off.c
Adapting volume to the
speed
The audio system can auto-
matically adapt the playback
volume to the speed. To
achieve this, one of four pos-
sible adaptation curves must
be selected.
• Press the MAN button until
the display changes.
»SVOL and the active curve
appear in the display.
• Press buttons 2and 4to set
the desired level.
»SVOL OFF: Volume increase
disabled.
»SVOL 1: Smallest increase.
»SVOL 4: Highest increase.
After a period of time without
touching a button or after
pressing another button on the
operating unit, the set level is
adopted.
Tone settings
• Press the TON button repea-
tedly until the desired setting
is enabled.
» The following adjustments
can be made in the specified
order:
– Loudspeakers on/off
–Bass
–Treble
– Volume balance front/rear
(fader)
– Volume balance left/right
– Loudness on/off

After a period of time without
touching a button or after
pressing another button on
the operating unit, the tone
menu is closed with the new
settings.
Loudspeakers
You can use this function to
switch the loudspeakers on
and off.
• Press buttons 2and 4to
switch the speakers on or
off.
»SPKR ON: loudspeakers swit-
ched on.
»SPKR OFF: loudspeakers
switched off.
Bass
You can use this function to
change the bass in 13 levels.
– Increase: +1 .. +6
–Basesetting:0
– Decrease: -1 .. –6
• Press buttons 2and 4to set
the desired bass level.
»BASS and the selected level
appear in the display.
Treble
You can use this function to
change the treble in 13 levels.
– Increase: +1 .. +6
– Base setting: 0
– Decrease: -1 .. –6
• Press buttons 2and 4to set
the desired treble level.
»TREB and the selected level
appear in the display.

Volume balance front/
rear
You can use the fader function
to set the volume balance bet-
ween the front and rear
loudspeakers in 21 levels.
– Shift balance towards the
front: 1 .. 10
– Base setting: 0
– Shift balance towards the
rear: 1 .. 10
• Press buttons 2and 4to set
the fader.
»FAD, the direction of the
change, and the selected
level appear in the display.
Volume balance left/right
You can use the balance func-
tion to set the volume balance
between the left-hand and
right-hand loudspeakers in
21 levels.
– Shift balance towards the
left: 1 .. 10
– Base setting: 0
– Shift balance towards the
right: 1 .. 10
• Press buttons 2and 4to set
the balance.
»BAL, the direction of the
change, and the selected
level appear in the display.
Loudness
You can use this function to
change the sound curve.
• Press buttons 2and 4to
enable or disable loudness.
»LOUD ON: loudness switched
on.
»LOUD OFF: loudness swit-
ched off.

reset the settings for bass,
treble, fader and balance to
the base values.
• Press the TON button until
the display changes.
