operational and general
maintenance manual only and
does not cover major repair. All
major repair
work
must be per-
formed by
an
authorized BOLENS
DEALER, or the factory guaranty
is void. Bolens equipment is care-
fully engineered
to
give good per-
formance if properly operated and
maintained. Keep your equipment
clean and lubricate
it
as pre-
scribed in
this
manual. Periodically
inspect your
unit
and perform any
upkeep maintenance necessary.
Your dealer is
obligated

factory to completely assemble
and service new equipment
prior
to first delivery, and thoroughly
explain and demonstrate its oper-
ation. He

repair

replace

controls

how
to

the
work
area of objects
which

clutches

neutral
before attempting

start the
engine
(motor).

operator's position.

Disengage power

(motor) before making any repairs

adjustments.

17. Keep vehicle and attachments
in good operating condition,
and keep safety devices in place.
18. Keep all nuts, bolts and screws
tight
to be sure the equipment is
in safe
working
condition.
19. Never store the equipment
with gasoline in the tank inside
a
building
where fumes may
reach an open flame and spark.
Allow the engine
to
cool before
storing in any enclosure.
20. To reduce fire hazard, keep
the engine free
of
grass, leaves,
or
excessive grease.
21. The vehicle and attachments
should be stopped and inspected
for damage after striking a
foreign object, and the damage
should be repaired before re-
strarting and operating the
equipment.
22.
Do not change the engine
governor settings or overspeed
the engine.
23.
When using the vehicle with
mower, proceed as follows:
(1)
Mow only in daylight
or
in
good artificial liQht.

(2)
Ne~er
make a
cutting
height
adjustment
while
the
engine
(motor) is running if
the
oper-
ator must
dismount
to
do
so.
(3)
Shut the
engine
(motor)
off
when removing
the
grass
catcher
or
unclogging
chute.
(4)
Check
the blade
mounting
bolts for
proper
tightness
at
frequent intervals.
24. Regard
your
mower
as a
piece
of
power
equipment. Teach
this
to all
who
operate
the
equip-
ment.
Power
equipment
not
properly
operated
can
be very
dangerous.
25.When you mow on rough
terrain, in
high
grass, the
mower
should
be set at the
highest
cutting
level to
mini-
mize possible
ejection
of
debris.
26. Be
alert
at all times. Give
complete
and undivided attention
to
the
job
you are doing. This
should
minimize
the possibility
of
getting
into
dangerous
situations.
27.
Use
special
care when
mowing
near
objects
to prevent
the blades from
striking
them,
as severe
damage
could
result.
28.
Stop
the
tractor
and
dis-
engage the
mower
when any
other
person appraches. Do
not
pass
or
stand on the grass
discharge
side
of
the
mower
or
allow
anyone else
to
do
so
with
the
engine
running.
Objects
such as
wire, sticks, stones, small toys,
and
~tc.
can
be
ejected
at
high
velocity
out
of
the
discharge
chute.
29.
Never
wear
loose
clothing
when
operating
unit. It
could
become
entangled
in
moving
parts,
causing
injury
to
the
wearer.
30.
Wear
substantial
footwear
at
all
times
to
ensure as
much
protection as possible.
31. Always
make
certain
no
one
is in
the
way before
usino
re-
verse.
This
will
prevent
the
possibility
of
backing
over
objects at the rear
of
the unit.

1.
Count
the loose parts and
check
against
(Fig. 2).
2.
Remove plastic
cap
from
breather
on
mower
gear
case.
3. Apply small amount
of
grease
to
mower
drive
shaft.
Slide
universal
joint
on
to
mower
drive shaft.

NOTE: PLACING FRONT WHEELS
OF TRACTOR
UP
ON A TWO
INCH RISER WILL MAKE
IT
MUCH EASIER TO SLIDE
MOWER UNDER TRACTOR. BE
SURE TO REMOVE RISER
AFTER MOWER IS UNDER
TRACTOR IF THIS METHOD IS
USED.

Check tractor tire pressures.
Adust
to

pound front and a
pounds rear. Be sure tractor is
on a level surface and in park
position.

tractor, proceed
as
follows:
Install front mower
hitch
pins
("B")

gear
shift
tractors remove
the
lower capscrew securil)g the
bearing support and install the
front
hitch
pin in its place.
On the hydrostatic tractors in-
stall the
hitch
pin into the
lower front hole in the mounting
plate
anc;t
secure
with
a hex nut
5/16-18 .and lockwasher. Install
rear mower
hitch
pins

the left hand side. Turning
the steering wheel to the left
will
raise the drag
link
allowing additional clearance. Re-
move
crutch
tip, align hole in
universal and shaft and install
universal
joint
onto the Power
Take Off (PTO) shaft. Be certain
special
cotter
pin is installed,
locking
universal
joint
to
PTO shaft.

stall the

assembly

the short leg attached to

attachment
lift
lever.

to
the
front
of
the
tractor
with
the long leg
of
the
link
assembly
in
the
upper
plane.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
Your
mower
is
equipped
with
a
hose
fitting
insert
which
enables
you
to
wash
out
the
underside
of
your
mower
with-
out
removing
it
from the
tractor.
To
attach
hose,
remove the
plastic
cap
"G"
figure
10, from the hose
fitting.
Attach
hose,

mower
to
its lowest
cutting
position,
start
tractor
engine.

Bolens
warranty
on
the

which
the
allied
manufactured
attachments

adapled.
The
responsibility

the
design,
performance,
dura-
bility,
safety
in
operation,
service
repair
availability,
and
warranty
obligation
remain
with
the
allied
mahufacturer.

excludes
from its
warranty
obligation
all
such
allied
manufactured
attachments.
Bolens
warranty
will
be
vo1aed
if
unapproved
attach-
ments
are
adapted
to
use
with
Bolens
equipment
and are so used.
