vKnowyour controls. Read theOwnersManual carefully. Learnhowtostop theenginequicklyinany
emergency.
vDonotallowchildrenor peopleunfamiliarwith theseinstructionstousethe mower. Donot carry
passengers.
vMakesurethelawn isclearofsticks,stones, bones, wireand debris. They could be thrown bytheblade.
vDonotmowwhilst people,especiallychildren or petsarein themowing area.
vNevermowacross thefaceoftheslope, unless themower is designed for thispurpose.
vExerciseextremecautionwhenon slopes.
vReducespeedon slopesand in sharp turns toprevent overturning or loss ofcontrol.
vDonot stopor start suddenlywhen going uphill or downhill.
vStayalert for holesin theterrainand other hiddenhazards.
Usecarewhenpulling loadsor using heavy equipment:
(a) useonlyapproved drawbar hitch points
(b) limit loads tothoseyou can safelycontrol
(c) donot turn sharply
(d) usecarewhenbacking up, and
(e) usecounterweight(s) or wheel weightswhen suggested in theowner'smanual
vWatch out for trafficwhen crossing oroperating the mower near roadways.
vStop thebladesrotating beforecrossing surfacesother than grass.
vWhen using anyattachments, never direct dischargeofmaterial toward bystandersnorallowanyonenear the
machinewhileit isin operation.
vBeforeleaving theoperator'sposition:
(a) disengageall clutchesand securecutting units
(b) changeintoneutraland set theparking brake,and
(c) stop theengineand removethekey
vStop theengineand disengagethedrivetoattachments:
(a) beforerefuelling
(b) beforemaking height adjustment unless adjustment can bemade fromtheoperator's
position
(c) beforeclearing blockages
(d) beforechecking, cleaningor working on themower
(e) after striking aforeign object (inspect the mower for damage and make repairsbefore restarting and
operating the equipment) and
(f) ifmachinestartstovibrateabnormally (check immediately)
vDisengagethe drivetotheattachmentswhen transporting or not in use.
vA moweroperator should bein good physicaland mental health and not under theinfluenceofanydrug or
alcoholwhich might impairvision, co-ordinationor judgement.
vNevermowwhilebarefootorwearing open sandalsor thongs.Wear long trousersand heavy shoes.
vIt isadvisabletowear suitableeye protection when operatingamower.
vMowonlyin good daylight.
vBefore using, alwaysvisuallyinspect toseethat theblades, blade boltsand cutterassemblyarenotwornor
damaged. (Replace worn or damaged bladesand boltsin setsto preserve balance).

vCheckall nuts, boltsand screwsoften. Alwaysbesurethemower isin asafeoperating condition.
vKeep safetydevices (guardsand switches) in placeand in working order.
vNever usethemowerunless thegrass catcheror guardsprovided bythemanufacturerarein position.
vEnsurethatanysparepartsused complywith theoriginal manufacturer'srecommendationsand
specifications.
vReplacewornor faultysilencer.
vKeep enginefreeofgrass, leavesorexcessive grease. These can beafirehazard.
vRefueloutdoorsonly. Donot smokewhile fuellingengine. Never remove thecap ofthefuel tank oradd petrol
whiletheengineisrunning or theengineishot. Removethefuel cap slowlytorelieve and tankpressure. If
petrol isspilled, donotattempt tostart theenginebut move themachineawayfromtheareaof thespill and
avoid creating anysourceofignition until thepetrolvapourshave dissipated.
vCheckfor fuel leakswhilerefuelling or using themower. Ifafuel leak isfound, donot start or run theengine
until thefuel leak isfixedand spilled fuel is wipedaway.
vDo notoperatetheenginein aconfined spacewhereexhaust fumes (carbon monoxide) can collect.
vAlwaysmount themoweron theoppositesidetothedischargechute.
vStop theenginewheneveryou leave themower, even foramoment.
vStorethemower in awell-ventilated roomaway fromnaked flamessuch asmaybe found in hot water
heaters.
vDo not lend or sell themower without theOwner'sManual.

The RoverRide-on MowerGrass Catcher hasbeen designed tobefitted toand used with theRoverRancher, Raider
and Lawn King, fitted with either the30"or the38"pressedsteel cutterheads.
Thecorrect model grasscatcher tosuit theRoverRancher, Raiderand Lawn King models and cutterhead combination
can beselectedfromthe "Grass CatcherSelectionChart" (SeeSection 1. 1below).
SomeRover Ride-on Mowerswill need tohavea towbar fittedand/or theuseof adifferent mount support bracket before
theRoverGrassCatchercan becorrectlymounted. Thesemowersareidentified in thechartbelowbyan asterisk*

3.ASSEMBLY
3.1 Towbarinstallation (Refer toSelectionChart - Section1.1)
Atowbarmay needtobefittedtosomemodelsofthe
RoverRancherandRaiderRide-onMowerto
facilitatethemounting oftheRide-on MowerGrass
Catcher.
Themounting position oftherearbumperbarvaries
between modelsof Rover ride-on mowers.Duetothis
configurationtherearbumperbarmodel1I0has
threesetsofmounting holes inthesidemounting
flanges,which suit all frontengineRanchersand
Lawnkingmowerscurrentlymanufacturedby Rover.
(RefertoFigure3.l).
TheRearBumper BarModel110 isfitted as a
standardfeatureon theLawnKingandisanoption
on Rancher Ride-ons and theRaider Ride-on.
CAUTION

1. Slidethetowbar over therear of thechassiswith
thesidebracketspointing upwards.
2. Align theholesinthetowbarsidebracketswith
the holes intherearofthechassis.Retainthe

TheGrass Catchermountsupport platepart No:
A12666 has foursetsofmounting holestosuit all
frontengineRoverride-onmowerscurrently
manufacturedbyRover. Refer figure3.2aand 3.2b.
Tofit thegrasscatcherto17 and 18 seriesRover
ride-onmowersthesupport mountplatesuppliedwith
the grasscatcherhas tobereplaced withthesupport
mount platepart No: A12942 which canbepurchased
from any AuthorisedRoverServiceDealer.
1. Tilt themower seat forward.
2.Removetheseatsprings/buffersfromthe mower
by unbolting thecentreretaining bolt and nut.
3.Position thesupport bracketoverthetwoseat
spring/buffermounting holes.Retainthesupport
bracketby replacingtheseatsprings/bufferand
retainingnuts. (Figure3.2a)

four3/8"unf. setscrewswhich holdthe cutterdisc
tothedisc boss assembly.

LocatethenewFanDisc Assemblysupplied with
the grasscatcherand fit thistothecutterhead
assemblyinplaceofthecutterdisc removedin
Step2.
4. AttachtheFandisc assemblytothedisc boss
assemblyusing four3/8”unf. Setscrews.Torque
thesesetscrewsto46 Nm. (35Ft/lbs).
5. Fourflutedbladesshouldbefitted totheFan disc
assemblytomaximizegrass cuttingand
collecting.Theseflutedbladesareavailablefrom
Rover servicedealersand agents.
6.Lowertheride-on totheground andcheck the
cutterheadtilt and level, as perthe Ride-on
OwnersManual.
3.4Bladeinstallation -
Model 198 (38" Cutterhead)
l. Raisethecutterhead tothehigh cut position.
2. Raisethefront of theride-ontogiveaccess tothe
cutterhead discs and blades.
3. Removetheexisting bladesand replacethemwith
four flutedbladesusingnewbladebolts, washersand
nuts, on eachdisc. Flutedblades areavailablefrom
Rover servicedealersand agents.

mower, openup thegrass catcherfully.Tohold
thegrass catcheropen,tightenthepivotbolts.

2. Insert theinternalframeassembly(A)intothe
grass catcher, aligningthemounting holeson the
internalframeoverthelocating boltson the
catcherassembly.
3. SecureusingfourI/4"nyloc nuts(B). (Refer
Figure3.6).
4. Loosenthetwopivotboltssothat thecatcher bag
assemblyswingseasily.

3.8OutletChuteInstallation
WARNING
Whenworking on the
cutterhead
the mowermust be:
•Stationary withthe park brake
applied
•The engine switched off
•The ignition keyremoved.
1.Raisethe stone guard(A) fitted tothemower
cutterhead and slipthe tongue (B) of the
outletchutebetween the stone guardandthe
mowercutterhead.

2. Lowerthe cutterhead stone guard(A) andslide
the outletchuterod (C)intothe tongue of
the outlet chute.
3.Retainthe outletchuterod byfitting the small
spring clip(D)intothe eye of the rod.

3.9Grass Transfer Tube
1.Holdthe grass transfertube bythe handle(A)
and slide the tube intothe opening inthe front
panel of the grass catcherfrontplate.Then
slide the tube forwardoverthe open end of
the outlet chutetillitengageswiththe stop on
the outlet chute.

2. Retainthe tube byclipping the elasticised strap
(B) on the outletchuteoverthe retaining
button on the transfertube (C).

1. Raisethe cutterhead of the mowertothe
highest cut position.
2.Position theskirton the underside of the front
of the cutterhead and attachusing the two
5/16” x 3/4“ cuphead bolts(A),pushed in
fromthe underside of the cutterhead sothat
the flatwasher(B) and nylocnut(C)areon
the top side of the cutterhead.

4. OPERATION
4.1To collecttheGrass
l.Ensurethattheoutletchuteand transfer
tubearecorrectlypositioned in
accordancewiththe proceduresin
Section3.8and3.9.
2. Select therequired heightofcutonthe
rideon mower.
(a)Onthe first usage of the grass catcher,
the grass tobe cutand collected
shouldbe takendowntothe required
lengthoverseveralstages.Thiswill
reduceoverload onthe grass catcher
outletchute.
(b)Oncean areahasbeen cutandthe
grass hasbeen collected,thisarea
shouldbe regularlymowed to
maintainanevengrass length.
3.Selectthegroundspeed ontheride-on
mower.
(a)Initiallyaslowspeedwill havetobe
used withthegrass catchertoassist
ingrass pickupandimprove
efficiency.
(b)Oncethe grass catcherhasbeen used
on an area,whichisregularly
maintainedthe ground speed maybe
increased
4.Whencuttinggrass andusingthegrass
catchertrytomaintainanevenground
speed
overthearea being cutand collected.This
ensuresacontinuousflowofcutgrass
being depositedintothecatcher.
5.When cutting and catching wetordamp
grass itisadvisabletoreducethe ground
speed ofthe mower. Clogging of eitherthe
outletchuteorthe transfertube mayoccur
ifgroundspeed istoofastunderthese
conditions.
6.Iftheoutletchuteortransfertubeshould
clog,clearasfollows:
(a)Disengagethecutterhead drive
(b)Shift thespeedselectortoneutral
(c)Applytheparkingbrake.
WARNING
Switchthe engineoff.
Removethe ignition key.
(d)Removethetransfertubeandoutlet
chute.
(e)Cleartheblockage.
7. Wherepossible,mowin an anticlockwise
directiontoavoidobjectslying inthe
grass,whichcoulddamage theoutlet
8.Whenturningyourmower,withthegrass
catchermounted onyourride-onmower,
alwaysvisuallycheckthatthegrass
catcherwill notcollidewithany
obstructionthat coulddamageit.
9.When usingthe grass catcher,checkthe
transfertube fromtimetotimetoensure
thatgrass isbeing collectedand flowing
up thegrass transfertube.
10. It isrecommendedthat thecutterhead
cuttingdiscsbefittedwithflutedblades
formaximumgrass cuttingandcatching
efficiency. Flutedbladesareavailable
fromRoverserviceagentsanddealers.
4.2EmptyingtheGrassCatcher
l.Disengage thecutterdriveonthe mower
when the grass catcherisfullorthe
area tobe cutand collected is
complete.
2. Selectasuitablesitewherethecutgrass
istobeemptiedandproceedtothe
selectedsite.
WARNING
Shift thespeed selectoron the mower
toneutral and applythe parking brake
3. Dismountfromthe mowerand emptythe
grass catcherbyopening the catcher,
using thestrap attheback ofthegrass
catcher. (ReferFigure 4.1)

5. MAINTENANCE
5.1Cleaning theGrassCatcher
WARNING
The mowermust be stationary withthe
park brakeapplied,the engine
switched off,and the ignition key
removed.
1. Hosedown the outsideofthe grass
catchertokeepitfree ofdebrisand
anybuild-up ofgrassordirt.
2. Open upthe grasscatcherand hose
the insideofthe grasscatcherto
preventanybuild-up ofdirtwithin the
meshofthe grasscatcher. Thiscould
effectthe free flow ofexhaustedair
fromwithinthe grasscatcher.
5.2Cleaning theTransfer Tube
CAUTION
Do not useanypowderabrasive
cleanersorsolvents(kerosene, petrol,
etc.)toclean the transfertube asthese
scratchand damage itsclarity.
Washouttheinsideof the transfertube witha
mildliquiddetergentanddry,tomaintainthe
transparency ofthe tube.
5.3General
l. Aftereachday'suse, theride-onmower
shouldbe cleaned down.Payingparticular
attention
tothe build-up ofanyforeign matteraround
the airintakeportsinthe top ofthe
cutterheadandaround theengineexhaust
pipe andmuffler.
2. Check thecondition ofthe safetyinstruction
decalson thegrasscatcherandthe
transfertube and replaceanythatbecome
difficult toread.
3.Inspectthe grass catcherlining forsignsof
wearand tearcausedbythe conditions
underwhichitisused.Ifand when a
replacementgrasscatcherlining is
required,replacementgrasscatcherlinings
areavailablefromRoverAuthorised
dealersand serviceagents.

RoverMowers Limitedwarrant thatthismachineisfree fromdefectsin materialand
workmanship.Thiswarrantyislimited tomakinggoodorreplacinganypartwhich
appears uponinspectionby themanufacturer orhisagent tobe defective in material
orworkmanship.
Thiswarrantyshall applyforaperiodof 12 monthsfromdateofpurchase exceptfor
productsused commerciallywherethewarrantyis limited to90 days.
Thiswarrantydoes notobligatethemanufacturer,hisagentsordealers tobearthe
transportcostsincurred in therepairorreplacement of anydefective part.
Thiswarrantyexcludes fairwearandtear,oranydamagecausedby misuseorabuse.
Partswhich can be subjected touse beyondtheirnormalintendedworkingcapacityare
alsoexcluded.
Thiswarrantyisvoidif partsother thangenuinehave been used orif repairsor
alterationshave been madewithout themanufacturer'swritten authority.
Theabove warrantydoes notexclude anycondition orwarrantyimplied by theTrade
PracticesAct1974 oranyother relevant legislation which implies anyconditionwhich
cannotbe excluded.
