5.2.2. Filling/Replacing Tubular Bag
Place the machine on the support block provided if you need to fill the Bona
OptiSpread 100 Battery or to replace an empty tubular bag. Secure the
machine at the head end using the clamping rubber.
NEVER PUT THE BONA OPTISPREAD 100 BATTERY DOWN ON THE

12
5.2.3. Applying adhesive
Place the full Bona OptiSpread 100 Battery on the nozzle head, press the
starter and step back.
Starter
The amount of adhesive applied depends mainly on your speed of motion,
the nozzle size and the feed which can be adjusted continuously from 1-9.
Note:
When squeezing from a new nozzle for the first time, it takes a little time
before the adhesive comes out of the openings.
If you let go of the starter, application of adhesive is stopped immediately.
The piston is slightly retracted (audible). Exact and dosed application of
adhesive is possible.
Tubular bag
If possible, try to ensure that the adhesive bag is completely emptied. If this
is not possible, the partially used tubular bag can remain in the machine for
up to 12 hours. The machine must be stored horizontally.
If work is interrupted for a longer period, the partially used bag should be
removed and closed using a cable tie. When required, this closed bag can
then be used again.
Depending on the age of the foil bag, gas pressure may develop inside the
bag which results in a swelling of the foil. This may make insertion more
difficult. We recommend that the foil be pricked with a needle close to the
clip. Surplus pressure can then escape. However, this has no effect on the
respective adhesive.
Nozzle
If work is interrupted for a longer period (up to 12 hours), adhesive which has
come out on the nozzle toothing will harden. We recommend that such
surplus adhesive be removed using Bona Tool Cleaner and that the outlets
be covered with adhesive tape.
In case of longer interruptions, the nozzle has to be cleaned or, if required,
replaced with a new one. Hardened adhesive must not be pressed out by
squeezing new adhesive behind it. This may cause damage to the drive or
serious fouling.

13
5.2.4. Replacing the Nozzle
1. Unscrew the fastening screws on the underside, remove the nozzle and
dispose of the nozzle.
2. Place on a new nozzle and fasten using the fastening screws.
3. If there is any hardened adhesive in the feed channel and the inside of
the nozzle base, this must be removed manually.
4. Liquid adhesive need not be removed
5.2.5. Undersurface Quality
To ensure ideal application and functioning of the adhesive, the undersurface
must be ready for use and comply with the requirements of DIN 18356. If
necessary, appropriate action must be taken to prepare the undersurface to
ensure it is suitable for use. Respective Bona products can be found in our
extensive product portfolio.

14
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
6.1. Maintenance
When used correctly and with care in accordance with the operating
instructions, the Bona OptiSpread100 battery is maintenance-free.
6.2. Cleaning
The Bona OptiSpread 100 Battery has been factory-fitted with a PTFE
working piston. It is not permitted to use any lubricants, greases, oils or any
other similar products. The inside of the tube must only be cleaned with
compressed air or with a clean, lint-free cotton cloth or with Bona Tool
Cleaner.
The upper side of the filler tube and the outer thread are usually subjected to
most fouling as a result of fresh adhesive which deposits in small amounts on
the thread and the inside of the filler tube when replacing the tubular bag.
Such fresh adhesive fouling should be removed immediately using Bona Tool
Cleaner, since accumulation of adhesive in the thread turns or the inside of
the tube may lead to accidental adhesive bleed.
Regular cleaning of respective parts of the machine ensure enduring
functioning of the Bona OptiSpread 100 Battery and les cleaning required
when you have completed your work!
6.3. Cleaning the Adhesive Nozzle
The adhesive nozzle is designed as a non-return nozzle which can be
disposed of after you have completed your respective project. However, the
nozzle can also be used repeatedly. No specific range can be specified,
since the nozzle has a long service life on account of the hard-wearing
material and in the case of regular cleaning and correct handling.
After thorough cleaning, the nozzle can be used repeatedly. Cleaning should
be carried out as follows:
oDismantle the nozzle as described in item 5.2.4.
oRemove the side caps of the nozzle and remove any unhardened, fresh
adhesive. This can be carried out easily by using a rod or cloth pulled
through the tube.
oClean the inside using several Bona Tool Cleaner cloths by pulling them
through the nozzle.
oIt is easiest to remove residual adhesive in the toothing when the
adhesive has hardened. Make sure you do not damage the toothing form
by using sharp and pointed items so as to ensure lasting, even adhesive
bleed.
oThe adhesive outlet at the nozzle shoe should also be cleaned using
Bona Tool Cleaner.
7. Storage and Transport

15
7.1. Correct Storage
Always store the device in a horizontal position in the original packaging.
In the case of a longer period of interruption from work of up to 12 hours, the
nozzle of the Bona OptiSpread 100 Battery can remain on the machine.
Partially used adhesive foil bags can also remain in the machine. The nozzle
must be cleaned on the outside with Bona Tool Cleaner. The section where
adhesive comes out must be cleaned thoroughly. Toothing must then be
covered with adhesive tape or the entire nozzle must be closed air-tight.
The machine can be stored horizontally or transported in this condition for up
to 24 hours without risk of drying.
In the case of longer storage (> 24 hours) the nozzle must be removed from
the tube. If a foil bag is still in the machine, it must be pressed empty or
removed. The adhesive nozzle is designed as a non-return nozzle and can
be disposed of on completion of the respective project. If required, the nozzle
can be used repeatedly.
Avoid lengthy storage in damp or continuously wet and dusty places.
If the machine has been stored continuously or overnight at a temperature of
under +10°C, the machine first has to be acclimatized to room temperature (≥
+ 15°C) to ensure safe functioning of the piston.
7.2. Transport
Always transport the OptiSpread 100 Battery in the original packaging
provided.
When transporting the machine, make sure it is not damaged and score and
fasten it to avoid any damage during transport.

16
8. Troubleshooting
Malfunctions are not to be expected, if the Bona OptiSpread 100 Battery is
used and operated correctly and properly in accordance with the instructions
and notes contained in these operating instructions.
However, if malfunctions do occur, you should examine possible sources of
such errors:
Battery
Is the battery fully charged? Partially charged batteries may lead to automatic
shut-down of the feed due to incorrect identification of a malfunction. Always
charge the battery completely! This also prevents a memory effect.
Toothed rack
Is it bent or damaged?
Never put the device down on the rack.
Residual adhesive
Is there any residual hardened adhesive in the machine/nozzle? If yes,
remove it or replace the nozzle. Observe the notes specified in Chapter 5
and 6.
