Not all the illustrated or described accessories are
included as standard delivery.
The machine is intended for the screwing in and
loosening of screws as well as drilling in wood,
metal, ceramics and plastic.
Working safely with this machine
is possible only when the operat-
ing and safety information is
read completely and the instruc-
tions contained therein are
strictly followed. In addition, the
general safety instructions in the
enclosed booklet must be fol-
lowed. Before using for the first
time, ask for a practical demon-
stration.
Be careful of hidden electrical lines
or gas and water pipes. Check the
working area, e. g., with a metal de-
tector.
If you have long hair, wear a protec-
tivehairnet. Work only with close-fit-
ting clothes.
■
Before each use, check the machine and bat-
tery. If damage is detected, do not use the ma-
chine. Have repairs performed only by a quali-
fied technician. Never open the machine your-
self.
■
The battery and charger match up. For charg-
ing, use only a Bosch charger intended for this
purpose.

■
Before inserting the battery, when changing
tools as well as when transporting and storing,
always place the rotational direction switch in
the middle position!
■
The rated voltage of the battery must agree
with the value on the machine.
■
Before using, make sure the battery fits se-
curely inside the machine.
■
Be careful when screwing in long screws, as
they can slide off.
■
Before any work on the machine itself, remove
the battery.
■
Protect the battery from heat and fire: Explo-
sion risk! Do not place the battery on radiators
or expose it to strong sun rays for a long time
period; temperatures over 50 °C cause dam-
age.
■
Allow heated batteries to cool before charging.
■
Do not open the battery and protect from im-
pact. Store in a dry and frost-free place.
■
During storage, cover the contacts of the re-
moved battery. A short circuit caused by a me-
tallic shorting contact can cause a fire or explo-
sion!
■
Do not quick charge the battery several times
in succession. Do not recharge the battery
again after using it for a short period (e. g.
3 minutes).
■
Bosch can only ensure a flawless functioning
of the machine when the original accessories
are used.
Battery Charging
A new rechargeable battery produces full power
only after approx. 5 charging and discharging cy-
cles. This applies also for batteries that have not
been used for a longer period of time.
The battery
6
is housed in the handle. Release
the battery
6
by pressing the grooved areas
12
on
both sides and pull downwards.
Do not use
force.
Please refer to the enclosed “Battery Charger” in-
structions for the operation of the battery charger
as well as for a description of the charging pro-
cess.
The battery is equipped with an NTC temperature
monitor which allows charging only within a tem-
perature range of 0 °C to 45 °C. This will prolong
the useful life of the battery. When used properly,
the battery can be recharged up to
3000 times
.
A substantial drop in the operating time per
charge indicates that the battery is worn out and
must be replaced.
■
Observe the indications regarding environ-
mental protection.
The efficiency of the Bosch NiMH batter-
ies drops significantly below –10 °C.
Grip rear collar and manually rotate front collar
until tight.
The locking is released again when the front col-
lar is turned in the opposite direction to remove
the tool.
Screwdriving
Clamp the screwdriver bit
5
directly in the drill
chuck or use an additional universal bit holder for
screwdriver bits (accessory magazine
8
).
Before Use
Changing the Tool
6
2 609 931 938 • TMS • 24.11.99
Inserting the Battery
Set the rotational direction switch
4
to the middle
position (locked off). Slide the charged battery
6
into the handle until you feel it has latched.
Switching On and Off
To switch on:
Press the on/off switch
3
.
To switch off:
Release the on/off switch
3
.
Infinitely Variable Speed Control
The machine runs with variable
speed between 0 and maximum de-
pending on the pressure applied to
the on/off switch
3
.
Light pressure results in a low rotational speed
thus allowing smooth, controlled starts.
Do not load the machine so heavily that it comes
to a standstill.
Changing the Rotational Direction
Operate the rotational direction switch 4
only at a standstill.
With the rotational direction switch
4
, the rota-
tional direction of the machine can be switched
(when the on/off switch
3
is operated, the rota-
tional direction switch
4
is locked).
Right Rotation
Press the rotational direction switch to the left as
far as it will go (normal operation: drilling, screw-
driving, etc.). The direction of rotation is indicated
by a stamped
“R”
.
Left Rotation
Press the rotational direction switch to the right as
far as it will go (loosening and unscrewing of
screws and nuts).
Setting the Torque
Screwdriving
5 different settings can be selected with the
torque setting ring
1
:
Low setting, e. g., small screws, soft ma-
terials.
High setting, e. g., large screws, hard
materials.
When the setting is correct, the overload clutch
opens as soon as the screw has been screwed in
flush into the material or as soon as the set torque
has been reached. For unscrewing, select a
highersetting or set to thedrill symbol. The proper
setting is best determined with practical trials.
Drilling
Set the torque setting ring
1
to the drill
symbol.
Run-On Brake
When the on/off switch
3
is released, the drill
chuck brakes to a stop, thus preventing the run-
on of the tool.
For screwdriving work, wait until the screw is
screwed in flush with the material and then re-
lease the on/off switch
3
. By doing so, the head of
the screw does not penetrate into the material.
Carrying strap (Optional extra)
The carrying strap
10
allows the wrist to carry the
machine comfortably and also protects the ma-
chine from being accidentally dropped.
With the help of the spring hook, attach the carry-
ing strap to the holding pin.
The carrying strap can be adjusted to the size of
the wrist with the adjusting slide
11
.
Magazine for Drills/Screwdriver Bits
(Optional Extra)
The tool magazine serves for the secure and eas-
ily accessible storage of the most commonly used
drills
7
and screwdriver bits
8
.
Removing the magazine:
Pull the magazine downward with a light tug.
Attaching the magazine:
Press on the magazine with light pressure until
you feel it has latched.
