Troubleshooting guide
Speaker will not turn on when using battery
Applies to:
SoundLink Color Bluetooth® speaker II
SoundLink Revolve Bluetooth® speaker
SoundLink Revolve+ Bluetooth® speaker
SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
Connect the speaker with its charging cable to a USB charger or a powered computer USB port.
You may need to do this for the following reasons:
The battery may not be sufficiently charged. The battery must have sufficient charge to power up
the speaker
The speaker has been disconnected from power and unused for 14 days. When this happens, it
goes into battery protection mode. Brand new speakers are typically in this mode when they're
first removed from the box
The speaker is unplugged and unused for more than three days with a remaining charge of less
than 10%. When this happens, it also goes into battery protection mode
If your speaker still does not turn on after connecting it to power, see Speaker will not turn on
when connected to AC power
Speaker will not turn on when connected to
AC power

If your speaker will not turn on when connected to AC power, try the following:
Make sure your speaker is connected to a working power outlet
Make sure both ends of the charging cable are firmly connected

Try another USB charging cable
Try another USB wall charger or powered computer USB port
If you are using a surge protector or multi-outlet converter, try plugging directly into the socket
Put the product into Ship Mode to reset it (your settings and stored devices will not be erased):
Connect the speaker's power cable
Press and hold the Multi-function button for 10 seconds
While continuing to hold the Multi-function button, unplug the speaker from power
Release the Multi-function button
Reconnect the power cable and test the speaker
Difficulty using Party and Stereo modes
Applies to:
SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
Please try the following steps if you are having trouble using the Party and Stereo feature:
Use the Connect app to pair speakers
Party and Stereo modes can be enabled either by using the Bose® Connect
app or manual pairing using the speaker buttons. However, the Connect app
pairing method is strongly recommended for two reasons:
The procedure on the Connect app is designed to be user friendly
The Connect app allows any combination of compatible speakers to enter Party or Stereo
modes. (For example, a Revolve and a Revolve+ can be paired together.) The manual method of
using the speaker buttons only allows you to pair two of the same speaker model

Make sure only one speaker is actively connected to the mobile device.
Stereo and Party mode will not work if both speakers are connected to the mobile device
Check software versions
The software needs to be up to date, as do both speakers, when using Party and Stereo modes. If
there is a mismatch of two speakers running on different firmware versions, it can result in
difficulty pairing
Try pausing audio when engaging Party or Stereo modes
Pause audio streaming to all speakers before turning on Party or Stereo mode
Rename the speakers in the Connect app
For ease of use, it is recommended for customers with two of the same
model speaker to rename the speakers in the Connect app so that they do
not share the exact same name
Perform a factory reset.
For information on performing a reset, see Resetting the speaker.
Note: A reset is used to correct occasional product issues. It is not something that a product
should require repeatedly.
Resetting the speaker
Applies to:
SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
Factory reset clears paired mobile devices and language settings from your speaker and returns it
to the original factory settings.
Turn the speaker on
Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds, until the Bluetooth® indicator glows Blue, and
you hear a voice prompt to select a language

Bluetooth® device will not connect to the
speaker
Applies to:
SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
If your Bluetooth device will not connect to the speaker, try the following suggestions to connect
your device:
Make sure Bluetooth is turned ON on your device
Try moving your device closer to the speaker. Bluetooth range is about 9 metres. Range is
reduced when interference is present, like walls or multiple Bluetooth devices in the same area
If two Bluetooth devices are already paired to the speaker, disable Bluetooth on one of the
devices, or take it out of range of the speaker. The speaker remembers the last eight paired
devices but can only pair to two devices at a time
Repeatedly press the speaker's Bluetooth button until you hear the name of the desired device
Go to the Bluetooth settings on your device, select the SoundLink® speaker and choose to
"Forget" or "Remove" the speaker. Next, briefly hold the Bluetooth button on the speaker until
the Bluetooth light begins flashing Blue. Try again to pair the device to the speaker
Reset the device you are trying to pair. This is typically done by rebooting/restarting it or
removing the battery and/or power cable for one minute
Clear the SoundLink® speaker's paired device memory by holding the Bluetooth button until you
hear a tone and, if enabled, a voice prompt. The speaker’s Bluetooth light begins flashing blue.
Try again to connect your device to the speaker
Reset the speaker by turning it on and then holding the power button for 10 seconds until it turns
off

A factory reset clears the speaker's language setting and its paired mobile device memory,
returning the speaker to original factory settings. Once reset, turn the speaker on and try again to
pair the device.
Try pairing another device. If the other device works, there may be an issue with the first device
Pairing with a Bluetooth® device
Applies to:
SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
To pair a Bluetooth® device:
With your speaker powered on, press and hold the Bluetooth® button until you hear "Ready to
connect" and the Bluetooth® indicator blinks blue
On the device you want to pair, turn on Bluetooth. This is typically found in the device's settings
menu
Select your speaker from the device list
Once paired, you hear "Connected to <mobile device name>", and the Bluetooth indicator glows
solid white
You can store up to eight paired mobile devices in the speaker pairing list.
To pair an additional mobile device:
Press and hold the Bluetooth® button until the Bluetooth® indicator blinks Blue and you hear
"Ready to pair another device"
Pair your device to the speaker using the steps above
You can store up to eight paired mobile devices in the speaker pairing list, and your speaker can
be actively connected to two mobile devices at a time.
However, you can only play audio from one device at a time.

To identify and switch between connected devices:
Press the Bluetooth® button to hear which devices are currently connected
Pause audio on your first device to switch to the second device
Play audio on your second device
To disconnect a device:
Turn off the Bluetooth feature on your device
To reconnect a device:
When powered on, your speaker tries to reconnect with the two most recently connected devices.
The devices must be within range (9 m or 30 ft) and powered on.
Selecting the audio output device on a PC
running Windows® XP

SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
To select the audio output device on a computer running the Windows® XP operating system,
follow these steps:
Click the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen
Click the Windows "Control Panel"

Click the "Sounds and Audio Devices" icon
Note: You may need to switch to "Classic View" in the top left-hand corner to see the System
Menu above.

The Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window appears. In the "Audio" tab, under the
"Sound Playback" selection, select the Bluetooth® device from the drop-down menu
If you made any changes, click "Apply," and then click "OK" to close the window
Selecting the audio output device on a PC
running Windows Vista®

SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
To select the audio output device on a computer running the Windows Vista® operating system,
follow these steps:
Click the "Start" button in the lower left-hand corner of the screen
Click "Control Panel"
In the Control Panel, click "Hardware and Sound"
In the Hardware and Sound menu, click "Manage audio devices"
In the "Playback" tab, highlight the Bluetooth® device
Once the Bluetooth® device is selected, click "Set Default"
If you made any changes, click "Apply", and then click "OK" to close the window
Stereo and Party mode
Applies to:
SoundLink Micro Bluetooth® speaker
You can pair your Bose speakers together to play in the following modes using the Bose®
Connect app (recommended) or the speakers' control buttons:
Party mode (left and right speakers in unison)
Stereo mode (left speaker and right speaker separate)
Refer to your Bose owner's guide to determine if your secondary speaker supports these modes.
Using Party and Stereo mode with the Bose® Connect app
Turn both speakers on.
Make sure at least one speaker is paired with your mobile device.
From the Connect app, select the Party mode icon at the bottom of your screen.
Select, "CONTINUE".
Wait for the speakers to connect. Once connected, you will be in Party mode.
Select, "STEREO (L/R)" to switch to Stereo mode.
Select, "STEREO (L/R)" again to switch back to Party mode.

Using Party mode manually
Make sure both speakers are powered on
Make sure a speaker is connected via Bluetooth® to your mobile device
On the speaker connected to your device, press and hold the Bluetooth and Volume +buttons
simultaneously
Release the buttons when you hear "Press the Bluetooth and volume down buttons
simultaneously on a second Bose device"
On the second speaker, press and hold the Bluetooth and Volume –buttons simultaneously
Release the buttons when the speaker emits a tone. After 10 seconds, you will hear "Party mode"
from both speakers simultaneously. Party mode is enabled. You are now able to play audio in
unison using your mobile device
Using Stereo mode manually
On one of the speakers, press the Bluetooth and Volume + buttons simultaneously
Release the buttons when you hear "Stereo mode". You hear "Left" from the left speaker and
"Right" from the right speaker. Stereo mode is enabled. You are now able to play audio in stereo
using your mobile device
Configure your speakers for Party mode. See steps above
To switch between Party and Stereo mode, press the Bluetooth and Volume +buttons
simultaneously.
To disable Party or Stereo mode, do one of the following on either speaker:
Press and hold the Bluetooth button until you hear "Bose speakers unlinked"
Press and hold the Multi-function and Volume +buttons simultaneously until you hear "Bose
speakers unlinked"
Press the Power button to power off the speaker
