Welcome to
Tunnel ‘n’ Tower Construction Kits are a unique modular building system
that will have children building, playing and learning all at the same time.
This instruction manual is a guide to getting started. Once the basic
concepts are understood, children can let their natural creativity flow, so
that they can…
Build. Play. Imagine.

are proudly designed and manufactured
in Australia.

Benefits for Children
Tunnel ‘n’ Tower Construction Kits help encourage:
•Fine and gross motor skill development
•Problem solving
•Spatial awareness
•Imaginative play and
•Social interaction
And perhaps more importantly, they’re really good fun!
Safety
Adult supervision is recommended when children are using the
construction kits, particularly with younger children. When using the kits,
consider the following:
•The cut edges of cardboard parts may pose a risk of papercuts.
•Kit components may still have some small cardboard discs (20mm) in
the bolt holes when first unpacked. These should be pushed out and
disposed of as they may present a choking hazard for very young
children.
•Structures are strongest when all components are firmly bolted
together. Complete the full construction before beginning to play.
•Tunnels are designed to be crawled through, not on top of. Climbing
on top of the structures may cause partial collapse, resulting in
damage to the cardboard components.
•Cardboard parts should be kept dry and away from heat sources.
Product Care Instructions
•Pack components away flat when not in use.
•If cardboard components need to be sanitised, use a light misting
spray of a disinfectant solution such as Glen-20.
•To sanitise bolts, spray or dip a disinfectant solution. Bolts are made
from UV stabilised plastic and may be dried in the sun.

Kit Components
Each kit contains 7 different cardboard components, each of which can
be connected to any other to build a variety of different structures –
cubbies, forts, castles etc.

Building Instructions
Start your first construction by connecting two Tall Tunnels together.
Stand the tunnels on their sides and line up the holes on the tabbed end
of one tunnel to those on the non-tabbed end of the other. Push a bolt
through each hole from the inside and thread the nuts on from the
outside. Once this first connection is made, the structure is self-
supporting.
Next, connect more Tall tunnels to create a base for your construction.

Step 1: Build the Base
The base is the network of tunnels that children can crawl through. With
a starter kit, you can create three or four tunnel bases. With a standard
kit you can create a base with up to eight tunnels.
To make a three-tunnel base, connect the tabbed end of one box to the
non-tabbed ends of two others. Where the two non-tabbed box edges
meet, use a Panel Connector to join them.
A three-tunnel base with a square opening can also be made using an
Unhinged Door to connect the tabbed ends of two of the Tall Tunnels.

To make a four-tunnel base, connect the tabbed ends of two Tall Tunnels
with the non-tabbed ends of two others.
To make a six tunnel (hexagonal) base, Connect the ends of 6 Tall
Tunnels, alternating between tabbed and non-tabbed ends.

To make a six-tunnel base with two pairs of side by side tunnels, set two
pairs of Tall Tunnels side by side with the view holes facing up, and
connect each pair with four bolts. Face the non-tabbed ends of the pair
inwards, then use two more Tall Tunnels, tabs inwards, to support the
ends.
Step 2: Build the Towers
Create a tower above the openings in the base. The walls of towers are
created with triangular tower and square tower components, or a
combination of these. Prior to using tower components, fold the tabs
inwards first, then outwards. Repeat this a few times so that the tabs
move more freely.
Triangular Tower components come as a flat strip. Start by folding the
strip around to make a triangle, with the tab on the inside, then bolt it
together.

Next, place it on top of a three-tunnel base, and bolt it down. Lastly,
add a tower top built from triangular doors. Two examples are shown
below.
Square tower components simply need to be opened out into a square
shape and bolted down.
Next, add a tower top. Add a
Hinged Door panel to create a
trapdoor. For a pyramid top,
use four triangular doors.

Step 3: Add Doors
Doors can be bolted to any opening. Doors can be made using:
•A Panel Connector and an Unhinged Door
•A Hinged Door panel
If connected to the top holes of a tall tunnel, a door will naturally fall to
close the opening. Doors can also be connected to the sides of tunnels.
Unhinged Doors can be used by bolting them to one side of a tabbed
end. If bolted to both sides, they can be used to block off the end of a
tunnel.

Step 4: Expand Your Model
If you’ve created the basic model, and still have parts left over, why not
extend the tunnels? To make longer tunnels, connect Tall Tunnels end to
end.
If connecting the tabbed ends, fold the tabs out to the sides and bolt
them together.
If connecting non-tabbed ends together, use a panel connector on each
side where the boxes meet. A panel connector can be placed across the
top for a stronger connection.
Over to You
The pages which follow show a few of the designs we’ve come up with.
Start by trying to build some of those. However, keep in mind that these
instructions are only meant to be a guide.
Every time we’ve let a group of children loose with one of our kits,
they’ve come up with something we hadn’t thought of. So, let their
natural creativity flow - make new designs, new towers, new
connections. Let them…
Build. Play. Imagine.
