Battery

The
Braun
Lite
510
uses
astandard
b1O-volt
battery
(Eveready
No.
497,Bright
StarblP,
Mallory
pF
4gior
similar).
The
battery
is
not
supplied
with
the
unit
but
is
available
atmost
camera
stores.
Place
battery
connector
block,
attached
topower
pack
cable,
on
terminal
end
of
battery,
observing
correct
pin-to-terminal
"
* " and
"-" polarity.
(No
dangerif
incorrectly
positioned,
butthe
unit
will
not
operate).
Press
down
on
connector
block
tobreak
safety
coating
on
battery
terminals
and
secure
it
tobattery
with
elastic
bands
supplied.
Now,
slip
batteryinto
case,
with
connector
block
on
top,
andinsert
slack
connecting
cableinto
spacenext
to
battery.
CAUTION:
Power
pack
switch
should
beinuoff,
position
when
connecting
ordisconnecting
battery.
Do
nottouch
exposed
batteryterminals
orcontactpins
(afterremoval
frombattery),
orasevere
electricshock
may
result.

Assembly

TheBraunLite510canbeassembled
andused
in
either
oftwoways.
A. Flash
Headon
GripHandle,mountedonUniversal
Bracket,
attached
to camera
tripod socket.
1.
Slip
flashhead
intoshoeon
grip
handle
andsecure
it
bytighteningthe
large
knurled
screw. ;
2.Pushhandlewithflashhead
attachedontobracket -i
untilhandleclicksinto
place.
Handlecanbe
positioned
onbracket
withflashheadfacinginanydirection,
providing
choiceof
directflashor
horizontalbounce ';
light.Todetach
handle,depressbutton
near
its
base
and
pull
up.
Thisalso
permits
off-cameraflashing.
3.Attachbracket
tocamera
tripodsocket,
usingthe
large
screwsupplied.
The
bracketalso
hasatripod
socketandthuscanbe
mountedonatripod
insteadof
onthe
camera.
(For
carryingorstorage,
thebracket
canbeattachedtothe
powerpack.)

Withthe
power
pack
cover
open,
plug
the
coiled
cord
leading
from
theflashhead
intothereceptacle
ontop
ofthe
pack.
Next,
usethe1
8" synch
cordstored
under
thecovertoconnecttheflash
head
tothePCterminal
oncamera
orshutter.
(Be
suretouse
the
"X"
terminal
if
camerahasmore
than
one.)
The
two-prong
plug
of
this
cordfitsthereceptacle
onsideofflashhead.
Longer
synch
cordsand
cordsforusewith
cameras
having
special
synchterminals
are
available
as
accessories.
After
connecting
bothcords
andclosing
the
powerpack
cover,flick
theswitch
ontopofthe
power
pack
to"on"
position,
andtheunitis
readytooperate.

with
the
BraunLite5'10.
Theunit's
r/rzooth
second
flashwillstopany
subjectmotion,even
atslow
shutterspeeds.Use
oft/nslh
second
speedor
faster
isrecommended,
however,
toprevent
ambient
light
fromaffectingtheexposure,
whichmay
happenat
slowershutterspeeds.
With
focal-plane
shutters,theelectronic
f
lash
setting
specifiedby
themakershould
beused.

Ontheback
ofthe
flash
head
aretwo
ready-lights.
After
theunitisswitched
onandafter
each
flash,
the
light
ontheleftwill
go
onfirst,usuallyin2
to3seconds
withafreshbattery.Theunit
can
now
beflashed,
but
will
deliveronlyhalfitsnormallight
output.
Exposure
should
beadjusted
accordingly.
lftheunitisnotflashed,
thesecondready-lightwill
go
onafewseconds
later.Thisindicatesthat
theunitis
fullyrecycled
andready
todeliverafull-powerflash.
Fullrecycling
takesonly3to5secondswith
a
fresh
battery.
Therectangular
buttononthe
backoftheflashhead
enables
you
tofiretheflashwithout
releasingthe
camera
shutter.ltisusedwithnon-X-synch
shuttersor
for
multiple
exposures,
"painting
withlight,"
etc.,as
well
as
for
testingtheunit.

a
glance.
Apertures
aremarked
at
the
topofthe
inner
dial,anddistancesontheouterring.All
you
do
is
preset
the
calculatorfortheASArating
of
thefilmin
your
camera.Thisis
donebyrotatingtheinnerdialuntil
thenumber
correspondingto
the
proper
ASA
rating
is
opposite
theblacktriangle.You
can
nowreadthecor-
rect
apertureopposite
each
flash-to-subjectdistance.
Notethatthese
settingsarevalidonlywhentheunitis
usedatf
ull
power,
withnormalbeamangle
(see
opposite
page)
and
aimed
directly
at
thesubject.
Exoosure
should
be
doubledforhalf-powerorwide-
beamshots
by
increasing
theindicatedapertureone
full
stop.Bounceflashmayrequire
