2. General Information
2.1 Use
The Nitro V2PX pulls any filtered liquid from a pressurized or unpressurized container. It chills the
liquid to 2°C. It infuses the liquid with atmospheric nitrogen.
2.2 Viscosity of Liquid
Ensure that your beverage has been filtered in order not to clog the precautionary pre-filter or if
that has been bypassed, not to clog the machine. Thick liquids risk slowing down the liquid pump
inside the Nitro Coffee machine. The Nitro V2PX comes with a pre-filter that is already fitted into
the intake tube. If the pre-filter is not attached you can risk damaging components inside the Nitro
Coffee system.
2.3 Beverage container
Any non-pressurized or pressurized container can be used depending on what is required. We
recommend using a BiB that comes with the Nitro V2PX. Every machine comes with 3 BiB bags and
1 BiB Adaptor.

3.2 Pouring
1. Assemble the tap handle.
2. Make sure the air-compressor switch at the bottom of the machine is switched off. If the red
light inside the switch is off, then the air compressor is off.
3. Plug in the power cord.
4. Connect the intake tube to the Nitro V2PX by pushing the male elbow coupler into the female
coupler at the bottom of the machine. If you need to release it then push the metal spring and it will
loosen. Make sure that the pre-filter is already attached to the tube. It comes attached upon delivery of
the Nitro Coffee machine. Make sure all tubes are pushed in very firmly to avoid air bubbles entering
the tube.
5. Connect the BiB Adaptor to your BiB bag of coffee or tea. Lift the collet of your BiB Adaptor
and place it on comfortably on the nozzle of the BiB bag. Note that the nozzle must be facing the
direction of the tube as that will be the flow of the liquid. Turn the screw at the far side of the BiB
Adaptor so that it pierces the nozzle and is securely in place.
a. The BiB Adaptor and nozzle are from Smurfit Kappa. You can use your own BiB
bags and adaptors if you choose. Simply attach your desired BiB Adaptor to the intake
tube and use a corresponding BiB bag with the appropriate nozzle
b. If you do not wish to use a BiB, simply remove the BiB adaptor from the end of
the intake tube. Drop the open end of the tube in any container. The Nitro V2PX will pull
from any pressurized or non-pressurized container.
6. Turn the air-compressor switch on.
7. Place your cup beneath the stout and pull the handle outward by 90°
8. Return the handle to the start position when you have completed the pour.
3.3 Temperature
The target dispense temperature is set at 2°C (+/- 1°C). The temperature control knob is in the
control panel at the side of the machine. To switch the cooling system off turn the knob to OFF.
Make sure there is a click when turning it off. To achieve the coldest temperature, turn the knob
to MAX.

3.4 Nitrogen Control
Locate the Nitrogen control knob in the control panel at the side of the machine. Pull it outwards
gently until it clicks out of place. Turn it towards the minus (-) sign to decrease the nitrogen and
towards the plus (+) to increase nitrogen. Push it gently until it clicks in place. Keep it between 0
for no Nitrogen and 2. The factory setting is at the recommended level at 1. If the gauge is over 2,
then it risks too many large bubbles in your Nitro beverage.
4. Storing
Before putting the Nitro V2PX out of service for a period longer than 2 weeks, we recommend a
thorough flush with an espresso cleaner. Follow the cleaning steps below. Store the Nitro V2PX in a
dust free environment between 2 C and 37 C.
5. Cleaning
The Nitro V2PX needs to be flushed with water every 24 hours. In addition, it must be cleaned every
14 days as described in the steps below. If it has not been used for a long period of time we recommend
cleaning it with a suitable espresso detergent.
1. Flush the Nitro Coffee machine with water every 24 hours. To do so, fill an empty bag with
clean water. Attach your Bag in Box Adaptor to the bag. Pull the tap so the Nitro Coffee
machine pulls the water and cleanses the machine.
2. For your cleaning cycle every 14 days please follow the remaining steps below.
3. Unscrew the stout and rinse it with fresh water. Screw it back on the tap.
4. Disconnect the pre-filter and unscrew it for inspection. Use tools if necessary as it is tightly
screwed. Clean the internal net and then reattach the cap. Reattach the pre-filter to the intake
tube. Make sure the tubes are firmly inserted.
5. Prepare a suitable espresso detergent in a jug. Dilute with room temperature water. Either fill
a bag with the espresso detergent solution and attach the BiB Adaptor; or fill an empty jug
with the espresso detergent solution, de-attach the BiB Adaptor, and drop the loose end of the
intake tube in the jug.
6. Pull the tap and allow the Nitro Coffee machine to draw the solution through the tubes until it
starts flowing from the tap. Follow the detergent manufacturer’s recommendations.

7. After use of an espresso cleaner, flush the unit with clean water as done in step 1. Then pull
the handle to let the Nitro Coffee machine release the remaining liquid.
8. Unscrew the entire tap at the base. Pull out the silicon tube pictured below and rinse well with
water. Re-insert the silicon tube and screw back the tap once complete. Note that the top part
of the silicon tube is blue and this should be at the further end inside the machine.
9. Switch of the air compressor and pull the handle again. This will release the pressure. Keep the
intake tube connected throughout.
6. Troubleshooting
Problem 1. I am not happy with the quality of my cascade
Remedy:
A) There may be ice in the tubes. It blocks the nitrogen from infusing.
1. Unplug the Nitro Coffee machine and wait 15 minutes. Repeat until the Nitro Coffee
machine starts pouring a cascade again.
B) There might be too much air entering the intake tube. This causes large bubbles to pour out at
the tap.
1. Tighten all connections to make sure there aren’t any air bubbles flowing through the
tube. Make sure that air isn’t being pulled from your source - the non-pressurized
container.
Problem 2. Nothing is pouring when I pull the tap
Remedy:
A) Make sure that all connections are connected firmly and that the air compressor is on.
B) If liquid is flowing through the tube before the pre-filter, yet nothing flows after the pre-filter,
then the pre-filter needs to be cleaned.
1. Disconnect the pre-filter and unscrew it for inspection. Use tools if necessary as it is
tightly screwed. Clean the internal net and then reattach the cap. Reattach the pre-
filter to the intake tube.
C) There might be a blockage inside the Nitro Coffee machine from the following:
1. Ice.
i. Unplug the Nitro Coffee machine entirely from the power supply and wait 15
minutes. Repeat until the Nitro Coffee machine starts to work again
2. Or, unfiltered liquid that has a lot of sediment or coffee residue.
i. Complete step 8 in the cleaning section (5). Check to see if there is a blockage.
ii. Test to see if the Nitro Coffee machine pours.
iii. If not, there may be a bigger blockage in the liquid pump. You will need to
unscrew the stout.
iv. Remove the BiB Adaptor and place a hose at the far end of the intake tube.
v. Turn the air compressor on.

vi. Pour water into the intake tube at a high pressure. Pull the tap (still without a
nozzle) to flush out any sediment that is stuck in the Nitro Coffee machine.
vii. The pressure of the water will force out any blockage.
viii. Reattach the stout to the tap.
ix. Reattach the BiB Adaptor to the intake tube.
x. Resume normal operation.
7. FAQ
Q. I just received my Nitro V2PX, how do I set it up?
A. Please follow the instruction manuals that come with the Nitro V2PX. It is easy to set up!
Q. Where do I put my Cold Brew coffee or tea?
A. Every Nitro V2PX comes with 3 BiB bags and a BiB Adaptor. You can fill the bags with your Cold
Brew and connect the BiB Adaptor to the nozzle of the BiB bag. Take the other end of the BiB Adaptor
and clip it into the Nitro Coffee machine from behind. Please watch our instructional video.
Q. Do I have to use BiB bags?
A. No, not necessarily. You can drop the accompanying tube that comes with the Nitro Coffee machine
into any container of Cold Brew. Once you pull the tap of the Nitro V2PX, it will then pull the Cold
Brew into the Nitro Coffee machine and start dispensing.
Q. Is the cleaning process easy?
A. Yes, you need to fill a container or BiB bag with 1 litre of water and pull the tap to draw the water
into the Nitro Coffee machine and out of the tap. This needs to be done daily to keep the tubes clean.
We recommend that this is also done with an espresso solvent dissolved into the water once every two
weeks. Steps on how to clean the Nitro Coffee machine can be found in the Nitro V2PX Operation
Manual.
Q. I am not getting enough crema, what should I do?
A. There are 3 possible reasons. First, rotate the nitrogen calibration by following the (+) sign to
increase the amount of nitrogen. Secondly, the pre-filter might be clogged and needs to be cleansed.
Thirdly, the Cold Brew coffee that you are using may be too oily, unfiltered, or brewed in a mineral
poor water. Please read more about water composition in our blog and what role it plays in creating a
creamy nitro coffee. Check out our troubleshooting section.
Q. I am getting large bubbles in my nitro Cold Brew coffee, what should I do?
A. There are 2 possible reasons. First, rotate the nitrogen calibration knob to decrease the amount of
nitrogen infused into your beverage. Secondly, make sure all the tubes are pushed in firmly and there
is no air seepage. Observe if there are any air bubbles flowing through the intake tube. Air that seeps
into the tubes will ultimately come out at the tap in the form of air bubbles. This will also happen if
your intake tube is sucking in air.
Q. My beverage is not cold enough, how do I make it colder?
A. Check to make sure there isn’t a power issue. If the air compressor is working then the problem is
not power related. Make sure the fridge knob is turned to its coolest setting. The temperature can be
adjusted on the thermostat knob on the back panel. The target pour temperature is 2°C. In cases of
continuous pouring temperature may rise to 5°C
Q. The Nitro V2PX is not pouring coffee, what should I do?
A. There are several reasons why this may happen. All of them are easily remedied. Please follow our
troubleshooting guide in this Operation Manual.
Q. When I pull the tap I get large bubbles followed by a creamy nitro, how do I make the entire
beverage consistently creamy?
A. We recommend purging before every pour. When pouring count 2 seconds and wait for any air
bubbles in the tap to come out and then tilt your glass beneath the pour and fill to the top.
Q. When I pour two glasses of nitro Cold Brew coffee, the second one is sometimes slightly less chilled
than the first one. Why is that?
A. We recommend pouring for 45 seconds and then pausing for 15 seconds before your 2nd pour. This
allows the coffee inside the fridge to chill to your desired temperature.
Q. The Nitro V2PX has a humming sound that comes and goes, why?
A. This is the sound of the fridge thermostat. When there is a humming sound this means that the

BROOD Nitro V2PX Operations Manual V2.2 Eng
8
fridge is cooling down to the pre-set temperature on the knob. When the sound stops this means that
the air compressor has also stopped as the desired temperature has been reached.
Q. I have the fridge set at the coolest possible temperature but the beverage is not cold enough, why is
this?
A. The variance between the Cold Brew coffee in your container/BiB and at the tap is 18 C. This
means if your Cold Brew coffee is 20 C then the nitro coffee at the tap will be 2 C.
Q. Do I need to keep a gap between the vents on the side and top of the Nitro V2PX and the nearest
wall?
A. Yes, just allow a few centimetres for the side vents and 10 cm from the top.
