Intended use
2 INTENDED USE
Improper use of the AC19 solenoid may be dangerous to
people, nearby equipment and the environment.
The TypeAC19 solenoid is used to operate valves that
control gaseous or liquid media.
▶AvalveoperatedbytheAC19solenoid istobeusedexclusively
withthepermissiblemediaspeciedinthedatasheetandfor
useinexplosiongroupIIC,category2Gorexplosiongroup
IIIC,category2DandtemperatureclassT4(seedetailsonthe
typelabelfortheExarea).
▶Thesolenoidmayonlybeusedfortheapplicationsspecied
in chapter “6 Device usage conditions” and in connection
withtheexternaldevicesandcomponentsrecommendedand
permittedbyBürkert.
▶Thetypeofprotectionused is the Ex encapsulation‘m’for
coilswithcableconnections.
▶Thetypeofprotectionfortheoptionallyinstalledterminalboxes
is‘e’forgasand‘t’fordust.
▶Prerequisitesforsafeandtrouble-freeoperationofthesystem
arepropertransport,storageandinstallationaswellascareful
operationandmaintenance.Anyotheroradditionaluseisnot
consideredpartoftheintended use.Bürkertwillnotbeliable
foranydamageresultingfromthis.Theuseralonebearsthe
risk.
▶Onlyusethedeviceasintended.
2.1 Ex approval
The explosion protection approval is only valid if you use the
modulesandcomponentsauthorisedbyBürkertasdescribedin
theseoperatinginstructions.
TheAC19solenoidmaybeusedonlyincombinationwiththeaddi-
tionalcomponentsapprovedbyBürkert,otherwisetheexplosion
protection approval is terminated. In the event of unauthorised
changes to the device, modules or components, the explosion
protectionapprovalisalsoterminated.

in the Ex area:

degreeofprotectionandvoltageonthetypelabelfortheEx
area.
▶Installation,operationandmaintenancemayonlybeper-
formedbyqualiedpersonnel.
▶Observe applicable safety regulations (also national safety
regulations) as well as the general rules for the technology
duringsetupandoperation.

5.2 Solenoid with cable outlet
TheTypeAC19solenoidisanelectromagneticvalveactuatorfor
various Bürkert valves. As a so-called central screwed coil it is
100%separatefromthevalve.Thevalveitselfisaclosedsystem
evenwhenthecoilisremoved.
Thesolenoidconsistsof:
• coilwinding,
• coilhousing(madeofepoxide),
• electricalconnectioncable,
• controlelectronics.
Actuationispossiblewithalternatingordirectcurrentduetothe
integratedbridgerectier.Aversionwithelectronicpowerswitching
toreducethepowerconsumptionintheoperatingstateisoptionally
available.
Thecoilisplacedoverthecoreguidetubeofthevalveandfastened
withanut.Itispositivelysecuredagainstrotationtowardthevalve.
Theoutletoftheelectricalconnectionlineisperpendiculartothe
coilaxis.Thecableisrmlyintegratedintothecoil.Theunionnut
isnotintendedtoberemoved.
Themetal valve components arebroughtintoelectrical contact
withthecoilattheinterfacebetweenthecoilandthevalve.The
metalcomponentsmustbeearthedviatheprotectiveconductor
ontheconnectionline.
5.3 Solenoid with terminal box
The solenoid setup is identical to the description under “5.2”,
buthereaterminalboxisadditionallybuiltin(see“Fig.2”).The
terminal box is certified by EU type approval test certificate
PTB15ATEX1011UorIECExPTB15.0037U.
Thecableoutletdirectioncanbeselectedbasedontheordering
information.Thecableoutletdirectioncanbealteredlater,buta
specialtoolis needed for that1). Aconnection set for additional
potentialequalisation is optionally included,seetheinformation
inchapter“8.2”.

6.1 Special conditions

▶Use suitable measures to ensure that electrostatic charges
cannotoccurintheExarea.
▶The device must not be used in areas with processes that
generateheavycharges,involveautomatedgrindingorcut-
ting,thesprayingofelectrons(e.g.nearelectrostaticpainting
equipment),orgeneratepneumaticallypropelleddust.
▶Cleanthedevicesurfacebygentlywipingitwithadampor
anti-staticclothonly.
6.1.2 Block installation
The AC19 coil is fundamentally designed for single installation.
Withblockinstallation,itisessentialthattheuserensuresthatthe
permittedambienttemperatureisnotexceededduetoreciprocal
heating.
6.2 Operating conditions
Thevalvefullsacoolingfunctionforthesolenoid.
Thesolenoidmustnotbeoperatedwithoutavalve.Thevalve
bodymustmeetthefollowingprerequisites:

Alargervalvebodywithbetterthermalconductivitymaybeused
atanytime.
6.3 Operating temperature range
Pay attention to the operating temperature range for each type

▶Checkelectricalcontinuitybetweentheprotectiveconductor
ofthecoilandthecoreguidetubeofthevalve.
With solenoids with terminal boxes, you must also ensure
that you:
▶Onlyinsertpermanentcablesandlines.
▶Usesuitablecableandwiringguides(seechapter“8”).Pay
attentiontotheprovisionsintheoperatinginstructionsincluded.
▶Intheterminalboxes,onlyconnectwireswithterminalconnec-
tionsmeasuringbetween0.5mm2and2.5mm2.
▶Tightentheterminalscrewswith0.25Nm.
▶Lockhousinglidproperly.Tightenlockingscrewwith2Nm.
▶Checktheconsistencyoftheprotectiveearthconnection.
▶Onlyopenthehousinglidwhenthepoweriso.
▶Thetemperatureresistanceofthecablemustbemin.15K
abovethemax.ambienttemperature.
▶Usecableendsleevesonexiblelines.
▶Theexternalearthconnectionterminals,suppliedinabag
andgluedintothehousinglid,mustberemovedwhen
installingthedevice.
