Step2:Removethecartridgefromthefilterhousingandfillwith12cupsofhouseholdbleach(mosthousehold
bleachesare5.25%chlorine).Replacefilterhousingandslowlyturnonthewatersupply.
Step3:Gotoeachlocationinthehomeorfacility(includingoutdoortaps)andrunsomewateruntilchlorinecan
be detected (by smell). Ensure all taps, dishwashers, shower heads, washing machines, toilets, showers,
refrigerators,etc.areallchecked.Oncethechlorineisdetectedateachlocationclosealltapsandletthechlorine
sitinthelinesforaminimumof30minutes.
Step4:After30minutes,reinstallthefiltercartridgeintothefilterhousingandthenflushthechlorinesolutionby
openingalltapsand letthemrununtilchlorinecan nolongerbedetected(bysmell).Yourhomehasnow been
completelydisinfectedwithyourCALMAGYORKSHIRELIMITEDUVsystemreadytoinactivateanymicroorganisms
thatenterthehome.
PLEASE NOTE:This procedure must be performed following any time the UV is shut down for service, without
power,orisinoperativeforanyreasoninordertoavoidpossiblecontaminationofthewaterlines.
CleaningtheQuartzSleeve
Dependingonthewaterquality,thequartzsleevemayrequireperiodiccleaning.Ataminimum,thequartzsleeve
shouldbecleanedonanannualbasis.Thefollowingstepsoutlineabasiccleaningprocedure.
Step1:Ifthesystemhasaninletshutoffvalve,shutthisvalveofftopreventwaterflowthroughthesystem.If
thereisnoinletshutoffvalve,turnoffmainwaterinletvalve(andturnofwaterpumpifyouhaveone).
Step2:DisconnectpowercordoftheUVsystemfromtheelectricaloutlet.
Step3:Release the water pressure by opening a downstream tapand close the outlet shutoff valve if the
installationincudesone(ifthereisnooutletshutoffvalve,bepreparedforwaterleakagefromthesystemasthe
headpressureinthesystemwillcausewatertoflowbackthroughtheoutletplumbingandthroughtheunit).
Step4:RemovethecaptivegroundscrewfromthegroundlugontheUVunit.
Step5:Removethelampconnectorfromtheunit(glandnut)bypushingtheconnectorinandturningit¼turn
counterclockwise(gentlypullonthelampcabletoensuretheconnectorisseatedproperly).
Step6:Pulllampoutofunitstillattachedtoconnector.
Step7:Removetheglandnutfromtheunitexposingtheendofthequartzsleeve.
Step8:CarefullypullthequartzsleeveoutoftheunitandremovetheOring.
Step 9:Usingasoft,lintfree cloth or towel wipe the sleeve down using a good commercial scale cleanerto
remove any scaling or irondeposits that may be on the outside of the quartz sleeve. Becareful not to get any
moistureorliquidsontheinsideofthesleeve.
Step10:Wipethesleevewithseparatedrycloth.
Step11:OncethesleeveiscleanedreplacetheOringandslidethesleevebackintotheunitfollowingthesteps
outlinedonpage8ofthemanual.Becarefulnottodamage/crackthesleeveoninsertion.
