Thank you for purchasing a Canon product.
The EOS DIGITAL REBEL XS/EOS 100OD is a digital single-lens reflex
camera with a 10.1O-megapixel image sensor The camera provides
many features such as high-speed, 7-point autofocus to quickly focus
moving subjects, Picture Styles to expand your photographic
expression, diverse shooting modes from Fuii Auto to Creative modes,
and Live View shooting
it also incorporates the EOS integrated Cleaning System to eliminate
dust spots on images and the Self Cleaning Sensor Unit to shake off
dust on the sensor.
Take a Few Teat Shots to Familiarize Youraeff with the
Camera
With a digitat camera, you can immediately view the Smageyou have
captured. While reading this manual, take a few test shots and see how
they come out. You can then better understand the camera
To avoid botched pictures and accidents, read the Safety Warnings
(p 186,187) and Handling Precautions (p 12,13}.

After shooting playback and check whether the image has been

Basic Assumptions
All operations explained in this manual assume that the power switch
is already set to <ON>
It is assumed that all the menu settings and Custom Functions are
set to the default.

® This camera is a precision instrument¸ Do not drop it or subject it to physical
shock
_>The camera is not waterproof and cannot be used undeHvater If you
accidentalEy drop the camera into water, promptly consuEt your nearest
Canon Service Center Wipe off any water droplets with a dry cloth If the
camera has been exposed to salty air, wipe with a we]E-wrung wet cloth
_>Never Eeavethe camera near anything having a strong magnetic fieJd such
as a magnet or electric motor AJso avoid using or leaving the camera near
anything emitting strong radio waves such as a Jarge ar_tenna Strong
magnetic fields can cause camera misoperation or destroy image data

HandlingP_ecautions
LCD Monitor
_ Aghough the LCD monitor is manufactured with very high precision
technology with over 9999% effective pixels, there might be a few deed
pixels among the remaining 00f % or Jess pixels Dead pixels displaying
only black or red, etc, are not a malfunction They do not affect the images
recorded
_ If the LCD monitor is left on for a prolonged period, screen bum-in may occur
where you see remnants of what was displayed However, this is only
temporarily and will disappear when the camera is left ur_used for a few
days
Cards
_ Cards are precision devices Do not drop the card or subiect it to vibration
Doing so could damage the images recorded on them
_ Do not store or use the card near anything having a strong magnetic field
such as a TV set, speakers, or magnet Also avoid places prone to having
static electricity. Otherv¢ise, the images recorded on the card might be lost
_ Do not leave the card in direct sunlight or near a heat source Doing so can
warp the cards and make them unusable
_ Do not spill any _iquid onto the card
_ Always store your cards in a case to protect the data stored on them
_ Do not bend the card or sabiect it to any excessive force or physical shock
Do not store the card in hot, dusty, or humid locations
Lens EJectricaI Contacts Contacts
After detaching the lens from the camera, attach the lens
caps or put down the lens with the rear end up to avoid
scratching the lens surface and electrical contacts
Cautions Durir_g ProJor_ged Use
When you shoot continuously for a prolonged perfod or use Live View shooting
for a long period, the camera may become hot Although this is not a
malfunction, holding the hot camera for a long period can cause slight skin
burns
