CANON SOFTWARE LICENCE AGREEMENT
IMPORTANT: READ THIS AGREEMENT CAREFULLY BEFORE CLICKING “YES” AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN AND
INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE.
This agree ent (“Agree ent”) is a legal contract between you, either an individual or entity, and Canon Inc. (“Canon”)
governing your use of this software progra and “online” or electronic docu entation, if any (collectively, the
“SOFTWARE”).
BY CLICKING “YES” BELOW, YOU AGREE TO BE BOUND BY THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT. IF YOU DO NOT AGREE
TO THE TERMS OF THIS AGREEMENT, YOU MAY NOT INSTALL OR OTHERWISE USE THE SOFTWARE. IN SUCH CASE,
CLICK “NO” BELOW, CLOSE THIS SET UP PROGRAM AND EXIT THIS SCREEN; IF YOU OBTAINED THIS SOFTWARE
THROUGH A RETAILER, PLEASE RETURN THE PACKAGE TO WHERE YOU OBTAINED IT.
In consideration of the right to use the SOFTWARE, you agree to abide by the ter s and conditions of this Agree ent.
1. GRANT OF LICENSE
Canon grants you the personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use (“use” shall ean storing, loading,
installing, executing or displaying) the SOFTWARE on a single co puter solely for use with Canon’s digital video
ca corder products. You ay physically transfer the SOFTWARE fro one co puter to another, provided that the
SOFTWARE is used on only one co puter at a ti e. You shall not install or use the SOFTWARE on a network,
ultiple CPU, ultiple site arrange ent, or any other hardware configuration where the SOFTWARE is accessible to
ore than one CPU or to ore than one user.
You ay ake one copy of the SOFTWARE solely for backup purposes, or copy the SOFTWARE onto the per anent
storage device (e.g. hard disk) of your co puter and retain the original for back-up purposes, provided that you
shall reproduce on such backup copy the sa e copyright notice and other ownership legends exactly as and where
they appear on the SOFTWARE as delivered. Any other copying of the SOFTWARE is a violation of this Agree ent.
2. RESTRICTIONS
You shall not, or allow any third party to, assign, sublicense, sell, rent, lease, loan, convey or otherwise use, transfer,
copy, translate, convert to another progra ing language, alter, odify, deco pile or disasse ble the SOFTWARE,
in whole or in part, except as expressly provided for or granted herein. You shall not re ove, obliterate or cancel
any copyright notice appearing on the SOFTWARE or on a ediu , if any, on which the SOFTWARE delivered.
3. OWNERSHIP
All rights, including but not li ited to copyrights and trade secret rights, to the SOFTWARE belong to Canon, its
affiliated corporations and third party licensors. Your use of the SOFTWARE is subject to the laws of the United
States, and Canada, and other applicable copyright and trade ark laws, and nothing in this Agree ent constitutes
a waiver of the rights of Canon, its affiliated corporations and third party licensors under such laws. You only own
the CD-ROM edia in which the SOFTWARE is stored. Except as expressly provided herein, no license or right,
express or i plied, is hereby conveyed or granted by Canon to you for any intellectual property of Canon.
4. EXPORT RESTRICTIONS
You agree to co ply with all export laws and restrictions and regulations of the country involved, and not to export
or re-export, directly or indirectly, the SOFTWARE in violation of any such laws and restrictions and regulations, or
without all necessary approvals.
5. SUPPORT AND UPDATE
Neither Canon, nor its subsidiaries, dealers or distributors will be responsible for providing aintenance or support
for use of the SOFTWARE. No updates, fixes or support will be ade available for the SOFTWARE.
6. LIMITED WARRANTY AND DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
It is your responsibility to choose, aintain and atch the hardware and software co ponents of your co puter
syste . Thus, Canon does not guarantee uninterrupted service or correction of errors or that the functions or
perfor ance pf the SOFTWARE will eet your require ents. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY
APPLICABLE LAW, CANON AND ITS SUPPLIER PROVIDE THE SOFTWARE “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OR
CONDITION OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY. The CD ROM storing the SOFTWARE, if any,
is warranted only against defective aterial under nor al use for a period of ninety (90) days after purchase fro
an authorized Canon dealer as evidenced by your sales receipt. Your sole re edy for a defective CD-ROM shall be
replace ent of the sa e without charge when returned by you at your expense to your point of purchase and
proven to be defective upon inspection. The Replace ent CD-ROM will be warranted for the re ainder of the
original ninety-day (90) warranty period of the defective CD-ROM. This li ited warranty does not apply if the
failure of the CD-ROM resulted fro accident, abuse, or isapplication of the SOFTWARE and shall not extend to
anyone other than the original user of the SOFTWARE.

(INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), STRICT LIABILITY, BREACH OF CONTRACT OR BREACH OF WARRANTY OF CANON
OR ANY SUPPLIER, OR OTHERWISE EVEN IF CANON, CANON’S SUBSIDIARIES OR AFFILIATES, THEIR DISTRIBU-
TORS OR DEALERS HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES.
NEITHER CANON, NOR ANY OF CANON’S SUBSIDIARIES, DISTRIBUTORS OR DEALERS SHALL HAVE ANY

7. TERM
This Agree ent is effective upon your acceptance hereof by clicking “YES” below and re ains in effect until
expiration of all copyright interests in the SOFTWARE unless earlier ter inated. You ay ter inate this
Agree ent by destroying the SOFTWARE including any and all copies thereof. This Agree ent shall also
ter inate without notice to you if you fail to co ply with any of the ter s of this Agree ent. In the event that
this Agree ent ter inates for your failure to co ply, you ust pro ptly destroy the SOFTWARE including any
and all copies thereof. In addition, Canon ay enforce its other legal rights.
8. U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS NOTICE
The SOFTWARE is a “co ercial ite ,” as that ter is defined at 48 C.F.R. 2.101 (Oct 1995), consisting of
“co ercial co puter software” and “co ercial co puter software docu entation,” as such ter s are used
in 48 C.F.R. 12.212 (Sept 1995). Consistent with 48 C.F.R. 12.212 and 48 C.F.R. 227.7202-1 through 227.7202-4
(June 1995), all U.S. Govern ent end users shall acquire the SOFTWARE with only those rights set forth herein.

9. SEVERABILITY
In the event that any provision of this Agree ent is declared or found to be illegal by any court or tribunal of
co petent jurisdiction, such provision shall be null and void with respect to the jurisdiction of that court or
tribunal and all the re aining provisions of this Agree ent shall re ain in full force and effect.
10. CONTROLLING LAW
The ter s of this Agree ent as it relates to purchases of the SOFTWARE in the United States of A erica shall be
governed and construed in all respects in accordance with the laws and regulations of the State of New York,
without reference to choice of law principles. The ter s of this Agree ent as it relates to purchases of the
SOFTWARE in Canada shall be governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario.
11. ACKNOWLEDGMENT
CLICKING “YES” BELOW AND SUBSEQUENTLY USING THE SOFTWARE, YOU AGREE THAT YOU HAVE READ THIS
AGREEMENT, UNDERSTOOD IT AND AGREE THAT THIS AGREEMENT IS THE COMPLETE AND EXCLUSIVE
STATEMENT OF AGREEMENT BETWEEN YOU AND CANON CONCERNING THE SUBJECT MATTER HEREOF AND
SUPERSEDES ALL PROPOSALS OR PRIOR AGREEMENTS, ORAL OR WRITTEN, AND ANY OTHER COMMUNICA-
TIONS BETWEEN YOU AND CANON RELATING TO THE SUBJECT MATTER HEREOF. NO AMENDMENT TO THIS
AGREEMENT SHALL BE EFFECTIVE UNLESS SIGNED BY A DULY AUTHORIZED OFFICER OF CANON.

CD-ROM(s). Playing the CD-ROM(s) in an audio CD player ( usic player) could

with headphones to the loud sound of a CD-ROM played on a usic CD player.

¡In this anual, the operating odes of ca corders are described as following:
– TAPE CAMERA ode: Mode for recording video and sound to tape.
– TAPE PLAY (VCR) ode: Mode for playing back video and sound recorded on
a tape.
– CARD PLAY (VCR) ode: Mode for playing back i ages recorded on a
e ory card.
¡Please note that the screens used in this anual ay change.

Refer to the instruction anual of your co puter for the type of the DV cable.
• Speaker or Headphones (when using DV Messenger)
Requirements for Using the DV Messenger
To use DV Messenger, it is required that Windows XP is installed and Windows
Messenger 4.5 or higher operates correctly.
Make sure to confir the following before installing the DV Messenger.
1. Windows XP and Windows Messenger 4.5 or higher are installed*.
2. Windows Messenger operates and its videoconference function can be used
with a digital video ca corder.*
3. If you are using a router for Internet connection: your router is UPnP (Universal
Plug and Play) co patible.**
(So e ode s are equipped with a router function. For details, refer to the
anual of the ode .)
* This software is co patible with Windows XP only. It cannot be used with
other Operating Syste s. Further ore, Windows Messenger 4.5 or higher is
required. Establish an environ ent that allows the use of this software. Please
consult Microsoft for details.
** This software requires an UPnP (Universal Plug and Play) co patible router. It
cannot be used with other routers. For details, consult your Internet service
provider, telephone carrier or router anufacturer, or refer to the anual of
the router.
Caution:
¡Be aware that your contact can access the contents of the tape or e ory card
in your ca corder when using DV Messenger.

CPU: Pentiu 500 MHz or better (800 MHz or better

¡A CD-ROM drive is required to install the software.
¡Connect the ca corder directly to the co puter using a DV (IEEE1394) cable.
¡The connection ay not operate correctly if the ca corder is connected via a
repeater or other IEEE1394 devices.
¡Do not connect two or ore ca corders to the sa e co puter via the
IEEE1394 interface. The connections ay not operate correctly.
¡Do not connect two or ore IEEE1394 devices to the sa e co puter. The
connections ay not operate correctly.
¡Do not connect another IEEE1394 device while the AV/C Ca era Storage
Subunit-WIA Driver is operating. The connection ay not operate correctly.

What Can Be Accomplished With the Software
This topic introduces the ain features of the software contained on the DV
NETWORK SOLUTION DISK.
Canon ca corders only (refer to the table on the next page)
The AV/C Ca era Storage Subunit-WIA Driver is a software that allows you to use
your ca corder as a card reader/writer by connecting ca corder and co puter,
both equipped with a DV (IEEE1394) ter inal, with a DV (IEEE1394) cable.

The DV Messenger is a software that operates with Windows Messenger
preinstalled on Windows XP. You can use following operations with your digital
ca corder via the Internet.
■Real-Time Video Communication (Videoconference) ( 33)
You can use your ca corder and co puter for real-ti e video and voice
co unication.
■Sending Movies ( 33)
You can send video and sound recorded with the ca corder via the Internet.

You can operate the ca corder connected to your co puter and the
ca corder connected to your contact's co puter. (Your contact needs to have
DV Messenger installed.)

File transfer: If your contact has a ca corder with an asterisk (*) below, you can
transfer files fro the e ory card in the ca corder of your contact to your
co puter.

¡If you leave the ca corder turned on for a long ti e, heat generation ay
cause da age to the ca corder. Turn off the ca corder after use.
¡Tapes ay be da aged if left in the ca corder for a long ti e. Do not leave
tapes in the ca corder to prevent da age.

With this procedure, the DV Messenger will be installed and the driver files for the
AV/C Ca era Storage Subunit-WIA Driver will be copied to your co puter. For
the installation procedure of the AV/C Ca era Storage Subunit-WIA Driver, see p.
12.
Installation Precautions:
¡DV Messenger cannot be installed with Windows Messenger older than version 4.5.
Download the latest version fro the Microsoft ho epage and update your
Windows Messenger if necessary. Please consult Microsoft for details.
¡Do not connect the ca corder to the co puter when installing fro the DV
NETWORK SOLUTION DISK.
¡Close all progra s that are running before copying the driver files.
¡Users of Windows XP Professional ust first log in as an Ad inistrator to install
progra s.

Set the DV NETWORK SOLUTION DISK in the computer’s CD-
ROM drive.
• If the version of your Windows Messenger is older than 4.5, a dialog
appears indicating that DV Messenger cannot be installed. If you wish to
install only the AV/C Ca era Storage Subunit-WIA Driver, close the dialog
and proceed with the installation.
• A dialog pro pting you to choose your language appears auto atically.

Installation Precautions:
¡Install the driver files fro the DV NETWORK SOLUTION DISK first before installing
the driver ( 10).
¡Close any progra s that are running before installing the driver.

Start the computer.

• Depending on the setting of your co puter, a video editing progra ay
start. In such case, close this progra .
• If the installation is co plete, the [Scanner and Ca era Wizard] or a dialog
for selecting an application appears. Click [Cancel] to close the dialog.

Check if the driver has been installed correctly.
• Fro the [start] enu, select [My
Co puter] and check if the ca era
icon appears. If the ca era icon
does not appear, the installation has
not been co pleted properly.
Uninstall ( 16) and reinstall the
driver ( 10).
Caution:
¡Still i ages/ ovies recorded onto the e ory card or downloaded to the hard disk
are i portant original data files. Create a copy of these files first before working on
the on your co puter.
■If the Driver Has Been Installed Properly
¡If a e ory card is inserted into the ca corder, the [Scanner and Ca era Wizard]
opens auto atically. Proceed to step 5 “Downloading Still i ages/Movies to a
Co puter” ( 23).
¡If no e ory card inserted in the ca corder, following dialog appears. Click [OK]
to close the dialog.
¡If a WIA-co pliant application software is already installed, a dialog for selecting an
application appears. We reco end selecting the [Scanner and Ca era Wizard].
Click [OK], and the [Scanner and Ca era Wizard] starts. Proceed to step 5 of
“Downloading Still I ages/Movies to a Co puter” ( 23). If you wish to start
[Scanner and Ca era Wizard] auto atically each ti e you connect the ca corder
to the co puter, put a check ark next to [Always use this progra for this action].

Installing the Software
■Setting the Application Not to Start Automatically
When you install the driver, the co puter is set to auto atically start an applica-
tion each ti e you connect the ca corder to the co puter. Use the following
procedures to change the setting.

Connect the power adapter to the camcorder.

¡If the started application displays a essage such as [TWAIN data source not found.
Reinstall the scanner software.], select [WIA-Canon Ca era Storage] and use the
WIA-TWAIN Driver.

Uninstalling the Software
Uninstall the software if it has not been installed correctly or if it is not required
any ore.
Caution:
¡Close all progra s that are running before uninstalling.

[DV Messenger] and [DV Messenger Uninstall] in succession.

If a confirmation dialog appears, click [Yes].

Hardware].
¡If the Ca era icon does not appear in the [Scanners and Ca eras] folder.

From the [start] menu, select [My Computer] and double-click
the [C:], [WINDOWS] and [INF] folders in succession.
If the [INF] Folder Is Not Visible in the [WINDOWS] Folder
Use the following procedures to show all files and folders.
1. Click the [Tools] enu and select [Folder Options].
2. Click the [View] tab.
3. In the [Advanced setting] section, set the [Hidden files and folders]
category to the [Show hidden files and folders] options.
• If [Hide extensions for known file types] is selected, re ove its check ark.
