IMPORTA T SAFEGUARDS
When using electrical appliances, basic safety precautions should always be
followed, including:
1. Read all instructions before using the product.
2. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use only the handle until the percolator has
completely cooled down. Care must be taken, as burns can occur from
touching hot parts or from spilled, hot liquid.
3. To protect against electric shock, do not place cord, plug, or percolator in
water or other liquid.
4. Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near
children.
5. Unplug from outlet when the percolator is not in use and before cleaning.
Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts and before cleaning the
appliance.
6. Percolator must be operated on a flat surface away from the edge of
counter to prevent accidental tipping.
7. Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug or after the
appliance malfunctions, or has been damaged in any manner. Return
appliance to an authorized service facility for examination, repair or
adjustment.
8. The use of accessories not recommended by Capresso may result in fire,
electric shock or injury to persons.
9. Do not use outdoors.
10. Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter or touch hot surfaces.
11. Do not place percolator on or near a hot gas or electric burner or in a
heated oven.
12. Do not operate the percolator without water.
13. Always attach plug to appliance first, then fill the percolator with water and
coffee, and finally plug cord into wall outlet. To disconnect, remove plug
from wall outlet before removing plug from unit.
14. Do not operate appliance without adding the minimum amount (16 oz.) of
water first.
15. Ensure lid/cover is securely in place and in the locked position during
brewing cycle and when serving coffee. (Fig. 6)
16. Scalding may occur if lid/cover is removed during the brewing cycle.
17. Never operate the percolator without the glass lid insert fully locked into
the lid.
18. Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
19. Never use the appliance if the carafe or lid show any signs of cracks or
carafe has a loose or weakened handle.
20. WAR I G: To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove the
bottom cover. No user-serviceable parts are inside. Repair should be done
by authorized service personnel only.

Regarding your cord set:
A. A short detachable power-supply cord is to be provided to reduce risks
resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord.
B. Longer detachable power-supply cords or extension cords may be
used if care is exercised in their use.
C. If a long detachable power-supply cord or extension cord is used,
1) The marked electrical rating of the longer detachable power-supply
cord or extension cord should be at least as great as the electrical
rating of the appliance,
2) If the appliance is of the grounded type, the extension cord should
be a grounding type 3-wire cord, and
3) The longer cord should be arranged so that it will not drape over the
countertop or table top where it can be pulled on by children or
tripped over.
D. This product is provided with a grounded (3-prong) plug to reduce the
risk of electric shock. The plug fits only one way into a grounded outlet.
Do not defeat the safety purpose of the plug by modifying the plug in
any way or by using an adapter. If the plug does not fit into the outlet,
have an electrician replace the outlet.
E. To avoid an electrical circuit overload, do not use another high wattage
appliance on the same circuit with this appliance.

This appliance is for household use. Any servicing other than cleaning
and user maintenance should be performed by an authorized service
representative.
• Do not immerse base in water or try to disassemble.
• To reduce the risk of fire or electric shock, do not remove the base.
No user serviceable parts inside. Repair should be done by authorized
service personnel only.
• Never use warm or hot water to fill the water container! Use cold water
only!
• Keep your hands and the cord away from hot parts of the appliance
during use. Touching the percolator body or lid during operation can
result in severe injuries or burns. Only use handle when percolator is hot.
• Never clean with scouring powders or hard implements.

Before First Use
Check that all printed materials and packing materials are removed from the
machine prior to use. Wash all parts according to the steps in "Cleaning &
Maintenance" to remove any dust or residue prior to making coffee.
Making Coffee
Percolators produce very hot water. If you follow the sequence as described
below you will avoid possible accidents which might cause severe injuries and
burns.
1. Plug cord into the percolator base (Fig. 4).
2. Remove lid (Fig. 6), coffee basket, coffee basket lid and tube.
3. Fill the body of the Capresso Perk with cold water to the desired cup level
as indicated on the inside of the percolator (Fig. 2).
CAUTIO : Never operate the percolator without water inside as this could
damage the machine.
4. Wet the interior of the coffee basket to keep small coffee grounds from
sifting through the bottom of the basket. Place coffee basket on tube. old
the top of the tube and place tube and coffee basket into the heating well
(Fig. 5). IF THE TUBE IS OT SEATED PROPERLY I THE HEATI G
WELL, THE PERCOLATOR WILL OT PERK.
5. Add coarsely ground coffee into the basket to the desired cup level marking
(Fig. 3). Avoid using finely ground coffee as this could sift through the holes.
Avoid getting coffee grounds into the tube by placing your finger over the
tube opening while adding ground coffee. Refer to the “Coffee Making
Chart” that follows for adding the right amount of coffee. Spread coffee
evenly in basket. Place coffee basket lid on top of the coffee basket.
6. Place lid onto percolator body using the markings to help lock in place.
(Fig. 6) Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing cycle!
7. Ensure the cord is plugged into the percolator; then plug the cord into an
electrical outlet. The unit automatically turns on and will begin to heat.
8. Once the brewing cycle is complete the indicator light will illuminate and the
machine will switch automatically to the keep warm function. Allow about
1 minute per cup for brewing time.

CAUTIO : Body of percolator will get very hot during brewing. Always use
the handle (Fig. 1, I) when touching the percolator after brewing. Always
wait until the percolator has cooled down sufficiently before attempting to
empty the grounds from the coffee basket.
9. The percolator will remain at serving temperature until it is unplugged.
10. Remove plug from percolator for serving.
11. When finished serving coffee, the plug can be replaced to keep coffee hot.
Always keep the appliance unplugged when not in use.
CAUTIO : Do not touch the stainless steel or glass parts of the percolator
until the machine has completely cooled down. The stainless steel and
glass parts will be extremely hot after brewing, always use caution when
handling the hot percolator. Only use the handle (Fig. 1, I) when touching
the hot percolator.
OTE: We recommend using coffee that has been ground
specifically for use in a percolator-type coffee maker. If grinding
whole beans, set the coffee grinder to a coarse grind. A finely
ground coffee may leave sediment in your cup or cause the
coffee basket to overflow.
Heating Water
The Capresso Perk can be used to make hot water for tea, hot cocoa or instant
coffee.
1. Plug cord into the percolator base (Fig. 4).
2. Remove lid (Fig. 6), coffee basket, coffee basket lid and tube.
3. Fill the body of the Capresso Perk with cold water to the desired cup level
as indicated on the inside of the percolator (Fig. 2).
4. Place coffee basket on tube. old the top of the tube and place tube and
coffee basket into the heating well (Fig. 5). (Using the tube and basket will
speed heating time.) Place coffee basket lid on coffee basket.
5. Place lid onto percolator body using the markings to help lock in place.
(Fig. 6). Scalding may occur if the lid is removed during the brewing
cycle! Ensure the cord is plugged into the percolator; then plug the cord
into an electrical outlet. The unit automatically turns on. Water is hot when
indicator light illuminates.

CAUTIO : Do not touch the stainless steel or glass parts until the machine
has completely cooled down. The stainless steel and glass parts will be
extremely hot after heating, always use caution when handling the hot
percolator. Only use the handle (Fig. 1, I) when touching the hot percolator.
Cleaning & Maintenance
1. After each use, unplug cord from outlet then remove cord from the percolator.
Let cool completely before cleaning as the parts will be very hot after brewing
or heating.
2. Remove lid, coffee basket, coffee basket lid and tube. Wash these parts in
hot, soapy water. (These parts can also be washed on the upper rack of the
dishwasher).
WAR I G: Do not put percolator body or power cord in dishwasher or
immerse in water!
3. Rinse all parts thoroughly and dry.
OTE: Make sure the washer at bottom of the tube
remains loose. If coffee grounds get stuck in this
area, remove them under running water or with a
wooden toothpick. Then rinse and dry.
4. Fill the percolator half-full with hot water. Add a drop
of liquid dishwashing detergent and wash the inside
of the percolator. Use a soft sponge and clean the
inside of the heating well. This part must be properly
cleaned to maintain the proper operation of the percolator.
Do not immerse percolator body or power cord in water!
Do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners on the percolator body as
this could damage the machine.
5. Drain the soapy water through the spout; then fill the percolator with hot
water to rinse. Pour hot water through spout to clean the spout. Repeat with
another hot water rinse. Dry completely before storing the appliance. Store
with cover off.
6. Clean outside of percolator with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive scouring
pads or cleansers.
Descaling
To keep your coffee maker operating efficiently, it is important to decalcify at
least every 2-4 months depending on local water hardness.
1. Dissolve 1 oz. (28 g) of Capresso Cleaning Solution (or other descaling
agent) with 6 cups. (32 oz) of water and pour mixture into the percolator.
2. Assemble the percolator with tube, coffee basket, coffee basket lid and
percolator lid in place.
3. Plug in and allow the cleaning solution to pass through the system. When
perking has stopped, let the solution sit for another 15 minutes.
4. Unplug and drain the percolator. Rinse a few times with cold water.
5. Let cool and then clean according to “Cleaning & Maintenance” section.

Hints for Great Tasting Coffee
1. A clean coffee maker is essential for making great tasting coffee. Regularly
clean the coffee maker as specified in the "Cleaning & Maintenance" section.
2. Store unused ground coffee in a cool, dry place. After opening a package of
ground coffee, reseal it tightly or place into an airtight container. DO NOT
store ground coffee in the refrigerator or freezer.
3. For an optimum coffee taste, buy whole coffee beans and grind just before
brewing. Keep unused whole beans in an airtight container in a cool dry place.
4. Always use fresh, cold water in your Capresso Perk. When possible use
filtered water for purest flavor.
5. DO NOT reuse ground coffee since this will greatly reduce the coffee’s flavor.
Reheating coffee is not recommended as coffee is at its peak flavor
immediately after brewing.
Troubleshooting
Coffee does not brew.
• Check that the tube is correctly placed inside the heating well so hot water
can travel to the coffee basket (Fig. 5).
• Check that the washer on the end of the tube is free of any coffee particles.
• Check that the tube is not clogged by cleaning with a pipe cleaner.
• Check that the cord is plugged into both the percolator and the electrical
outlet.
• Ensure the coffee basket holes are not clogged by cleaning with a toothpick.
• Ensure coffee basket is not overfilled as excess grounds won’t allow water to
pass through properly.
Coffee grounds are getting into the cup.
• Use a coarser ground coffee.
• Wet the interior of the coffee basket prior to adding the ground coffee.
• Use a paper filter designed specifically for percolators.
• Ensure coffee basket is not overfilled as this could cause coffee grounds to
overflow. See “Coffee Making Chart” on page 7.
Coffee is weak.
• Fill the coffee basket to the maximum marking (12) and add less water
(6-8 cups) to the percolator body.
• Only use cold water in the percolator. Warm water will not allow the percolator
to work properly.
• Check that the coffee basket holes are not clogged.

Limited One-Year Warranty
This warranty covers your Capresso machine, model #405.05 Capresso Perk.
The model # can be found on the bottom of the coffee maker. This warranty is
in effect for one year from the date of the first consumer purchase. This warranty
covers all defects in materials or workmanship (parts and labor). EXCEPT
BREAKAGE OF GLASS!
This warranty does not cover:
• Any machine not purchased from an Authorized Dealer.
• Commercial use of machine.
• Damage caused by accident, abuse, negligence, misuse, improper operation
or failure to follow instructions contained in this manual.
• Any service or alteration performed by an unauthorized person, company or
association.
• Damage caused by neglecting and omitting maintenance, cleaning and
decalcifying.
Other limitations and exclusions: Any implied warranties including fitness for
use and merchantability are limited in duration to the period of the express
warranty set forth above and no person is authorized to assume for JURA any
other liability in connection with the sale of the machine. JURA expressly
disclaims liability for incidental and consequential damages caused by the
machine. The term "incidental damages" refers to the loss of the original
purchasers time, loss of the use of the machine or other costs relating to the
care and custody of the machine. The term "consequential damages" refers to
the cost of repairing or replacing other property which is damaged when this
machine does not work properly. The remedies provided under this warranty
are exclusive and in lieu of all others. This warranty gives you specific legal
rights, and you may also have other rights which vary from state to state.
