Introducing Captaris FaxPress
Faxing with the Captaris FaxPress allows faxes to be sent right from your PC, in less than
one-tenth of the time it takes to use a standalone fax machine. More secure than e-mail,
computer-based faxing is ideal for handling business-critical and potentially sensitive in-
formation.
FaxPress end user features include:
Sending and receiving faxes from email applications
Sending and receiving faxes from the desktop using the FaxPress client
Sending and receiving faxes from the web, using the FaxPress Web Interface client
Document delivery to both fax and email recipients simultaneously
Faxing straight from Microsoft Office and other third-party applications
Desktop alert notice of incoming faxes
Phone book integration with personal and corporate, as well as Exchange and
Outlook contact lists
Creating cover pages, including both corporate and personal cover pages, using

With the FaxPress you’ll always know without a doubt whether or not faxes have been de-
livered successfully. Messages are either sent successfully, or the fax server transmitting
the fax alerts the sender.
About Privilege Levels
User accounts are based on privilege levels. Privilege levels determine access to faxes and
FaxPress functions. There are four privilege levels:
User – Can send, list, hold, view, print, save, discard or cancel personal faxes (faxes sent
by or routed to the user). Users can create and edit their personal phone directories, and
also submit, list, resequence, and cancel their own print jobs.
Router – Can do everything a User can; additionally, Router can view the first page of
any fax on the Unaddressed incoming faxes list, route faxes to other users (but not them-
selves).

Operator – Can do anything a Router can. Additionally, Operator can view, route, list,
resequence, and delete all fax or print jobs. Also, the Operator can edit the corporate
phone directory.
Administrator – Can do anything an Operator can. Additionally, Administrator can add,
delete, or edit users, set FaxPress’ default settings, and print FaxPress’ transaction logs.

Installing the FaxPress Client
Note: Manual installation may not be necessary if the network administrator
has already setup a remote installation using Group Policy features of Windows
Server. Check with your network administrator before continuing manual
installation of the FaxPress client.
This section describes how to install the FaxPress User client. Before you can use FaxPress,
the FaxPress server must first be operational. Contact your administrator to make sure a
FaxPress server is operational and present on your network segment.
Before installing the FaxPress user client, please confirm the client PC meets these require-
ments:
300 MHz or higher AMD® or Intel® x86-class CPU
64MB or more of RAM
50MB free hard disk space
10/100 BaseT Network Connection
Additionally, please confirm:
the client workstation is configured to use the same network protocol, TCP/IP, as
the FaxPress server.
all Windows applications are closed.
To install the FaxPress client for users, follow these steps:
1. Place the FaxPress CD in a CD-ROM drive. If Autorun is enabled, the setup will
launch automatically. If Autorun is not enabled, browse the CD and launch Auto-
run.exe.
2. Click Install FaxPress.

3. If you are re-installing the FaxPress software, the FaxPress Setup will require you
to uninstall the existing FaxPress client. Or, you can choose to install a FaxPress
Email Gateway at this time.
Otherwise, skip to the next step.

4. The Welcome screen requires you to click Next>.

5. Select User Installation.
6. In the Destination Path screen, click Next> to approve the default installation
directory or Browse to specify a new one.

7. Use the Personal Folders screen to choose a storage location for your personal
fax-related files and documents. Click Next> to use the default local drive loca-
tion, or click Browse to specify a network drive to share the folder with other us-
ers. After you’ve installed the client, you can change the location of the personal
folders from FaxPress. (See Setting Personal Preferences on page 136.)

8. The Select Program Folder screen displays the default program folder for the cli-
ent files. Click Next> or select a new folder.

9. If you’re running Crystal Report, first make sure the version you’re using is com-
patible with the FaxPress Crystal Report version, then click Yes. If your version of
Crystal Report is not compatible with the FaxPress version, click No. If Crystal Re-
port is not installed, click Yes to install and use FaxPress Fax Report.
10. To use FaxPress client immediately, select Finish.
Depending on which files were added, replaced or modified during installation, you
might be required to restart the workstation before using the FaxPress administra-
tor client. If prompted, press Restart.
