Starting up and operation of Capturs
Model B
●Completely charge the Model B Capturs before use.
○Plug the Type A Micro-USB cable provided into your computer and
the Micro-USB plug of your tracker.
○The charger LED will turn on in red.
○When the tracker is charged, indicated by the charger LED turning
green, you must unplug it.
●Starting the tracker: A simple press of the Capturs Model B central
button turns it on, if there is sufficient battery power, and starts sending
real-time positions.
●Operating the tracker: go to the Connect platform
https://connect.capturs-systems.com or download the mobile
application on https://capturs.com/en/application-en/. Create an
account and go “My Devices” to integrate your Capturs Model B. Use the
serial number (S/N) and the activation key (Key) written on the sticker
on the device to add your tracker on your account. Follow the
instructions and on the online interface to use the trackers, parameter
alerts, download reports.
●Stopping the tracker: Press the central button until the blue and red
LEDs light up (about 5 seconds). Then release the button.
Important : GPS is a sensitive technology. Indoor GPS cannot work. When it
has not been used outside for more than 4 hours, the first acquisition will take
longer. You should do it without moving because when moving it will take even
longer. Before going out, you should stay still outside for 5 minutes.

10
Operation of Capturs Model B
The Capturs software (PC/Mac) can be downloaded and installed on
https://www.capturs.com/en/download/. It allows you :
●Update the tracker’s firmware.
●Set up the tracker (tracking intervals, logger intervals, etc.).
●Collect the path recorded in the logger and to complete the path sent online
through the Connected Mode.
●Export your path in GPX, CSV.
Functioning set up:
Those two modes are independent and work simultaneously, communicating
to offer the best user experience.
●Connected Mode: Data from GPS, alerts, and other information
(temperature, battery, accelerometer) is transmitted through Sigfox
network. This information is accessible and can be shared on Capturs
platform. This mode needs a Capturs subscription. The data sent by
Sigfox network can be received only if the area is under Sigfox network
coverage.
●Logger Mode: Records GPS data and other information in the internal
memory of the tracker (the logger). The user can then download the
data offline on PC/Mac, export it, and collect the positions that were not
sent through the Sigfox network to have a more precise path. The logger
can function without Sigfox network, without subscription, everywhere
in the world where GPS works.
GPS tracking modes:
Two GPS tracking modes are used, as in the connected mode than in the
logger one:
●Default mode:
○Send the current position and two intermediary positions every 10 min
through Sigfox.
○Record in the logger the current position and several intermediary
positions, based on the interval set up by the user (min. 20s intervals).
CAPTURS SAS - 819 072 570 R.C.S. Toulouse 425 Rue Jean Rostand 31670 Labège +33 6 73 18 19 36 – contact@capturs.com – © CAPTURS 2021

11
○Record in the logger the speed and the altitude.
●3D Mode:
○Send the current position and one intermediary position through Sigfox.
○Send the current altitude and speed through Sigfox.
○Record in the logger the current position and several intermediary
positions, based on the interval set up by the user (min. 20s intervals).
Button use and messages sent:
Capturs allows 10 types of messages, one of which has acknowledgement of
receipt (alert message). The current GPS position is automatically sent with
the other messages.
Those messages will send a personalized SMS or email to chosen addresses
on your Capturs Connect platform.
Important :
●Pressing the button, even the alert button, does not send information to a
safety service or an official organisation (Police, Fire department). Only the
person you have chosen on your Capturs space will receive an alert by email.
●Those emails can get caught in spam filters. In this case, the contact person
will not receive the alerts. You should test this function before going out.
Types of messages:
●Button press:
○1 short click: one single press on the button
○1 long click: one press on the button held for 2 seconds
○2 clicks: two presses on the button (0.5 second between each press)
○4 clicks: four presses on the button (0.5 second between each press)
●3 clicks alert: 3 presses on the button (0.5 second between each press).
Message with acknowledgement of receipt. Sigfox will try to send another
message to the tracker to signal that the alert had been received. The user is
informed through the LED blinking.
●Area entry/exit:
○A message is sent when you enter an area set up and created on the
Capturs Connect platform.
○A message is sent when you leave an area set up and created on the
Capturs Connect platform.
●Motion detection: A message is sent when your Capturs Model B is in
motion.

Emission limits on Sigfox/ETSI network:
Uplink
The number of signals sent every day is limited to 140 messages per day,
which corresponds to one message every 10 min during 24h. In order to
respect the current legislation, you cannot overcome this maximum of 140
messages per day. This quota includes pressing button.
Downlink
Capturs uses the functionality « Downlink » (servers communicate with the
tracker) to try to establish an acknowledgement of receipt for a 3 clicks alert
message. The daily limit is 4 messages.

13
If you do not want to send your position anymore, you just have to turn off your
tracker.
In case of abuse, additional costs could be applied.
The user must comply with the current European rules defined by ETSI
directives. Go on ETSI website to know regulations relative to radio signal
emissions on bandwidth ISM 868 MhZ. Capturs SAS is not responsible for
Sigfox radio emission misuse by the user.

Best practices for using Model B Capturs
The tracker can be used in an omnidirectional way and had good results
during several emission tests. Nevertheless, optimal performance will be
assured by properly positioning the tracker. Not respecting positioning advice
can cause signal loss and failure of some position messages.
Metallic environment:
A metallic environment can disturb Sigfox’s radio and lead to signal losses. Do
not use Capturs near a metallic object (a canteen).
Fix GPS:
When it has not worked for a while, the GPS needs to know the satellite’s
position. It will automatically download data that it will keep in its memory to
have its position quickly at the next fix.
Also, the first fix can be longer, depending on environmental conditions. A
clear environment during the first fix will improve system performance.
GPS does not work inside, but Sigfox network is often operational. Information
on the movement without indication on the position can be exploited in the
software with total transparency for the user, improving his capabilities.
Model B Capturs position:
Vertical position (up)
Put the tracker preferably with the eyelet up and the Capturs logo on the top.
Do not tie the tracker with the eyelet, that will cause a swinging movement that
will reduce performances. Ideally, put it in an outside pocket of your bag in the
indicated position.
Horizontal position (down)
Preferably, put the tracker with the Capturs logo on the top.
When carried by someone
Radio waves will perform better with fewer obstacles, which will mean better
real-time performance.
Ideally, you should wear it in an outside pocket of your bag in the indicated
position. Avoid places where the tracker moves too much.
CAPTURS SAS - 819 072 570 R.C.S. Toulouse 425 Rue Jean Rostand 31670 Labège +33 6 73 18 19 36 – contact@capturs.com – © CAPTURS 2021

15
While the tracker can also work in your pocket or backpack, the environment
can have an influence. If it is in contact with something metallic it will strongly
decrease the performance.
The higher the tracker is held, without excessive movement or obstacles, the
better the results.
