3. nstallation
3.1 Safety information

Please be aware t at operating t is device w ile driving can distract you from
road traffic wit may lead to an accident! For your own safety NEVER operate
t e t e device w ile t e car is moving! Only control the device if the
current traffic situation allows it! Do not let you disctract you from t e
device! Under any circumstances comply wit any road traffic laws and
regulations must be kept. S ould t e product be damaged, deformed t roug
pressure, fall, its etc., do not connect or operate t e device but send it to t e
manufacturer for service c eck and possible repair.

3.2 Installation notes
C oose a dry and safe place for installing t e CP700BMW. Remember t at you
need access to t e front plate to c ange t e SD memory card.
If unsure ow to install t e product, ask a automotive service station or a car
HiFi specialist. Before finally installing t e device, c eck if t e device is working
properly.
Make sure places are clean and free from any grease w ere you like to install
t e self-ad esive mounting brackets. Make sure t e device cannot get loose
and does not interfere ot er parts of your car.
3.3 Car integration
T e CP700BMW is equipped wit t e identical connectors as t e original CD
c anger from stock. For any connection retrofit, t e same rules as for t e
original CD c anger apply.

3.4 Connectors, Slots and indicators

It is sufficient to only connect pin 1 and 2 or 3 and 4. T e ot er pins can be
left unconnected. T e device can be supplied wit permanent or switc ed 12V
power. T e CP700BMW will automatically set itself to standby mode w en t e
car is locked up.
3.5 Cars with no CD changer wiring
Cars t at are not equipped wit an original CD C anger from factory (SA672)
or do not ave a CD c anger preparation option (SA694) may need additional
wiring and coding of t e ead unit. Ask your seller or t e manufacturer w ere
to get appropriate material to retrofit t e CD c anger connector.
4. Operation / first startup
4.1. Preparation of the SD memory card
T e CP700BMW works wit any SD, SDHC or SDxC card if it as been properly
prepared.

Only FAT32 formatted cards will be accepted!
S ould you ave boug t a new SD card, please make sure it as t e correct
format. You can do t is by inserting it into your PC or Laptop. Go to
“properties” of t e device. If you see a format like “NTFS” or “exFAT”, t e card
need to be formatted wit FAT32 format. T e same t ing your will need to do if
you are planning to use a >32GB card for game consoles like t e SONY
Playstation™. Some Windows™ operating systems will not allow to format
cards greater t an 32GB wit FAT32. But t ere is a free tool t at allows
formatting any card wit FAT32. It is called „guiformat“ and can be downloaded
from t e manufacturer#s web site.

You need 6 folders on the card that start with a number!
The six main folders
T ese six main folders represent t e six virtual CD’s in a c anger
magazine. T e CP700BMW will create its own lists and databases
from t e fodler content into a Folder called INDEX. You do not
ave to create t is INDEX folder. It is automatically created by t e
device. You can always delete t e INDEX folder, t e CP700 will
automatically recreate t is folder next time you insert t e card.
T e first time t e card is inserted, creating t e INDEX will take
some additional time before you can play music.
You can also create subfolders wit in t e six main folders. But do not go
deeper t an 5 subfolders, else t e device will ignore its content.
Nested subfolders
Subfolders are a good possibility to organise your music
collection. T e order of playback is t e same order you
copied t e files onto t e card.
4.2 De ice configuration
T e CP700BMW can be configured t roug a special configuration file on
t eyour SD card. T e file is called “CP700.INI”. It is a simple Ascii text file t at

can be opened and edited wit any notepad or ot er plain text editor. Lines
t at start wit a semicolon “;” will be ignored by t e device. T e most
important parameter in t e CP700.INI is t e emulation mode called “EMU=”. It
controls as wit kind of c anger t e CP700BMW s ows up at t e ead unit. If
t ere is no CP700.INI, by default t e device will act as a audio E60 CD c anger
wit no extra functionality. T e following example s ows ow it will be set to
t is:
EMU=E60CDC
If t is line is active, t e CP700BMW be aves like an old CH c anger from t e
E60 series. T ere is no folder browsing and only some basic title information. If
your ead unit is able to s ow mp3 features (mayb need some activation in
advance) t en you can use t e following line:
EMU=E60FULL
T is activates t e full mp3 feature set and lets t e CP700BMW act as a MP3
C anger unit t at came across 2006 to t e market.
4.3 MP3 Tag / title display
As mentioned before, t e CP700BMW can basically simulate two units:
- Standard Audio 6 CD c anger Part.No. 6512 6986081 (EMU=E60CDC)
- MP3/Audio CD/CDR c anger 6512 9200633 (EMU=E60FULL)
T e MP3 model simulation can s ow file names, folders, title and artist name in
your car’s ead unit display.
f your head unit is not properly coded for these MP3
functionality, it is possible that the CP700BMW is not
rekognised at all!
Changes in the cp700.ini file will take effect after device
restart! After you changed something in the ini, let to
CP700BMW go to sleep or disconnect and reconnect it to
activate the changes.
You can program/code t e MP3 option wit eit er t e original BMW diagnosis
system (ISTA-P) or over t ird party tools like “R eingold” or NCS Expert.
Wit in NCS you add t e feature +KMP3 or if you modify your ead unit
directly (Coding tool, NCS dummy) c ange in unit „CAPPL“ t e option „mp3“ to
„mp3=full„.

4.4 User interface
T e CP700BMW can be controlled like t e original CD C anger. T ere is no
visible difference in t e CDC menu in your ead unit. To start playback, go into
menu “Entertainment” or c oose “CDC” in t e main menu (depends on t e
ead unit model). T e 6 CDs correlate to t e 6 main folders on t e SD card.
4.5 Supported MP3 file formats
T e device supports only files t at are CD sampling quality. T is means t e
sampling rate must be 44,1kHz stereo. If you convert your CDs to MP3 files,
you most likely ave it in t e correct format. If you ave files from ot er
sources (youtube, itunes rip) t en it mayb be t e case t at t ese files do ave
a different sampling rate. You can easily c eck and correct t is wit our “CP-
C ecker” tool for MS Windows™. T is tool can be found on t e SD card t at
somes wit eac Cp700BMW. Alternatively you can download it from t e web
site of Cartain™.

After you ave installed t e program “CP C ecker”, insert your SD card wit all
your misuc, click on “Select drive” and select t e drive t at is your SD card
reader wit your SD card. T en click “Start C eck”. T e programm runs
t roug t e card content and converts all files to a safe and working format
automatically.
5. Operating state / indicator light
T e LED (lig t emitting diode) on t e front plate (1) s jows t e current state
of t e CP700BMW. T e LED as t ree possible color states: red, gren and
yellow/orange. T e following table lists all possible opertation states:

5.1 Display messages
In conjunction wit t is product t e following messages can appear on your
BMW ead unit display
CD C eck Index is being c ecked or created
No Magazine No card inserted
No Discs No files found or write protect switc on t e
card activated
Loading… If t is message stays for more t an 60
seconds, you may try to c ange t e EMU
option to EMU=CDC first to make sure your
ead unit is coded correctly.
