To ensure safe driving
WARNING
!To avoid the risk of accident and the potential
violation of applicable laws, the front DVD or
TV (sold separately) feature should never be
used while the vehicle is being driven. Also,
rear displays should not be in a location
where it is a visible distraction to the driver.
!In some countries or states the viewing of
images on a display inside a vehicle even by
persons other than the driver may be illegal.
Where such regulations apply, they must be
obeyed and this unit’s DVD features should
not be used.
!NEVER install the display in a location that
enables the driver to watch the DVD or Video
CD while driving.
When you park your car in a safe place and
apply the parking brake, the picture appears
on the screen.
About this unit
The tuner frequencies on this unit are allo-
cated for use in Europe, Asia, the Middle East,
Africa and Oceania. Use in other areas may re-
sult in poor reception. The RDS (radio data
system) function operates only in areas with
FM stations broadcasting RDS signals.
CAUTION
!Do not allow this unit to come into contact
with liquids. Electrical shock could result.
Also, damage to this unit, smoke, and over-
heating could result from contact with liquids.
!Keep this manual handy as a reference for op-
erating procedures and precautions.
!Always keep the volume low enough so that
you can hear sounds from outside the vehicle.
!Protect this unit from moisture.
!If the battery is disconnected or discharged,
the preset memory will be erased and must be
reprogrammed.
!If this unit does not operate properly, contact
your dealer or nearest authorized Pioneer Ser-
vice Station.

DVD video disc region numbers
DVD video discs that have incompatible region
numbers cannot be played on this player. The
region number of the player can be found on
the bottom of this unit.
The illustration below shows the regions and
corresponding region numbers.

It is possible to play back DVD-R/RW discs re-
corded with the video format and Video Re-
cording format. (Refer to DVD-R/DVD-RW discs

Video CDs featuring PBC compatibility
It is possible to play back Video CDs featuring
PBC (playback control).
WMA, MP3 and AAC compatibility

Keeping the same terminology as DVD video,
individual DivX video files are called “Titles”.
When naming files/titles on a CD-R/RW or a
DVD-R/RW disc prior to burning, keep in mind
that by default they will be played in alphabeti-
cal order.

What the marks on DVDs
indicate
The marks below may be found on DVD disc
labels and packages. They indicate the type of
images and audio recorded on the disc, and
the functions you can use.

16 : 9 LB Indicates the picture size (aspect ratio:
screen width-to-height ratio) type.

Indicates the number of the region
where playback is possible.
When an operation is prohibited
When you are watching a DVD and attempt to
perform an operation, it may not be performed
because of the programming on the disc.
When this happens, the icon appears on
the screen.
!The icon may not appear with certain
discs.
Protecting your unit from
theft
The front panel can be detached to deter theft.
!If the front panel is not detached from the
head unit within five seconds of turning off
the ignition, a warning tone sounds.
!You can turn off the warning tone. See
Switching the warning tone on page 52.
Important
!Handle gently when removing or attaching
the front panel.
!Avoid subjecting the front panel to excessive
shock.
!Keep the front panel out of direct sunlight and
high temperatures.
Removing the front panel
1 Press OPEN to open the front panel.
2 Grip the left side of the front panel and
pull it gently outward.
Take care not to grip it too tightly or to drop
the front panel and protect it from contact
with water or other fluids to prevent perma-
nent damage.
3 Put the front panel into the provided
protective case for safe keeping.
Attaching the front panel
%Reattach the front panel by holding it
upright to the unit and clipping it securely
into the mounting hooks.
Resetting the microprocessor
The microprocessor must be reset under the
following conditions:
!Prior to using this unit for the first time
after installation
!If the unit fails to operate properly
!When strange or incorrect messages ap-
pear on the display
1 Remove the front panel.

2 Press RESET with a pen tip or other
pointed instrument.
RESET button
3 Replace the front panel by clipping it
into place.
4 Turn the ignition to ACC or ON and
wait for a few seconds.
Resetting of the microprocessor is now com-
pleted.
Use and care of the remote
control
Installing the battery
Slide the tray on the back of the remote con-
trol out and insert the battery with the plus (+)
and minus (–) poles aligned properly.
!When using for the first time, pull out the
film protruding from the tray.
WARNING
Keep the battery out of the reach of children.
Should the battery be swallowed, consult a doc-
tor immediately.
CAUTION
!Use one CR2025 (3 V) lithium battery.
!Remove the battery if the remote control is not
used for a month or longer.
!There is a danger of explosion if the battery is
incorrectly replaced. Replace only with the
same or equivalent type.
!Do not handle the battery with metallic tools.
!Do not store the battery with metallic objects.
!If the battery leaks, wipe the remote control
completely clean and install a new battery.
!When disposing of used batteries, comply
with governmental regulations or environmen-
tal public institutions’rules that apply in your
country/area.
!Always check carefully that you are loading
the battery with its plus (+) and minus (–)
poles facing the proper directions.
Using the remote control
Point the remote control in the direction of the
front panel to operate.
!The remote control may not function prop-
erly in direct sunlight.
Important
!Do not store the remote control in high tem-
peratures or direct sunlight.
!Do not let the remote control fall onto the
floor, where it may become jammed under the
brake or accelerator pedal.

Press to cycle through all the available
sources.
2MULTI-CONTROL
Move to perform manual seek tuning, fast
forward, reverse and track search controls.
Also used for controlling functions.
Turn to increase or decrease the volume.
3DISPLAY/SCROLL button
Press to select different displays.
Press and hold to scroll through the text in-
formation.
4OPEN button
Press to open the front panel.
5LIST button
Press to display the disc title list, track title
list, folder list or file list depending on the
source.
!This button is not effective when tuner is
selected as a source.
6EQ button
Press to select various equalizer curves.
7RDM/ /iPod button
Press to turn random function on or off
while using CD or USB.
While using an iPod, press to shuffle all
tracks.
Press and hold to switch the control mode
while using an iPod.
If using the iPod with an interface adapter
(CD-IB100B), press to switch the shuffle
function.
8TA/NEWS button
Press to turn TA function on or off. Press
and hold to turn NEWS function on or off.
9MUTE button
Press to turn off the sound. To turn on the
sound, press again.
!This button is not effective when you con-
nected a Pioneer multi-channel proces-
sor (DEQ-P6600) to this unit.
aBAND/ESC button
Press to select among three FM bands and
MW/LW bands.
Press to return to the ordinary display when
operating the menu.
bCOMP button
Press to turn COMP (compression) and
DBE function on or off.

Switch the operation mode between DVD,S-DVD and DVH modes. Normally, set
to DVH. For details, refer to Using the remote control operation mode switch on

tons Press to skip progressively backward/forward through the video playing.
10 DIRECT button Press to select channels directly. Not used.
11 A.MENU button Press to select various sound quality controls.

Press 0to 9to input numbers. Buttons 1
to 6can operate the preset tuning for the
tuner or disc changing for multi-DVD or

Press to select among three FM bands
and MW/LW bands and to cancel control
modes of functions.
Press to switch between media file

15 DISPLAY button
Press to turn the information display on or off when the video is displayed.
Depending on the selected source, pressing this button can switch the display in-
dication on the head unit.

ton Press to switch sequentially between playback and pause.
REVERSE (m) button Press to perform fast reverse.
FORWARD (n) button Press to perform fast forward.
PREVIOUS (o) button Press to return to the previous track (chapter).
NEXT (p) button Press to go to the next track (chapter).
STEP (r/q) buttons
Press to move ahead one frame at a time during DVD/VideoCD playback. Press
and hold for one second to activate slow playback.
If a DVD-VR disc contains a still image, press rwhile displaying a still image to
switch to the next image or video.
STOP (g) button Not used. Press to stop playback.

Move the thumb pad
Functions are the same as MULTI-CON-
TROL on the head unit.
Move to operate fast forward, reverse and
track search controls. Also used for con-
trolling functions.
Move to select a menu on the DVD
menu.
Click the thumb pad
Click to display the disc title list, track title
list, folder list or file list depending on the
source.
Click to select a menu on the DVD
menu.

TOP MENU button Press to return to the top menu during DVD playback.

Using the remote control operation
mode switch
There are three remote control operation
modes on the remote control. If you want to
operate this unit by remote control, turn the
mode switch to DVH mode. In this case, both
the head unit’s buttons and the remote control
can control this unit.
DVH mode operation
When operating this unit by remote control,
the mode is normally switched to DVH.
!The thumb pad on the remote control can
perform the same operations as
MULTI-CONTROL on the head unit.
DVD mode operation
If you switch the mode to DVD, the thumb pad
and 0to 10 operations are changed for the
DVD player.
%When you want to operate the follow-
ing functions, switch the mode to DVD:
!When operating the DVD menu by using
the thumb pad. (Refer to Operating the DVD
menu on page 25.)
!When operating the PBC menu by using 0
to 10. (Refer to PBC playback on page 25.)
!When specifying title or track by using 0to
10. (Refer to Specifying title on page 26 and
Specifying track on page 26.)
!When operating the DVD setup menu by
using the thumb pad. (Refer to Setting up
the DVD player on page 46.)
S-DVD mode operation
Set to S-DVD mode if the separately sold DVD
player or multi-DVD player is controlled by this
remote control.
S-DVD mode operations are basically the
same as DVD mode operations.

Displays band, frequency, elapsed playback
time and other settings.

Band and frequency are displayed.

Program service name, PTY information
and other literal information are dis-
played.
!Bulit-in DVD player, USB, iPod
Elapsed playback time and literal infor-
mation are displayed.
2LOC indicator
Appears when local seek tuning is on.
3NEWS indicator
Appears when NEWS (news program inter-
ruption) function is on.
4TA indicator
Appears when TA (traffic announcement
standby) function is on.
5TP indicator
Appears when a TP station is tuned in.
6AF indicator
Appears when AF (alternative frequencies
search) function is on.
7(shuffle) indicator
Appears when shuffle function is on while
iPod source is being selected.
8F-RPT indicator
Appears when folder repeat is on.
When repeat function is on, only RPT is dis-
played.
9F-RDM indicator
Appears when folder random is on.
When random function is on, only RDM is
displayed.
a(Dolby Digital) indicator
Appears when Dolby Digital audio is se-
lected. (Activated only when DEQ-P6600 is
connected to this unit.)
b(Dolby Pro Logic II) indicator
Appears when Dolby Pro Logic II is used.
(Activated only when DEQ-P6600 is con-
nected to this unit.)
c(dts) indicator
Appears when DTS audio is selected. (Acti-
vated only when DEQ-P6600 is connected to
this unit.)
d(AAC) indicator
Appears when an AAC file is playing.
e(WMA) indicator
Appears when a WMA file is playing.
f(MP3) indicator

!In the following cases, the sound source will
not change.
—When no unit corresponding to the se-

—When AUX (auxiliary input) is set to off

!AUX1 is set to AUDIO by default. Set the
AUX1 to OFF when not in use (refer to Switch-
ing the auxiliary setting on page 52).
!External unit refers to a Pioneer product (such
as ones available in the future) that, although
incompatible as a source, enables control of
basic functions with this unit. Two external
units can be controlled with this unit. When
two external units are connected, the external
unit is automatically allocated to external unit
1 or external unit 2 by this unit.

Operating this unit

!When this unit’s blue/white lead is connected
to the car’s auto-antenna relay control term-
inal, the car’s antenna extends when this
unit’s source is turned on. To retract the an-
tenna, turn the source off. (When you con-
nected a Pioneer multi-channel processor
(DEQ-P6600) to this unit, auto-antenna cannot
be controled.)
Adjusting the volume
%Use MULTI-CONTROL to adjust the
sound level.
With the head unit, turn MULTI-CONTROL to
increase or decrease the volume.
With the remote control, press VOLUME to in-
crease or decrease the volume.
Tuner
Basic Operations
When the separately sold display is connected
to this unit, the listed information will appear
on it.
%Select a band
Press BAND.
#Band can be selected from among FM1,FM2,
FM3 or MW/LW.
%Manual tuning (step by step)
Push MULTI-CONTROL left or right.
%Seek tuning
Push and hold MULTI-CONTROL left or right,
and then release.
#You can cancel seek tuning by pushing
MULTI-CONTROL left or right.
#While pushing and holding MULTI-CONTROL
left or right, you can skip stations. Seek tuning
starts as soon as you release MULTI-CONTROL.
Note
RDS (radio data system) contains inaudible infor-
mation that helps search for the radio stations.
!RDS service may not be provided by all sta-
tions.
!RDS functions such as AF and TA are only ac-
tive when your radio is tuned to an RDS sta-
tion.
!This unit’s AF (alternative frequencies search)
function can be turned on and off. AF should
be off for normal tuning operation (refer to
page 20).

Storing and recalling broadcast
frequencies
If you press any of the preset tuning buttons 1
to 6you can easily store up to six broadcast
frequencies for later recall with the touch of a
button.
!Only the remote control can operate this
function.
!Six stations for each band can be stored in
memory.
%When you find a frequency that you
want to store in memory, press one of pre-
set tuning buttons 1 to 6 and hold until the
preset number stops flashing.
The number you have pressed will flash in the
preset number indicator and then remain lit.
The selected radio station frequency has been
stored in memory.
The next time you press the same preset tun-
ing button the radio station frequency is re-
called from memory.
#You can also recall radio station frequencies
assigned to preset tuning numbers by pushing
MULTI-CONTROL up or down during the fre-
quency display.
Switching the RDS display
%Press DISPLAY repeatedly to switch be-
tween the following settings:
Program service name—PTY information—
Frequency
PTY (program type ID code) information is
listed on page 22.
#PTY information and the frequency appear on
the display for eight seconds.
#If a PTY code of zero is received from a station
or the signal is too weak for this unit to pick up
the PTY code, you cannot switch to PTY informa-
tion display.
Receiving PTY alarm broadcasts
When the emergency PTY code broadcasts,
the unit receives it automatically (ALARM ap-
pears). When the broadcasting ends, the sys-
tem returns to the previous source.
!An emergency announcement can be can-
celed by pressing TA.
Introduction to advanced
operations
1 Press MULTI-CONTROL to display the
main menu.
2 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select
FUNCTION.
Turn to change the menu option. Press to se-
lect.
The function menu is displayed.
3 Turn MULTI-CONTROL to select the
function.
BSM (best stations memory)—REGIONAL (re-
gional)—LOCAL (local seek tuning)—PTY
(program type selection)—TRAFFIC (traffic an-
nouncement standby)—AF (alternative fre-
quencies search)—NEWS (news program
interruption)
#You can also select the function by pressing
FUNCTION on the remote control.
#If MW/LW band is selected, you can only se-
lect BSM or LOCAL.
#If you do not operate functions within about
30 seconds, the display automatically returns to
the ordinary display.
#To return to the ordinary display, press BAND.
Storing the strongest broadcast
frequencies
BSM (best stations memory) lets you automa-
tically store the six strongest broadcast fre-
quencies.

may replace broadcast frequencies you
have saved using buttons 1to 6.
1 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select BSM in
the function menu.

2 Press MULTI-CONTROL to turn BSM on.
The six strongest broadcast frequencies are
stored in the order of their signal strength.
#To cancel, press MULTI-CONTROL again.
Tuning in strong signals
Local seek tuning lets you tune in only those
radio stations with sufficiently strong signals
for good reception.
1 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select LOCAL in
the function menu.
Refer to Introduction to advanced operations
on the previous page.
2 Press MULTI-CONTROL to turn local
seek tuning on.
#To turn local seek tuning off, press
MULTI-CONTROL again.
3 Push MULTI-CONTROL left or right to
set the sensitivity.
FM: LEVEL1—LEVEL2—LEVEL3—LEVEL4
MW/LW: LEVEL1—LEVEL2
The LEVEL4 setting allows reception of only
the strongest stations, while lower settings let
you receive progressively weaker stations.
Selecting alternative frequencies
When the tuner cannot get a good reception,
the unit automatically searches for a different
station in the same network.
1 Use MULTI-CONTROL to select AF in the
function menu.

on the previous page.
2 Press MULTI-CONTROL to turn AF on.
#To turn off, press MULTI-CONTROL again.
Notes
!Only RDS stations are tuned in during seek
tuning or BSM when AF is on.
!When you recall a preset station, the tuner
may update the preset station with a new fre-
quency from the station’s AF list. (This is only
available when using presets on the FM1 or
FM2 bands.) No preset number appears on
the display if the RDS data for the station re-
ceived differs from that for the originally
stored station.
!During AF search, sound may be temporarily
interrupted.
!AF can be turned on or off independently for
each FM band.
Using PI Seek
If the tuner cannot find a suitable station, or
reception status becomes bad, the unit auto-
matically searches for a different station with
the same programming. During the search,
PI SEEK is displayed and the output is muted.
Using Auto PI Seek for preset stations
When preset stations cannot be recalled, the
unit can be set to perform PI Seek during pre-
set recall.
!The default setting for Auto PI Seek is off.
