1.0 Installation,
DANGER!
*Ensure that the switchgear to be remotely operated matches the switchgear discussed on
the first page. If the switchgear does not match, please contact CBS ArcSafe® for more
information regarding remote switching applications for your particular model.

Step 1: Ensure there are no obstructions around the switch that will interfere with RSA
installation as shown below.
ATTENTION!
The location of certain items such as mimic bus, stickers, and/or placards may interfere
with the installation of the RSA. These items may need to be removed or repositioned for
proper RSA installation.
Step 2: Next, if it is not already, manually jog the RSA-80A handle adapter to center of its travel
to correspond with the “home” position of the Westinghouse DB-25 breaker. See the following
image showing the correct handle adapter orientation for installation.

Step 3: Install the RSA-80A on the breaker by resting the black delrin portion of the handle
adapter on the CLOSE/TRIP handle of the breaker and position the RSA so that the magnets are
sitting flush against the surface of the door. See image below for details.
Step 4: Next, secure the RSA-80A into place by rotating the handles of each of the two twist-
lock magnets 180° clockwise.
Step 5: When installed, make sure that both magnets are sitting flush with the door and that
the RSA-80A is sitting level with respect to the horizontal plane. A small bubble level on the
backside of the RSA device will show whether or not the RSA is level. If it is not, release both
magnets, adjust the position of the RSA as necessary, and then re-engage both magnets to lock
the RSA into its current position.
Step 6: The RSA-80A is now properly installed and ready for operation; see Section 2 for
operation instructions. The following section will address any adjustments that may be
necessary for users in the field.

1.1 RSA-169A,Adjustment,Locations,
Step 1: Users may adjust the travel of the RSA-80A in either the “CLOSE” and/or “OPEN”
directions if necessary. Travel adjustment may be necessary if the RSA does not fully operate
the breaker to the desired position, or conversely if it over travels the switch. See the following
image which shows travel stop adjustments.
Step 2: Another adjustment which may need to be made is the location of the RSA-80A motor
assembly. Adjusting the motor assembly may be necessary in the event that a magnet or other
component on the RSA interferes with a component on the breaker or door. See the following
image for directions on adjusting the motor assembly location on the RSA-80A frame.
“CLOSE” Direction stop:
Move up for more travel;
move down for less travel
“OPEN” Direction stop:
Move down for less travel;
move up for more travel

Step 3: The height of the RSA-80A motor assembly may also be adjusted to account for varying
depths of doors or breaker CLOSE/TRIP switches. See the following image for details (This
procedure will have to be performed on both sides of the actuator).

Step 1: Open the RSO-IIID lid by disengaging the two latches on the front of the case, this will
expose the user interface panel and the cord storage area.

Step 2: Remove the three pin twist-lock style cable from the RSO-IIID cord storage area and
connect the cable to the corresponding plug on the RSA-80A.
ATTENTION!
Please ensure that all cables are clear of moving parts. Failure to do so could damage
cables and/or actuator.

Step 3: Verify the unit is properly installed on the switchgear and connected to the RSO-IIID as
previously described.
Step 4: Turn the switch on the RSA-80A motor control box to the corresponding operation to be
performed (Either Close or Trip).
Step 5: Turn the power switch on the RSO-IIID to the “ON” position and input the settings based
on the placard on the RSA-80A based on the corresponding operation to be performed. Exit the
arc flash boundary.

ATTENTION
Please ensure that either the batteries on the unit are fully charged or the unit is plugged
into AC power.

Step 6: If equipped with the wireless remote option, ensure users turn the green activation
switch past the “ON” indication to the “START” indication in the window of the activation
switch.
Step 7: Press the “CHARGE/CLOSE” button to operated the RSA-80A in the applicable CLOSE or
TRIP direction. NOTE: Pressing the “TRIP” button will yield no operation on the RSA. Users
must press the “CHARGE/CLOSE” button to operate even in the “TRIP” direction. Users choose
the operation to be performed on the selector switch on the RSA-80A motor control box prior
to operation.

*Ensure that personnel using this equipment are adequately trained in the operation of the
switchgear they are planning to work with; that they are correctly stationed outside the arc
flash boundary; and that they comply with all applicable Federal, State, Local, and In-house
safety regulations and procedures. Attention should be given to distance, angle, and
personal protective equipment (PPE).
