3 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Spider67 Mobile series consists of digital and analog gateways and I/O extension modules for the
Internet of Things (IoT). The Spider67 Mobile series operates independently of a control unit such as a
PLC, NC or other control systems. The logical controller is a self-contained system and runs centrally
via the user platform (cloud computing).
The Spider67 Mobile series has the functionality of an intelligent IoT control node with independent
acquisition and transmission as well as logic control.
The Spider67 Mobile Gateways have the following features:
⚫Basic definition and configuration of I/O channels
⚫Flexible adaption of I/O control logic in the cloud
⚫Acquisition, upload and processing of digital and analog signals
⚫Threshold value assessment, output and process control
⚫Cloud connection via WLAN or mobile phone
⚫Commissioning takes place via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and mobile device
⚫A mobile device (smartphone) is required for the commissioning process
⚫Integrated eSIM card for the mobile phone connection
The Spider67 expansion modules extend the functionality of the head module with digital and analog
inputs and outputs for water (liquid) level meters, temperature and humidity sensors, various gas
detection sensors, pressure, vibration and many other commercially available sensors.

3.5 Use
3.5.1 Mobile communication
The products SPMB-16DIO-001 and SPMB-16DIO-003 are equipped with an elcoSIM® as standard
ex works. The integrated mobile radio module, together with the integrated SIM card, establishes a
connection to the respective mobile radio provider.
NOTE
Configuration via APP is a requirement for communication!
INFO
The mobile phone subscription is not included. It must be booked separately by the
user.
3.5.2 WLAN communication
Certain field modules of the Spider67 Mobile series support communication via WLAN (2.4 GHz).
When communicating via WLAN, the user must create the necessary functional environment to allow
Spider67 Mobile to connect to the cloud.
Server address
The server address to be used can be obtained separately from Elco Industrie Automatiion GmbH.
This differs depending on the application and is individual.
3.5.3 Elco-IoTHub
All products of the Spider67 Mobile series are factory connected to Elco-IoTHub. The IoTHub is a
powerful cloud environment that can be flexibly extended and connected in all directions. The
complete data processing takes place in this system. For easier visualisation of the Spider67 Mobile
application, Elco provides another web interface (Web-UI), which is the interface between customer
and backend. This Web-UI will be explained in detail in later chapters.
NOTE
An MQTT protocol is used to use the network functions. This protocol must be
activated by the system administrator via WLAN.
3.5.4 Gateways of the SPMB-16DIO series
The SPMB-16DIO series gateways only support digital I/O interfaces. You can define the I/O type
using the application platform.
The I/O gateways and I/O modules support PNP sensor connections.
3.5.5 Gateways of the SPMB-04AIO series
The selection and definition of the analog inputs and outputs is done in the user platform.
The I/O gateways and I/O modules partly support sensors with ±20 mA, ±10 V, 0 ~ 20 mA, 4 ~ 20 mA,
0 ~ 5 V, 0 ~ 10 V.

4 HARDWARE
4.1 Hardware environment
⚫Server
Servers running the IoTHub and the Spider67 Mobile application platform (cloud version, local
server version) and related software and network support resources.
⚫Computer/web access and Android/iOS mobile devices
We recommend a computer with a Google Chrome Browser to configure the user platform. An
Android or iOS device is required to configure the hardware.
⚫Hardware-1-Set for Spider67 Mobile
A gateway and the required antennas are included in the standard delivery. Expansion
modules and supporting connection components are not included in the scope of delivery.
⚫WLAN router
When using WLAN, the user must provide a WLAN access point.
⚫SIM card
The integrated eSIM is installed in the module as standard ex works and can be activated. A
separate mobile phone contract with Elco must be concluded for this purpose.
⚫M12 cables
For the intended use of the Spider67 Mobile, the terminating resistor and the system bus
cables must be obtained from Elco! The use of these components from a third-party
manufacturer leads to the loss of the warranty. I/O connectors can be obtained from third party
manufacturers or from Elco.
4.2 Net work environment
4.2.1 Mobile and WLAN network
The configuration and data transmission of the Spider67 Mobile Gateways requires the support of the
network environment. For the mobile gateway an appropriate mobile network (2G, 3G and 4G) must
be provided.
Depending on the configuration, the WLAN version of the gateway requires the local WLAN router to
provide the access point (AP).
INFO
SPMB-16DIO series products sold in the European Union must be activated by a
mobile phone contract. Only then they are supported by the network partner.

Abb. 2. Example of a network
Fig. 2 shows an example of a network with the Spider67 Mobile.
The Spider67 Mobile is installed in the field to collect sensor data. The sensor data is transmitted to
the IoTHub via mobile radio and stored and processed there.
From the IoTHub, Elco provides a standard web interface for configuring the Spider67 Mobile via API.
In addition, customer-specific data can be transferred from the IoTHub to third-party systems via APIs
for integration into existing systems.
