(see video as well)
Tools and materials needed to rebuild the drum unit
• PH#2 screwdriver
• Small flat bit screwdriver
• Retaining ring pliers
• Needle nose pliers
• Toner vacuum cleaner
• Lint free cloth
• 90-99% isopropyl alcohol
• Cotton swabs
• Conductive grease
• Disposable gloves
• CET drum rebuild kits CET501001 (black), CET501002 (color)
Step # Rebuild Steps
1. Remove the rear PCDU end cover by removing the screw with the PH#2 screwdriver
and taking the end cover off.
2. On the end of the PCDU there are two black gears with plastic clips on them. Remove
the two plastic clips and then remove the two black gears with a small flat bit
screwdriver.
3. Remove the three screws from the rear OPC drum support hub, then remove the rear
OPC drum support hub.
4. Remove the clip, then remove the three white gears from the rear of the PCDU.
5. Remove the two screws holding the front OPC drum support hub, then remove the
front OPC drum support hub.
6. Release the toner sensor cable.
7. Separate PCU (drum unit) section from the developer unit section.
8. Remove the OPC drum.
9. Remove the two screws holding the PCR assembly.
10. Remove the PCR assembly.
11. Remove the two screws holding the lube bar assembly to the drum unit.
12. Unsnap the lube bar assembly from the drum unit using a flat bit screwdriver.
13. Remove the two screws holding the lubricant application blade.
14. Remove the lubricant application blade.
15. Remove the screws holding the waste auger pipe.
16. Remove the waste auger pipe.
17. Peel off the front sealing felt.
You can use a flat bit screwdriver to gently pry it off.
18. Push the front lubricant application roller bushing out using a flat bit screwdriver.
You may need to apply force to remove the bushing.
19. Peel off the rear sealing felt.
You can use a flat bit screwdriver to gently pry it off.

20. Slide the lubricant application roller to the front, then remove it.
21. Remove the drum cleaning blade by removing the two screws. Then lift the blade out
using a flat bit screwdriver.
22. Remove waste toner with a toner vacuum. Be sure to remove waste toner from the
waste auger pipe as well. Do not use a conventional vacuum cleaner.
23. Unpack the new CET drum unit rebuild kit. CET501001 – Black, CET501002 - C, M, Y
24. Kit contents:
- OPC Drum
- Drum cleaning blade
- Primary Charge Roller (PCR)
- PCR cleaning roller
- Drum lubricant bar
- Drum sealing felts (rear and front)
- Lubricant application roller
- Lubricant application blade
25. Remove the old sealing felts from the drum unit.
26. Take out the new CET sealing felts.
Do not mix up the front and rear felts.
Locate where each felt’s cut corner will mount onto the drum unit before you adhere
them.
27. Clean the mounting surface with isopropyl alcohol prior to adhering the felts.
28. Adhere the bottom side of the sealing felts to the drum unit. Do not adhere the upper
side yet.
29. Clean the recovery blade with a clean, dry, lint free cloth.
30. Make sure the corners of the recovery blade are on the top of the sealing felts.
31. Take out the new CET drum cleaning blade.
32. Reinstall the new drum cleaning blade and insert two screws to hold it in place.
33. Clean the two lubricant application roller bushings with a lint free cloth.
34. Take out the new CET lubricant application roller.
35. The keyed end of the roller will be installed on the rear side of the drum unit.
36. Place one of the bushings onto the keyed end of the roller.
37. Lift up the sealing felts, then install the roller underneath them.
38. Reinstall the other lubricant application roller bushing to the front end of the roller.
39. Firmly press the sealing felts to activate the adhesive. These are the upper sides from
#28.
40. Take out the new CET lubricant application blade.
41. Reinstall the lubricant application blade and insert the two screws to secure it.
42. Reinstall the waste auger pipe and insert a screw to secure it.
43. Unsnap the PCR saddles from the housing using a flat bit screwdriver.
44. Remove the PCR and the PCR cleaning roller, then remove the gear and the saddles.
45. Take out the new CET PCR and PCR cleaning roller.
Leave the protective wrap on the PCR until installation.
46. Observe the keyed end of the PCR because when it is installed it should be opposite to
the PCR contact side of the housing.
47. Clean the PCR contact with a cotton swab, then apply a small amount of conductive
grease onto it.

48. Clean the black conductive saddle with a cotton swab, then apply a small amount of
conductive grease into it.
49. Reinstall the saddles and the gear onto the new PCR and PCR cleaning roller.
Wear clean disposable gloves or do not touch the PCR working surface with bare
hands.
50. Reinstall the PCR and the PCR cleaning roller into the holder.
51. Make sure the PCR is moveable and spring loaded.
52. Reinstall the PCR assembly into the drum unit and insert two screws to secure it.
53. Remove the springs and the plastic arms from the old lube bar.
54. Take out the new CET lube bar.
55. The lube bar for the black drum unit and the lube bar for the color drum unit have
different thicknesses (black is thicker).
56. Reinstall the plastic end hubs from the old lube bar onto the new one. You can use a
flat bit screwdriver to remove them from the old lube bar.
57. Reinstall the plastic arms.
58. Attach the tension springs to the plastic arms.
59. Set the proper lube bar springs’ tension by adjusting the clip that links the two springs
together.
60. The OEM recommends higher tension for MP C3003, 3004, 3503, 3504, 4503, 4504.
61. The OEM recommends lower tension for MP C5503, 5504, 6003, 6004.
62. To improve the drum unit performance and life, you may further reduce the tension
by adding a paper clip. Add the paper clip to the smaller end of the clip that holds the
springs together.
63. Reinstall the lube bar assembly into the drum unit.
64. Make sure the latches are securely fixed.
65. Secure the lube bar assembly with two screws.
66. Take out the new CET OPC drum. Leave the protective wrap on it.
67. Remove the retaining ring from the drum axle using a retaining ring pliers.
68. Pull the drum axle from the old OPC drum.
69. Insert the drum axle into the new OPC drum from the non-gear side.
70. Reinstall the retaining ring onto the drum axle using a retaining ring pliers.
71. Remove the protective wrap, then place the OPC drum into the drum unit.
72. Align the notches on the drum unit with the corresponding tabs on the developer
unit.
73. Carefully connect the drum unit and the developer unit sections together.
74. Reinstall the front OPC drum support hub and secure it with two screws.
75. Arrange the toner sensor wires.
76. Reinstall the three white gears and using the needle nose pliers reinstall the clip.
77. Reinstall the rear OPC drum support hub and secure it with three screws.
78. Reinstall the two black gears and each of their clips.
79. Reinstall the rear PCDU cover and secure it with a screw.
80. Make sure the OPC drum rotates smoothly.
81. For correct operation of the rebuilt drum unit, reset the corresponding PM counters
by SP3-701 or by selecting [PM Counter / New Unit Set] from the menu.
