Do not force the power tool. Usea.

Drill and Impact Drill
Safety Warnings
Wear ear protectors with impact1. drills. Exposure to noise can cause

This tool vibrates during use. Re-

GROUNDING
TO PREVENT

WIRE CONNECTION:
Check with a qualied

properly grounded. Do not
modify the power cord plug
provided with the tool. Never
remove the grounding prong

is damaged. If damaged, have
it repaired by a service facility
before use. If the plug will not

Grounded Tools: Tools with Three
Prong Plugs
Tools marked with “Grounding Re-1. quired” have a three wire cord and
three prong grounding plug. The
plug must be connected to a properly
grounded outlet. If the tool should
electrically malfunction or break
down, grounding provides a low
resistance path to carry electricity
away from the user, reducing the risk

of electric shock. (See 3-Prong Plug
and Outlet.)
The grounding prong in the plug is2. connected through the green wire in-
side the cord to the grounding system
in the tool. The green wire in the cord
must be the only wire connected to
the tool’s grounding system and must
never be attached to an electrically
“live” terminal. (See 3-Prong Plug
and Outlet.)
The tool must be plugged into an3. appropriate outlet, properly installed
and grounded in accordance with all
codes and ordinances. The plug and
outlet should look like those in the
preceding illustration. (See 3-Prong
Plug and Outlet.)
Double Insulated Tools: Tools
with Two Prong Plugs
Tools marked “Double Insulated” do1. not require grounding. They have
a special double insulation system

and complies with the applicable
-
tories, Inc., the Canadian Standard
Association, and the National Electri-
cal Code. (See Outlets for 2-Prong
Plug.)
Double insulated tools may be used2. in either of the 120 volt outlets shown
in the preceding illustration. (See
Outlets for 2-Prong Plug.)
Extension Cords
Grounded1. tools require a three wire
extension cord. Double Insulated
tools can use either a two or three
wire extension cord.
As the distance from the supply outlet2. increases, you must use a heavier
gauge extension cord. Using exten-
sion cords with inadequately sized
wire causes a serious drop in voltage,
resulting in loss of power and pos-
sible tool damage.
(See Table A.) The smaller the
gauge number of the wire, the greater
the capacity of the cord. For ex-
ample, a 14 gauge cord can carry a
higher current than a 16 gauge cord.
(See Table A.)
When using more than one exten-3. sion cord to make up the total length,
make sure each cord contains at
least the minimum wire size required.
(See Table A.)
If you are using one extension cord4. for more than one tool, add the
nameplate amperes and use the sum
to determine the required minimum
cord size. (See Table A.)
If you are using an extension cord5. outdoors, make sure it is marked with


Functions
This low-speed drill is suitable for1. heavy duty drilling operations.
The Trigger can be locked in the ON2. position for extended operation.
The Keyless Chuck allows the op-3. erator to install and remove drill bits
without the use of a separate key or
other tool.

Tool Set Up
TO PREVENT
SERIOUS INJURY
FROM ACCIDENTAL
OPERATION:
Turn the Power Switch of the
tool to its “OFF” position and
unplug the tool from its
electrical outlet before
performing any inspection,
maintenance, or cleaning
procedures.
To insert a drill bit, hold the rear ring1. of the Chuck (2) with one hand while
turning the front ring with the other.
Open the jaws enough to allow the bit
to slide in. Turn the front ring the op-
posite direction to tighten the jaws on
the bit. Be sure the bit is centered in


Work Piece and Work Area Set Up
Designate a work area that is clean1. and well-lit. The work area must not
allow access by children or pets to
prevent injury and distraction.
Route the power cord along a safe2. route to reach the work area without
creating a tripping hazard or exposing
the power cord to possible damage.
The power cord must reach the work
area with enough extra length to al-
low free movement while working.
Secure loose work pieces using a3. vise or clamps (not included) to pre-
vent movement while working.
There must not be hazardous ob-4. jects, such as utility lines or foreign
objects, nearby that will present a
hazard while working.
General Operating Instructions
Plug the Power Cord (34) into a suit-1. able outlet.
2. Trigger (32) to determine the rota-
tion direction of the Chuck (2). Press
to the right side for clockwise Chuck
rotation. Press to the left side for the
counterclockwise Chuck rotation.
Squeeze the Trigger (32) to start the3. tool. The Trigger has a variable speed
feature. Pressing it lightly will make
the tool operate slowly, pressing more
will cause the tool to operate faster.
You can lock the Trigger in the ON4. position by squeezing the trigger,

releasing the Trigger. The tool will
operate continuously. To stop the tool,
squeeze and release the Trigger.
To prevent accidents, turn off the tool5. and disconnect its power supply after
use. Clean, then store the tool in-
doors out of children’s reach.
The Drilling Operation
Use only well-sharpened bits that are1. in good condition and appropriate to
the task.
2. do not press too hard. Too much
pressure will not help the process
and will cause the bit to overheat,
may cause the bit to bend or break,
cause undue strain on the tool, and
may damage the bit or work piece.
Pressing too hard may stall the mo-
tor. WARNING: If the motor stalls,
release the Trigger immediately, to
prevent damage to the tool.
Always drill in a straight line. Bending3. or twisting the bit while drilling may
cause the bit to bend or break and
may damage the work piece.
Back off your pressure when you are4. about to penetrate the work piece.

Keep the motor running when pull-5. ing the bit out of a completed hole to
prevent the bit from jamming.
Metal Drilling
Use high speed steel, carbide or spe-1. cialty bits for metal drilling.
Secure the work piece to keep it from2. moving during the drilling operation.
Use a punch to create a dimple for3. the bit to start.
Start by drilling slowly to keep the bit4. from moving away from your starting
point.
As the hole is established, increase5. tool speed. Do not go so fast or use
so much pressure that the bit heats
up. This can damage the bit and cre-
ate an irregular hole. For hard metal,
use cutting oil to keep the bit cool.
Since drilling in metal is a slow opera-6. tion, you may lock the Trigger in the
ON position to maintain a constant
speed and reduce fatigue.
When drilling large holes in metal,7. start by drilling a smaller pilot hole,

size hole.
Wood Drilling
Use high speed bits or bits specially1. designed for wood drilling, such as
brad point, spade bits, forstner bits,
etc.
Secure the work piece to keep it from2. moving during the drilling operation.
Start by drilling slowly to keep the bit3. from moving away from your starting
point. Increase speed as the hole is
established.
To prevent or reduce “break out”4. when the bit penetrates the work
piece, clamp a piece of scrap mate-
rial to the back of the work piece.
Do not lock the Trigger in the ON5. position, as the bit can easily jam in
wood and the motor must be stopped
quickly.

Cleaning, Maintenance, and
Lubrication

binding of moving parts, cracked or
broken parts, damaged electrical wir-
ing, and any other condition that may
affect its safe operation.
AFTER USE,2. clean external surfaces
of the tool with clean cloth.

housing.
If the Carbon Brushes are damaged4. or worn, they must be replaced by a

de poussières. Les outils électriques
créent des étincelles, qui pourraient
enammer la poussière ou les éma-
nations.
Gardez les enfants et les passantsc.à distance lorsque l’outil électrique
est en fonction. Les distractions
pourraient vous faire perdre le contrô-
le de l’outil.
