Ifthespringheightsarenotwithinthespec-
ifiedmeasurements,oriftherightandleft
measurementsdifferbymorethani/8inch,
correctbytighteningorlooseningtheheight
adjustingboltsatthetorsionbarspringrear
anchors.Tighteninga springheightadjusting
bolt,(onelocatedateachendoftheengine
rearcrossmember)willincreasespringheight;
looseningtheboltwilldecreaseheight.
NOTE:
Alwayscheckfrontwheelalignment
andaimingofheadlightsafteradjusting
springheights.

NegativeCasteristhetiltingofthetopof
thesteeringknuckletowardthefrontofcar.
PositiveCasteristhetiltingofthetopofthe
steeringknuckletowardtherearofthecar.
Camberisamountthatfrontwheelslean
outwardorinwardfromthevertical,when
viewedfromfrontofcar.Withpositivecam-
ber,wheelsarefartherapartattopthanat
bottom.Withnegativecamber,thiscondition
isreversed.
NOTE:
Casterandcamberareadjustedbyre-
movingoraddingshims(Fig.25)betweenthe
uppercontrolarmsupportbracketsandframe
sub-siderails.
Addingshimsattherearbracketorremov-
ingshimsatthefrontbracketwillincrease
positivecaster.Oneshimy16 inchthickwill
changecasterapproximately%°.
Removingshimsequallyatbothfrontand
rearbracketswillincreasepositivecamber.
Oneshimy16 inchthickateachbracketwill
changecamberapproximately%6°.Thetotal
thicknessofeachshimpackshouldnotexceed

Theshimchartisdesignedtooperatemuch
inthesamemannerasthemileagecharts
foundonmostroadmaps.Thechartmaybe
usedforeitherleftorrightwheels,aswell
asforcars equippedwithmanualorpower
steering.Thecamberfigures fortherightwheel
willbefoundacrossthetopofthechartand
thefigures forthecamberreadingfortheleft
willbefoundacrossthebottomofthechart.
Figuresforthecasterona powersteering
equippedcarwillbefoundalong theleftside.

Awheelalignmentreadingshouldbetaken
todeterminethepresentcasterandcamber
settingsforeachwheel.Thesesettingsshould
berecordedsotheywillnotbeforgotten.
Locateonthechart,thecamberreadingfor
therightwheelusingthecamberfigures across
thetopofthechart.Alsolocatethecaster
readingfortherightwheelusingeitherthe
casterfigures attheleftsideifthecaris
equippedwithpowersteeringorrightsideof
thechart,ifthecarisequippedwithmanual
steering.Followthecastercolumnacrossuntil
itintersectswiththecamberverticalcolumn
indicatingtheshimchangenecessarytobring
therightwheelwithinpreferredsettingrange.
